Devs a request, Dragons and Sea Serpents.

Would it be possible to make Dragons spawn in the colours of Deep Sea Serpents, I don't mean any fancy neon colours just the same as the Deep Sea Serpents only Rare one would be the pure black that I get fished up sometimes.

If possible could you please do it, some of those colours look really good and would add a nice touch to Dragons.

Mesanna was on Baja last Wednesday and asked us about this, but the topic was not limited to just dragons. She asked what we thought about various tamable critters spawning - rarely - in various hues. These hues would be subtle, i.e. no neons, garish colors, etc. So you may actually see this soon! :scholar:

Not a tamer, but I wouldn't mind it so long as...

    1. NO "Pure" any color. Items, creatures, people, clothes, animals, WHATEVER have TEXTURE. "Pure" colors in the game eliminate all of the internal texture and you get nothing but an indistict blob.

    2. NO neon/garish colors... even the fire beetle (especially in the EC) needs to be toned down qite a bit.

    3. Multi-hue where it makes sense. Just like "pure" colors kill the detail of a creature or item, so does single-huing multi-hued items.

I agree somewhat with the Pure except in the case of black, yes it loses its texture but its black its supposed to do that. Makes it look evil.

We went down this road before. The color police won't let them just put in colored tameables. The last time it was brought up it was crushed by a very organized very vocal group of players. Rather than get something added that is less than perfect they rallied for nothing at all. Impressive really. They have to have textures and not be bright. They must have shades in the right areas and conform to some standard that makes them appealing to the elitists. Don't get them riled up or they will make sigs about it.

So people want the devs to take the time and make sure that any hueing of the creatures in the world is done in a reasonable and logical manner and not look like moving blobs of technicolor vomit... I fail to see this as a bad thing... *shrug*.

Maybe because hues of anything are not nearly as important as bugs being fixed...

Honestly who cares about blobs of technicolor vomit when the players already do... *shrugs*

Good to see Mesanna is working hard to make sure the game is more enjoyable on the eyes...i'm sure the subscription levels will rise from this very important issue...

I wouldn't be against this idea if it was tastefully done, but some of the additions the current art team have given us are truly abhorrent. They seem unable to create things that fit in with the classic visual style of the game.

I like this idea, and applying deep sea serpent colours should be a fairly simple thing to do I think - although my coding knowledge is virtually non-existant.

Sig, eh? Good idea, I'm on it, haha.

I'd have to see the colors. I'll need to see if I can find Inside UO. But I've been one of the color police. For one, I don't want to have to tame a new drag, really. I'd rather have a one-time per pet "color quest." Also, some things shouldn't be able to be colored, like lava lizards. A blue lava lizard would be dumb.

Some of the colours are pretty nice, there are several shades of each. I think they are mostly ore colours that you can choose from leather dye tub. You can see kind of what they would look like because of the similar body and designs of the sea serpents. As for the blue lava lizards I agree with you, it just does not make sense. Dragons on the other hand are usually in fiction many colours.

I don't have a problem as long as the colours look decent applied to the animal concerned. If they do feel the need for brighter pets I'm hoping they make new birds or similar creatures that look great in bright shades. It worked well on hiryu. Or make the bright colour a highlight say on a dorsal stripe or some pattern markings for example.

Though I sincerely hope they look at the EC graphics for pets before they add any colours, because there's still work to be done making the existing pets look good :) *coughs* coloured hiryu *coughs*

In order to have creatures with different textures and not just a paint pot attack, the whole texture of the game object must be redone and no hue must be applied. If you add a hue to a red dragon, it will lose the difference between its red scales and its yellow belly. The hue system immediately convert the whole texture in greyscale, and the hue apply a color to each value of grey.
You can have several different colors in one hue, but it's applied in function of the greyscale. Neon happens when the color of the hue for the dark values of the greyscale are too light. The item loses its contact shadows, and so it loses its volume.

To make it right, they would have to take the old model, apply a new texture and make a new game object with the same properties, because currently it isn't possible to change the texture of a creature on the fly. Only the hue can be changed. That's why you have several possible nightmares. They take the horse group and apply the hue. Then it gives a different result depending on the horse used.
But as you know, the nightmare can't have differently colored hooves, red eyes etc, because the hue system doesn't allow it.

I would absolutely LOVE to see Unicorns come in a variety of colors as well as dragons..... but what I DO NOT want to see is colored dogs, rabbits, bears, etc.. I like those to be "real" colors.

Another thing I do NOT want to see.... is bad coloring. Dragons and things should have more than one color on them..... I mean I don't want it done like you threw a gallon of paint all over the thing.... the underside of the dragon should be different.... On the Unicorn just the mane and tail should hue darker... basically the body of it should be closer to white.... Or the mane would be white and tail white and the body darker..... but not the entire creature one solid color I HATE that.

Oh...... and finally someone needs to strangle the art team and get them to "fix" all colors in the EC... FIRST. I still can't see what color my dragon is anyway what good would it do to color them if all the dragons in the EC are RED!...... And the Hiryu is still hideous and VERY poorly colored in the EC!

I can see it from the commonly used GD Tamer point of view. Go someplace heavy on activity and it might be nice if the colors of dragons could help them stand out to their masters. Maybe not the sea serps but the frenzy ostard hues. With 99.9% of my tamer time is with my frenzy pack or rare spawn colored blood red to pink predator hellcats. Call them my speed bumps.

Just by adding a range of colors for the GD there opens a market for someone that enjoys the taming grind to get high stat pets. Add colors and hues of rare type then this type player can sell Dark Grey or dirty WW white GDs at profit like Cu.

And talk about neglect. What has it been over a decade and no new 5 pet pack creature to compete with hell hounds and cats? Gaman cold of worked but the big lumoxes barely do more damage then a chicken. That would of been ok but no pack bonus. Just put some studded dyable hell hound armor in so they aren't an insta kill. Not all tamers feel the need to hang on a GDs nads to deal with the latest boss. But the bosses are made to fight GDs and Sampire or cast/breath damage an archer or mage to pucker and run.

It would most likely not be very hard to do.
The changes for dragons should be done in 15 Minutes by a programmer if they have the hues the dragons should have then.

Dragons already spawn in 2 colors, should not be sooo tough to add a few more.

But maybe they still dream of the dye tub system?
Or wait to have the colours for their next booster with a breeding system?

If you want dif color stuff in uo just put on them old school 3d glasses(the ones that are red and blue). Makes for a very interesting time :) lol . The gnomes on lvl 4 look alot like the elves on lvl 6. Maybe you could just render them another color! Grandma's boy FTW

A small vision for how to colour existing pets:
Take a quest to find the mythical Dragon Bathing pools - These will be coloured pools in a secret room in Destard - I believe it would be possible to hue lava tiles in similar colours to the deep sea serps.

Your dragon will become the colour of whichever pool it bathes in.

Not sure how you did that but could you recolour a dragon like that and show a picture of it. I m not too good with those kinds of things and would like to see them. Thanks.

Blue too blue, green too green..... otherwise not too bad save the dropped a bucket of paint effect.... the underside of the dragons should NOT change color.

I hate that all one hue effect.

The brown ones came out much better than the red ones I thought.

I think I'd make it that all coloured dragons were converted to the brown body type and the darker hues applied.

I like the gold on the Red ones it turned out pretty good. It gives an idea but hard to say with a white background too. I think it could look really nice though.

hah! Something new for tamers! Animal breeding! Get dragon eggs and cross fertilize them to get the new colors. Like gardeners do with plants!

Wait! That's too weird.. I think I better go get some coffee.

If they were to add a "slot" or two to creatures, like characters have slots for wearables, they could make them much more attractive. These slots would be for eyes, horns, bellies, tails, claws, etc. In other words, so no one confuses what I'm saying, there could be one slot for several parts. One for eyes/claws/teeth and fangs, and this slot would remain as original and not hued. There could be a second slot for second color huing, and this slot could be for bellies, tails, manes, etc.

I'd also like to mention trophies here. It would be good to have very rare colored trophy heads as collectibles. But I've like to see such things be RARE, I'm tired of the so called rares that every tom/****/harry has in a week.

  41. Coppelia

    Coppelia Guest

Ok not a slot like to place equipment then, just a color to pick up for different parts of the creature. They would have to seperate the rendering of the different parts of the creature, like it's done with characters and their equipment.

I like the idea, actually. Have a "breeders pen" Put a couple of Dragons in there for a week, feed them properly, like oysters *grins*, and have a chance of 2 or more eggs. And colors could work like the plant system only with a lot of randomness to it.

I know about the pet dyes, heck I was one of the few that could actually get it on test if not the first. I really did not like them, I didn't mind doing the puzzle to get them but the colours were ugly for the most part. I all I am asking for is the chromatic colours of the Deep Sea Serpents. If they put them back on the puzzle that would be okay then maybe people would go back there again.
