Why hasn't something been done to the Vine Cord sandles?

Just before a townhall meeting, you tactically nuke (which I greatly appluaded, btw) a scripter, leaving his houses burning through the nights and days (which is awesome, I'd like them to stay forever that way). Something out of the blue.

Now, we have this situation where it's a well known fact that all the Vine Cords that are currently around are dupes.

Knowing this, why hasn't something been done about them?

You make claims of anti-duping/anti-scripting, well, show it.

I have a better soultion. Have UO put vine cord sandals into the game to be sold for 500 gold, on NPC vendors. Then the duped ones would be worthless.

Haha no I think EA should ban then from being sold on vendors. That should fix the problem.

Thats not going to fix anything. People will just find another way to sell em like on stratics rares collectors forum.

That wouldn't be very efficient. People would just sell them via other means. I say put them on an NPC Vendor. I wouldn't say 500gp, because of the item properties. Non of my chars have more than 300k in their bank, most have under 100k. I'd pay say, about, 100k per pair of vine cord sandles, because of the resists.

If they were unique items, then that means that the only person that had them, most likely, allowed them to be duped. That combined with common sence/buyer beware would suggest that no innocent people would be adversly effected by the sale of the sandles via NPC Vendors.

It might also be a small gold sink.

That imo is the best solution. People who paid millions for the item can only complain about the loss of gold, but they'd still have the item. If you remove the item, you're doing a double whammy to the people who bought it. Loss of gold and item.

Anyway, this solution of removing or introducing vine cords as a common item still does not hurt the people responsible for the duping of this item. The people responsible for the whole mess are still millions of gold richer and will not care if vinecords get changed as they still have their gold they got from initially selling the item.

So in the end, if a change is made, hooray.. you're appeasing the masses while not really hurting the people responsible, just hurting the people who were dumb enough to buy the item.

It's funny... my opinion on scamming is buyer beware which is not a favorable view by most Uhallers. This is basically the same thing. You're selling a common item as a rare and getting millions for it, essentially scamming people out of gold, however everyone is so quick to say screw those people, even though technically they're getting scammed.

Similar. However, banning someone and trying to help fix an insurance bug need to be handled differently. Not allowing an item, that is insured, onto a vendor can be automated efficiently. Banning someone for selling Vine cord sandles on a vendor would be dangerous. There's too big of a chance that the person selling the item is not the person that broke the rules. Someone shouldn't be banned for obtaining a duped item then trying to sell it on a Vendor. The loss of value, of the item, is more acceptable than banning.

Having two huge threads on this wasn't enough - you had to start another?

What is folks' beef with these things? They have some small extra elemental resists, cost at least 300M a pair and there are like 20 pairs out there in use including the dupes.

Unlike the shrouds that became monk's robes that could only be created illegally and were all over Sosaria there is no way way to identify the original one or two pairs of VCs so we are going to punish the owner of the original pair(s) to please a bleating few on UOHall?

Most of the posts I see about VCs smack of jealousy to me.

Tell me again WHERE you see them for sale at 300K a pair. Try more like 300MILL per pair. And there are more than 20 pairs out there. One pair, let me stress.. ONE PAIR is legit, the rest are dupes. So yes I guess that 1 person with the original pair should be punished for allowing THAT pair to be duped in the first place eh? =/

First, they said 300m, not 300k, second you're both wrong, there are more than 20 pairs, and not a single pair is legit as the original pair was banned long ago after having been used to make about a half dozen dupes. All current pairs in circulation are either original dupes, or dupes of dupes. Also more likely the owner of the original sold them and they were purchased by someone who then duped them.

Throw them on a vendor for, say, 50k each, or have them drop as loot from Peerless, Doom, and/or non-Fel Champ spawns. Keep the name, keep the stats, just throw a "I was screwed by a duper" tag on the current ones. [IMG]

Just get rid of them, have them go 'poof' gone If their sitting a vendor
delete the vendor. And put a black mark on the accounts that had a pair,
1 mark for each pair.. Its not like every one doesn't know they have
    been duped anyway. [IMG] [IMG]

It's a moot point, but there is no edit label with time info anywhere their post which means quite simply you misread it, but as I said its not particuarly important.

Unless the owner, or an associate of the owner reads these forums and chose to comment that is impossible to verify, as you're talking about an item that has existed and changed hands numerous times. Regardless though the original pair has been banned.

I think that the original owner was banned and the original pair was lost because of that. Not 100% sure though, just what I've read on these boards. If it's true, then deleting them all or making them available to everyone are the best options.

havent they said in past fencers of duped items are just as guilty as dupers! some of these sellars, have sold multiple ones, each month, so if a broker and no is a dupe shouldnt they get account looked at all rest listed dupes go poof too!!!!

Theoretically yes, but b/c they have allowed the exchange of this item to go on for so long they most likely feel that it is in their best interest to avoid this course of action as it would result in the banning of hundreds of people who have owned vine cords at some point.

Also as we do not have any idea of the actual number, what would happen if they deleted all the vine cords? How many people would shrug off the loss of anywhere from 100m-1bil or cash terms 150$ - 1,500$. I can assure you most people would be shocked and horrified, not to mention outraged. Yes the tos clearly states it is a possibility, but you can be assure that EA would lose a significant portion of their player base that day, and as EA is a company, profit is its number one concern, and encouraging a mass exodus of that nature doesnt fit into the plan to continue turning a profit.

Maybe not delete them... maybe make them cursed... maybe make them available to all players for some set fee and create a lil ole gold sink...

If a hundred exist, most of them would not be on accounts suspected of duping or other activities against the tos, but on accounts of players who purchased them.

So what would happen is those players who bought an item are now out a significant amount of money, and you can expect that the vast majority would probably quit. So yes youll get rid of dupers, and alot of other players as well, but the difference is the dupers have already made their money and can be back in buisness in a few days, the customer who bought the items wont be back.

Deleting items isnt a solution, nor is making an item available to everyone, b/c then the dupers will simply move to another item and another item and another item.

The only solution is to find a way to prevent duping and scripting. Once thats done the economy will begin to correct itself, it will take time, and may need some dev team assistance, but it will happen.

I have to disagree with you. I very seriously doubt a 'significant' number of people would quit because they deleted the sandles. I think it would be closer to maybe a handful, if that.

    For me, I would prefer:

    1. Delete them
    2. Make them availible for purchase
    3. Make them availible as arties through doom/virtue-like drops/treasure chest

I think the real question is why would they do anything about Vine Cord Sandles. Unless a duper has them stock piled, they made out like a bandit a long time ago. Deleting them now would just hurt mostly rare collectors, who don't need to get beat up anymore than they already have.

With all the new armslore and barbedkit changes what are they realy worth anyhow. All my chars are in 70s suits and I dont even have a need for the boost at all. The main thing now is as a rare are they as valuable as you all seem to think.?

    No!

There needs to be a step in place to BIND or BLESS item to one person as the are picked up. not allowing for these items to be dropped or traded. The same rule that is used in quest items no drop no trade.. This allone on HIGH Reward type items would STOP this in it's tracks. The tallismans that are OWNED by ARE doing this in part . It needs to be used on the very high end reward type stuff.
