in 2D if i run,i have the impression i run, in the EC it is more like i am on drugs and gliding over the land, why?
in 2D i can play a much longer time,in the EC after a time you´ll get a little dizzy

is it impossible to change this,so i can run in EC like i do in 2D?

rolleyes: Speak for yourself, perhaps you get dizzy after a bit but I don't and it looks fine to me. I only use the EC and I can play for several hours without any problems.

    Tinsil Guest

No. You can't fix it. Wish you could, maybe then more people would use it lol.
  4. Yeah EC still has the odd float to me. I use it sometimes. But the corpes dont look like they lay right on the ground. And the movement over the ground just doesnt look anchored.

    Ah well.

Try playing with the graphics settings. Higher resolution on desktop and ingame perhaps. I did a few things and it made it much better. I don`t have the gliding feeling anymore, the background doesn`t look like I`m glitching when I`m running at mountd speed. Lots of things that annoyed me before just aren`t there anymore and I highly doubt its all due to my changes in options.

Just keep trying it now and than. I was a hardcore CC`r and I hafta admit,I haven`t really done much in the CC anymore except to make potions. Thats only because I can do it faster with UOA and a smaller pause than whats available in the EC.

IMO since the EC is fully dependant on your graphics card..... A: ya better have a good one and B: your settings should be turned up along with the resolutions.

Yep the EC needs a relative good machine to run, no laptop, no a desktop machine!

Bah. I'm running dual core @ 4.5ghz with 2 9800 GX2s all water cooled and it still looks like crap. It's not a matter of graphic settings, whole graphics engine looks like it was designed by children.

Really it is. If you look at something similar, like even the first Neverwinter Nights. World of difference. Hell I think I can go all the way back to the first Diablo and say it was better looking.

I love it, 2d client is horrendously outdated and while the ec needs a lot of work its far better than 2d imo. I can play on it all day with no ill effects.

FWIW, i use the EC client on run of the mill notebook hardware without any problems.

Well, for one, let's see what you've done............btw, if thinking 2D's better, I feel sorry for the whole lot of you.

2D is so dated it's not funny, but hey, living in the past is what a lot of folks like. I'm right there with you, just not in UO.

I don't know of any other game that has tried to totally switch/update their game engine after release. Most games are developed for one engine. That is partially why some people feel that other games 'look' better.

Personally, I don't play the game soley for the graphics, I play it more for the content. I've played other games that may have been more visually appealing, but quite a few of them have been very shallow. As if their developers held visuals higher than game-play/content.

I use the EC for a couple reasons. First is that both my Laptop and PC run it faster than they run the LC, and apparently I don't have the issues with the graphics that others seem to have. Second, the EC offers me so much more for my game play style via macros(I never liked the though of needing UOA), item count tracking, navigation, casting, stackable item usage, item property accumulation, ect...

Now, I'm all for fixing up the bugs, visual or otherwise, because that is really the most efficient way to move forward, in my opinion.

I only use the EC. It's so much better than trying to play the CC on my monitor. I hate squinting at that tiny play window... Plus the macros and hotbars are great additions.

Well I don't take drugs so I'm not sure what you mean, but I haven't seen any such gliding in EC. If anything the footfalls are more convincing and solid in EC as CC's seem to float between steps like they are in low gravity.

Do you know why you are getting dizzy? It is not broadly experienced by EC users so perhaps it is in your own settings (or your computer's settings).

    canary Guest

I see the gliding, it isn't just the OP that notices it. In fact, when you walk the background and static items 'wave'.

BTW, I have a 9800 nvidia and a 24" monitor, so please don't claim its due to my graphics card being bad.

  20. you EC people need to give constructive feedback and quit throwing up the steel walls when someone has a comment about the EC.

His point is legit, I tried the EC, and instantly was put off when I walked in place everywhere I go (go ahead and blame the cable connection and 4 GHz 8 gig ram pc). I think it's one fix that will extend someone's desire to try the EC for longer.

It put him off instantly, and it put me off instantly, I'm sure we aren't the only 2.
  21. BeefSupreme

    BeefSupreme Guest

Count me in. The 'gliding' does kill it, but worse to me is the fake 'movement' of water when you walk/run, then it just turns static instantly when you stand still. An old, old cheap 'animation' trick.
  22. BeefSupreme

And for the record, I would LOVE to run a new client. I am nostalgic for the CC, but the features of the EC would pull me in if they'd just get a professional to work on the art.
  23. AesSedai

    - I would love for the 'EC' to add an upgraded version of KR art
[Meanwhile, I would love to see a toggle choice in EC of: KR graphics -or- the morph betwixt KR and 'CC']
& I would love to see UO's graphics continue to upgrade...

But more important, to me, I would love to see the functionality of our new EC improve firstly...
[As so I hope Axel, Vex (wb sir jedi), Wilki, and all et al are working diligently despite all of the snow and uber cold shoulders they are certainly dealing with]

Graphics and such are great (and a good part of the overall structure) but the stability of the foundation that those pretty things lie upon are far more important to the overall longevity...

    Long Live UO

    I'm not claiming anything.

I'm just reporting what I see, which is what the OP and everyone else appear to be doing. Although I'm not personally experiencing these problems, I acknowledge some other people have such flaws and I'm only offering what advice I can. Settings are software, not hardware, and are often overlooked, especially when a person is particularly impressed by their own hardware. This is not uncommon.

It has been noted some high-end systems also have difficulty with EC, just as some low-end ones like notebooks don't. Not all systems are equal, particularly where games are concerned, and some will have inherent weaknesses that the EC developers haven't catered for. If you can't resolve the issues by adjusting your settings, the best thing is to submit bug reports along with your system specifications, both hardware and software.

I claim its due to your graphics card being bad; a 9800 (GT? GTX?) isn't too great to run a game at max resolution on a 24" monitor. A GTX 280 suffices (me) for now on a 22" monitor or 40" HDTV. Until the GTX 300 is ready :mf_prop:

Actually and I will admit this...

The EC is fairly decent. If not for the fact it causes my computer to hard crash I might use it more often.

There are certain things that the 2d client has advantage over the EC however they are fewer and fewer all the time.

However that said I still can't stand to look upon my character in the EC. He looks awful... It's tragic... And the "faces" available for characters are UGLY AS SIN. I don't know who thought those were good but they need to have their heads examined. In no way do I want my character looking like a total dweebus... Hes supposed to be very charismatic... As a role-player I find it extremely difficult to RP in the EC if I can't stand the look of my character and have to laugh at many of the characters I am interacting with because they look just plain ridiculous.

Also... there are NUMEROUS clothing issues with the EC. Not to mention the dozens and dozens of things that don't have art in the EC.

The winking and blinking of some items in the EC can get nauseating as well.

These issues need resolving before I can switch to the EC. If fixed... I'd gladly play the EC over 2d.

Oh really? Then why does my LAPTOP have the same display issues as well as my desktop?

For the record, I can play RoM, LotR and Guild Wars at max settings, easily, and get a high frame rate. The EC gives me a high frame rate too, btw. It just looks like **** when I walk or run.

There is a physical condition where the user gets violently and physically ill from some video games. I know. I suffer from it. The visual effect somehow triggers motion sickness. It is primarily the reason that I still play UO in the legacy client. I have tried the EC. It makes me sick as a dog. If i play more than 5 minutes, I want to puke my guts up, and that doesn't help.

It's not just the EC that does it to me. Some movies in the theater do as well. Console games are not as bad as PC Games but that is I believe because of the proximity to the monitor and the Frame rates are different. I loved the movie Avatar, but if I tried to watch in IMAX they would have had to carry me out in a stretcher.

A FPS will make me deathly ill within minutes. I am not going to die from it, but I wish I would. The movie DOOM did it to me. The game did as well. I get this mostly from 3d applications. Its NOT the hardware doing it. Its the effect. Even in 2d if I do a lot of running around like trying to PvP requires when trying to chase someone down, I get ill.

So unless someone ships me a ton of Dramamine I will never play 3d UO. If i have to say goodbye to the Legacy Client, I will have to say goodbye to the game. Believe me, I would love to be able to play EC. It has some features I really do like, such as Grid view containers.

I think it comes from the relentless offensive from certain 2d client users, whenever the enhanced client is mentioned.

For those motion sickened, a little experiment.
In the user settings XML file for Stygian Abyss (in the My Documents somewhere), open it with notepad, and find the "max framerate" setting. Change this to 10, and save the file.
Then, load up Stygian Abyss, and try running around a bit. The movement will be much less smooth, and the scrolling with the scenery will better resemble the 2D client (which renders at 10 frames per second).
I think that in some cases, it is the smooth lateral movement which causes the motion sickness, since that is a big difference between the clients.

    Zyon Rockler Guest

You become dizzy because of your movements. You're causing yourself to become dizzy because of the patterns you make when you move your character.

When I first started playing UO, long before 3rd Dawn, I was running around for maybe an hour and a half, non stop. The first that happens is that you get alittle warm and then you don't feel so well.

If you stop moving so much or slow down and try to do more without so much movement, you will not feel any motion sickness.

In other games at the time, like Might & Magic you could spin the screen around and if you did this you would instantly throw up!! This is much more apparent in 360 degree games if you spin or move quickly. It seems to affect people that are watching more than the people actually controlling the game because you can learn to expect it.

When I get ill from playing a game I find I feel better if I eat something and usually after a day i'm able to play any game without any symptoms because your brain will adjust.

But, it should be common sense, your looking at a screen and your eyes are fooling the brain into thinking the body is actually moving. If I were to spin you around 50 times @ 100 mph, it would take your mind time to adjust or become used to it.

So, don't blame the game for you becomming sick, just stop spinning around.

Pretty harsh words toward something that had a huge hand in making online gaming what it is today. Back than hardly anyone even knew what an online game was.I mean it was good enough to keep you playing for 12 years was it not?

Only reason why we have a less than perfect client (EC) is because of how UO is and how it works. I`m sure they would have much rather scrapped 2d/EC or KR and went with something new, easy to update and control....but what would happen to the history? The houses, the 11-12 years of nostalgia? Yea...it`d be gone along with lots of the peaple would stay with UO just to keep that kind of stuff alive.

So here we are today. UO`s devs trying to give us something that both brings new players to the game, keeps old players happy and preserves what UO is and was. IMO Ya can`t have it both ways/ Either A: Give up old UO and start a brand new platform with easy coding and bug fixes and awsome graphics OR B: hang onto the history, houses, items and such and try to upgrade the system without wiping it and starting over all the while being blamed for childish graphics and the likes.

I think most peaple are clueless as to the why`s and are totally closed minded to any types of changes to the game even when proven that working with this game in its current form is a nightmare. Ingrates.

I for one want to thank those children who designed UO way back when.

It is what it is. It`ll never be WoW (thank god) and it`ll never have the stunning eye candy some other games have. Get used to that and just play IMO!!!! EC will never be the Titan Quest of UO simply because of the restraints that come with preserving UO.

Cheap excuse, theres no reason that can't make EC look beautiful like say, Guildwars.

The only criteria for compatibility with CC is, a) what blocks in 2D must still block, b) a 3D clients action need to translated so 2D can see what someone is doing, apart from that, they could redo the client/server communication to whatever they needed, there is already packets that are only sent to EC.
