COST of NPC GEMS. Argh

Discussion in 'UHall' started by RavenWinterHawk, Oct 20, 2009.

  1. Just a thought.

I just started an imbuer. Though plenty of kind people offered to help imbue, I figured I wanted to extract relics for vending.

I just went to buy gems from a NPC. Some of them were 156 gold a gem.

I guess that went into effect when imbuing started.

I know I tested before SA and I actually bought like 10k worth of citrines by chance and the price never went up.

Is this pretty much standard for all NPC Jewelers everywhere? Prices go up now as we buy.

If I have to pay it, Ill pay it. The vendor I was using was in Vesper.

  2. Yep pretty much every jewelers prices on jewels have gone up in price . To bad the prices dont reset at server up..

Stick to training on the items that need the lower cost gems (reflect physical, lrc, luck, etc.). Also, so far, it seems that the jeweler at the soul-forge in Ter-Mur has the best prices by far...

Cheapest place I've found to buy them is fel papua. It's on the same platform as the bank so you can bank them relatively easily, and the prices are about 50 gp less per gem than anywhere else.

Btw if anyone was wondering, yes they are commodity deed-able.

I've been getting the citrine and amber in Ter-Mur for 60 to 70 each. If you can get them for 50 less... please confirm! :)

I only use the gypsy camps and Ter Mur for gems, prices are alot cheaper. Why Ter Mur.............seems to be the least utilize jeweler on GL.

The starting price for citrine and amber is 50. I've purchased from Ter Mur a number times for that price.

When do the vendor prices reset?

Can we get Faction Jewelers, will give people a reason to guard the sigs!

  10. Thats the thing they never do reset now. Use to long time ago they reset at server up or when somone sold alot of the item to the vendor. They no longer reset and selling items to vendors to lower the price dosent work either I think.

The gypsies in Ilshenar reset every time the camp moves.

Yeah that's probably a bug, that came out with a more recent patch because they reset after SA came out. It's just that people have all been buying the gems. As far as I know vendors reset at server up on cats still.

Static NPCs reset with each server publish or restart from a crash. The jewelers are following the same rules as all of the rest of the NPCs. Nothing has changed here since they altered the way prices go up and down quite some time ago.

But the price you receive for items sold to vendors is set to the minimum and goes down from there. It no longer seems related to the actual asking price of the vendors. This may have changed due to the bottle quest bug right after ML launch. Now this set of code needs to be looked at again.

What bottle quest bug, there was no bug, you could just do it with out a wait timer. They felt it was too easy for people to buy and sell stuff so they changed it. Thinking that it would stop gold coming into the game, but they forgot the gold was going out of the game to get the prices that high also. I want them to just got back to the old way with fixed prices only instead of stalking 20 and having it double on respawn make it so they have 999 or 500 always. This applys to every thing.

As far as I can tell, The Jeweler in Ter Mur resets its gem prices quite often compare to the rest of the shop in fel or tram.

I think it resets at serverup but I don't have the time to check heheh

I trade with the roaming gypsies of Ilshenar when I want gems. They go and find them in their wanderings and their prices are always very reasonable. Of course, you need to track them down. :)

Posters: We want goldsinks and they need to be EXPENSIVE!!!

Devs: Ok, here's a cool new skill and to raise it, you will need to spend a ton of gold on a reources best bulk purchased from NPCs.

Posters: WTF!!! This is expensive! We didn't want this!

LOL! Thanks Dermott. As usual we really only want it to be expensive for all those other folks!

Personally, I'm as big if not a bigger pinch penny than anyone here (I also seek out the best price I can when I need gems or other resources, I REFUSE to buy items that other players simply buy off of NPC and jack up the price (like reagents), etc)...

    but...

I'm GLAD to see the cost of the gems be so expensive for Imbuing (and I'm sitting at 103ish Imbuing on a character myself). I'd LOVE to see a report on just how much gold has been sunk out of the game due to Imbuing.

Even if it's a small annoyance to seek out a better price for the gems I need for imbuing, I'm glad that the skill is such a sink in the game in terms of resources. We've needed it for a LONG time.

Yep, I initially thought I'd be clever and do Tmaps. That went out the window after I did five, lol.

I have done that and it was a toss up between buying the gems and making gear for unraveling or hunting for all the gear to unravel for residue, which you can get some of with tmaps along with gems and being patient.

I play on three shards, one of which is mostly dormant and I can afford to wait. But I'm just not THAT patient anymore. By my latest count I still need to lj 40,000 in oak.

To be honest, the greatest need for gems comes during the skill building phase and PvM, mining, fishing, Treasure chests and so on siply can't keep up with that pace. Once you reach the end of the building and only need to build a suit or weaponset occasionally, it gets better.

If you don't have gold stored up initially, the best way to do things is to fight creatures that give good gold and gems drops, then sell the gems you're NOT using to train to buy up the ones you DO use.

Just mine 3 or 4 hours/day and eventually you will have all the gems you need. Thats the new way to efficiently gather resources. Keep mining to maintain your stockpile. A snail's patience.

    This...

    and this...

Doesn't really go well together. If gems were meant to be a gold sink, how is generating NEW wealth to pay for gems considered to be a sink? I mean sure there are folks (like me) who used gold they already had but once I was able to take imbuing to legendary and make my new spiffy items... I was right out farming new critters and sending 50k piles of gold to the bank. I have already more than made my money back... so not much of a gold sink really. More like a time sink. I lost a week.

Alternative options and ease of use.

If you already have the gold, it's easier to outright buy the gems, thus sinking pre-existing gold. If you have to hunt up the gold to buy what you need, I'm simply giving a strategy to consider using.

It's still a sink in that the gold you're building up is being removed entirely by buying from an NPC (vs farming up gold to buy soemthing from a player vendor which in effect simply "shuffles" the gold around in the system not removing it.

And like you said, it DOES end up being a time sink as well.

In effect a gold sink doesn't always have to change your actual bottom line of how much gold you have oor even how much you bring into a system. A gold sink is the removal of that gold from the game through various means (in this case buying from an NPC and not from another player and then using the items purchased in a "sacrificial" or consuming manner so that the gold AND the resource purchased are removed from the game economy.

Well I'm not kncoking imbuing, I really love the skill and it's potential. But the "gold sink" is only temporary. The player vendor "shuffle" has already begun. In the form of relic fragments selling in bundles of 10-20 mil/100. Essence at 5k per... residue 1k per. And who reaps those rewards? The players who already had the money to get the scroll and take the skill to 120 fast. While those that struggle farming gold off critters pay for it all.

It's the same festered turd that community collections was. But in a different wrapper. Farming "new" wood that had little demand other than some museum npc's(box) insatiable appetite. In the end, those that exploited the system kept their gold and those that did not want to spend exponentially more time rnging all over the mountainside got screwed. Now the museum sits empty and the mountainside realatively untouched. Ironically enough.... any resource required for imbuing high end items can be gathered via a blessing from the RNG gods from any mining LJing location. Even more of a reason to script.

Reminds me of the days When Mages camped reagent NPCs =D ahhhh, those were the days

  30. i wish the devs would return the previous economy model for commodities. it was hugely profitable for those that played the market so to speak, and it benefitted the luna crowd by lowering the NPC prices temporarily. now with no incentive to sell for profit, the prices will just continue to climb until the only option is for all the players to flood ilshenar searching for wandering gypsy camps kinda like the old reagent rushes of yore.
