Did/Do you enjoy this moonglow event?

Discussion in 'UHall' started by imported_Splup, Mar 31, 2008.

1. No, I don't enjoy this event.

There's no fun at all at this event. "Choose you side" What? Im trying to kill as much demons as I can but those ethereal warriors are still attacking me. So how am I supposed to choose my side?

How am I supposed to kill any demons, since when Im fighting one, from nowhere comes 3 demons and attack me?

What is supposed to be fun in this event?

Im just pissed...

These events have been the same since orc invasion, but this event is the lamest of them all.

Edit: By saying "hits is the lamest of them all" I don't mean that other events have been lame. I enjoyed Magincia event a lot.

And now that I have calmed down a bit... I appriciate dev team doing these events, but I think there should be new ideas instead of town invasions. Or then these events could be done bit differently. Instead of monsters randomly spawning in the town (like in last invasion) there could be attacks. Big group on monsters attacking town and trying to get inside gates. "Lord Blackthorn has announced that he is going to destroy moonglow 19gmt" And at 19gmt there would be one epic battle, when monsters would be trying to charge from south gates.

Most rewarding part so far is the 20 mil I made on blackrock.

I got 2 cloaks and called it quits. Hope it wasn't too big of a mistake.

i dont think the choosing sides has anything to do with the etheral warriors and the demons, draconi posted somewhere they they are fallen warriors..they all serve the shadowlords and anytime now they will begin to get the bezerkers to stop the random attacking, ( bezerkers..ophidian or demon), attack anything and everything....has anyone tried the arma spell trick thats working with shadowlords, on the bezerkers?..i havnt had a chance to be there since sat night..but someone should give that a shot.

4. I'm having lots of fun.

Draconi said the event will play out for the next 2-3 weeks...it's only been 3 days....

I am enjoying the event very much....there is so much mystery.....

Are the monsters I"m killing affecting my choices? Do I kill the shadowlords and Berserker Deamons or let them be? What is with the threads? Why the cloaks? Do the sword and shield do anything? I actually put a sword and sheild on my pally and fought with those for awhile.....just in case that leans her towards the GOOD side...while Maharia is hearing voices and carries blackrock on her at all times and stands there laughing while the shadowlords kill everyone....

It's....the whole event is cloaked in mystery...I love it!

I'll hold my opinion until its actually concluded. All signs point to much more happening in the future...

But yes, I'm very interested and happy thus far.

For those who are not... please ask yourself this:

1. Specifically, why are you not happy?
2. Specifically, what could have been done better?

I'm not trying to cause trouble, just remember that when you tell people they're not doing a good job... they need to know how to improve. They are in fact people on the other side of things who are attempting to produce a product that you will like. Be constructive, and help them out.... one human being to another.

So far so good. I am dying lots but still having fun trying to kill the monsters.

8. I don't know whats the deal on your shards, but atleast on Europa there's nothing to do. We tried to play with 4 guildmates, we have top geared/skilled characters, and we'r getting our assed kicked very very badly. I think it's great that there is some challenge, but getting killed every 30 sek cause from nowhere 3-5 demons come and instakill you...

Maybe I have lost my imagination during these 8 years Iv been playing, but I can't picture myself in that event nor can I get the picture what is happening... Well, Im glad you can enjoy it. I enjoyed Magincia event (mainly cause PvP in fel mag), but this event just isn't for me I quess.

Actually enjoying the event... would like to see a slight thread drop rate increase... but other than that having fun with it.

As far as the angels go, I have noticed them fighting with the essences and wisps on more then one occasion... so even though they are "fallen" I think there may be something to it...

Other than that... looking forward to figuring out the uses for the items and for what lies in the weeks ahead [IMG]

Also, remember that the devs are attempting to balance between keeping as much fun in discovering the various aspects of the event naturally, while not being so vague that nobody understands what's going on.

I think folks have been frustrated in this event, because they do not understand exactly what the storyline is doing... or what they as players should be doing to interact with it. I have found that I myself have had to be just as good at researching on websites like Stratics as I am at playing the game to fully enjoy this event.

However, consider this: Did you fight a Shadowlord before the blackrock spell was known on your shard? I did. And it was a massive fight with over 50 people for 20+ minutes. It was intense. It was exciting... and nobody knew what sort of things to expect when the monster was slain.

Now, what if the devs had said... by the way, once you're on the other side of this time warp thing, there's going to be a massive creature called a ShadowLord. You're going to want to walk up to him with blackrock in your pack, say the magic words and you'll do tons of damage. He'll redline quickly, and should die soon after that... well within a minute, and you'll be rewarded with a black robe in your pack if you delt enough damage.

The second scenario would mean absolutely NO fun for the average player. The power gamer would instantly have a plan as to how to most effectively kill the ShadowLords, and ignore everything else. They'd run in with a group of 3-5... kill the boss, and get out. Over and over. You'd be upset.

Since it did play out more organically, this special spell was not widely known for many hours... and thus huge groups of people fought everything that moved including the boss... as a team. Not as individuals fighting for the best loot.

I believe the developers are on the right track. I believe they understand the nature of the user base... and once its all said and done, hopefully you'll look back and think that this whole thing was revealed in a responsible, and enjoyable time line.

To your last comment - almost like the time Minoc was attacked and then the Vesper invasion...good times [IMG]

I enjoyed the orc invasion very much, my house is next to Cove [IMG]

I am having a great time with it! On PAC we have times where we actually almost kill the entire spawn - then once again all heck breaks loose. Everyone is working together and it is fun.

For those not enjoying the event it is more than likely you are only doing it for the items being dropped - play the game by immersing yourself into the story line and treat those items as just a bonus.

Devs - Very nice job!

How much is blackrock going for now? I've still got a pile from my last mining binge. How much did you sell it for a piece?

On topic, I'm enjoying this event, though I have never taken part in any previous ones to compare them to. I've only died a few times in several hours roaming alt moonglow. Monster adds are not a problem for me, because I run a stealther mage. I've gotten a cloak, a ton of planar items, a few threads and, maybe, couple hundred thousand gold for loot. I've always figured events were targeted to groups and large guilds, but by myself I have been able to get quite a bit of kills.

On Baja, there are no demon beserkers, thankfully. It sounds like some servers are having problems with them guarding the moongate which should be fixed or reset. I haven't noticed much lag either and my pc isn't that new.

This place is a lot less dangerous than magincia in my opinion too- less lag.

Maybe you should come by Siege Perilous- if you are in it for the pvp, you are on the wrong shard.

You really hit the spot... I miss the days I used my imagination and tried to make a difference in UO world. I miss the days I enjoyed killing trolls and ettins with Might kryss I had found on ground... Or when we killed a dragon with warriors with my friend! There was so much excitement for me in this game! Now Iv been playing 8 years and all I do nowdays is PvP, champs, harrowers and Melissande. Sometimes I help new players but I see them rarely... Sniff ;(

But there is something Im looking forward to! Im counting on new Dev team to make factions interesting again. Ahh... And maybe then we will get Faction events "Council of mages have retrieved a very powerful magical orb, which they are going to use. This or would be strong enough to do xxxxxxxx" and then COM would need to defend their orb. Or maybe shadowlords are trying to summon something powerfull etc. etc.

16. I'm happy to bash big monsters together with other players, healing, rezzing each other.

I'm not happy with the mystery around. For me fallen warriors = demons = shadowlords = evil foes. And I kill evil foes when I want to save a good town. If that's more complicated than that, like I should dodge monster X to kill only monster Y, or I should say no to good loot of monster A and only get crappy loot of monster B, then devs are nut and I'm not the one to blame if things become a mess.

We'll see.

I was fine in Magincia, and this spawn (atleast on europa atm.) is a lot harder then Magincia was. In Magincia I could atleast lure one, but here just bunch of monsters pop right next to me no matter where I am.

I made character on Siege long time ago, I quess it has something like 90+ warrior skills. Problem is that us europeans ping 140ms there =/

18. Enjoy???

This event is made by completly incompentente People, who i doubt even give the time to play it by themself.

Event are fun. and keep the game running.
But event should be made so people can atleast have some Fun and really wanna turn in hours of playing.

I started this Moonglow Event as a necro mage.
After being killing several of times i decided to turn on a New Char.

So i went with my 120 Parry Dexcer with Wampire Embrace form and with +70 resist suit. 45 hci/dci
ok. this baby i can tank. Doom. Peerles bosses, Champs ect.

But Those Angels in Moonglow.
122 Hp gone in one hit. 3xFS in 1 second. 70+Damage i seen over 100 times now. followed by Para and then nr 2 hit and im dead.
sometimes i just enter and im dead. people are dying over and over and over.

Even Wisp are now necro mages with SDI 500+

Guys WTF are this.

now shadowlords are most funny. i got toons of rocks. and can get a robe everytime.
Other whitout rocks. get [censored].

Now i do several shards. But try do Drachenfels. 20+ Berzerkers are at the Gate. Try enter that. i hear like 20 peps so far talking about quitting this game over such lame event like this.

pardon my french. but is the first time ever i been so mad about a new update and Event.

Cant believe you made something like this.

19. And on normal shards this event is only in Trammel so no PvP there.

To me, here is why i do not like it. "BLACKROCK".

This is/was suppost to be an evil substance. The blackrock elms tried to kill you in the event where you could mine up the large pieces. We were all told how, "Evil" it was.

Now, Blackrock has become, "Good". It is what causes the most damage to the shadowlords, and what you need to get the special items. If, "WE", would have been told the Truth, several months ago, that Blackrock is Evil, but to hold on to it, for someday it will be used for good, Then we would all still have ours, and no one in Luna would be selling it for 1/2-1 million each.

An Easy, BETTER< Idea would have been, to have us hold the blackrock for a future purpose, and a system, or npc, in moonglow that convertes the Blackrock into good, and the Good Blackrock destroys the evil lords. But you could use the current, Evil, blackrock, to destroy Good things, and help the Shadowlords, Thus, Choosing your side.

So this isnt normal? Same thing on Europa, 20+ Berzerkers are at gate, and entering the event arena usually means getting instakilled.

22. Yes I do enjoy the event.

Granted, I may not if when I can get on I can't even step through the gate without being mobbed by berserkers! But I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

I've found it to be an enormously fun event.

Well, speaking of incompetence, after reading your snivelling post, I discovered the true meaning of the word.

First off, watch the language kid....second, how long have players been posting about being bored to tears??(lack of imagination in todays society)

Then, these guys give us something to do, and then we get more boo-hooing. No ones twisting your arm to play it, especially if you have gimpy characters.

My legendary stealth archer....best thing he did was hide and/or die....ok, switch tactics, lets try the very unpopular tamer. No arty suit....no super-duper-XYZ dragon either....used a mare and a WW.
Scored 2 swords thus far....would have been more, but, hey reality kept me in check, and I had stuff to do.

Bottom line, unless you have what it takes, which I doubt, get yer keister over to EA, get a dev job, and put your money where your mouth is.

damn, reality calls again!!!!!!!! [IMG]

Well I can't believe that they made it so that only those using the blackrock bomb can get these robes.

So those of us with no money or blackrock are completely out of luck, no point in even trying!!!!Wow that is so friggin stupid ,do I not pay the same amount to play yet am not entitled to the same rewards because I was unable to collect some stupid rock ?

The inability on the part of the Event team that is never looked at is to tell people what they are planning so people have the same chance of collecting certain items or keeping things .

I feel I am being left out of this event as usaul as do many I'm sure.

I'm not sure why those shards are experiencing the insta death at the gate. On Lake Superior, we don't currently have any berzerkers or demons. Same spawn as when the event started, and a well populated army of fighters for the last several days has kept the spawn manageable.

This scenario plays out all across the video game's history. There are items in the game. You decide if they're worth holding onto or not. Some will be useful / valuable, some will not. This is no different from real life. Ever collect baseball cards? How did you decide which ones to trade and which ones to keep? Did you get rid of that 1989 rookie card of Ken Griffey Jr, only to find out 6-7 years later that it was really worth a ton of money? Would it be justified for you to call the Topps company and complain that they did not forewarn you WHICH cards would be worth keeping and which wouldn't?

Life is a series of choices. I can't tell you how many rewards and valuable things I have discarded over the 10 years I've played this game... and always wished I hadn't... but always kept in mind that it was my choice, and thus I did not blame anyone else for not giving me the heads up.

Anything that gives something new to try is a bonus! After a few years when you have done every dungeon and monster many times any change is like a breath of fresh air and the Shadowlords give a real good interesting fight.

So you die in this event at times . . . oh well, we cant always have events like ToT where players can kill rabbits and get rewards. Try to go in with groups, stay near gate and jump thru if overwhelmed. After a couple of hours and many deaths I just cleaned up the gold from all the corpses nearby to get back insurance money lost, its an easy run thru gate to real bank.

Will wait for conclusion of event but so far no complaints

30. 1. Something different, which is always good if you ask me.
2. I have died alot but I have also pulled in some loot and learned to adapt and over come. (a good thing)
3. I have The amount of people particpating has been great, I have ressed alot of people and been ressed by alot of people. Good to do some networking.
4. I am really enjoying the storyline, but like others just wish to figure things out faster. Human nature i guess.

Overall I am pleased with the event so far. Thanks for the new stuff and change of pace.

1. because I am in the middle of a template change, effectively leaving me out of the event.(siege)

32. I like the event so far. At least we see some action. I'm not one for reading the boards to decipher clues months before an event. Point me at something, I will try and kill it.

I play Napa. We're not uber populated now-a-days, I think our population is just right for the challenges this spawn presents. The grim reaper spawn was also a lot of fun, too bad the shadowlords don't spawn in random places in fel - but I guess it's all gotta stay around the spawn area, so the people who work it get a chance at the boss. It'd be awesome fighting this spawn in other locations, though. Like castle british, for example.

I had my doubts about using a mage for this event, I tend to think that mass slaughter is better left to bushido whatnots. But, my mains are all mages, and I've been playing mages mostly, so I stuck to my guns. To my surprise, I found the event really enjoyable on a mage. Dunno if having blackrock in my pack made a difference, but I compared notes with my meleer friends, and my damage with fire spells competed with their damage. And I traded scribing for weaving, so no 10% bonus there. Using some well timed fire spells, and 120 wrestling, I managed to solo angels, fetids, wisps, with very few deaths over the days. (my fame title actually increased to dread). I can't seem to do damage to the daemons, but my spells do damage to SL's. Plus I cast a few armageddons here and there..

As for the complainers and the OP, if you've gotta ask "what is supposed to be fun at this event" - the answer is kind of unnecessary, isn't it? We can all tell you why we enjoyed/didn't enjoy the event, but that isn't going to change the fact that you didn't like it. IMHO..

33. rtlfc

I like it though theres a lot of it that I don't understand.

Being there on the first day giving a bonus, I'm getting the bonus on characters that weren't there the first day (including on other shards).

Picking sides. I don't really see how this is being done, in typical Atlantic style it's 'something spawned - kill it - now ask it what it wants'... I hope the choice gets clearer later on.

The spawn. Seems to be much like Maginica... broken. We have hundreds of berserkers hardly any shadowlords - if/when a shadowlord does spawn it's blown up too quick to fight, the stuff (if any) that we're not supposed to be attacking (if it's on our side) attacks us anyway.

The berserkers. Why do they have the ability to suddenly (without damage numbers) half your pets health but have lost the ability to teleport to ranged players as they did in previous invasions?

etc etc etc...

You can get robes without blackrock, ive gotten two of mine just with my dragon and casting spells. It all depends on who gets the first three blackrock spells off really...(if anyone does at all) if the same person blows it up multiple times, then someone who isnt using armaggedon has a good chance of being in the top 3 damagers

Yes, I'm having fun at the event so far... especially Saturday night, even suffering from lag from hades.

I'll be back in alt Moonglow tonight, enjoying it some more, too.

This is one of those events that doesn't fit my playstyle I fear. That's perfectly ok, they don't all have to. I like watching it unfold, I like speculating, I like hearing peoples' stories and joy ... but being in the middle of it ... no, the lag and chaos and death robes are not my style of play. I like pecking away at the edges of a challenge, testing the waters toe by toe, carefully researching all known lore and very slowly building up confidence and experience. I like playing as if I had Siege-like ROT and factions-like temporary stat loss.

( edit: I also rather like to know why I'm fighting ... although we know now that the detector released the shadowlords, at first my reaction was "I've just been thrown into someone else's parallel world ... I can't tell who is or isn't attacking me and how do I know that even those that are aren't attacking the 'invaders' in self-defense?" )

I am enjoying the event for the most part. [IMG]

Granted, I had anticipated something more along the lines of a decisive player-driven battle that would end on that second night (with the outcome being determined by our actions). I personally enjoy loot just as much as the next guy, but I also come to these events for a good story, and a battle that my characters might be able to involve themselves in. That is why I was so disappointed with the loss of the event moderators, because you felt like you had a major impact on the storyline, and I wasn't so selfish to complain just because I missed one or two.

My only major concern is the hints about choosing a side. I was a little worried when I first had seen the ethereal warriors floating about, because I remember Magincia. I am a roleplayer first and foremost, and I follow the lore as much as possible. When at first, we watched the Britannians themselves be responsible for the destruction of Magincia and go unpunished, it left a bit of a bad taste in my mouth. We had the choice (which was spectacular), but we were basically rewarded for being the villian and punished for trying to play the hero. When I saw the ethereal warriors (who have always been described as generally angelic and good-alighned beings), my first thought was "Oh great, are we going to be forced into the role of the bad guy again?" It now has become more apparent that they are probably fallen angels of some sort, but a little bit more of a hint on what we are fighting and why would be nice.

38. I went to the events Friday and Saturday night on two shards (GL and Sonoma) with friends. I enjoyed both evenings. However, I doubt I'll be participating much more in the future.

I appreciate that Draconi and others spent time developing this event, but I guess it just isn't my cup of tea. As with many of the other events we've had in the last year or two, as soon as I start reading about "event items," a switch in my brain seems to flip and my interest immediately starts to wane. I know the items and reselling them for a profit gives a lot of other people enjoyment, so I'm glad there is something going on to keep those people in the game. I'm sure I'll be one of their customers at some point in the future. For now, though, I have plenty of other things to do in UO and look forward to my favorite hunting spots perhaps being a little less crowded than usual. I am just finishing up a spreadsheet listing all my many tamers' pets and see that I have a lot of work to do with training all of them. I know I'll enjoy that and it will also give me a nice pile of gold to spend on whatever cool things people end up selling when this current event is finished.

39. I enjoyed it, even if I didn't do anything except die a couple of times. It was enjoyable just waiting for it to start, and it was enjoyable watching all the action once it got going. But I'm easy to please these days. [IMG]

...

I think they could have waited until the turn-in was ready to go and given people a few options on things to do.

I have a LOT of thoughts on the issue of events both specific to this one and in general, but I would need to gather them into a coherent essay before I posted it... I leave too much out or think of too much after I post one batch of thoughts when done from the top of my head.

It's nothing more than Magencia Part 2 as far as I'm concerned. But of course, the same players that farm items each time an event takes place, will chime in with, "I love it, I have 234 of these and 564 of those," , and then of course we get the joy of reading how much Connor will make during the next week or so because he'll still manage to play Moonglow 23/7 while mining for ingots and keeping his vendors fully stocked. I probably shouldn't have even uglied up this thread with my thoughts, but I couldn't help it. I tried the event, I went with my Necro Mage, and proceeded to get my ass handed to me at every turn. And then I took up the role of Rezzer to a whole slew of ungratefull asses on LA. So for me, it was "Same as it ever was"....but to those that actually "enjoy" it, my hat's off to ya....

Don't hate the player.........hate the game. [IMG]

Btw......ingots, arrows & bolts are available for purchase with plenty in reserve for restocking, along with a couple of demon slayer bows and even a Power heavy crossbow with SSI no less..... [IMG]

[IMG]

I so clearly to spot a guy sucking up to Dev Team.
More fun is it to read you was so brave and great to resieve 2 swords on the event. Grats on that dude.

Second im not a kid. but felt flather over being so young again, and did i had what it take to be in the Dev team. i proberly whould have send a application long time ago.
but never less i speak like i want to. and if i feel like this is a bad mistake of a event i say so. and if i really feel they are incompentente in what they are doing. then so be it.

But today again it prove my point.
i got like 20+ Robes over 300 swords and shields. found nice pieces of jewelry and weps. and now suddenly you cant blow up Shadowlords no more.
thats nice. for all thoese who now spend money on buying rocks to get a robe.

for me i dont care. i got what i wanted out of it. for others. well bad luck i gues.

My second point is. why they make Monstres where it really dosent matter if you got a suit to 100 mill. maxed out skills. 140 hp ect. you just die.
that makes absolute no sence to me what ever. and we aint taking about a new High super end Boss. no a plain Angel in moonglow.

Second. all monstres cast , Para, Nox, Mana drain. or sometimes like 3xFs in 1 second. Again. Absolute totaly over powered.

So many are doing this event. but for fun??? no way. mostly are doing it for getting their share of new stuff.
That why they are down there. Cause if you dont get in on the action. you miss out on many things.

and seriusly i doubt you havent been sitting in your home, Swearing and smacking you keyboard over a new stupid update that screew up alot of old good stuff . like BOS.

But keep up kissing Dev in the behind.
sure you get something good out of it.

I think there are some good ideas with this event, but it's really struggled from a playability standpoint. It's heavily slanted to favor a couple of templates and everyone else is out of luck. Beyond that, it's simply too difficult to be enjoyable because it turns into a mass monster gank insta-kill if you are on a low population shard and/or can only log in off peak hours.

Hmm. Maybe YOU die, but I'm handling things just fine.

47. The kickoff was laggy and frustrating, but now thats out of the way its nice to hunt for something thats different with the threads, cloaks, cursed arties, scythes etc dropping on the critters.

Its nice in that its only during times when the shards are busier that progress gets made, thus stopping a huge flood of the items from those who play most.

Templates of all types are being used, contrary to whats being said, mages, warriors, archers, tamers all doing well.

Curiousity is high to whats going to happen next, especially with the cloaks and threads, so overall its a nice change and has people interested, which is what matters.

So far so good. =)

You don't have to be quite so harsh. And, you might want to consider running your post through spell checker before you make such bold posts.

49. no, not happy with it at all. not AT all.

ok maybe the player interaction is ok.
but i feel cheated because of the first night rollout. it should have been redone all weekend at the least.

50. I enjoy it quite much, although there are things I do not understand yet. I think you have to be patient. The event will take at least 2 weeks and the plot will unveil itself in the course of time.
