Do I need snooping to steal from champion spawns?

I visited Despise tonight, people would just shoot at me as soon as I appeared, so I stole from the boss... 2407 gold :sad2:

Do I need snooping to browse through the boss inventory, or is what you steal completely random?

    Thanx

In general, a thief won't be much of a thief without snooping. Random stealing runs the risk of attempting to steal an insured or blessed item - which you can't. So you'll reveal with no chance of stealing the item. Also, grabbing a random item isn't nearly as fullfilling as hand picking the item you wish to steal.

I believe every thief is going to need stealing, snooping, hiding and stealth. From there you can choose other skills to suit your preference/playstyle. I prefer Ninjitsu, wrestling and magery.

Now you did mention stealing from the champ. While I haven't tried in a long time, I was under the impression that you couldn't steal from monsters anymore. Barracoon may be different since he starts off as a human. If you can, I can't imagine the champ will have the scrolls in his pack. Otherwise, you could get the champ up with a warrior, switch over to your thief and just steal all the scrolls with relatively little risk. (steal, run away, repeat). But if they do, please let me know!

As far as people shooting you as soon as you appear, get used to that. My primary method after stealing is to use invisibility charged jewelry. As a backup, I use the invis spell with protection on. As long as you can live the few seconds it takes to cast, you should be alright. Keep in mind, you can begin stealthing right away now, but you must hide at some point. Otherwise, once your spell wears off, you'll reveal. Or your invis jewelry will keep burning charges.

If you want any tips or lessons learned from my champ spawn stealing, let me know and I'll pass along the knowledge I've obtained over the years.

I'm returning to the game, so i'm certain of nothing :)

But I read somewhere, and it confirmed in Despise, that you can steal from champion bosses, which I did, but only once, so even if snooping is possible you're only going to steal a single scroll of power.
So, what I'd like to know is if anyone ever snooped a champion?

BTW, what is that invisibility charged jewelry you're talking about? Wasn't that some treasure chest loot back in the days? I can't see any way to charge jewelry with spells ATM, let me know how it is done :)

Well, I will definately try to hit despise in the next day or two. I'll let ya know about the scrolls and stealing there.

The invisibility jewelry (and boots, cloaks, hats and necklaces) was from a long time ago. I think around the year 2000 timeframe. As a starting thief, I paid 10k per charge. I've since acquired most of my invis items through IDOCs.

You can steal from monsters and if you do it in fel dungeons there is a chance of getting the somewhat new potions and items. You can only steal gold, gems, or the potions from monsters (and it is random on what you will get), so no you can't steal scrolls from the boss, but you can steal the scrolls from people. Snooping isn't needed since there isn't a way to look into a monsters backpack. Snooping is only needed if your planning on stealing items from other people in fel and would like to open their pack and target a certain item, otherwise with out snooping you will just randomly steal an item if your able.

You can also carry invisiblity pots. I think it is a 2 second delay between drinking the pot and actually going invisible.

I was able to snoop Barracoon last night before he converted to a rat. His pack contained 5 stacks of gold ranging between 1000-2000. Nothing else.
