Faction Idea

    just an idea to get more people in factions. I was thinking for every town a guild owns there defence chance should go up.
    think about it, u are now the owners of the the towns, now u got people serving u giving u more defence... the more people serving u (more towns) the higher ur defences :thumbup1:

    Interesting idea, I like the idea of chars getting bonuses from faction activities, but it would have to be balanced properly, or it could get to OP real quick.

    Other games do it DaoC for one has the best PvP out of any mmo. Guilds capture a city/keep w/e it was (been so long since ive played) they are granted mana regen ect... faster speed all that depending on what it was they captured, giving people more of a reason to hold a place and capture a place.

    But keep dreaming UO will never be like that :(

    But you conquered the town. For a while, at least, many in the town would probably be resisting your rule.
    Maybe after an extended period of time of defending the town from others - preventing the sigil from even being taken, let alone corrupted, you'd have the backing of the townsfolk.

    But even then, that assistance would likely only be in or near the town itself, not everywhere.

    now u are making it complicated. i'm just thinking of an idea to make people fight for faction towns. it would make for alot of fun battles.

    its an idea that basically makes all pvpers have to be in factions and it's a bad idea at that.

    The goal should be to provide meaningful benefits from factions. on the old forums it was brought up that control of cities should provide substantially greater control in general.

    The guards should be highly customizable so that insta whack guards in faction cities go bye-bye and are replaced by faction guards who can decide whether blues, reds or grays are enemies of the city based on the sheriffs decisions. The sheriffs could also set guards to attack any group they desired(possibly making all members not in their faction KoS by the faction guards). The finance ministers should have full customizable control on pricing of all vendors in the city to faction, enemy factions, blues, reds, grays. They could also place levies for opening the bank, if enemies choose to bank there.

    Factioners should also be able to use large quantities of silver to produce invasions of non faction cities with their aligned creatures. Faction aligned creatures should be expanded to include more creatures.

    this is what I remember of the thread, it was a pretty long running and widely supported idea, I'm sure some other folks could elaborate.

    There definitely needs to be some additional benefit to owning the towns. Something that will make people want to fight for them. I like the OP's idea and a few others that have been mentioned.

    The only incentive now is faction horses, discounted ore and lumber, and faction craftables (once pub 54 hits, and even then its a laugh).

    I personally play factions to increase the number of people I can kill without getting guard whacked. It's more fun than a red because not everyone that sees you can attack you, and you can worry less about crosshealers.
