Deeded Items can't overlap? Bug or feature? Devs please help!

Discussion in 'UHall' started by katherinepgoh, Oct 9, 2009.

  1. The ability to place deeded items onto goza mats allowed for some of the most unique creations in all of UO, and it's broken! No deeded items can be placed on Goza mats anymore! Please say this wasnt intended and will be fixed!

Re: Massive Bug? Developers please check!

Found another semi related bug... I can no longer put rugs underneath add-ons. I just redesigned my house and now I can no longer put my rugs under my loom... or put my tapestry behind my loom as I had it before. I can place the tapestry or the loom, but no longer both. My hanging axes won't go near my forge, etc.. no matter which I put up first.

PLEASE... fix this and the goza issue...

So you cannot place an SA long table or couch on a rug anymore?

Does this mean the bought rugs parts and the token rugs?

    Why?

Because someone made some odd furny?

When will this be fixed please? Is no point of the great bought rugs unless you fix this back. :(

Please yes give us the ability to place on gozas back! I can't tell you how many creations came from that sweet little goza trick... but here are a few:

    Table:

The half level raised courtyard of this vendor house/rune library concept (all from raised slime dyed pentagram centers). And the raised virtue tiles:

The orange floor in the back room (again slime dyed penta centers)... and the verite counter top on the wooden frame in the main room:

Please give us the goza trick back! Oh Sak/Drac/Wilki/Pheonix... somebody say it ain't so!

I just yesterday finished replacing some pentagram floors and putting in carpet fringe (replacing goza mats as edging, big improvement!) in my never ending deco castle.

Need to swap out table and dye stuff, I changed the floor from pink:

On of my few actually finished rooms. That little table on the north wall was made by chopping up a longer hardwood table:

What exactly was created to cause this mess? An SA dresser sat on an SA couch? Why was that a problem.

I could just smack whoever posted about it and whoever did it in the first place.

Next time keep some of your creations to self maybe. :(

ZOMG- Sarsmi that is the coolest looking castle since sliced white bread. I now have so many new things to implement once we have and all clear.

I busted up my Pent ankh of sacrifice combo on my roof to put down the codex and can't get it back. But now I have stuff to do all over the place!

Re: Massive Bug? Developers please check!

I think we need to have more people put up houses on Origin and actually play there on the days when new publishes come out. We might be able to catch a few more bugs that way. I've come to the conclusion that the QA folks must do most of their testing using a shard that's wiped frequently and doubtless doesn't contain houses whose decorations have been perfected over many months and years or contain all the old and semi-unique items many players possess.

I know I put down the Codex of Virtue on top of my keep on Thursday, but was playing in short bursts while babysitting my grandson and trying to fool him into using the unconnected mouse while I tried to use the laptop's touch pad and keep him from smacking the keys. Didn't even think to try to redeed the codex or put something else on top of it. My house designs all tend to be pretty straightforward.

Re: Massive Bug? Developers please check!

Here's the problem with Origin... it was touted as a "live test" shard back in the day. Origin was supposed to get stuff for a week before the rest of the world. Origin's not exactly one of the booming shards, and those of us playing on regular production shards aren't going to give up our houses to place on Origin just for the sake of testing. Which leaves people who want to have the cool stuff first (but who also will likely lose stuff -- irreplaceably -- due to the bugs that appear and aren't caught). In short, there's no real good reason to play Origin, and thus, people don't.

Combined with the fact that QA seems to hold stuff up for a couple of weeks, meaning bugs were found, but then Origin gets the publish for 24 hours before we get it, and voila, still things slip through.

My real question though is this: How does QA miss some of these things? I mean, frankly, I'm willing to fly out to Virginia and take over QA at this point, because a simple checklist for each item that needs to be tested, identified by item type, and a subchecklist for each item would go a LONG way in combating all of these bugs.

    For instance:

    Pub 61 Checklist:

    o 12th Anniversary Gifts
    o Ticket Item
o Appears in 30+ day character backpack
o Does not appear in < 30 day character backpack
o Menu appears when ticket double-clicked
    o Menu has following selections:
    o Silver Sapling Replica
    o Codex of Virtue
    o Mailbox
    o UO Banner
o Item selections behave as follows:

    And so on...
Basically, they have a checklist that they can build by item type (could put together a basic program that does this, actually, for internal use). Then at least 3 QA people have to check off on each item to ensure that they are working as designed.

And each developer should follow the check-list prior to passing it on to QA.

I mean, basically, all deeded items should have:
    o Places properly in house
o Redeeds properly from expected redeed tile when axed
o Does not break when unexpected tile is axed
o Can/not be dyed as expected (differs by case)

It just seems there are some holes in QA, really.

Maybe they disabled the stacking as a short term fix until they have a plan for the house transport tiles?

Perhaps this was the point to ruin things for deco'ers???? have we ever thought of that?

Perhaps they wanted to make it so we could no longer "break" things.

Would so stink, but maybe it's intended.

doubtful.... when the seeds went all screwy they intended to fix it, but saw how much the gardeners were enjoying it and elected not to do so.... considering how many people enjoy the housing aspect of this game I sincerely do not believe that it was anyone's intent to break all of this.... just an unexpected outcome of some change, which hopefully they will change back

They can keep ALL the gargoyle furny as long as they give me the ability to place deeded items in the right spots again. Goza were the only way to get some trees to sit correctly on the tiles instead of close to the edge of them. It's bad enough you cant place anything on the the south and east tile of a plot anymore if it's concidered a blocking item.

    Especially the rares! :D

I'm actually debating putting a house on Origin now. I have a houseless account, I was going to go to a busier shard but hrm! It may be worth it to have a test house that I can friend/co-own other decorators to so stuff can get tested out.

Heck, maybe when the devs are a little less busy they can look into setting up tester houses on Origin then co-own players to those houses to try things out.

Re: Massive Bug? Developers please check!

Now now... they do have QA.

I think they pushed the publish out too quickly for testing actually, because they had a couple of exploits to fix.

Normally if there is something to do with house and deco they would have cloned one of the shards for us to test with -- which would have immediately shown the problem when one of us with a house on that shard would have picked up on it.

As much as I'd like to growl at them sometimes, the devs and QA are not stupid, and they are human.

I think the publish was too high of a priority and they were behind and pushed it out too quickly.

It would be nice, however, if they would give us some way to exactly duplicate our houses an items onto TC sometimes (without a clone being needed.) I test things sometimes when I know something is coming, but without my items and house to test I honestly don't think to check simple things.

Anyway, let's hope they give us an answer fairly soon and revert out the change that messed up multi-stack items.

it's the weekend, it's a big problem, they will probably have to discuss it in some detail in the office and see what can be done to fix it without totally undoing the 'fix' for the problem they were addressing in the first place.

I think they should completely undo the fix they were doing in the first place, put things back to how they were and repatch it when the update does what its suppose to do, i said it on Friday morning, patching any game on a friday is generally a bad idea, workers always rush on fridays so they can get out the door as soon as possible.

If, as I suspect, this fix was for the gargoyle dressers, what you are advocating is returning them to the state where items placed in them are lost?
I agree with your deduction that this fix was rushed. But rushed because people were losing their items?
I'm suggesting that you have patience and look at the bigger picture.

Re: Massive Bug? Developers please check!

Petra you are looking at a bigger picture and yes it is more important. But you are not looking at an even bigger picture. This change broke fundamental concepts in the game for deco. Housing and deco are extremely important to many players and a main reason to play the game.

In addition to the many smaller specific complaints listed here, we have katherinepgoh. I do not know if you are aware of the event PGoH is putting together... it is massive. They have been planning it for months. The town is enormous. Around 30 buildings rivaling some of Sosaria's naitve towns in size. The buildings are extremely well decorated and have a very organic feel. They kick off their big event today. Couldn't be worse timing for this change. Their decorator is paralyzed to finish off any last minute designs or try to tweak anything broken by this change. How frustrating they trade the ability to perfect their hard work for a gargoyle dresser.

Halloween deco events are already underway. Again deadlines are getting closer. People using the weekend to get their design turned in will have to wait for a fix.

No ma'am... you do not have the big picture in mind at all. And the devs didn't either. I don't blame them or you for not realizing just how important this is to so many. In retrospect maybe the gargoyle dresser should have been removed or disabled until a proper fix was put in place. I gauruntee you not being able to put items in a single piece of furniture would not have set off the entire housing/deco community like this did.

Re: Massive Bug? Developers please check!

I have learned to never do anything worthwhile other than explore on the day of a publish (in any online game) or for a week or two afterwards until the bugs have been all ironed out. Sure I hunt, hang with guildies, other friends and lose insurance money but nothing more than that until I look at the boards and make sure everything is fairly bug free. I would have thought a lot of the posters here would know that by now too. Oh whatever are we gonna do, we have to wait two or three days for an answer. Good grief. Yeah I can understand being concerned but demanding and talking about the people that make this game even possible like they're frickin slave labor is really mature.

I don't even know why they bother updating **** anymore when there are so many ungrateful idiots behaving like rich spoiled children demanding issues be resolved NOW. Sure, you pay to play but it doesn't give you the right, at all, to treat people like crap. Did you not get new items that you've been pancakes about for months now??? Are you even grateful?

It's the damn weekend, it'll probably be fixed in a few days but from some of the responses in this post for the life of me I can't understand why the devs even come to work other than a paycheck or for a lack of a better community to work with at the present moment. I think every place of work should get a "punch someone in the face as hard as you want for free" card and a second "punch someone in the teeth as hard as you want and a get out of jail free/no lawsuit" card. Damn good thing I don't do much more than build and troubleshoot computers and let the other employees deal with the customers huh?

    Grow the **** up.

    Thank you that is all!

Oh! For the record no offense at all to the OP and the few civil people who replied! ;)

Re: Massive Bug? Developers please check!

And here's where we differ, friendly like of course...

We don't pay for a week or two of paralyzation after a publish. Sorry bout that.
I'm not being a spoiled brat, I'm not being selfish, I'm merely pointing out that rushing a pub out the door on a Friday without any testing isn't a good idea...yet it seems to never occur to the powers that be NOT to do it. Anything fixed in this pub that was gamestopping? I doubt it, and as far as feeling for those who are losing stuff in the Dressers, that is regrettable, but in all honesty, the team new about that happening in beta, and did nothing about it then, when it woulda mattered and made sense.
That's why, even when I got my beta invite, I went and looked around, and came on back home, the word was even then most of the bugs reported werent being fixed.

Go back to patching on Tuesday?? I think it was in the old days...then you have time to reverse/fix/repatch what you mess up.

Ok, for one thing, my main chars that I have had for many many years did not receive the 12th Anniversary Gifts at all. Only 2 on each of my 3 accounts received them. Figured it was so there wouldn't be too many out there or something. I put the Codex down in my living room and it was crooked. I used an axe... no more codex. Well, actually, it took several hits with the axe to remove it all. Now, I only have one gift on that account. I didn't contact a GM because I know I would just receive a canned message.

The simpler, more appropriate solution to this would have been to simply make Gargish dressers single-sided objects. Just like the long elven chest that takes two tiles, you would only be able to store stuff in one side.
