Should EM have more power to stop abusive ediots at events..
Just readin about the problem EM Seppo and Godiva had on Baja makes me think yes..

Some people like the events for the story and a chance at a drop..
Alot more show up just for drops and to greif..

GL is a great exsample of dorks causing nothing but crap..with none stop spell casting and spamming..
Too standing on the EM trying to talk..even after asking 5 times plus to get back..

I think EM should have the power to put said person in jail..or have a GM ready at any time to do it..
And if you dont think thats wise then simple other way is to have no drops at all.

See how many people show up..let it be told in advi e that no more drops ..
They did post that a few times, and less people showed up..wasent surprised one bit..

And EM are usealy sent to a shard that is not the one they play..
So there is no playing favourite to people..

100% NO. Some EM's are already doing things they should not for friends. This would only cause more trouble. At events if your bothered either leave or page. Only 2 choices and you know leaving is the only choice since GM's don't exist in game.

EMs should have power to make actions against players reported by other players for example 5 or more times during last 10 minutes.

You guys still crying about taht favorite thing? I hear that said day in and day out, after EM events, but I have yet to see any proof of it. And any of us over 20 knows that if there was something hinky going on, someone woulda done had to talk about it...if they dont get recognition for beating the system, then its a hollow victory.
I would sign off on letting the EMs have more power, for sure! Or, like was mentioned, have a GM floating whose sole responsibility is to be on call for an EM when needed. And let the EMs find unique ways to handle situations. Here's a semi-fictional story for ya, that demonstrates...

A pvp event. Last man standing. Rules were laid out ahead of time, fight till theres only one left. Seems to me like the title shoulda been kinda self-explanatory, but sometimes ya gotta go that extra mile ;)
Of all the people there in attendance, one guild worked together to eliminate everyone else. Then this guild (4-6 peeps) declined to fight each other. When told they had to, they said no, they would NOT fight each other. See, here's the going the extra mile part. A "guild" or "alliance" winning is called "capture the flag" Last man standing, is singular, refers to one :p
So if this were to arise, the EMs could, say, spawn a dozen Crimson Dragons right on top of em? And then declare the dragons the winners and call it a night. : snickers:

At events, when the attention seeking ADD peeps start up, thats what they should do, spawn a super earth ele or demon right on top of em, and when the job is done, dispel it. Sounds simple enough to me.

    imho

EM's should have the ability to squelch players, at times when players are over-riding plot lines etc. Not put them in jail, just make it to where nothing they say, nor any spell they cast can be seen.

I do agree that griefing at events is a big turn off and caused problems on many occasions. This is not a new issue. If the EMs have a conection to the GM channel they can call in one for assistance, I do not know if this is so like counselors did, but it would go along way to help without giving more powers. GM presence when needed would be a great idea for the events.

Now about that issue of EM favoritism... yes and no... one EM I know of who was a old player quit after a guild made major complaint to the Dev about his being in chat with his friends... he later quit not only the EM group but UO as well. Was he giving info... NO he was an honest EM. But I can understand how it would look unless you were in the chat room too. BUT this raises a fact we all forget..EMs are players too. It is bound to come up and happen no matter how hard you try to avoid it that you will be accused of favoritism. I dont doubt it happens as I know for a fact it does. But dont color all EMs with the same pen....

Given the degree to which we tend to hear, ad nauseam, on these boards about any pretense to EM corruption or favoritism, I am confident that any abuse of new powers will be bantered about within mere seconds of their occurring.

In fact we'll hear about a dozen fake accusations of such favoritism or abuse before we'll hear any with any real validity. And that's being too kind assuming that we'll hear about any with any real validity, whatsoever.

And, in the meanwhile, while we are subjected to (mostly) bull**** fears of favoritism, griefer guilds will continue to grief events and make things miserable for those who are at the events for the events.

    Something must surely be done.

Institute some kinda restraining order setup, EM gives a menu one click, targets a player, and BOOM!! He can't come within two screens of the EM.

Yes, EMs need squelch power and it's silly that they don't have it.

    Yes squelch would be nice.
To hear some players start pancakes to the EM to shout up and get on with killing.

Or saying there talking to much and weres the drops?
    Thats the problem..
This rare crap has gotten out of hand..
Just look at Baja now with the tickets for armor..

Even with the vendor type set up they have to give out items..
People still complain they were afk and can the EM open the gate again?

Sorry if your afk and missed the boat..
There was a great story arc going on on GL last few weeks..
But alot got ruined by people spamming and pancakes no drops and to much talking..

Its to the point were the EM has to say the story twice..in open chat and EM event chat..
Because of ediots blocking the chat..

I havent heard or seen Messana around in awhile, so not sure what her point of view is here.
Its like the spy missions going on...there are people with mutlty accounts leaving chars in the hall to say they been there for every event to get the boots.
And that char will still be there when you get back at end of event..

But hey if there willing to pay for extra account..then great..UO can use the extra income..
But it shows you the extant some players will goto for the chance of rare items to sell..

And what i wanted to know was should EM have more power to squelch or jail players causing problems..nothing more

It kinda makes me laugh. The last few events we've had on Siege everyone was well behaved. Admittedly most of the PvPers and PKs had left Siege but those who remained were in their full right to slaughter us lol.

Its just weird how our events were quiet (i can only speak for recent EM events), yet all the griefing goes on other shards. Obviously thats due to the facet and rules of combat there.

In fact, relating to a few other shard events I've been to, I can say that at an event on Siege by EM Drosselmeyer you would have never seen a crowd more adoring and loving of an EM.

But alas Siege EM events have long since disappeared in the mist. Again we are victim of empty promises from the powers that be...

    Really simple answer here.

    End. The. Drops.

    No drops, bye bye griefers...eventually.

We all know the only reason a vast majority of players show up is in the hope of scoring phat lewtz to sell for 100+ mil to some stupidly rich person. These would be the ones who constantly whine about items when there isn't one, or when they didn't get one, and then *****, moan, and eventually start insulting the EM(s) and/or the event itself.

This pretty much takes anyone else present, who is there for the story, out of the narrative. Griefing at its best.

Now, I know that there are people who view the items as they were intended: as mementos. I enjoy having fun little reminders of events, but I'm sick of them ruining the fun.

End the items and the grief quotient will drop.

If items must be kept, dispense them with clickies available to all who participated. This may require better ways of determining participation...

Certain guilds, and certain players, simply have griefing as their project, and I do not think ending the drops will end the griefing.

I will admit that I like money and the drops make me money, and have never seen the EM drops as mementos (at least not solely as that).

I'll also continue to show up, avidly, if there are no drops.

But to paint the griefing problem as though it had a simple solution is, I argue, to misunderstand it.

How long would we have people who show up and grief to complain about the lack of items? Months? Years?

The problem would considerably lesson, there is no way you can deny this.

We both know the main reason that a certain guild on GL even bothers to come to events is the items. General griefing has become their secondary pursuit.

Very publicly (i.e. posting on the Herald and in-game EM announcements) ending the drops doesn't leave much room for random "I didn't know" whining. Will they whine? Of course. Eventually, however, they will stop - and probably stop coming to events.

Now, this isn't to say that EMs don't need the power to squelch. In fact, I've said they do for over two years now. They also should have a GM available to cart overactive hooligans off to a time-out. This should have been standard practice since day one, as it is well passed time that Mythic upheld their end of the ToS.

When the EM event system started back up...remember it was closed because of the nature of event drops and the way events were attended by just a select few .....iam pretty sure the new events were going to have items drops of no value....kinda guess this was BS...as items sell for billions and the EMs simply keep churning them out day by day

stop the drops....and just let the players enjoy the ride of the event....maybe just have clickies so peeps can have a token of doing it.....but make it like crafted items...nothing with value or properties....

I think there should be a type of area-of-squelch around the EM that they can enable/disable and alter the AOE for it. That alone could solve a lot of problems.

That actually happened? How did the EM resolve it? Unless I misunderstood your post and the EM actually did spawn dragons above them, hehe.

While I dislike disputing with Uriah, his example isn't very good.

The problem with the case he cited was that the people were in guild/faction together. The game places substantial limitations on those players templates. If they had fought in a free for all style at the end, you'd have 4-5 of those guys unable to kill each other for lack of ability to utilize the majority of offensive powers in their template. In addition some of their defensive spells would have HELPED people the rules said they should fight.

It wasn't as well planned as the EMs could have made it.

I have to agree with Martyna...

Stop giving stuff out... Period. Or... say something politely 2 or 3 times... then if they don't quit whatever they are doing to grief the event... end the event. Just say "Ok... we tried it my way... you decided that you didn't want to play by the rules... So we'll try again next week..."

If there is supposed to be some sort of drop that week... or clicky... then too bad... they miss out... Eventually they WILL take the hint.

I know about 20 or more people who simply quit attending the events because they couldn't ever see wtf was going on. Too many spellcasters spamming spells... too many idiots having to constantly cast RC's or EV's... sometimes I swear there are more summons at the events that people. Between that and the dolts who can't seem to understand the concept of please stand back 3 tiles... and the tamer jerk-offs who have to stand RIGHT on top of the EM with a dragon constantly flapity flaping it's freaking wings... it's a wonder anyone knows anything that's happening.

I've given my suggestions before... and quite frankly I still think that there should be a GM assigned to each EM event... And if folk are asked to do something and don't comply they should be banned for the evening. Plain and simple... Top that off with the 3 strikes and your out policy and we'd have order in no time...

You know you can want and desire the drop and if that's all you come there for then fine... so be it... stand back wait for the spawn and attack it just like everyone else... just don't have to be a total freaking jerk-off about it... and mouth off... say nasty crap like "stf up and just get on with it..... stop all this talking talking crap and give me an item... When are we getting something... I'm bored..... etc, etc etc..."

The rest of us go to the EM events to participate and have fun in the adventure... many of us enjoy and appreciate the time and effort the EM's put into the story... and we like to solve the puzzles and riddles and we keep up with the plot lines and enjoy them... I like the stuff too as a keepsake from the event. But if folk had some R.E.S.P.E.C.T. for the EM's and other players it would certainly help.

In my opinion respect for other players should be ENFORCED. Being rude and disrespectful in Fel fine... But at an EM event that is meant to be enjoyed by ALL players being disrespectful and obnoxious should NOT be allowed and rules should be ENFORCED.

Perhaps Offenders should be Telestormed into the swamps in the Weld... be a long walk back out before they could start causing more grief.

if they couldnt kill greens then they lack skill. Was their only attacks EQ/Nether cyclone/Hailstorm/explode pots? Cleansing winds wouldnt have helped thier guildies unless they were all partied right? So no excuse for them not to finish the event.
The idea of giving EMs the power to kill might lead to corrupt EMs abusing it. Give them a GM to do it for them would be the better way though. at least in the example he gave.
Squelch would go a good distance in stopping some of the loudmouth item starved kiddies.

Canceling the event would not work, because thats what some greifers want..
Lets just screw it up for everyone..

The best action i seen a DEV take not EM...i think it was..
The end of Magincia arc were the golems and bane were..

There were items needed to be added to a alter that would restore Magincia to new.
Well the DEV/EM asked the ediots to move and get of the pad of the alter..they did not listen.
So he basicly said screw and activated the alter killing all the jerks on or near it..thats what i like to see happen more often.

As for why they stand so closse to the EM at time, is to try and grab the item the EM trys to put down..

Like on GL last week, building the golem, so many dips were ontop hoping to grab the parts they were trying to put down.

Ah well , only thing one can hope for is time and see what happens..
Like Messana said it was a mistake for the armor deed drop on Baja.
It happens ,now of people would turn them in to destroy is unlikely..

See what happens Tues. night at the spy mission...

If your gonna cry about something get your facts right, drop was on origin not Baja. Just another example of someone crying about something and using "facts" someone else stated without doing the leg work to confirm anything that is being said.

    Just sayin

Unfortunately with the griefer mindset this will only encourage them to continue this type of deviant behavior. They will basically think to themselves "well I would not have gotten anything anyways so this way no one will get anything"
