Fine line between good buisness and Harassment!

  1. Okay so my mother posted earlier this week about banning someone from our shop. It worked for a while but now the person is blatantly harassing me.. Not even marking up the prices . Just trying to keep my vendors unstocked so we will 1 have to take our vendors down besides her buying out the items or two move. It is becoming way just way to much. What can be done about this. I am not sure this would even fall under harassment other than it is taking the enjoyment from the game. Please any ideas?

Your mad that someone is buying all your items that you have for sale?

    What am I missing here?
  3. Here is the best thing that you can do. Ignore the person that is annoying/harassing you! That will drive them CRAZY! Do NOT rise to their taunts, antics or acts of stupidity!

Don't stock your vendor for a while. Use the down time to build your stockpile of resources or items for sale. Leave a book locked down near your vendor explaining the reasoning to your loyal customers. Keep emotion OUT of your explanation. After a few weeks, have a grand re-opening and stand in the Luna bank gating to your vendor soon after stocking it.

if they are buying you out...raise your prices...make some money off the e-stalker.

hell...if they are buying you out because they are mad at you...I must be doing it wrong.
  5. I know this seems silly that I am upset .. But its not the point of really making a bajillion gold. I have been fighting this for weeks. I think your right I will keep my rune books and recall dye vendor unstocked as she only buys from this. Doesnt rename book doesnt remark rune inside book (i guess you could see that as free publisity) I have even raised the prices but she continues to buy and now is just doing it out of spit. Not to even make a cent off of the items.. Personally it takes ALOT ALOT of work to keep a vendor stocked but if all the items are gone then I will have no new clientel nor would i keep the ones i have..

Did I forget to mention she does this with my other vendor house in ter mur.. Keeping two houses stocked then to see some.. *insert really icky words* trying to make you go out of buisness and also keeping you having to constantly craft.. it gets annoying

  10. Basically when you mark 100 or more rune books of various places make over 2000 recalls and other such stuff( No im not kidding i had my motehr sit there and watch one day).. just to 20 mins later have to rinse and repeat. Gives me one of two choices.. Not stock my vendors lose customers. or spend my whole uo time restocking for naught as she is getting all the goods by doing no work and making more money off my hard earned skills.. hell if she just came to me and said you think you can make this many of whatever for bulk .. Id have no problem.. This is a game..I Should enjoy doing this stuff not make it an actual job.

Stock so much each time and at different times each day to make that customers life difficult and laugh all the way to the bank.

I used to hear the marked deco products I sold cheap were winding up on other vendors at higher prices. I was getting the price I wanted so I was not concerned about it.

Check the Luna prices on one of the Luna vendor websites and see if your way below that price range. If you are, nudge your prices up a bit.

I've been here. Someone did it to my potion vendor on Europa some years ago. Every time I stocked it, he emptied it, forcing me to spend every minute I was in game sitting mixing potions to even attempt to have any to sell to my normal customers. I decided he was totally spoiling the game for me and I'd rather not have a vendor than continue trying to stock it.
In the end my husband put a stop to it, we gave up, cleared the shop off, demolished it and moved. We built the new house with a diffrent character that he didn't know. There were other things we could do in the game that we enjoyed doing, we went and did those instead. I only mixed potions for our own use and for friends who contacted us by icq.
  13. yeah. I will consider just taking down the vendors she wants to make me keep restocking its to bad its the vendors most people like. We just JUST bought this house in luna bank.. And now know why the person wanted to move.

Put a book on it saying it may become empty at times because another shop is trying to ruin your shop and over charge customers. (But don't say the shop name or player. Might get into trouble.)

Add to your shop a made to order section. Put up a bulletin board for player requests. Meet them in game to deliver the goods. Build your client base that way. Keep the rune vendor up with mild stock.

Give your icq to customers. They will pass your Q along to others that are looking for such rune books. Over time you will become well known for supplying such things and people will seek you out.

Recruit a few of your friends to check the house every so often. Friend them to it and when that lady comes back to buy them all out, have your friend ban them. They should be able to tell the difference between a customer and the one trying to ruin your vendors.

    Hope this helps.

This is an example of the type of brainless human you bump into at times when playing UO, who just play to try and annoy people.

If this is how they get their kicks then you've got to take comfort in the fact they no doubt have a hollow and deeply depressing life.

Gareth's suggestion about stocking small amounts but often and supplying to order through your shop is probably about the best suggestion I could think of myself.

GL anyway, I hope you manage to get it sorted.

Just put a stack of items that your selling on it and make one in the stack worth a few mil in each stack. So when they are happily buying all your crap and not looking they will buy that one thing. If its rune books put a rune inside it named thanks for your support.

if I recall the thread the other day, this person is nearby ... buys everything off her vendors then resells on theirs at higher prices. This practice disallows proper purchases from being made at the Ironrose shop by players.

Griefing? Nope but it's damned nasty and uncalled for IMO.
  18. Beer_Cayse

    Beer_Cayse Guest

Here's a bit of nastiness. I assume you use ICQ? First get the word out you are going to go to private sales regardless of what might be on your vendors. Any sales made like this will be at whatever prices you would have set on the vendors at present.

Now ... anything on your vendors that the dipstick next door is likely to want is at least 500,000 gold. Empty runebooks - 500K; full runebook - 8mil. Find out just how stupid they wish to be. If they ARE stupid, you'll make a killing on this.

They have to run out of gold sooner or later. <shrug> Stock your vendors at the outrageous pricing and go on a dungeon crawl or something.
  19. Why is buying all your stuff harrassment?

Are they buying all all all your stuff from every single vendor. Or just stuff they can resell?

If that is the case of buying to resell. I am harrassing people.
I will go to the same place and buy PoF for 99k. I sell 1/2 for 150k and use the other 1/2.

I will buy seeds of renewal for 50k from one vendor and sell them for 150k.

I have marked books that take me places I can buy and resell.

here is a very simple idea.
She is buying you stuff and selling it on her vendor. Well, raise your price up a little above her price, let her buy you out. Then go buy her out.
    Rinse and repeat.
Eventually she will stop buying your crap because you are priced higher than her.

This worked for me back in the day. Granted it's easier than ever to make gold in game now, but even today adding some extra zero's onto some of your merchandise will likely deter them once they notice their bank balance changing. In my case, the person never bothered me again after months of harassing me and leaving nasty messages in books at the shop. Naturally, as always, it was someone "well respected" on the shard who just wanted to help the community. rolleyes:

We have been through this with you yesterday. The REAL probelm is that they have more gold then you have patience. So you now have two options. Move, or stop using vendors. Seeing as how you are intent on letting this person get the better of you and drive you crazy... guess what... THEY WIN.

Can you ambush this person? That is, if you have a bunch of items for sale and he's just cleaning you out, slip one in there that's for an outrageous sum of money. If this person is just hurrying through and buying everyone up on your vendor, perhaps they'll accidentally pay for this and you can clean them out. :)

I know it can be frustrating, but part of being a merchant and trying to have decent prices is people buying out your goods to sell on their vendors, especially on LA.
What I would suggest is just let it go and raise your prices slightly, you are in Luna so you can afford to bring them up a bit I think.
Also maybe rent spots out, the more ppl you have helping you fill vendors the better and easier it is for you, especially in luna...and you can offer free spots instead of charging... just my opinion and thoughts. Good Luck!

Would you listen to yourself? There is no problem here other then yourself. Let me break it down for you...

    - It cant be about losing clientel... You have the best client anybody could hope for. They continuously buy you out no matter how much you stock and no matter how much you charge.

    - It cant be about recognition... they do not change the names of the books that they are re-selling, and they cant change the name on the book of who made it. So your items are still getting out there and getting known.

    - It cant be about providing a community service... they are reselling the items they buy off of your vendor RIGHT NEXT DOOR TO YOU!!! This means the community is STILL being provided with everything you would normally stock.

    - It cant be about you going out of business... They are buying you out, then re-selling the items at the same cost they paid on your vendor. This means that YOU are making money, and THEY are making NO MONEY!

    - It cant be about location... They are your NEIGHBORS. This means that anybody coming to buy items at their shop will still be coming to your location and still be able to buy other items off of your vendor. So your location is still getting the same, if not more traffic.

When it comes down to it you are the problem here. At this point its 100% your fault. You allow yourself to be annoyed, and then you go whining and crying to them and telling them just how much they are annoying you, which only makes things worse. You then come here and whine and cry looking for more i dont know? Drama? Attention? Sympathy? You are every bit as bad as a 3 year old child crying that their sibling is making faces at them in a car ride. Grow up. Get over it. There is ABSOLUTELY no problem here other then what you are making it out to be.
  29. Well...

    Your selling.

Give me a price. Are you like 40 gold for a recall and hes 60.

Id walk over and price you stuff at what they sell.

This is why. Sometimes people price with what is fair in their mind vs what the market really commands.

Its one thing if you have a rune book for 1k and he has it for 25k.
its another thing if you have it for 1k and he has it for 5k.

You might be to cheap in a good way. Match his prices.
When you see people come around give them thing for free. Sure they are paying more but you build customers that way.

I bet your prices are just to low.

What a ridiculous post. The OP wants to sell items to people at a reasonable price, rather than allow their vendor to be bought out by a griefer who will turn around and sell the same items but at a higher markup. If someone wanted a runebook for 10k as opposed to the 100k being charged next door then where will they go? You make it sound like nobody is losing out here, what about legitimate customers?

Nevermind the fact that the OP has continually stated its not about the gold but rather the principle of trying to provide a service.

Are you kidding me? The OP is being absolutely ridiculous here. In a previous post she already said that the "griefer" is buying her items and selling them at the EXACT same price...
Read my fourth point again. We are not talking about 10k vs 100k differences here. We are talking about a marginal difference that is still well within the normal supply and demand. What we could do is look at it from the 'griefers" point of view.

They want to sell an item at a reasonable price, and their evil neighbor keeps trying to undercut them through price wars. Finally the guy gets fed up and says hey I got an idea... Ill buy their product at the price they think is fair, and sell it at the price I think is fair. They win, and I win, all of our customers win because they can still get the items at a normal price. If this "griefer" was not selling any of these items, he would not be repeatedly buying her out and marking up the price to re-sell. They are just not acting like a child and whining and crying about it. The more the OP posts on here the more its looking like they are trying to undercut the competition, and cant handle that the competition has found a way around them doing so.

Yea this is a weird tread. The point of selling is to sell. If a person wanted to give the items to the comunity there is always haven's bank to give to the rare newbies. other than that crafted items still retain the name of the crafter. Hell my items are known around the place when a reseller buys to sell it and vice versa. Making gold and not staying on the vender foever being useless. Other than he calling the op a trammy which is uncalled for if said in a negative remark I just can't see a issue. Just be happy you got steady business for your work.

I don't agree with you and agree with Sonoma. This is a classic case of a retailer realizing they make a better original equipment manufacturer than a retailer. The business owner just needs to change a perception along with their business plan and there is no problem.

This is so much like a real life story its amazing and it happens all the time in business. The OP is learning about business here and wow is it a good thing. They could use this game experience and translate it exactly to business approaches to market penetration. Sometimes companies never reach market share or market penetration, but adapt and prosper.

Hypothetically, It could even be a type of reason R.G. sold UO because he could have seen a larger company like EA had the funding and capital to make UO larger and create lots of servers to improve the performance of UO and our appreciation of a game he loved greatly. Maybe he saw the MMO's were in for a drastic competition that he couldn't battle with his current capital of the time.

Everyone is telling you to adjust the price higher, but that is not the only thing you need to do. You need to balance the volume and the price. You need to raise your price and lower your volume slightly. There will be an inflection point you need to identify.

This is what you do. You are trying to understand the customers and not your rival. Lower your volume and make a spreadsheet for number of items sold every day. You keep raising the price until you notice a difference in the number of items sold per week (or delta t). That is where the market has begun saturation at the high price. You need to adjust price lower one tick and raise volume one tick. Anyway, put it in a spreadsheet and you will see what is happening with the end customers. You need to iterate on this process until you understand your customer, and only then will you know what volume to produce and at what price.

I would let the "invisible hand" of free market capitalism sweep over you. Price to the market. If you are being bought out too quickly, increase prices. If you want to be able to offer lower prices and build recurring clientele, put up a message board and take custom orders over ICQ.

    It's an economic war.

The OP wants to sell at "reasonable" prices to those who aren't elite powergamers with massive wealth. The OP wants to bring prices down.
Meanwhile, the other vendor wants prices to stay up. They can afford to buy out the OP, and resell the OP's wares at high prices, because other elite powergamers with massive wealth can afford to buy at that price.

This leaves the OP's customer base hurting, as they must buy from the higher priced vendors or go without.

I want the OP to succeed here, but it's a battle that can't be won due to the economic strength of the other vendor, and the lack of open PvP possibilities where players could have a "talk" with that rich market manager and price fixer.

Ahhhh, but ya see ... I play LA as well as the OP. Now that I know EXACTLY what shop is doing the harm I can assure you they will not see GP from me at all - even if they begged me to buy.

I have a scribe/mage that can crank out scrolls really well. with 160 mana, GM Med and GM Focus almost inexhaustible pool. I have regs in the quantity of 20K plus of any mage/necro item. I am more than willing to do scrolls by the hundreds to help out ... if it will break the back of an arse.

Runebooks are a snap ... just I don't have a book dye tub (yet) so they are usually for my characters. For a reasonable cut of the profit, I can easily help out.

I plan on hitting every place I can find for blank scrolls and regs ... should my services be required I will be able to rise to the occasion! <grin> I decided to declare "war". This has gotten me mightily peeved.

Maybe you didn't quite catch what's going on ... and yes a vendor sells things. But when someone busts their butt to crank out reasonably priced scrolls and books for the public to buy and use, is it REALLY necessary for someone to completely drain the goods off then resell at high(er) Luna prices when it is not needed?

Seriously ... are YOU willing to spend your time ingame filling YOUR vendor so that someone may come along and reap what you sowed? Would you?

Sorry sister your out of your tree, If I had someone doing it id be so happy id drain them dry of gold!!
Puff up your prices till they stop... get a brain on your head. Do what the big business's do. Listening to the cash register ringing! You set the price why care who buys them.
But honestly they are buying things at your prices YOU SET THEM
Id not care one iota if I sold everything I put on my vendors, id just leave a book in them explaining my refill times, and stroll to the bank a happy camper and go play the rest of the time. You make a set amount of items then go play if they are sold so what.
You got your funds for them I see no problems.
IF you have friends who want pots or books make a box with a book for them to place orders and only tell them of the box /book.
Sooner or later the player who buys you out will stop or find another source to stock their ventor. You cant sue them, they are lazy to do it them selfs. So quit harping they are buying you out 99% of us would love for this!
  46. I do it every single day, and have been for over 4 yrs. Buy low and resell is as common in UO as bugs are. You plan for it. You either raise your prices until they stop buying from you, or you change what you sell to something that's easier to keep stocked. Service to the community is a crock. If you're running a vendor you're doing it to sell stuff. Expect it to be bought and quit pancakes about who's doing the buying.

It's a problem that many will never understand. Some people have vendors to earn gold, or just offload stuff they don't want, and don't care whether they're stocked or not. Some people have vendors to provide a service. The former type will never understand the latter.

I was proud of the fact that I was considered to be a reliable source. 'Go to Petra's vendor' folks used to say, 'she's always stocked'. It's a reputation that's hard to build and takes a lot of work. It hurts when it's destroyed by someone 'dry looting' your vendor every time you stock it.

Why care if you got your asking price? Because the gold is not important, it's not the reason to have the vendor (hard to believe I know) The vendor is there to provide a needed service to fellow players.
  48. It's possible to do both. You do 2 things...

    1. Keep plenty of backstock to restock the vendor BEFFORE it's empty (or after in case someone just buys you out).

    2. NEVER put all of your stock out at once.

It's simple, really. I've been dealing with Luna house owners buying me out every single day for the past 4 yrs. It's not something to complain about.

I understand perfectly well the pride in having a well stocked shop. I had the same thing happen to me a few years back. Someone bought out my potion kegs and stocked them on their vendors with a mark up. I just dealt with it, slowly raising prices along with only stocking one keg at a time. That way I was always stocked with at least one of each type. I regurarly checked what he was selling the kegs for during my raising of prices.

Eventually I found the sweet spot where he no longer felt it was profitable, and he stopped. Then his took down his vendors and I lowered the prices again. My advice to the OP is just to deal with it, there are plenty of advices in this thread on how to do that.

RavenWinterHawk if you are on Great Lakes and I ever reopen my shop please feel free to buy my stuff!

But to the OP I can see that she is taking your fun out of the shop.
