why do these sell for more than a copper and shadow iron hammers?
I know why bronze hammers sell for 200k to 300k but why dull copper ?

Likely has to do with imbuing. If you are trying to make 100% damage element (neon) weapons, dull copper hammers are the best way to go because you can get good weapons without using a lot of properties. These weapons are used as "blank slates" to make great imbuing weapons for certain monster types (fire damage VS ice creatures for example). They are also good for making stuff to unravel to obtain residue and essence.

They can produce a single 100% mod (which with 50 shots might give you one that requires Relic Frags to Imbue saving imbuers the resources).

DC runics move... I was actually worried about moving the ones I had (they went within a DAY of putting them up pon my vendor, but for a lot less than 50k per).

Shadows don't move at 10k much less any more than that.

hmm thanx for the fast reply's

I have over 90 dull copper, 130 shadow and like 45 copper but only 20 or so bronze.

I take it you start out with iron then try to enhance with the proper metal to try and get a 100% elly if you don't bet 1 first try ?

You have 50 tries per hammer, so you bang away till you get the 100% mod you want and recycle the rest.

Then finish your modifications through imbuing planning for that final enhance through materials if you are very brave.

If you think that is wonkers, you should see the prices for PoF. If you you are nearly as well set in that category you can make a mint!

Oh yeah. A little admission here... yeah I use that one search site, not to buy anything, but to see what the general market (read: mainly Luna) is charging so I can then get on Global chat and sell for less (or put an my own vendor for less)...research is GOOD.

Anyway, yeah, in the past week, in one single chunk of 50 and 15 singles on my vendor, I've sold 65 PoF jars for a TIDY sum of gold... now I have to work up some more PoF (and runic) deeds!

even being uncertain of shard I'm pretty sure you could sell a hundred jars at a go for around 15 to 20 mil give or take

I've gotten 2 or 3 gold hammers, but that's as high as I've been able to get. There are a few legitimate Val hammers (not really sure how many), but a LOT of them are believed to be duped... if you're seeing 5 or 10 on a vendor, probability states that most if not all are duped.

All information is potentially useful. To me it's a resource much like Stratics or Thottbot is for WoW. Since UO doesn;t have a nice centralized database system (like an auction house), it's nice to have one to decide price points for a vendor NOT in Luna.

Case in point, say I want to sell a batch of PoF, I go to said site, pull up LS and search for "Powder of Fort", look at the prices listed, then undercut by a little to assure both product movement and that I'm not pricing too low or too high.

While I would have no problem SELLING stuff myself, I have NO desire to BUY something in that manner.

Oh yeah, well I have over 200 of each hammer, and 658 pof, and 1700 more books full of good bods.....oh and a Full Time job.....and I don't cheat...*uses the more effective* rolls eyes method.

btw this isn't directed at any single player, I just get sick of these types of responsive every now and then...

    - Well I do not support that site with hits myself, but I do like hearing that PoF can sell for 150K to 200K without much trouble... kind of makes me want to go fill some of the stored BoDs again. I could probably use a good 50-100 mill. gold.

Best I've made is 1 or 2 gold hammers. I did get gold, agapite and a few verite from that one event (the one that several people on Origin got quite a few valorite hammers from, before they cut back the rewards for the other shards). But that handout resulted in my stopping of the habitual daily BoD gathering and ruined the enjoyment of finally creating one myself / that along with the 'turn one in get one back' -BoD change. It kind of felt like cheating, thus it made that aspect of the game more boring and less appealing, for me.

The 'turn one in, get a new one' aspect IMO helped out BODs a LOT. AAlso 150k is what I sold my PoF for and yeah it went FAST at that price... the batch of 50 sold on the first call out in Global chat, the rest didn't last a day on the vendor. Needless to say... lots of gold and little time spent.

    - The 'turn one in & get one' -thing was a lot of fun to me too in the beginning. Then I began to get burned out on them after considering it essentially an infinite loop rather than being limited by the number of bsmiths one has. Don't get me wrong, I see how it is a lot of fun still and I see how it went a good way toward leveling the BoD field. It just allowed me, personally with a few bsmiths, to get burned out and lose the desire to keep playing that system nearly daily (I do predict I will get back into them again for a time, but it won't be a consistant near daily lotto again, for me).

If it were ONLY the top end rewards that were worth anything I'd agree wholeheartedly, but I also use the 3 mining tools constantly (sturdy, prosp, garg) and of course the PoF for use and sell... since they're easy enough to get, it makes it easier to keep interest... again, just IMO.

I fill those excep weapon BODs with dulls and just buy the weapons from the NPC for normals. It is all about making weapons with one mod like 50 lightning, 30 SSI or any the white pearl imbue mods / super slayers. And with the ease of getting super slayer ingre. Can make some super super slayers with those 100% eli damage. Same can go for the other lesser runics. If a kit can hit a 10 of this and 5 relics then a runic should go for that much. In the end an Ophid Slayer or Repond with 50 area/50 spell/30SSI and DI on a spin attack weapon can be fun.

And when you see those pile of val hammers on the vendor look at the durability. It wasn't the hammers that had been duped but the BOD. Then there are the accounts with all mules on all shards that BOT BoDs all/every day. Then you have all that val hammer made sammy plate that the proud crafter optioned their name off the crafted by. Thats just an honest player that had to stoop low or a dirty one burning up some vals to make room.

I've filled a lot of bods. That is a serious understatement. There was a lot of gold to be made at one point from pof and I had a good source of reg iron bods along with my smiths.

I'd do somewhere around 1k bods at the time week after week. It is seriously boring to actually hit all the keys, but its not hard to do, and you can make a whole lot selling pof by the 100.

You will get a Verite now and then, some Agaps and a good amount of Gold hammers this way though. The best items I've ever made were from Bronze hammers.

My point is I'm still not even close to getting a Valorite hammer. Legit Valorite hammer deeds are a seriously rare item.

Not as hard to get val hammers as people make it seen. Sure first it takes a huge collection and dedication to bods. How one aquires a huge collection they might of started casualy years ago or bought it of another or dedicate a whole lot of time to get it but once that huge collection is produced they can shoot 1-2 valorites a month maybe more if they spend most of there UO time with this addiction.
Without a collection a bod collector is doomed to live in bronze hammer and lower oblivion. Though gold and higher hammers price and worth has droped considerably compare to the amount of effort collectors put in to it. So it's just better to continously make pof than to concentrate on higher end rewards these days.

as has been mentioned already, they broke blacksmithing when they made imbuing ridiculously OP and unbalanced the game so the only runic worth a damn is one that will yield the LEAST possible mods so that the best you can get from ANY runic is saving materials for imbuing...
And I have burned a vast amount of top end runics to know
how useless they are. It is unfortunate as I always liked the craft.

Thing is unless you have Valorite and verite runics and ALOT of luck, you can tailor your items with imbuing.

The high end armour still isnt useles...its just that its so much easier to get with imbuing.

If i ever get my hands on another val hammer ill definatly burn it. If i see one for fairly cheap ill still buy it as well to burn.

Other than that though, DC and shadow hammers are all i use. I do burn the bronze's and such but thats only to get frags and essence.

True Imbuing broke crafting BOD high end runics. Of the two evils I'll take Imbuing over those hacks with 100s of val hammers.

After retiring I took 4 years of me time and 14+ hours a day UO. After all this time from the BOD start I'm at 4 of 7 val hammer BODs. IMO there is no way before chat to get val hammer set without cheating. As a hoarder just have to find more time to mine to burn up those 100s of DC hammers. Then gathering all that imbuing stuff needed to make sweet weapons. But all the running events do keep us busy. There is no end to the fun and things to do in UO when you work to your own goals honestly. Bonus you'll never have time to cry about the graphics, just how small tongs are.

Agree with Imbuing ruining the other crafts, but I'm not so sure all the hammers etc on the market are duped these days; I've managed to get 3 Verite Hammers, and half the 20 Valorite Exceptional Plate BODs simply from IDOCs in the last 2 months... as well as nearly 8,000 BODs other in total. Which I've then filled and turned in just to make space to store them! So last weekend I sold about 30 Spined Runics in one go, all legitimate, just from Tailor LBODs I was filling as I sorted the IDOC books...

That's not to say there aren't duped ones out there, I expect there are plenty. But for the committed BODder, with so many houses falling, a lot of BODs are coming onto the market.

After they change the way bod turn in worked it was infinetely more easily to get high end rewards. Turn 1 in get a new one back. You could do this all day with the junk bods. Junk bods was received from all your characters every hour. Just had to dedicate some time to this for the junk bods and then just fill and turn them all in then repeat over and over with the same bods you got back. It was a life sent things got easier but still needed the collection perfect balance. Before this valorite hammers where extremly rare. After this valorite, verite, gold became much more easily available.

Unfortunetely for the dupe that happen for a few months ruined alot of the effort of us dedicated boders. Most all of them were sold and burned so there not many left from that episode these days. Though I hate imbuing for what it did to the efforts of us crafters that we put in for so many years. Now everyone with just a few minutes time can produce top end items without much effort. It's almost test center effort. Most are not even dedicated to the craft.

For us dedicated crafters events don't mean much to us only the craft and the collecting. So no matter how many events they try to keep us busy with we will never be happy unless we can make something unique from our efforts.

Whether Shadow Hammers (and coppers, for that matter) sell depends on the shard.

I routinely see Shadow hammers selling at the in-game auction I work in for the same amount, or more, as DC, on Lake Austin (roughly 50k each). Copper hammers aren't much different, but rarely seen.

Bronze hammers, on the other hand, are the highest Runic you can get from a small BOD (and there are a lot of useless small BODs that either don't have larges or whose larges suck), and are the primary means of creating Relic Fragments by smiths (there's a method that works for Carpenter/Imbuers without runics, but that version uses wood that's too hard to find, and more likely to be nerfed).

POF, I've seen sell at auction, from a low of 3 jars per million, to a more common 350-400k each, and sometimes as much as 500k if a bidding war starts. ON LA, the problem isn't getting the BODs for it as much as getting the ingots to fill them, as the Val Hammer shenanigans UOKaiser mentioned above drove away most of our for-profit smith miners, leaving those of us left mostly supplying ourselves, while dealing with all the new content drawing us away from crafting (starting with the replicas and SOTs on non-fel spawns, and carrying on through the various event cycles, SA and training up Imbuers).

Losing 10 ingot vendors might not get noticed on Atlantic, but if your shard only had 6 legit and 4 cheaters to start with, and loses all the legit ones to players taking temporary or permanent leave from the game at about the same time the cheaters went up in flames, you get hit with a resource crunch pretty quickly - and everyone was too busy chasing replicas, event rares and the like to even consider picking up the slack. I mean, which would you do - mine 35 of the 40 hours a week you can play, and craft 2-4 of the remaining 5 - or go out and do spawns, explore new areas and chase after neat new items with your guildmates for those 40 hours?

The simple fact is that the gatherer/crafter-only players were a dying breed even before AoS, and were pretty much gone by ML. Most people left will choose playing an adventurer, spawner or PvP fighter over mining, if there's more than a minimum amount of activity within one or more of their guilds when they log in.
