Essence manufacturing

Discussion in 'UO Craftsman' started by Kallie Pigeon, Mar 1, 2010.

  1. So we know they nerfed relic making but is there a way to make enchanted essence? I used to have a huge pile of them till I used them to get my 120 scroll and now as I try to enhance stuff I run through it faster than I gather stuff that unravels into essence. So I ask the collective wisdom of this forum for any secret formulas you may use. Is it just me or has it become more difficult to get essence?

As with residue, I've found the easiest way is to just farm items and unravel - the key is what you are farming. First and foremost, when I am intentionally after large amounts of essences, the only things I loot are jewelry items with 3 or more properties (excepting an exceptional piece of armor or weapon, of course)

Of equal importance is which mobs you are hunting. Tsuki wolves tend to do well with higher intensity jewelry, and I usually end up running about a 9 to 1 (residue to essence) ratio. Ogre Lords and Titans deliver about the same. Demons have actually been somewhat worse than that (at about 11-12 to 1). Dragons tend to run about 8 to 1. I don't usually go any bigger than that, as the time invested isn't worth the return. (I tend to hunt things that offer multiple resources - either gold/jewelry, hides/jewelry/gold, etc - that go down relatively quickly to a pure mage type)

The single best source I have found, for ease of killing and rate/ratio of return, though, has been the vorpal bunny... seriously. It's only worth doing if you have an excess of thorns, though, and I grow anywhere between 100 and 150 BG Snake plants at a time, constantly... more than a few to burn :)

  3. I am still in need of residue so maybe I should just concentrate on getting to 120 imbuing before I start imbuing stuff. I just started gardening yesterday to be exact. I haven't checked my plants yet. I hope it's not too much of a time consumer but I want to get seeds of renewal and I might as well try for some of the other cool things you can grow. I do several things that gain me essences but I am still working on getting 10,000 loyalty points and collecting whatever imbuing and other ingredients I can while doing so. I am pretty sure I can burn a bronze hammer and get only essence from unraveling that but I want to save them for other stuff. Thanks for the response. I will try the vorpal bunnies I have a few thorns somewhere.

If you have a lot of bloodwood boards[logs],
Enchanted Essence can be obtained by unravelling weapon made from bloodwood.
However, it is necessary to satisfy the following requirements.

    - Gargoyle only
    - Queen's soulforge only
    - durability is more than 50.

bloodwood weapon adds HP regeneration 2 [100%] and lifeleech 8 intensity [32%]
    unravelling intensity = 1.15*(100+32)+20+30=201>=200

  5. Cool well I may have to change races to do that but need about 3000 more points to the queens forge. If I change races I'll need a new suit of armor also Hmmm.... have to think about that I have some bloodwood. You know I just had a thought mybe my problems are because I have a forge in my house and I should still be going to the public forge to unravel stuff. (DUH)

When Queen'S Soulforge is used for Imbuing, loyality is necessary.
However, for Unravelling, loyality isn't necessary.

Is it normal for bokutoes to never have durability over 50??? I made 12 bokutoes out of bloodwood,, 9 exceptional while having gm arms lore, 3 exceptional without armslore on guy,, ALL 12 swords had exactly the same 48 durability????

tried gnarled staff and out of 8 TWO !!!! were over 50 durability(57 & 61) rest were 31,39,40,41,48,31,,etc but at least not all the SAME???

Just a victim of the mean ole RNG or this standard?

Some crafted items always have the same durability.

    Unravel unravel unravel

I think it's silly to craft to unravel for essence

Just take your little newbie out there and start killin' crap. It helps if you have the copper_enhanced and that other mod which lets you click on an item and it tells you its intensity.

I save anything which is roughly 213 intensity or above, because at my skill level (78.x) that seems the lowest I may get a skill gain from unraveling.

On a side note while we're talking wood (not just in the morning mind you!)

Is Black Staff a wood item? Is it created by fletching or carpentry? It makes a nice mid level whirlwind weapon.

    Thanks

  11. What is copper_enhanced? What is that mod? I have heard of this before what the heck are you talking about?

Neither - you can't craft a black staff. Otherwise, it would fall into carpentry, along with the other staves.

Copper Enhanced is a custom UI enhancement for the SA client.

What is the lowest runic hammer (or sewing/fletching kit) which, crafting with high end material (say valorite or frostwood or barbed leather) breaks the 451 barrier and yields a relic ?

Yes, best way for essance seems bloodwood bows made EX.

7 Bloodwood per bow yeilds, on average - 1 Essance and 1-1.5 residue

I do them in sets of 35 bows and get around 35 Essence and 35-50 Residue per 245 boards.

Kallie and others- Your Imbuer should be Gargoyle and using the Queens forge. Too many bonuses are based on this. You are wasting your time and resources with a human an not using the forge.

The imbuing bonus alone for those 5th slot imbues and the saving of materials is worth it. Get a race change token for a mil and then imbue up some magery ring/brace and a stack of EV scrolls and go kill Toxic Sliths for 2-3 hours to get Loyalty and you are done for good. It does not decay.

  15. Ok Theo. I have the tokens and I allready have enough loyalty points to use the queens forge and do unravel there and inbue there (I train at home) but if I switch to gargoyle will I still have as much fun? Can I convert my current leather suit into somehting a gargoyle an use? I hear you can convert the jewelry but what about leather armor? Should I wait till 120 to switch?

Why do you need to convert your leather suit? Just imbue whatever you need.

The beauty of gargoyle armor is that 4 of the pieces are made from cloth so you don't even have to use leather to craft and can make cool reward cloth armor on the gargoyle.

What is it that you have on your existing armor that you can't imbue?

The downside is that you cannot ride a beetle as a gargoyle so its no fun if you have mining too.

  17. I guess I will wait till 120 because I will rapidly run out of essence imbuing stuff

I think it is a good idea to wait until 120 before race change. Before reach 120, refrain yourself from inbuing anything that needs essence or relic, unless you don't care about the cost.

Stay in human helps you lowering your training cost since you can imbue easier stuff (less resources) without gargoyle bonus to be in the 40-70% success range for optimum gain.

I reached 120 without using a single essence, just some Dull/shadow hammers, DC/gold ingots, residues and regular gems.
