DEVs: Using specials without the skill requirement intended?

    I didnt notice this but today I was killed and got into statloss period. I dont have any +skill items on me and apperently my Tactics/Anatomy/Archery are all dropped to 80 due to statloss. I tried to help my teammates out so I went out and started attacking enemies even tho I am in stat. To my suprisie I was able to use ALL the weapon specials. My Armor Ignore still hits for 35 +dual proc, regular shots hits a little less but with 45hci I was able to defend myself and actually got 2 kills.

    The question is, is it intended during statloss period you still have access to all weapon specials even if you do not have the required skills? 120 Archery and 120 tactics in statloss is 80/80 which normally wouldnt allow you to do secondary specials.

    As long as you've got 70 tacs/skill you can still use some specials..

    Maybe it was intended to give yourself some sort of defense/offense while in stat so you don't get RK'd over and over...

    Thats actually a pretty valid point, stat loss should mean you loose all the abilities of said stat.

    Seems unbalanced if my thief/alchemist loses his 30% EP from alchemy yet an archer/melee can use all the specials to full functionality.

    Turd (god i hate that) the op was stating he could use all specials even the ones requiring 90, i havent checked so cant confirm but that was the impression i got.

    Maybe you've not been around long, and I'll admit the Dev's haven't been very active since I've been back, but the devs at least /used to/ post here daily. It is not unheard of to get official replies to things like this.

    And last time I checked, which has admittedly been a few years, these are UO's official forums... As in, if you get a canned GM response that tells you to ask the community, stratics is where you're told to go.

    I only bothered responding because I've seen multiple posts of this flavor from you.

    To the OP; I'm fairly sure that's not intended, and it kinda takes away from the real penalty for statloss.. But not all secondary WS's require 90/90 I don't think. For instance, I can do shadow strike with 0 tactics. What secondary were you using?

    I thought we was referring to just the ones that require 70 skill/tacs... if he's able to use the 90's as well... then that kinda makes faction dexers almost as good when not in stat if they've got 120 in both wep/tacs + high HCI.

    I agree that the 70/70 specials are not a problem but the quote i added implies he could do the secondary, if this is the case then that is a major inbalance.

    Oh and ignore vyal hes just a troll i have seen a few posts from him stating the same line to a perfectly reasonable question/

    Ya it's kinda funny... these aren't UO.forums or whatever...yet Devs come here and look at posts too. That's interesting... shows how much he knows.

    And there's nothing wrong coming here for feedback from other players as well. That's why it's a community forum for UO... durrrr:mf_prop:

    OK I will clearify this a bit further.

    During statloss and I have 80 Tactics, 80 Archery and 80 Swords.
    I am able to do any secondary specials. I was able to do AI and moving shot on composite bow, mortal and concussion on xbow, Dismount and Moving shot on heavy, Bleed and Disarm on UBSW warfork and so on.

    I was able to do EVERYTHING that normally would require at 90/90 tactics/weapon skill.

    I dont think this is intended. Just wanna find out.

    You don't need a dev to answer this.

    If you're in stat loss its a temporary/artificial effect.

    Soon after AOS a couple of things were implemented in the game.

    1. Show Real Skill option.
    If you check that while in stat you'll notice the game still records your "base" skill as whatever it was before statloss.

    2. Soon after AOS they found that people were using + skill items in order to do specials , cast spells and a whole bunch of other stuff at higher levels than they could actually do.
    Soon the requirements were fixed so that you could only do stuff if your "Real" skill met the requirements, not the skill affected by items.


    That being the case anything that is checking your real skill, will still evaluate to your non stat loss skill.

    Anything that is checking the modified skill, will see your stat loss skills.


    eg. You notice you can still do specials that should require 90 weapon and tactics but you only have 80

    If you have ninjitsu you'll notice your choice of animal forms is now limited.


    It all depends on how the devs implemented it, I'm sure it could be "fixed" but it depends on how much of a problem and how much effort they think they have to put in.

    (Then again, faction statloss is PvP so don't hold your breath)

    as the last poster said it checks your real skill. Witch is handy when in stat loss but keeps ppl from getting +52skill in tatics from items and using all weapon specs from 38 real skill.

    yes it may still seem a bit unfair compaired to others but how good are them specs realy if he only has a 80 weapon skill to hit ppl with them

    The things isnt really about how effective they are, think about it this way.

    If you kill a group of faction mages they are pretty much out of the fight, there mana drops fast as no med there spells lose power no eval and they cant even cast high level spells (strangle, flamestrike meteor swarm)

    A tamer with even a mare(90ish)/rune beetle(90ish) at 80/80 can no longer control his pets and is therefore out of the fight.

    Now think about killing a group with dismount archers in, they can res up and still be dismounting. Maybe not as effectively but if theres 3or 4 of the ones gna hit the right rng and your on foot and subsequently (running shot) face planted.

    A 4/6 against a mage can still bleed and ar ignore mortal even if his hci is decreased he fighting a mage! Basically the ability for dexxers to perform all specials throws factions into serious unbalance.

    LoL. Ironically, I noticed this special bug(?) while one of my guildies was yelling in vent "How are they still dismounting me?". We are a PvP guild and on my shard the biggest PvP guild usually refered as the zergs by many on my shard usually rocking 5 to 10 stealth dismounting archers. We usually take them outnumbered because they arent solid PvP individuals but they got double to triple of our numbers usually. They are house PvP guild and over half of them are stealth archers(can you imaging fighting 5 vs 7 stealth archers + their mages and tamers? and I am not even kidding on their stealther figure). Anyways when their number hits triple of us or more they will then come out of the house, and we procee to stat most of their stealthers at one point we stated almost all their stealthers but somehow they rezzed and came back continued to dismount us (usually they call a target and suicide dismounting). Even tho they are in statloss, but when 5 archers are always on 1 target, we get dismounted and of course their tamer will jump in and put their dread horses on us with all the archer zerglings chaining moving shot. Thats when my guildie yelled and I noticed the problem.

    When my maxxed out legendary inscribe mage is in stat, I fizzle ebolt sometimes, and my flamestrike does 16 damage... vs statloss 35 dmg AI and 25dmg dismount shots seem to be a bit unbalanced.

    But oh well, we are used to fighting them zergs. And this is a PvP balancing issue so I dont expect it being changed since PvP isnt the top priority. Just trying to find out from a DEV to see if this is intended or not.

    What if its statloss mages vs statloss dexers? You really expect you are going to kill them with 16 dmg flame strike that will fizzle most of the time? 7dmg lighting? 30 hp gheal? Heck you will even fizzle exploison and ebolt at 80 magery. On contrast, their will still be dishing out 35 dmg AI, heavy concussion blow and the worst of all dismount shot.

    granted its on a necro mage but while in stat loss vs a dexer i will use protection no mage weapon and blood oath. yes the faction bandies will be annoying as crap ive killed non stated dexer as a stated necro mage.

    as far as 5v1 you should lose even if they are all in stat period.

    I cant argue that a stated dexer worth there salt should own a stated mage 1v1 there is no denying that
