Faction Change?

Discussion in 'UO Siege Perilous' started by imported_SavageSP, Dec 7, 2007.

  1. It would really be nice to be able to duel your alliance mates without losing all your lifeforce and punkte if you happen to have any of that.

I understand the other guilds in your Faction that ar'nt allied, but if its green it shouldnt count against you...... can anyone think of a reason this shouldnt be changed?

"can anyone think of a reason this shouldnt be changed?"

Some of what you get with life force shouldn't be allowed...monster ignore, blessed items for instance. As far as kill points, I never agreed with a system that counts kill points. People can abuse it by killing noob chars. It encourages rking. And even if these two points were addressed, kill points would still be no real indicator of the skill of the player.

  3. I use mine for evil dying armor, that way the nice stuff doesnt get worn by blue helpers in the faction battles, the gm gear who cares... but jewels and nice pieces....join factions or sell it back

Masu, that isn't what he asked. How about answering the question and not rattling off about everything BUT the topic he brought up?

  5. agreed hence why I dye stuff Ice blue.....

I can't think of any logical reason why it should remain. It certainly hinder's inter-guild/alliance sparing or practicing combo's, etc.

Further, there are flagging issues between guild/alliance mates that are pretty silly as well. Heat of battle shouldn't apply to guild/alliance mates.

  7. or healing reds...

  8. I think they should introduce a consensual dueling option for members of the same faction. It's the only viable option I see to allow this to occur, because allowing FFA alliance dueling also allows for treason without penalty.

That brings up another issue. Faction reds should appear ORANGE to other faction members. Otherwise, its difficult to tell when a red is in an opposing or even same faction, for that matter. They can appear red to everyone else, but all faction enemies should appear orange to each other... or at least allow us to change a setting so that is the case.

Definitely. While we're at it, I think they should extend the faction bases so non-faction members can't interfere with major battles. All housing in the immediate area should be relocated.

  11. Well that about sums it up, what do you think the chances are of us getting a publish dedicated to repairing the faction system prior to the next projected end of the world? [IMG]

I think there needs to be some consequence for killing faction mates.

Personally, I feel the faction system should be completely redone, and then everyone should have to choose a faction, at least on Siege Perilous anyway.

In this changed world where everyone is a member of a faction, the "consequence" for killing faction mates would be eventually becoming red, since the red-blue system would remain intact. In this world, everyone in an opposing faction would be orange and freely attackable, but everyone in your own faction (and any allied factions) would either be green (guild members/allies), blue, or red. If you murder members of your own alliance who are blue and continue to do so, you might eventually become red. In this world, you aren't forced into becoming red simply by dueling a buddy, since the "count" system remains in place and if you wish to have friendly duels with alliance mates, they can choose not to give you a murder count.

  14. I don't think you should be forced to join a faction. You should be allowed to be a brigand, bounty hunter, or pirate if you want to. I can't see any of those dedicating themselves to any faction for any reason.

Then perhaps they should add in more races and the races will be at war with each other and replace the faction system.

Anyhow, I still think people could RP any of those even in a faction. People find ways of RPing what they want to with and despite of how the game is setup. Heh. We had rp orcs even though there was no playable orc race:).

I completely agree...so why do we need to force them to play factions?

It would make Siege much more dangerous, riskier, and exciting place for one...and increase reliance on fellow players as people would band together to fend off enemy factions as there would be danger everywhere, both on the field because more people attacking others since there would be no consequences for killing enemy faction members, and in guard zones as everyone but fellow faction members and allies would be orange. It is certainly a better system than the blue-red + light faction system we have now.

I disagree. I agree with you that siege should be dangerous, risky, and exciting, but I don't believe forcing people into the faction system will achieve that goal. What will achieve that goal is dedicated attention to the mechanics of this shard by the development staff, which will in turn bring a lot more people, and thus make the shard what it was meant to be.

Siege was not meant to be a shard where anybody had to abide by a certain set of rules, it was meant to be a Free-for-all shard where you risked all. Chaos should rule here, and the only way to achieve that end is to get some developer attention and have them fix this broke ass system we have.

With this latest wave of selling/quitting that's going on, it just amazes me that you guys can basically sit around arguing what color the walls should be painted when the whole house is burning down around you.

Seriously, I think a much bigger problem that should get some serious discussion is what drastic measures could or should be taken to get more people to play here...OBVIOUSLY ROT needs to change, we all know that by now, but what else??

What is the most drastic thing do you think we can get away with doing to Siege that will encourage a massive influx of new players, without completely ruining the flavor of the shard...although at this point I think the flavor needs to change also, it's pretty obvious that stealth/tamer/dismount/gank is the flavor equivalent of "turd sandwich".

The house is already burned down. What needs to happen is the developers need to clear the rubble, lay a new foundation, and build a new house.

I suppose you're right, I guess that's why it irks me so much to see these guys argue about what color to paint the bathroom, when there are no plans in the works to even rebuild it.

"What is the most drastic thing do you think we can get away with doing to Siege that will encourage a massive influx of new players"

Making ROT take 3-4 weeks instead of 3-6+ months. This change tops all others in the amount of players it will encourage while not harming what Siege is and is supposed to be in any way. So long as it is properly advertised, we will see many players coming to Siege, and then a steady flow, until, perhaps one day, we have a very healthy population...and who knows, perhaps the healthiest of all shards.

Well I know on my part at least it's frustration with the poor efforts put forth by EA to maintain this game. I mean seriously, they could at least recognize that Siege is a special shard, and as such requires special accomodations.

    Example 1:

The Magincia Scenario. What the hell was this? It should've been a fiction driven scenario that went on for a couple months. It should've had some major names make appearances, some specialized quests associated with it, and advanced preparation to deal with the CoM base interference.

What did we get? A halloween event that was thrown together, ran for about a week, and ended with the destruction of the city. Somehow, I don't see how Halloween fits into Ultima lore.

    Example 2:

Remember the christmas snow? The snow that blocked ghosts from being able to depart the SL base? The snow that narrowed the SL staircase to one tile wide? I don't even know if those have been fixed yet, but they should've been addressed within a week of happening.

The reaction time by the dev team is completely unacceptable.

    Example 3: Archery

Archery at one time wasn't competitive in PvP, so a certain developer (forget which one, hanse maybe?) decided he was going to give it attention. A publish or two later, everybody was running around with stealth archers doing 100 point hits for insta-kills.

There is no moderation in anything they do. When they implement, they implement to the extreme and then nerf it six feet underground. This leads to more complaints, which in turn requires them to tweak other things, which break even more.

What this game needs is a long term plan, and dedicated attention to each and every playstyle at the same time. Seige needs at least one designer dedicated to it, and a few devs to implement the designers ideas. We simply cannot have the gush of garbage the regular shards have here.

We do not need expansions, we do not need more artifacts, and we do not need poorly planned events. We need a development team that is dedicated to bringing people to the game as well as creating a challenging gameplay environment.

What brings people to a game? Depth and Quality of Play. UO certainly has the depth with an unmatched crafting/PvP/PvM systems, but the quality is severely lacking. Let's hope this changes soon.

  24. i will have to disagree with that one.. some factions wont let anymore join and are at a distinct disadvantage at the moment... the only way we are getting around it is using multiple factions (sometimes the same faction as our enemies) just to get people on the field.... their are two major groups playing factions right now and anyone who is involved know taht their is an imbalance in the numbers right now. I know some blue are staying out of factions to try and hopefully get into brits faction.... so I know brits has non-factioners helping them.
