unfortunately the people who spam profanity are only slightly worse than the people spamming STFU and such...

true... but one is the real problem... the other is just a symptom of the real problem. Solve the problem and the symptoms tend to go away...

Agreed. But I fear that would lead to complaints about the EMs abusing that power or use ing unjustly even when they clearly aren't.

Send GMs to back them up at an event or two. Create a credible deterrent.

I agree with the above, even just a time out would work.. (Jail them) .. but GM support would be great.

Devs, implement a system where the EMs can target a trouble maker. After targeting, that trouble maker will hue a different color to everyone. Then players can click that player, open a menu, and vote to squelch them. If they get enough squelched votes from the community, they are squelched for 24 hours. That's my suggestion. The EMs will then have power to do something, but the ultimate decision is in the hands of the community.

Horrible idea. Never leave any power like that up to players. They would almost always opt for the worst punishment justified or not.

Worst punishment? There is only one punishment and that's squelching. The EMs choose the trouble maker so players would have no power unless the EM finds someone disruptive.

Or just make it so the disruptive player gets highlighted by the EM and now the other players can choose to squelch him and the action is made and only effecting that individual player.

So it is not a vote..

Let me re-phrase that. They would abuse it. the moment anyone is hued in this the people around would instantly put them into 24 hour squelch regardless.

Tonight's event on Pacific was absolutely terrible.

I find it hard to believe that such behavior is allowed to take place in the game. Something definitely needs to be done about it.

To the UO powers that be... will you please explain why you think we have to put up with such as that in game? This issue really needs to be addressed.

Players who are as disruptive and disrespectful as those players were tonight, need to be silenced.

Typically a person so hued would deserve it for being a griefer. The players would, however, be responsible so the griefer can complain all he or she likes. Now if an EM were truly abusing their power, then the community might step in and choose not to squelch a player.

Let's take this a step further. Suppose someone is being disruptive by complaining about wanting items from the event. Many might be annoyed by this while others might agree with this sentiment and so not squelch them, so thereby allow this player to continue to disruptively voice an opinion they want heard. Then it becomes a matter of debate for the community.

    ROTFLMAO!!! Hello Pot, meet Kettle!!!

This is from the man who STOLE a event item from Legends EM and sold it for 50 Million Gold! Whose guild has repeatedly disrupted Legends EM events. I guess its true what they say: "it takes one to know one"

If it were up to me Laddie, the likes of you and others who disrupt EM Events and/or the game wide events would be put into stocks! They would be located in Nujelm in that huge town square. There would be special NPC vendors that sell rotten fruit and veggies to throw at the locked up offenders! There would be a special gate at the EM hall so you could go over taunt and throw the rotten produce at them.

My hope is I get to throw the first "pitch"...or perhaps I should leave that for EM Helios?!

One day I hope Mesanna gets you my pretty and your little Guild too!

Players don't need to have a vote or a say in who gets muted. Rules need to be made and the EMs need to be trained in what is allowed and what is not.
When something comes up that is not allowed, they need to have the authority and ability to mute the players who are doing things that are against the rules.

The reason I suggested voting is a sort of checks and balances to the system. It's not just the EMs, but also the players who are taking responsibility for silencing a griefer.

The responsibility belongs with UO (or EA/Mythc, however it should be said). If the players are involved in making decisions on who can be how bad and for what reasons, there would always be someone trying to challenge the players and push the limits, etc.

If the rules are set by EA and the rules are clearly made known to the players, and if action is consistently taken against anyone who goes beyond those boundaries, things would improve greatly.

If players are not allowed to act like those did tonight, then they won't do it. They won't even mess with it. The fun of being so bad won't be an issue, in game, anymore.

I am getting tired. I hope this is making sense. If not, I will try to rephrase it, after getting some rest.

Helios was more than capable of preventing himself from being robbed. He respects thieves and thieves respect him. The event wasn't disrupted. Helios was robbed and the thief escaped.

Once upon a time I played a game that had a huge player-base. That game had carefully chosen players who were given the title of player moderator. Player mods were given the power to mute players who were breaking certain rules.

The mutes we gave lasted 48 hours. That time frame seemed to be effective. It gave the player time to think about what they had done and to realize they didn't like not being able to communicate in game.

The company had (has, they are still up and running) a good system in place, which protects not only the players, but the player mods and the company, too.

When a player mods mutes someone, the last minute of speech of both the player and the player mod are sent to the company's game moderators (employees). This information is reviewed, to make sure there was valid reason for the mute. If the player mod muted the player for the proper reasons, the 48 hour mute stands. If the player mod was in error, the mute is lifted.

Surely UO could have something along those lines put in place for the EMs to utilize. It would make a huge difference, if they had the ability to take care of those bad situations.

Okay the idea takes care of the spamming/verbal event greifer, but what about the physical disruptors like we have on Legends? We have a freaking GUILD of them. To give you an idea of what I mean by physical I will give you some examples.

Okay quite a few months back EM Helios had a Greater Dragon Tournament. Well this guild showed up making trouble. Helios was keeping them in line until he lost conn. When he lost conn this guild seized the opportunity and began pking everyone in sight. When Helios was able to re-connect it was utter chaos! So he started booting the offending guild. Well outside the battle arena area where he booted the offenders was parked a bunch of rival faction pks who where picking them off as fast as Helios could boot em.
One member of this guild raised such a fuss Helios had to stop the event deal to deal with this person who cussed poor Helios a blue streak. Helios then summoned Lady Mesanna who dealt with said troublemaker.

Fast forward to the Jhelom Pit Fights event same guild another verse could get better but it just gets worse. Okay we formed teams of 1 to 4 people, you roll to see which class of monster and how many you would get. The rules were no outside help, healing or the like from the spectators, you cannot leave the arena once your team starts fighting its monster, and nobody can enter the pit floor except the team called and the EMs. they tried to get rival faction guilds disqualified. They were healing and rezzing the team from their guild. They just basically disrupted the event anyway they could.

Thanks to these turkeys hardly anyone wants to go to events held in the fel battle arena. Events like Battle Chicken Lizard tournies and dragon tournies.

What do you do with people like that?

Yeah and I guess you and your "Boys" are innocent of the Dragon Tourny incident, and the Jhelom Pit Fight incident too. LMAO ya'll are innocent just like all the skels. sitting in prisons. You ask any con and he'll say he's innocent. Well at least you are true to form too bad they can't lock you and your "boys" in Yew Prison then at least you'd be where ya'll truely belong!

How was a monster being guard whacked the fault of contestants in a contest. Someone teleported NEAR the event and a monster was guard whacked. The EM took the rash decision to end our round and say we won. gave us rewards without the experience of the event we had waited hours to participate in.

The event was poorly run and poorly thought out.

As for the greater dragon tournament. You seem to think every pvp guild is the same group. L*D spectators were booted from the house by the EM or someone he had recklessly friended to the house and trapped in an x field in a place where you can't teleport. This was AFTER he had simply skipped over our 2 contestants because he forgot we were entered.

A fuss was raised, and rightly so. Helios had to send a formal apology letter for his behavior that night.

Members of the current L*D have in the past enforced the rules at pvp events on legends and made it possible for events to occur.

You may choose to spin what you see at events Jirel, but at the end of the day, much of the issues at events are not the players, or even the lack of EM power but the inability of the EMs to understand even the simplest of game mechanics.

Want to know why seers were so successful? It wasn't their powers, it was how they set up events to begin with.

As for felucca events. It's our shard. We own felucca there. If folks choose to try and bad mouth us from trammel on a regular basis, they can expect their travels to felucca to be gray and drab.

Really? ... wasn't about the event (online funeral) per say, it was about people being allowed to, and get away with, what was being said.

In any of game, in which we pay money to play, these people would have been dealt with appropriately from the beginning.

Moderation. It seems to work fairly damn well on these forums.

He DID NOT forget "your boys" had entered. You and "Your Boys" showed up an HOUR late and we'd already started round two! You and "Your Boys" started whining, bitchin, and moanin' when that didn't work ya'll disrupted the the event! Gee why don't we bring in Alice Wonderland, Sis Draper(aka Devilsown) and the other 12-14 people that were in attendance. FYI anyone competeing in the Event is friended to the Arena(house). Considering the language you used on Helios, the only thing he should have sent you was a RIGHT HOOK! Why don't you forward the "SO CALLED" letter with headers to me and we'll see who's lyin and who ain't!

Nothing. Let them stay where they are and let them do their thing.

Any time an EM takes an event to Fel, they should know to expect problems. Reds are going to attack, given half a chance, because that's what they do. That's what they are in Fel for. They enjoy fighting other players. To expect them to behave any other way, in the area they have been given to act that way, is not wise thinking.

You have probably heard the expression, "Letting the fox guard the hen house." If you do that, it is reasonable to expect that you will be one or more chickens low, when the fox's shift is over.

Taking an event to Fel is like putting chickens in the fox house. The foxes will be having poultry for dinner.

For player dueling and animal competition there needs to be an arena in Tram, which only has the Fel rules on the floor of the arena. I would think there are plenty of Tram only players who would enjoy competing. I doubt many of them would enjoy having to watch their back while in or near the arena. Is there something like that in the game? Pardon my ignorance on that issue. I have heard something about an arena, but I haven't sought out any details on it.

I understand the Dev team is working on them but they are not ready yet. The battle arena on Legends is in strange location you have to go through EMs gates to get to and from it. It has fel rules set. I think it maybe under fel?

Actually, we were the first two people there. As for the letter, it would neither be polite nor even acceptable to send that out for the sole purpose of humiliating an EM. You say we were disrupting the event. There were only 2 of us there.... you assume that every pvp guild is the same people. This is incorrect and reflects the lack of knowledge you have about things before spouting off.

Helios screwed up pretty bad. the behavior of the LGC guild however was typical of their guild.

    I agree here.

Giving more power could lead to more problems and complaints.

What the Event Moderators could and I think should do is run a video of the Event run by them and submit it to some Mythic supervisor who will then take whatever needed action against those accounts that broke any rule. Temporary bans, perma bans whatever is applicable.

Might not help a specific Event but will possibly help future Events sending a message to players to behave or there will be consequences.

Just the way I think it should be handled.

At Lord Blackthorn's funeral, my character was jailed very quickly for snooping in other players' packs. No gm warning, no gm appearance, just jailed for a few minutes and then transported back to the funeral. Maybe something like that would work.
I suppose it wasn't the snooping that was the problem, but the reaction of a hysterical crowd who were all screaming for me to be jailed. My disappearance placated the angry host.

    That sounds a reasonable solution.

My personal, and probably impractical, suggestion would be to telestorm them to a no-recall zone and make them walk home :D

I have to ask what was actually said during the funeral. Were they being critical of the queen or just talking smack? Some(who actually pay attention) were happy to witness Dawn`s death.

Whatever your smoking, il take two.

My God. It's like you're all typing with your tongues, or worse.

And the only way to clean up events in UO is to remove all of the UO players. There are several systems at play here: the EMs, the GMs (or lack thereof), the technical limitations, and the player population. These problems are endemic to one of these systems, and it isn't any of the first three on that list.

EM events aren't "your" anything. They are put out for all people to enjoy and have the ability to participate in. It is unfortunate that the *big kids* can't play nice with sharp objects in the sand box's fel side...in the long run it only leads to less events there in the future for shards that abuse the privilege. (unfortunately attitudes such as yours only further justify the need for more oversight in one sense or another) :(

Anyway, back to the notion at hand. I do not agree with voting by the player base when more power is needed. I do think another party should be considered to remove the unruly players however. The EM did his best to hold the player accountable, and with any luck the two will be removed as a more permanent solution.

What I hope everyone will consider in this issue is that our EMs are here to provide content...they are story tellers and performers...not GMs.

The unruly players wouldn't have to be removed. If they are silenced, the problem is stopped, in an instant.

I don't think anyone is blaming the EMs for problems such as this. It is clear they don't have authority to deal with these annoying situations. I think they should be given that authority and ability though.

It is wrong that the EMs are allowed to be disrespected by asinine players.

I have been to too many events that have been ruined by disruptive players on my home shard. The EMs, because they do not have the power to handle these players, does one of three things. Ignore them and hope they go away, ask them to stop and if they do not summon Mesanna, or make a joke out of said player. None of these actions are satisfactory in my eyes because it shows the lack of power our EMs has to handle these situations.

These disruptive players are taking away from the enjoyment of the event for the other players who did come to take part in the event. I for one do not buy into the logic that many of these troublesome players use for their behavior. (ex: I am a paying customer so I should be able to do anything I want in game. This RP event is stupid hey EM make me something to kill, and make it drop me uber loot too. I am RPing a jerk so that is why I am interrupting the event. ) If the EM is running a event that you are not enjoying or lacking in the combat you want then leave, do not go out of your way to ruin it for others. Like you they are paying customers and the event may be the part of UO they enjoy the most. I am sure one of the next events this EM runs will more to your liking. So why try and ruin it for others and aggravate the EM at the same time.

Do you have any idea how many hours our EMs put in preparing these events for the players? They do not just show up at the appointed time and wing it through the event. They have spent countless hours doing an outline of the event, making special arrangements with Mesanna for the event and practicing the speeches given during the event. They throw their heart and soul into these events for the players to take part in and enjoy. Just so that you can show up and run around nude while spamming all over the screen because it’s your right as a paying customer to do that. It is no wonder so many EMs who started out with many fun ideas for their new shard end up quitting out of frustration.

Should the EMs be able to squelch these disruptive players? Yes they should because even though these players have rights they do not have the right to ruin events for other players. If I was in charge of the program I would of gave the EMs the power to send troublesome players to jail for the entire time the event is going on. I was also make it so that character was unable to log out till the event was over too. This would keep the player from character hopping to try and return to the event. Now some of you are going to say that is giving the EMs to much power and they will jail people they dislike who did nothing wrong to prevent them from taking part in the event. There by preventing the jailed player from getting the special uber loot at the event. So to make sure no Ems is abusing their powers each jailing will be reviewed by Mesanna or a GM within 3 days after the event. If the EM has been found to be showing favoritism he will lose his position. That is how I would handle it. Be glad I do not work on the game.

The EM's do a service to the community and I feel it is extremely rude and downright uncalled for when folk feel the need to ruin the event by acting out like a bunch of little kids. I often make the comment that "kindergarten" has let out.

However it's my belief that large scale events such as this should be policed by GM's who DO have the power to ban accounts and remove troublemakers.

Even if it's just occasionally I think it would get the message across that these events are not to be disrupted by unruly Trolls.

It's one thing to RP being a jerk it's another thing to ruin a public event for everyone else and just be a jerkoff. Anyone can act like a troll... but events such as these are not the time to be doing that.

To me this is one more reason why UO will never be popular again. Too many things go unpunished. And sadly I know a few who will no longer attend EM events because of the inability of EA to control the bozo's. It's nothing on the EM's certainly they are subject to more BS than anyone else at the Events. How many times I hear ..... "When are we getting something!" "I didn't get a _________. I want a ________. Give me your ________." Like a bunch of whining kids at a candy shop.

And top that off with other things said after the EM's take hours and hours out of their day and playtime to build an event they have to put up with crap like: "This sucks.... This event is stupid... That's BS... OMG this is so stupid... Why can't you _________." It's sick and it's sad. They put a lot of time into the events and in my opinion if your not having fun you know how to leave. I hate it when folk stand around and heckle the EM's and act like total jerks when if they aren't having fun they could do us all a favor and LEAVE.

And finally if you are just coming to "Get stuff".... then by all means, shut up and just play along... and don't gripe if you don't get something each and every freaking time. Get a life.

Look around you. In real life we have the same problem. If real life rules and etc. can't take care of it, then rules in a game surely can't.

The only solution that I and many like me have found to avoid the stress and despair of group interaction with predictable result is to become a loner. We lose big time on the one hand, but don't have to deal with the heartache, hurt and such that the group invariably does.

I wish that the devs would realize that our "group" of loners is a big one, and is every bit as much a valid group for support and recognition as guilds, rpgroups, and circles of friends.

We are not antisocial, just pragmatists who choose a different path. As a loner we can have intense friendships and relationships with others of our kind. We don't end up here, though, expressing valid frustration with the human condition.
