Do gargoyles need a buff?

Back when gargoyles had extra jewelry slots, there was a way to balance out their numerous weaknesses -- maybe the added jewelry slots overbalanced these weaknesses, but without them, it seems to me that they are pretty weak, except in very specific cases. And one of those cases -- the PvP GD-toting tamer, has been nerfed with the most recent publish. I realize that flapping gargoyles annoy some people, and you're certainly entitled to that opinion, but I think the devs did intend for gargoyles to at least be competitive with current races (and I, for one, think they look pretty stylin'). So...do you think gargoyles need a buff, and if so, what would you do to improve them?

they need something thats for sure the changes to jewelery was a mistake it need to be reverted !
the only reason i made a gargoyle was for 50 imbuing and the bonus they get! as soon as i hit 120 he will be deleted as they are worthless compared to elf/human !
    thats just my opinion !

Umm... Have you noticed the resists when making gargoyle armor? They are insane...

    Earrings replace helmet

Kilt replaces crimo (and is better). Gargs miss gloves thou.

  4. guum

    guum Guest

They have to be, because jewelry doesn't come with resists built in like helms and gloves do.

I find it really hard to get dci past 45 since you need to get 70 dci to counter HLD :sad4:

Wow. The kilt replaces gloves, it's just on a different part of the body.\

But yeah I really don't like gargoyles as is. You can't get HLD from headgear, you can't get the 20 extra dex that humans and elves can get (cincture and jackal's), your FCR has to be from jewelry or weapon/shield (you can't use Inquisitor's Resolution or the Helm of Swiftness (like anyone uses that one anyway)), overall they're pretty weak compared to other races other than resists.

Also they can't use most of the armor sets that are ingame currently, because of the no gloves deal. No Assassin's Suit, which is kinda lame since other races can use it to get 50-60 Swing Speed Increase.

It's looking pretty hard to equip my mystic gargoyle. None of the artifacts will convert over. Also, gargish earrings and necklaces are not meddable, so I'd have to imbue mage armor property which will take away from something else I need. I am going to convert back to human. Maybe as time goes on gargoyles will be more viable.

But are you using the new "gargoyle necklace" / "gargoyle earring"? (regular jewelry is not imbuable ... new items were added at the last minute)

I was using store bought ones and looted ones (I haven't tried crafted ones yet)
    Where did you get yours?

I'm sorry i justed logged on to see there is in fact the mage property on it it! sorry.

But all this make's the gargolye race basically useless to play unless your a crafter, but i don't even think a crafter would want to be one:sad4:

One of the dev, said that altering artifact armors/weps was borked and being worked on.

Something about the properties not coming over correctly from the alter.

That would really ruin the resists for a gargoyle.

The devs should have made some gargoyle artifacts.

They did make gargoyle artifacts, they just aren't (to me at least) as good as the existing ones. <_<

Unless you were being sarcastic, in which case: They don't seem to be as good as the existing ones.

Dev's need to make the garg earring's and necklace medable,it's a pain in the ass to get the cloth's to imbue mage armour property on them everytime i die(i play seige).

I think gargoyles are still young for judgement as if they are weak or not.

I created runic armor for my gargoyle and he's currently all 70's with 6 MR 29 LMC and 4 stamina regen.

My ring and brace are human with no resists on them and i only have about 30 resists combined imbued on my earrings and necklace.

I think I'll only miss the glasses with the extra HLD on them. Otherwise my gargoyle is on par with my human - the LMC bonus from JOAT.

And can you tell me how to get the 70 dci needed to counter the HLD on everyone's weapon's?

Having 70 DCI is a waste for starters. I don't even want to hear your argument for it, I have tested it on real shards with real numbers.

  28. Well now, aren't you just the special one, with your testing on a real shard with real numbers. :twak:

HLD lowers your defense chance and can be negated by having DCI over the cap.

There's a simple statement for ya that is 100% fact, regardless of what your testing on real shards with real numbers says. Maybe you should try out test first, so you can test it on a fake shard with fake numbers. Maybe then you'll get your answer right.

Hmmm...I was thinking about doing a mysticism/imbuing gargoyle -- seems to be the only real remaining build where being a gargoyle makes sense. But if it's that hard to equip I may just stay human and eat the extra failures when imbuing that 5th mod. It's already a sacrifice to lose JoaT and/or the mana and have to deal with flying.

    What is the Kilt?

And what all slots differ between elves and gargolyes?

Gargs get four regular armor slots:

    Arms
    Chest
    Kilt
    Legs

    And four jewel slots:

    Ring
    Brace
    Earrings
Necklace (gargs can wear pendant of magi with no alteration needed)

The problem is that the 4 "jewel" slots are actually only imbuible if you use the "armor" versions meaning that mods like DEX increase are harder to get on a gargoyle... not to mention the earings and neckless (armor) versions have horrible base resists... I'd rather gargs have helm and collar than the semi-useless neckless and earing slot (the armor versions aren't even MEDABLE). so in recap gargs have 4 armor slows, 2 jewel slots, and 2 crapy place holder slots

Yeah, the switch from necklace and earrings having jewelry mods to armor mods seems kinda sloppily done. I think the devs said at some point that it was "unintentional" for gargs to have 4 jewelry-mod slots, but I call BS on that. I think they figured it was a fair trade-off for some of the gargoyles' handicaps, but the outcry convinced them otherwise. Personally, I thought it was kind of an interesting trade-off...harder to get the necessary resists + all the other stuff that goes along with gargoyle weaknesses, but in return, the option for more skills, hci, dci, and sdi on gear. But shrug...to me it's less a question of how they fix gargoyles than that they do it.

Also, am I the only one who is sorely disappointed by "flying"? Like, back in early 2009, I was thinking, "this is gonna be great -- gargoyles are going to be able to fly around like dragons and daemons!". No, they just have an invisible ethy that costs stamina but doesn't take up a pet slot. I can see the PvP ramifications of the former, but I don't see what it would hurt to let them fly for real on trammel rulesets. Lame.

For a $30 expansion, they should've had this one pegged. I'm gonna wait till this stuff is sorted out before I pay.

Making earrings non-med by default just plain stinks.
