it used to be you tell the dragon to attack itself and its health bar would turn green and it would go around killing everything that locked on it.

now it seems if you do that, after a short time like a minute or so, the bar turns back blue and the dragon will no longer auto target anything..

    was this on purpose?

I have no idea. The only time I've told my pet to attack itself it's been an accident of mistargetting. This seems a very strange way to hunt with a pet. Am I missing something?

thats so you can put it in a dungeon and leave it there to farm virtue drops, with no chance of dying while you go elsewhere

that what it sounds like to me

i wouldnt know about that, but how i used it was if you are in an area where there are several mobs (like a champ spawn) you can stealth around and the dragon will follow you (unlike if you tell it to guard you) but still attack back to things that target it (unlike if you just say follow me).

if this was intended its not very good.. since when you say follow me, the dragon will follow you no matter what and not attack anything, and when you say guard me it runs off killing everythign in sight.

I think this was a change that was made when they nerfed pet balls a couple of years ago. It was a good change in my opinion but I can see how it would screw you up with your system. The problem was that before it could be hard to get a pet to follow you consistently if you were trying to pull it away from trouble and often the only reliable way to pull a pet that was determined to get itself killed was a pet ball. There were also flagging bugs with guarding that could get you in trouble in pvp, and I think those were fixed at the same time.

i know that change, but the work around was to tell it to attack itself then it kinda did its own thing but still followed you around.

it seems to be not working anymore.

It happened around three years ago now. They added animations, a casting time, cooldown, and made the summoning interruptible. Old news this... :)
