Does anyone use this skill on their thief ?
I'm thinking about picking it up, due to all the people invising before a champ drops, or they keep their "protector" hidden somewhere.

I have it GM'd. It's an awesome skill to use to find marks. I love it when people think they can get away from by merely casting invis...la

detect allows revealing, and also finding hidden people afk that think they are safe. It also is very annoying for hiders, which can be fun when in contrary mood.
If you are using detect to find people, consider having tracking with it.

Bear in mind that with gm detect as a human you will reveal/track 50% of the time(at 120stealh 100hiding), the formula for success is (according to uoguide) based upon the sum of you detect+track against the sum of stealth +hiding.

Therefore if you are human you can gm detect and track effectivelyish or if not put some in tracking to compensate for the 20 lost from joat.

The problem isn't usually looking for stealthers (although there are plenty of them on Siege). With GM detect, it's a great ability to be able to detect players who only have GM hiding (no stealth) or those players who run into a bank and cast invis on themselves and have no hiding or stealth. Out in the field, it's fun to have detect to be able to assist the monsters in killing tamers who will "all kill" then invis themselves when they are targeted. Good loots can be found on a tamer's corpse quite often...la

I'm finding that 50 detect/50 track is a good combo for a tight template.

I'm working on it. Im in the 95 range and I love it, I am more likely to spend my time irritating the people doing a spawn than waiting for the 120s.

As far as using it to steal, its kind of double edged. If your watching a mark do a spawn (say im looking for my 1.0 detect/ninja SoT) and you see him randomly invis. Theres a chance that they got a reward and are trying to hide the item in their pack. You have the ability to reveal them, snoop them, and target it (if you use an item to target), but you have to wait for the timer on the detect to be able to steal it. In that instance you may be ok, to let him go on and take it around the next corner or next time he stops to kills spawn. BUT i've had a couple instances where revealing the mark has tipped him off and he's left the spawn. One of which was a .9 taming, which is now added to the short list of steals i must make before i quit UO. Im gonna start ranting...

ANYWAY... It is useful but you need to be careful when you use it. It is just like revealing yourself if the person is paying attention. And dont use it when you plan on making a steal targeting for the reveal will replace your target for the steal, even if you leave enough time for the skill timer.

So detecting with 100 tracking + 0 detect is the same as 0 tracking + 100 detect?

this one has heard that some people might lurk at spawns and farming, and wait for poor spell caster to hide to regenerate mana, then reveal him for monster slaying. Then loot corpse.
This is what I have heard.

    Yes, formula is:

    % Chance of tracking = (Tracking + Detect Hidden + Random 1-20) / (Hiding + Stealth) * 50

Actually ive just read further into it and i cant find a formula for detecting, it would appear that tracking is helped by detect but as i can find no formula i would assume that the vice verca applies although it may not.
