    Hi everyone,

On Drachs we met Queen Dawn yesterday. She asked us to look out for hints, notes or clues about her husband. (named Ors) - Ricardo seems to have been kidnapped as well.

I´m not sure, whether this was just "storytelling" or if there really is any hidden info out there - asking keywords at Brit Castle Guards or Yew prison doesn´t give any results.

And: Even our EMs didn´t know about this new Black Altair at Magincia moongate. Seems to have no function, yet.

    Anyone with further info?

    /Claire

I think Ricardo fled and the husband is smissing, but I doubt there are any clues in game.

If there aren't clues, I think they will be adding some at some point. Myself, I have been keeping my eyes open, and every once in a while I go check some hair brained idea I had as a possible fools errand. I am usually right, too. But I still look.

The Black Altar on Maginica has a Bane NPC next to it, which tells you that he'll sacrifice a Book of Truth there, to turn it into a corrupted book with your name on, after which you become Bane yourself. You need to complete a previous quest to get this Book, which means handing in a set of Virtue Armor to the npc by Britain Moongate, Trammel. How this will all shake out with regards to Magincia's fate, we don't know...

Adol is correct about the altar where the Magincia moongate should be..

Most people don't know about it because the 7,500 loyalty required pretty much killed the storyline for anyone who doesn't feel up to grinding meer.:coco:

I have it on good authority that there is not currently anything to find, however, that may change.;)

It was an IC set up for future events.

You might notice Mignon - the Guardian of the Black Altar - is the same Mignon that initiated Ors into the Bane Chosen.

I wouldn't be surprised if - down the road - Queen Dawn and Ors are forced into a confrontation. What would be more decimating than for Virtue Bane to turn her own husband against her?

Would she kill her husband to defend her people?

Is he the husband or lover btw?

    Ors is Queen Dawn's husband.

I rather expect that Ors won't survive the birth of New Magincia. Dawn will probably rush into Virtue Bane's clutches just in time to see Ors turned, eviscerated, or otherwise 'dealt with.'

I'm hoping this changes her into a stronger leader, not the impulsive dimwit the fiction makes her out to be.

From an OOC perspective, the things she has done are idiotic. Ignoring an army recruiting her people to attack a people Britannia recently signed a peace treaty with? Uhm.. Breaking into a magically sealed vault to take a dangerous relic out for public display? Really?! Ignoring the army attacking one of Britannia's allies, and the people of a close friend? Some leader... Ignoring the fact that same army now occupies sovereign Britannian territory - killing all those who approach? Le sigh.

Queen Dawn needs to be informed about press releases and upholding Britannia's obligations. The least she could have done was admonish her citizens from joining the Bane. She should have declared war on the Bane when they attacked the Meer, she is a warrior after all. She knows they have her husband...yet what does she do? Oh, right...nothing.

The EMs on GL have tried to fill in some of the blanks for us.. I'm pretty sure we're the only shard with much of any involvement there. I know it’s not their fault that things seem so assbackwards with Dawn, that’s Mythic's fault for mishandling the character.

I honestly don't see how this arc is going to be resolved in any fashion that’s going to make sense. The metafiction surely isn't moving things along sensibly; tiny vignettes that show barely relevant moments don't help. We need fiction posted every week (or more) that shows what the principle players are doing (exposition). We need in-game quests that give us backstory to what’s going on (the corrupt the book quest is disjointed). We need a reason to fight at the Spirituality Gate and on Magincia.

Without that, things fall flat and people cease to care.

Ugh, Dawn, Dawn, Dawn. Yeah, great leader that when things get tough their idea is to have her go to a closed off room to cry for months. I appreciate that some try to spin it, EM wise, but at the end of the day it makes it look like she is both weak and incompetent.

Suck it up, girl. You are supposed to be the strength of a nation. Her best attributes anymore are to whine and cry. Not a shining example of what a leader is, unless that is what they are going for.

There was some small fiction they fitted in awhile back. There was No Event for this either. That Dawn had been married before she became queen.

If you think about it Brittiana has a king to now lol. Wouldn`t her husband be King Ors? From what we know this is her first & only marriage.

    Thx for the info @all.

I was at least hoping for some ingame interactivity like during the Ricardo trial back in the day.

    But nothin... :(

Actually, the husband of a ruling Queen is considered a Prince. The only exceptions were the nations that did not allow females to rule, and whose husbands became King, and she was just a (lowercase) queen afterward, with the stipulation that there better be offspring, and the King was only King as long as his wife lived, and at her death he lost all titles he didn't start with, and their offspring (or her nearest male relative) becomes the new king (or queen having to get married to be part of the ruling couple, if they had a daughter).

Mm. I rather prefer the impulsive dimwit. It is ... adorable.

Queen Dawn isn't the Hero. She is the problem. She comes along in the last two weeks of the War of Shadows - involves herself in a few token confrontations - and is hailed as the Savior and Queen of Britannia.

Somewhere along the line those thousands who had been fighting Casca and the Shadowlords all along (on Baja) were forgotten or marginalized.

She is not and never should be the Protagonist. She is the Plot Device. The Incompetent and Chief. We are the Protagonists - that exceptional 1% of the Britannian population that has faced the Shadowlords and the Slasher of Veils and lived to tell of it - and we should remain the Heros of this Campaign. The ones who save Magincia; or deliver it to Virtue Bane. For the developers to turn her into another 'Saint British' would be like a bad Dungeon Master who makes his NPCs the center of attention.

She doesn't need to come out and be Strong. I like her crying in her corner. We the RPCs need to be given the tools to fix her mistakes and have an impact - whether for Good or for Evil - on the Arc.

Eh, see this is where GL is spoiled. We saw Dawn much earlier than the other shards and EM Malachi wove her into MANY events. We had weekly events on GL (still do) for the Casca plotline.

We also have a bit more background on the Bane Chosen, and a lot more on Virtue Bane.

Dawn wasn't weak on GL till this arc started, and then thats come straight from Mythic. Stupid brain-dead decisions made by someone who didn't get the character, and who obviously has only marginal grasp of where this arc was to go - and how.

    Spoiled? Mm. Perhaps.

But in comparing the two shards - Baja and Great Lakes - I rather like the conclusions our characters have drawn. On Baja Queen Dawn isn't seen as the Savior. In fact there is some divisiveness between those who despise her - some who otherwise consider themselves Loyal Britannians - and those who favor her rule. This to me has created a more dynamic scenario.

Where the EMs on Baja have failed - IMHO - is a couple instances of late where the antagonist is so hard to defeat that Dawn is required to be present to defeat it. Then the attention is not on the people doing the fighting.

I however agree that we need more fiction. We need more interaction in game.

Just my opion, but there is enough Estrogen controlling Sosaria. Tokuno, Brit, & Gargs all ruled by females. I`m not sexiest, but common atleast let one male have a role in there.

Dawn was a terrible character introduced in the misbeggoten Lord Blackthorn's Revenge expansion, aka the "UO2 Was Cancelled, Now Watch Us Shoehorn The Content Into UO1 For Legal Reasons" expansion, rightfully forgotten afterward.

I'd like to slap whoever brought her back.

Dawn hasn't ever been required on GL, as far as I can think of. In fact, the only time she has fought with us was at the end of the Shadowlord arc (when things ceased making sense because several shard-wide events didn't happen due to time constraints), and then recently when the Crystal of Duplicity wandered off.

However, we have saved her once or twice...mainly during the reign of Casca. On GL she slew Casca by destroying the Shadowlord's wannabe Gem of Immortality (I think several shards share this as an event).

At any rate, we don't see her as a savior anymore... Our EMs have tried their damndest to keep her relevant and not a complete moron, but as I said earlier Mythic seems intent on treating her poorly. Having her make made decisions because they can't figure out how to advance the plot organically is the major problem. Fiction that makes her seem bipolar isn't helping either...

Eh, she was introduced to do exactly what she has now. She was supposed to become our Queen back then, but EA dropped the ball and fiction back then pretty much dried up.

I may be partially to blame for her return... I suggested it to Draconi on UO Forums years ago.. 2007 or 2008, can't remember which.

She'd be a fine leader if someone at Mythic knew how to craft a decent plotline and didn't write clichéd characters...

Actually there is quite a bit of divisiveness on GL regarding Dawn. ;)

I believe the metafiction has worked against the character, and quite a few prominent individuals on the shard are wary of her being the one who wears the crown. I will say that, yes, the EM(s) worked hard intitially at attempting to create someone who was fitting of a ruler.

I think it started a downward slide when Dawn killed an unarmed man (it was Casca, but still) pleading for his life instead of putting him on trial and leaving the corpse as a reminder of the deed, imo. Virtue of Justice indeed.

Dawn did what!? I did not know this. There is no Compassion, nor Honor, in such a deed.

Were there any extenuating circumstances? Could Casca have had a trick that required his killing? Anything at all that would allow me to reevaluate this?

In-Character: The fact that Casca was a vile dictator, physically linked to one of the Shadowlords, there was absolutely zero chance of him being innocent or redeemed or of any extenuating circumstances showing themselves or any of the usual stuff of trials. Not to mention that, on GL at least, Casca's dying was a consequence, but not the specific intent, of Dawn's smashing a gem that was related in some way to the Shadowlords creating a new Gem of Immortality. The gem itself had to be destroyed or the usual, predictable evils would have resulted. He also likely posed an ongoing threat.

On Great Lakes, Galen held him down and made him watch while Dawn smashed it.

Out-of-Character: The Warriors of Destiny plotline had been an epic story that had stretched on for years and years and years and it had to end. The last thing this game needs is yet another "sleeping" villain waiting in the wings. We already have Minax and Exodus, and Virtuebane wasn't seen until now but has likely been there more or less since the Magincia Invasions.

I really should stop there I guess. No good can come of my saying more. If anyone is curious about my thoughts in more detail, feel free to PM me.

    *sigh*

Trebr, seriously, you need to start coming to EM events and discover this with the rest of us.

Yes, the Shadowlords were creating a new Gem of Immortality under the daemon temple on Fire Isle. In fact, you can still get to the cavern they were using..

Anyway, when the Shadowlords were defeated the Gem was confiscated by Dawn. About a week later we went on a quest to find a blackrock mallet and chisel. Once found, the Gem was taken to Blackthorn's Keep.

As Dawn was about to smash the stone, Casca appeared and begged for his life. What was Dawn to do? Allow the Gem to remain intact and hope nobody tried to steal it while Casca was put on trial? Or destroy the Gem 'now', regardless of the consequences to Casca?

She made the right choice; she put the good of the world above one evil man's life. And yes, Casca was irredeemably evil - there can be no question about that on GL. EM Malachi went out of his way to show that Casca was behind multiple treasonous offenses. In fact, I still have a copy of Casca's journal - he would’ve been hanged on that alone.

Dawn made the kind of hard choice that rulers have to make.

There now, was that so hard? I'm sure that there are plenty of other players besides me who'd like to know what's going on, who for one reason or another can't make it to every event! Maybe can't make it to any.

I'll tell you honestly, I went to 2 events with unknown characters. And those two events were very much like the old days, where all I did was follow the gates and beat on evil beings, not do enough damage to get anything more than a few coins, and that was it. I couldn't even keep up with the story because it was moving so fast. Gate/go/gate/go/fight/waste time/gate/go... Now maybe these were not the norm, but how was I to know? You all, with your "inner circle" and all, never telling anyone publicly what happened or if anything happened, separating yourselves from the rest of us at Stratics, haven't been much help.

But here's what ticks me off the most. I, I who was the only UO player to make note of and research the Black Necklace, and put all the time into that as I did over several years, and not one, NOT ONE, of my old "friends" on GL told me anything about this Gem? When it has so much to do with what I spent so much time on to bring to you? Besides the fact that all most of you did was give me a hard time about it. And you people expect me to want to join up with your group?

It seems like a waste of time, if people aren't going to talk about things and keep others informed. Unless, of course, I can make every event to keep up, which I can't.

And by the way, I'm not really as angry as I sound here. I'm just being dramatic. But I still have this point to make, and I feel like it has to be done, and I like the dramatic. I'm a roleplayer.

And I'm in the home of the 3 Gargoyle Bros. right now, where Pyros is mentioned on the large Deamon statues. How old is this? I found this the other day and came back to write down what the scrolls say, and make sure I have copies of the books. It's a little different this time. Last time I couldn't get past a pillar that has steps on, but this time I could. I still haven't gotten through a door into a caverns system, and a gate at another end takes me back to the beginning.

    Trebr, calm... :blushing:

You haven't been around for ages... I've personally seen you all of 4 times in the last year. You do sorta need to be around to be included in things, contact tends to help with communication. I don't keep a list of events ready to deluge you with on the off chance I may see you

Reading GL's news here on Stratics or on the GL Tribune helps too, since the end of the Shadowlord events were posted quite publicly. (Go here and search for Final Battle, Part II: Shadows Fall, or go here and easily find all three stories that might interest you.)

There’s not exactly an 'inner circle' of knowledge either (though Ra and I do tend to pay the most attention), since each EM event gets written up on the Library of Sosaria Wiki...eventually. Royal Spy events don't get many news articles since they are, well...spies. :lick:

There are pleanty of ways to keep informed, hiding from us is not one of them.

You've found Xenve An-amo-lem, fortress of three long-dead gargoyle brothers. It is the site of many a plot point, and it does tend to change from time to time. (That door won't open though, don't expect it to) Read on the wiki about it, way too much to go into here since it only affects GL.

Heh, hiding from you? You know what I spend most of my time doing in UO these days? Grinding for skills (imbuing and a couple of others), grinding for gold to buy needed things, grinding for resources needed, you know, just playing the very game that I've often complained about, and most of you tell me to stop complaining about. Then you want me to get around and be around? I can't, I'm busy playing your game.

Which I am kind of enjoying. But I can't be everywhere.

    Anyways, thanks for the info.

We all grind for needed things, but we also come up for air from time to time. Grinding gets dull after an hour or six..

Playing with us you might learn better ways/places/things to grind. Or you might simply have fun and RP. Being a recluse won't get you everything you want.

There is also a blackrock gem. On some shards its gone... you will all need to link together and build sound integrity and passion that transcends social norm.

What you did was honorable. But remember Avatar, the goal is to find a common cause.
