I would assume that he's referring to the better mods on spellbooks. Which, as I'm aware, is the current mystery question for scribes--DOES it have to be real, or will using jewelry result in more/better mods?
Likely the sort of question we'll never know the answer to for sure, unless they decide to divulge it in a FoF one day.
I am trying to make a few nice Spellbooks. when I first started, I was using a character with 100 magery plus jewelry to 120. out of about 50 spellbooks, I only had 1 that I kept. then I switched to 120 real skill, and out of about 60, i have made about 15. Just thought I would let you know. gonna stay at it for just a while longer. hoping to make me a nice super slayer.
What do you consider to be worth keeping? I usually only find 1 or 2 books per 100 worth keeping with 110 real magery. I only keep books with 3 mods and super slayers.
