Devs- Time To Take Another Approach To the Invasion Trigger

Discussion in 'UHall' started by Connor_Graham, Nov 19, 2008.

  1. Because having to depend on factions, which is a minority of a minority of the playerbase, isn't working. Pacific has nothing going on most days because the only active faction is one of the good guys. The only time any invasions get triggered is in the middle of the night, and always by the same few faction members. Other than that nobody on Pacific gets to enjoy the event other than a very few occasions (4 in 3 weeks so far that I've seen).

There needs to be some type of auto trigger that will allow more than just a very small group of people in the middle of the night to be able to participate. Suddenly expecting factions to become populated and active within a couple of weeks just because a few new items were added should have been expected to fail. It's time something was done about it so the rest of us can have some fun.

Or maybe just turn off Tram invasions and let our towns go back to normal. :)

If it really means that much to you just make a thief and steal the sigs yourself. If factions are still dead on your shard as you seem to be implying then you should have no competition. I think this is the 2nd or 3rd thread you've made about this and everyone is telling you the same thing.

Also means that the little carrot they gave factions isn't worth it. Would have been cooler if they gave factioneers unique looking and different items that could be earned in the faction system that don't look like normal PVE content items just with a few extra stats...

Would be cool if each faction had a different armor set [based on rank] and weapons.

  7. So factions can go back to what it was before? Oh that makes sense. From what I have seen, this has created some actual interest in factions again. But if you would rather play with just your friends, and turn off all the new people interested, I guess that is ok.

I fully agree with you Connor. Factions are really messed up on Pacific. The only faction that was really, active before the invasion, was Council of Mages. Now you have a few people trying factions out, and joining Minax or SL, and they are getting wiped out left and right. Not only because they are new to it, but because they are massively outnumbered.

CoM on Pacific has people controlling the sigils from server up til server down. Even with the corruption timer at only four hours, it's almost impossible to capture anything. As soon as you get a sigil in your stronghold a ton of CoM show up and take it back. Pretty hard to get anywhere when you are outnumbered 5 or 10 to 1.

The stupid thing is that they would benefit a lot by partaking in the invasions. I think the mods on invasion drops benefit PvP and factions more than PvM.

It's not working because they messed with the formula. If it was still at 10 hours to corrupt and 3 days to purify, there would be more spawns popping then there are now. The invasions should have lasted hours, not 10 minutes. They should have also looked into typing the special artifact use depending on how many towns you own.

I don't know what went on with that focus group, but what came out is not encouraging mass participation and PVP like it was supposed to.

I don't think it was a good idea to mix PVP with PVE content to begin with. The two playstyles differ from each other in such a huge gap. PVP effecting non pvp content is good when limited to maybe controlling a small area for a limited time, but not determining a whole invasion type scenario...
The artifacts were a step in the right direction, but factions needed more unique things that were available through the system only as opposed to rename/re-statted PVE items.
I hope this event alone is not the result of the focus group...

  10. On Pacific it's hard enough to hold a sigil for four hours let alone ten hours.

I don't think the time of purification is that bad. Right now it's six hours. If the invasion hasn't been wiped out in six hours, then there aren't enough people on that shard. If the purification was put back to three days, and then a city was captured, they could wipe out the invasion in an hour causing a three day hold on that city. Or if it was captured by CoM or TB, then it would be locked out of the invasions for 3 days.

Now if it were set so that the invasion would re-spawn, like every two hours after it had been wiped out, then the three day purification would work. Plus if they did that we would at least have a chance to have a city invaded for three days non-stop (if Minax or SL could capture a city.)

Other than the factions being so lopsided on Pacific, I feel that there is waaaaaaaaaay more action than there has been in a looooooong time.

I feel that the more the ball (sigil) is in play, the more activity there is. Long timers take the ball out of play.

    Just my opinion.

I don't care about Factions and they don't care about me... as far as I know Factions are a PvP play style and right now all that's happening is that in Tram (PvE lands) recall into just about every town is broken because the server seems to think there's an invasion going on when there really isn't.

What I said about turning off the invasions and letting Tram go back to "Normal"... that's what I'd prefer as a PvE'r who plays in Tram and doesn't participate in Factions. In reading the notes of 56 there were a LOT of new stuff for factions like gear and such... I'm not suggesting they nerf factions, just make factions stop hurting Tram players.

The invasion stuff is for Tram players, it just happens to be tied into Factions. I fail to see how it's hurting you as a tram only player besides the lag, which may or may not be due to the invasions.

Mainly because the blocking of recalls into "Invasion Zones" appears to be terminally broken so at least on Lake Austin, most towns on the "invadable list" are unrecallable 24/7 even though there's no invasions going on in them... by definition, there should only be 3 invaded towns at a time, and the towns that are invaded should have NPCs with tags on them... none of that is happening and yet recalls are all broken to the towns.... and have been since essentially day one of Publish 56.

  14. I agree about how messed up the towns are in Tram. I haven't been able to recall into the stable I normally use since this started. Even when that city isn't under attack. You can recall anywhere else in town, just not to that stable. Go figure.

I would still like to see the invasions continue in Tram though. They really are a lot of fun, and it's nice to hunt new stuff that actually gives decent loot.

Factions are all messed up on their own. A lot of that is just shard oriented though. So there really isn't much that can be done other than OSI stepping in and forcing invasions.

  15. That's what I'm talking about.

    Fubar comes to mind...
