Here is the new front page poll. [IMG]

    And the follow-up questions are........................

    ~

  2. I picked "Leaving the game....not planning to move to EA Land."

I plan on taking a few sims to EA Land, but nothing compared to what I was playing in the production cities. I'll close more accounts this month.

  4. As to when I plan to move.....
I put undecided as it all depends on if I have an available slot.

  5. I'll be creating a sim the day the city opens. I love entering the new frontier with nothing and playing with others towards a common goal. I know eventually, my older sims will be merged to the city and I will continue with their lives as well. Until then, I will play with a new sim and accomplish what I can until help arrives from my others [IMG]

I'll wait and see if there's anything left to play, or it all falls flat on its face as I expect it to.

... not an unreasonable expectation, considering a) it was announced by EA, b) a european release date was given to all major game stores. The fact it was quietly forgotten, then EA pretended that they never planned the worldwide release does not change all that.

You know, it's more than possible that if TSO had been given the proper worldwide release that was planned, we wouldn't have ended up in this situation now with it being an embarrassment to EA, and more or less forgotten it ever existed with the rebranding.

AJ is correct that EA planned and announced it, and then dropped it, so I don't really get the "not prophetic" comment.

AJ - Although a worldwide release would have no doubt helped subscription numbers, the fundamental problem was EA steadfastly refusing to listen to their beta testers and dev's that TSO wasn't anywhere near ready for release, but doing so anyway. As the horrible subscription numbers have proven, the actual game design for TSO was fatally flawed.

I agree with you that this attempt to turn TSO into SL lite isn't going to work, but that's for a different thread.

  13. I plan to move with all of my sims stuff, property etc. If I had a slot open, I would move the first day, but I don't want to delete an old sim...unless you can use a TC3 slot...which I doubt.

I chose a combination for money making. I would love to own or live in a store. I enjoyed that back in my first months of playing, 4 years ago. Also, I will be doing the job track... DJ and Robot Factory. I love computer graphics so I might see how CC plays out and get into designing.

I know it is tradition -- or is it bloodsport? -- to discount or criticize whatever AJ says. To discount his comment by suggesting the UK is Europe is to discount a ninth of the world's population. Europe includes Albania, Andorra, Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Malta, Moldova, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, russia, San Marino, Servia and Montenegro, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, Vatican City. I'd suggest that if even a third of those countries could have accessed TSO by a direct release (i.e., without having to mail to the US) the TSO history may well have been quite different.

AJ wasn't the only player who waited avidly for the announced by EA release. Many, many players were disappointed. How many others were not even given the chance to sign on for lack of knowledge?

I've all but quit the game. I don't play, mainly because the graphics thing scares me. My graphics are up to date and I'm not exactly ecstatic to mess with them any more than necessary, so...

But assuming I do come back (which is kinda inevitable) I'll probably focus on keeping up a house, skilling, and maybe finding things that catch my interest. Ya never know... [IMG]

  17. I don't know why AJ is so annoyed. He's in the UK and can play. Unless the rest of Europe is knocking on his door..

FYI most of my family is in central Europe. They don't care they can't play TSO.
And if they could play TSO right now because Luc saw this and said oh em gee AJ is correct.. let's release in Europe!.. they'd be a little pissed at all the English titled stuff.

... because there are often few people on at the times that are convenient for me to play, as most of the US playerbase is either at work or school.

I play WoW, signed up on the US servers by choice to play with friends there, rather than starting blind on the european servers. There, it has an advantage, because it's quiet and there aren't dozens of other mobs trying to kill that rare spawning character at the same time you are doing that quest. You can also 'solo' very well there and group up with others as you need to on some quests.

SL has a big enough playerbase (North America as a whole is less than 30% there) and is an excellent example of how a worldwide game *can* be run - so there are always thousands of others on at the time I am, however as most of my SL time is work rather than socialising it doesn't really matter. There aren't set goals or targets like most games.

TSO, however, is designed as a game where you almost have no choice but to work with others if you want to ever achieve anything - and by restricting its main playerbase to just 3 out of the 24 world time zones is, frankly, bizarre.

I just hope that they learn from their past mistakes with TSO and don't repeat it for "EA Land" with just a US only release.

Oh, I said move when my city moves. However I'm with you Gracie. If I have available slots, I'll probably create in EAland and welcome my old sims into the new city when they get there.

I'm kinda tired of sitting around in my old city 'anticipating'. I wanna be there and be doing stuff already. lol

once again another great promotion by aj for his other facinations. Maybe the reason they never released the game in europe is because there are 4 timezones in the US and that's not including Hawaii.

since you seem to enjoy your other two games some much and they treat you so much better, why not just stick with them. Or is it really that much fun for you to come here and trash this game every chance you get? Yes you are entitled to your opinion, but we've all heard your same opinion over and over and prob know it by heart.

by the way aj you haven't brought up those wicked botters lately. have those evil doers been vanquished to the recycle bin?

so in closing ..... come up with something new to say. your prattle is really old and even the pet food industry doesn't want the horse anymore, due to it being over whipped.

As long as I have an active paid TSO account, I have every right to post here, whether you happen to like it or not. You can put me on "ignore" if you wish.

Perhaps you don't understand that it's because I care that I am trying to help EA not to make the same mistakes that they have in the past. There aren't that many of us "old timers" still around here or at EA, in case you hadn't noticed.

So I forgot one time zone... big deal... doesn't hurt to remind EA of something that many people here need reminding of as well - there's a big world beyond the east and west coast that has so much to offer, and ignore it at your peril, whether in personal or business affairs. The US economy as a whole can't survive without trade to and from the rest of the world, so why shouldn't TSO be the same?

The problem was the game wasn't ready for release anywhere, not that it wasn't released worldwide. All a worldwide release would have given EA was a worldwide flop instead of a US flop.

  24. I've heard gamers in some of my other 'circles' say that Second Life's ranks are dropping fairly quickly.

I also understand by first hand knowledge that their customer service and problem solving SUCKS just as bad as EA's used to. Also, SL does not support windows Vista.

Looking at what EAland is going to offer and what Secondlife offers, I do believe the scales are tipping back towards EA.

As for International releases, I can see EA possibly branching out in the future for something like that. But that would probably be a 'future' endeavor.

My personal experience is that numbers online, and signups, are still going up... not long ago was a record of 50,000 online simultaneous users, last night I saw 57,000+ online.

Customer service does admittedly leave a little to be desired at times - but then again, you gets what you pay for. As I own land, I have a 'premium' account ($9.95 a month plus land fees) which allows me access to live support, which generally solves 95% of my problems very quickly - free accounts can only email help requests, many people seem to have an aversion to actually contributing towards the costs of their entertainment . There are also a number of in-world live help groups that residents have created which can solve many other issues (I joined them to give help as well as get help).

SL may not 'officially support' Windows Vista - but I am one of many users running SL on Vista with no problems. The bigger problem is graphics cards drivers not being updated for Vista, which is very demanding and needs a good card - that isn't Linden Lab's fault, really, any more than it is EA's fault that people here have old cards that don't work well with the upgraded graphics any more.

Please stay on topic, which is *not* about European release or AJ, but about the poll questions.

If anyone wishes to continue the discussion about a wider distribution of the game, please start a seperate thread for it.

    Thank you. [IMG]

  29. There's something about the poll that I find confusing (no jokes please lol...). Our choices are:

Create a new avatar as soon as it opens.
Move when Sim Move is allowed with all our stuff.
Move with my city (and lot) when it merges.
Several or all of the above....on different avatars and/or accounts.
Leaving the game....not planning to move to EA Land.
    Undecided.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I assumed that with the launch of EALand, our existing sims and properties would be automatically transferred and merged into this new game, and there would be no need to create new sims or move into it... [IMG]

  30. Guest

    Guest Guest

Yes it is automatic that your avatars will move with the city that they are in, when the city is merged. That will be in stages, one or two cities at a time.

When EA Land first opens, however, anyone, will be able to create new avatars, immediately, if we choose to do so.

They will also offer a more regular Sim Move, of avatar, and inventory, but no property.

So that is what the poll is asking.....if you are patient and going to wait or want to be among the first in the door. [IMG]

  31. Alrighty then - thank, Gilly [IMG]

I voted to move with my city (and lot) when it merges. They will have to drag my sim kicking and screaming. I have never liked the idea of merging. My city will not be the same after the merge. I've said it before and it still holds true....it's like the goverment irl telling me that I live in a small town, therefore I will be forced to pick up all my belongings and move to a bigger city...NYC or LA. And now you aren't even allowed to take any money with you!

I apologize. My intention was not to imply that any city (rl or sim life) was bad. It's just that some cities aren't right for everyone.

hehe no I was kidding Fire, I'm sorry if I came off defensive.

but it really isn't so bad [IMG]

But on a serious note, how do you think your city will be compromised by this merge? Is it the chance of a influx of other "tourists"?

I mean I might be wrong, b/c I get most of my information by scan reading ( since there is so much to intake) but I was under the impression that our maps would be merged... our current cities would be in tact, but your sim would not be limited to hanging out in that city only, you could map view to others?
If I'm wrong someone correct me pls ? [IMG]

  37. Guest

Ew, well maybe it'll be easy for them to leave when they don't have to go through the whole sim move process, maybe they just want their properties move and they will acclimate to another area of the map when they get there.

    Mafias are lame.

But they come and go as it is.
