Doom Question

I have tried doom a couple times, and every time, I die quickly. I have only tried the dark fathers, as I am unable to get past them.

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

    My template is:

    120 swords
    120 bushido
    120 tactics
    120 resist
    100 necro
    90 parry
    65 chiv

My suit is what I consider very ubber, and all 70's resist.

I'm using a demon slayer sword, with mana leech and stamina leech and 20% SS, with 40DI

Even if I constantly cast curse weapon, I still die quickly.

I ride a swamp dragon, and honor the DF.

If anyone could give me some advise, that would be VERY much appreciated.

  2. Curse Weapon duration is based on Spirit Speak. You don't need to use it.

With what you have you should be in Vamp Form.

I would say your Tactics & Parry skill levels are the wrong way around.

You didn't mention which weapon you're using, but I would say an Ornate Axe is best, then a Double Axe, Rune Blade or Daisho, depending on what you can swing at the cap.

You should bring it to a place where only the DF can hit you, there's at least 3, 1 is opposite the path to the shop.

When you get Blood Oathed hit Evasion and Remove Curse with Chivalry, if you don't use apples that is.

Remove Curse every so often anyway, use Divine Fury if needed to replenish Stamina, having low Stamina raises the damage from Strangle.

Use Dispel Evil to remove Revnants.

I use a radiant Schimitar, but can switch to an axe easy enough

    I have 191 dex

I most of the time ca't see when I'm blaod oathed. as I'm spamming lightning strike and such.

If I eat an apple, does it last a long time, or is it an immediate reaction to the blood oath?

  4. The base damage on a Radiant Scimitar is probably too low.

I'm not sure why you can't see when you're Blood Oathed as there is a big red blob animation appear on both you and it when it happens. However you could always have your buff/debuff bar showing.

Eating an Enchanted Apple is a 1 time Remove Curse, the same as casting it from Chivalry, only instant, and with a 15 second re-use timer.

First, template is fine, i use a similar one and it works well. Only difference is, i use fencing instead swords. Less stamina, but 40 lmc on suit.
Demon slayer leafblade, 30 ssi + 5 from items, mana leech, stam leech, hla. Daisho would work well for swords.
The trick is to sit in a corner so that not all of the spawn can reach you. Feint, lightning strike, momentum strike, an apple now and then. Evasion if needed.

So you all use Momentum strike instead of whirlwind? I'm usually with a group in doom so I use my trusty black staff. But we're not tucked in the corner so stuff can come from all directions.

Double Axe, Lage Battle Axe, & Halbered also have whirlwind.

  8. In Doom I rarely have enough stuff on me for Whirlwind to be worthwhile.

Well, I meant particularly for the Dark Fathers where the bones spawn undead creatures.

  10. I did too, I just fight it in the corner. Whirlwinding everything just causes more to spawn and kills your durability. The only time I kill the extra spawn is if its Lich Lords, as they Wither constantly when flagged on something.

A long time ago I used to have a Whirlwind weapon with Hit Dispel for the Revnants.

Hmmm... Good info. I'm going to put resist temporsarily on my sampire and give the corner a try.

When you had your mystic dexxer who used on Slasher, did you ever solo the Doom Gauntlet with him?

  12. No but he could. Doom is really easy on most if not all templates.

I must just be stupid, cause I can't get Doom to work for the life of me.

I tried your suggestions, and I just can't stay alive.

I even put hit life leech on my weapon in hopes it would help, and it didn't.

I can solo just about everything else I have tried though.

  14. What is it killing you with?

I think blood oath, but I am wacking away, doing good, then next thing I know, Boom dead.

I do not even notice what happens.

  16. You shouldn't be getting one hit killed from Blood Oath with 120 Resist on your template. It has an animation - a big red blob, a sound effect, and appears on your buff/debuff bar - during which time you should hit Evasion and Remove Curse with Chivalry or an apple. If you can't see or hear any of that happening I don't know what else to tell ya.

yah, I know what you mean. I just need to pay closer attention when I do it.

My problem is I played a mage for about 10 years, and now playing this sampire, so I have a lot of learning to do so to speak.

I have no doubt I'll eventually get it.

I solo'd dreadhorn the other day and finally killed him, so I know I can do it if I pay attention, I just need to pay attention.

If you can solo dreadhorn, you can solo doom. I suspect you are correct that you just need to pay closer attention. Keep at it til you find a style that works for you.

Although the dark father has less burst damage potential than some of the other doom mini bosses, you do want to pay attention to the various curses he puts on you. Lethal poison from the spawned rotters, plus strangle, plus corpse skin, plus a blood oath timed before you can stop your swing can all add up to a fairly large burst. With 120 resist, it’s unlikely this will kill if you have high hit points. My guess is that you are letting your hit points fall below the threshold where this curse combo or similar is what is wtf killing you. Individually, none of the poisons/curses are a big deal, so you may just be ignoring them. Since I don’t use pots or apples, I’ll strategically retreat (run away!) when I’m hit with a strangle/oath/lethal poison combo – even if I am using resist.

I’ll differ from the other suggestion in that I find it easier to do the df in the open and whirlwind is key. Since imbuing makes usable df weapons relatively cheap/easy to get, durability isn’t an issue for me. The advantage of being in the open is that, as a samurai, I want multiple critters next to me. The whirlwind damage bonus compounds the more critters I hit. This increases the amount of weapon mana/stam and vamp life leech I get as well. It also means lich lord casters can move next to me and I can kill them faster. I also use confidence and evade to heal and deflect some damage.
