Devs Pls: Increase bank storage to 700-800

Now before you read on read this statement.

This is a proposal to have banks shared through ALL char on a shard.

If you have 6 char slots, you get 700, if you have 7 its 800.

The idea behind this is for shards we play on where we cannot place a house. It is risky to drop a bag of items on the ground to give to another char. Or you have to have a friend you trust to hold said bag of stuff to give it to your new char.

Sometimes you are trying to scrape together all yoru gold to buy something and you have to log in, log out, log in log out. Thus being a pita to say the least. Or just having to drop a check to another toon to cover insurance. Why not just have it all come from one central bank? Why not give us something that makes gameplay easier for the players?

Secondary idea would be a new command useable at bankers.

The locker would be useable with all toons on that account and be shared.
The locker would have an item limit same as the bank 125 I think it is.
The locker would NOT be used for insurance.

All toons on that shard that say "locker" near a banker, would have it open this locker that they can put an item or items in and have it shared between all toons on that shard. Thus giving a way to share your gear, crafted items, ps, gold ect among all your toons on that shard securely.

Ideas and thoughts? If there is a possible way to exploit that you can see, post how to circumvent said exploit. If you like it, /sign . If you want to add to it, please do.

Ehn, I'd rather us be given a 'maximum tile' allotment so that we could own one (or several) houses on possibly multiple shards.

    No thanks.

Banking is fine and if it's increased then shouldn't be more than 150.

I use a boat to do my swapping, I just made extra keys and dropped them off out of town then relogged and grabbed one with each char. Only after each one had one did I put anything in it. If someone does happen to get a key before you do, and even if they steal the boat your only out 10k. Just remember you have to refresh it.

He didn't say to increase the limit, he said to combine all banks into one, and tally up the total for each char you have, if you have 2 chars then those two chars share 1 bank and they have a total of 250 items they can put in the bank.....it does not at all increase your ability to hold more items at all, just makes it easier to sort items between chars.
  6. The boats work pretty well for extra storage if you're moving, too. If you need to store several hundred items for a few hours, place a few boats, lock them and fill em up. When you're through with them, just re-deed em until you need them again.

Vendors are another good way to transfer stuff. All of your characters have access to all the items on your vendors. Just drop it on the vendor, put a ridiculously high price on it, then change characters and drop it in your pack. If anybody else wants it, they have to pay the vendor price for it. If you're fast about the transfer, you don't even have to pay a vendor fee.

These methods only work for items under 400 stones though. For stuff like ingots, boards, etc. you have to make a commodity deed first.

I have enough trouble keeping things organized with just 125 items per character; I can imagine how much trouble I would have if there were 750 items to sort through for 6 characters, all in one box.

I like the idea, and would be fully behind it if:

    They made it optional.

They made the bank box picture larger so that I can line up all my bags neatly inside it, and see all the "loose" items.

Youre right, but the topic does say increase. My mistake.

    Devs Pls:
I'd hate to sort 800 items though.

I'd love it. To make it easier to sort stuff they could just put multiple tabs on top of the bank box so you have 5 or 6 pages of items.

I've played other games with the common bank for all characters and it so much more convenient!

And to make EA go for it we can remind them they could easily sell extra pages of storage for real money (Like we'd have to remind them of that!).

Hm, i remember hearing that characters take their bank account info everywhere their avatar goes. If true, this'd cause a lot of lag in large crowds.

(perhaps i'm confusing bank accounts with backpack info)
  11. Cloak&Dagger

    Cloak&Dagger Guest

I would mostly agree, unless maybe they have mini-boxes inside for each char *shrugs* I dunno how it could really work out but meh.

No the "account info" you are thinking of tho is basically just a serial number, it's not like all the people around you are actually processing the items in everyone around themselves bank boxes. ( I suppose I could be wrong but it would be poor coding if I am....even for 13 years ago lol)

Probably will never happen. I wouldn't support this mainly due to the fact that people wouldn't need housing in some cases. I'd support a small bank limit increase but not combine them all or increase over 150 or 200 items.

Now thats its legal to run multiple clients on the same computer under the same user, just make a trial account to use as a trader for items between characters if you don't have a house or boat. Problem solved. Its hard enough keeping one character's bank tidy let alone all of them stuck in together.

I'm under this impression also, that is one of the reasons people get laggy when they approach houses, because of all the items loading. But if people had that much information on their characters walking around a lot of lag would ensue at events with more than a handful of people. It could cause trouble.

I do however like the idea of a shared bank between characters on an shard.
I believe woW solved this issue by making the mailboxes where you could mail your other characters stuff for a small price or for free I'm not sure. I've only ever seen it not used it. Would work though

I like the secondary idea. But this equates to an extra 125 items of storage for free, and there is an account upgrade code that already adds an extra 25 storage to player's bank boxes. I would like to see the locker idea expanded to include the following:

Must have a destination character for the items to be sent to.
Must have a time limit before the items get deleted or thrown on the ground.
Must have an additional requirement that the destination character's bank box be able to hold the contents of the locker.

Alternatively the locker idea could be altered to the following:

Toon to receive the items is selected first from existing Toons on account - sending Toon will receive information on how many items and max weight destination Toon has available on Toon's backpack and bankbox. Does not include pets or pack animals.

Once this is established, items to be sent to this Toon are placed in the locker, the player clicks a confirmation gump saying they wish to proceed, and the transfer then takes place.

It probably needs flagging code added to make sure that thief/red Toons can't keep items away from players they took them from.

Well since I have a 150 bank storage limit i dont agree with the one bank account for all characters, i have 7 so i would go from 1050 to 800 and that certainly is no good. The locker idea i could live with, most people have houses but it wouldn't hurt to have a locker that could be accessed by all characters on the same account.

So no on the first part and /signed for the second part as long as it didn't take away from the normal bank storage.
  18. Long ago going to an Inn and logging off a character in the exact place you want to log on at then get your other character with the goods to be transferred and place the item behind a wall in the room then log off quickly and log on your other character and pick up the items (you need to use the circle of transparency). Undoubtedly this will still work since these days most players don't log out in Inns. It doesn't take too much time to get enough gold to purchase a house deed and there are places to place houses. I think this needs to be the same to keep people from cluttering up other shards with characters they aren't playing.

No, for the same reason Yen Sid gave: I paid $30 for an upgrade to have seven characters per shard, each with a 150-item limit on their bank box.

In addition, it seems like this idea is prone to problems if it gets the normal less-than-thorough testing everything else seems to get these days. I'd like to feel like that 1,050 item storage limit wasn't some flash-in-the-pan deal, especially if I want to take a temporary vacation from UO and stuff a lot of items in the bank before I go.

Also, if we currently have problems with items staying insured if one character insures them and a different character dies while wearing them, wouldn't storing insured items in a commonly-held bank box just exacerbate that problem? Would putting items in acommonly-held bank box erase the "insured by" information (if there is such a thing)?

In addition, what happens if a character is in factions and puts a faction item (gear, trap deeds, etc.) in the commonly held bank box and then you delete said character or move it off shard before you remember to remove its unique items from the commonly held bank box. How are you going to get those items out of the bank box now? Can any of the other characters, especially nonfaction characters, take them out if the items aren't in a container? Can a GM access them to remove them from the bankbox?

It really isn't that difficult to exchange items between characters on the same account. You just have plan how you want to accomplish it, and yes, perhaps tolerate a wee bit of risk and inconvenience in the process. I'd much rather continue to endure some risk and inconvenience than lose something I've already paid for and/or introduce an entirely new set of bugs into the game for something that hundreds of thousands of people have done without for the last 12 years.

I agree with this as well. The combined storage would be less than I have now with 150x7. I wouldn't be very happy about that. As far as a locker. Would be nice to be able to share reagents instead of having multiple sets of them, but I think that it might cause a lot of confusion with insurance and possibly cause a lot of hassle.

Huh? People already commented on this idea, but 6x125 is already more than 700, so basically you're asking for a nerf, that's weird, lol.

For noobs who can't get a house and don't have friends, if you have multiple accounts, buy a packhorse. If you have one account, find a wall by an Inn. Pretty simple.

    Your numbers are off
    6 X 125 = 750
    7 X 125 = 875
    With extra storage add on
    6 x 150 = 900
    7 X 150 = 1,050

1st Trying to go through 750 items in one box would be a nightmare.

2nd The only people that would really need these are gold traders with more than 125,000,000 in gold or scripters/dupers. Sorry this is a big NO.

Big No. For many of the reasons listed above.

I already have purchase and account upgrade so if the bank box were less than 1050, I will be losing space. I already have a house that I can share stuff between characters (and so can you). Possible lag issue. Sorting through 1000+ items to find one?

I have dropped items by walls or behind trees for years. Never have I lost one bag or item. The idea of a shared locker is okay, but no to a combined bank box.

Sounds like an insanely complicated idea to code, not to mention the fact that your numbers don't add up to what we currently have.

Transferring items between characters on the same shard is easy enough. No need for this at all.

Now, changing gold and checks stored in the bank into an account, all for it.
  28. Fink

    Fink Guest

Boat works fine for items & commodity deeds, vendor for gold banking, etc. It's really worthwhile to find another player on your shard you can trust as the benefit of that goes much deeper than simply having a place to store your stuff.

Personally I don't like my characters sharing houses, let alone gold or items, so I try to avoid it. I'd like that housing tile allotment idea if you could also spend the tiles on multiple characters on the same shard.

    BAH!! No need.

Come on UO, welcome to the 21st Century.

    Do two things:

    1. Put in a mail box system. ---That means character specific names and not having 732 Legolas's running around, or 423 Sephiroths either. Of course one could merely add a mailbox account name, making the mail box system tied to an account or even (GASP) to the mail boxes which are selectable as Rewards. But then it doesn't address not having an address.

    2. Add a friends list capability. ---This may exist but it is not easy to find in a simple drop down menu GUI (Graphic User Interface; for those unfamiliar with the term). The Friends list would tie into the system wide mail box and need not show when someone is on/off line, but it could.

The technology is out there and has been for so long that is it "so last Century."

    Just saying...

I am surprised that you chose to use one sentence (out of context) without examining the rest of the post in relation.

I offered an alternate solution to the unique naming convention.

Although I do find it odd to run into a Legolas who claims to be a Role Player. I mean seriously, that is the best name they can come up with?
