First-timer wants to hunt a Peerless...

So I've been thinking of taking some of my shard buddies up on their offer and trying a Peerless hunt. (Yes, I'm a [IMG] who hasn't tried this before!) Thing is, everyone who has suggested it to me has mentioned a different Peerless. Making me all kinds of confuzzled.

To those of you who've tried multiple hunts, which one do you think I should start with? I'm not interested in specific loot, so that's not an issue. I just want to know which one you think would be the most fun to try!

Thanks in advance for any suggestions...

EDIT: Sorry about that! My best character is a mage/tamer; no super dragon, but I do have one mean cu sidhe. :D I'm equally happy bringing along the pet, or working as a pure mage, whichever is more effective.

They all have their own challenges and fun points. Possibly the easiest for a start is Dreadhorn - keying for it can be a nightmare, but the thing itself isnt too bad, as long as you know what to expect (to be sucked in and poisoned constantly).

Most people have Melisande down to an art and can guide you through it easily.

Travesty is not bad at all, tho you do have to watch out for the spawn at the end.

Shimmer can be a pain, but again, with a group who knows what they are doing, not too terrible.

Paroxy is very easy, and I suspect the reason people dont do it more is how hard the Putrefier can be to get keys from.

Grizzle can be a pain, both to key and to kill, thanks to the acid pools.

Without knowing what template you are thinking of using, it is difficult to give better info than that.

Melisande is a good one to start with, she can easily be done by 3 mages sending waves and waves of earth elementals at her ass. I suggest you keep the group small and take only 3-5 people so the loot doesn't get overly dilated. Melisande usually has a "soup kitchen" line of 30+ people...do not take everyone unless you want 3 junk items from the boss as loot.

Once you have experience move up to Dreadhorn and Grizzle. Travesty and Effusion are the hardest and require much bigger groups [5-10 people, no more than 20 again, if you want loot thats actually worthwhile]

I disagree with your assesment of Travesty being harder and requiring a large group. We do trav with 3 people, no more. It is more about knowing what to do, rather than numbers. Same thing with Shimmer - 3 people. In fact, the less people you have in Shimmer, the better because the more there are the more side spawn there is. Again, it is about knowing what to do, not the numbers :)

  5. Well thats a hard one, every single person I know likes a different Peerless. But definately choose one that is fairly easy and work into the rest.

Lady M's I think are fairly easy, getting keys are cake and besides the four satrys at the beginning things are pretty cool.

Travesty's are my Favorite, getting keys takes awhile cuz you gotta wait for the rooms to respawn, but travesty is a funy one to try and kill and at the end when all the Ninja's pop up can be pretty chaotic.

Dread Horn's can be solo'd basically they are so easy, kinda tricky getting the keys but once you get the hang of it you can do it blindfolded. And killing him with pets or archers is easy as long as your ready for his Poison.

The other three.... Well lets just say I wouldn't recommend them to a new peerless person. The grizzled takes FOREVER, I think anyways, and the proxy is just to painful once you get in to fight him. And the essence well its easy with a few pets, but trying to get the Hyrda keys not worth it in my opinion.

Anyways hope that helps but I'd definately recommend reading up on all of them to see what pops up while your in there fighting and what to expect, Also expect to die a few times and don't get frustrated they can be tricky at first.

But Goodluck with whichever one you choose!!

This is correct. We do all of them (Mel, Effusion, Travesty, Dreadhorn) with just three people.

Works like a champ...no pun intended.

Right - I meant to say we do all with three people, actually often we do Mel and Dread with just two.

And pun or not ... lol you are right, these are the same numbers for a smooth champ :p

You forget rule #1 for Travesty - NO DISCO ALLOWED.

all bards must be disco-free, or your tamers could lose a pet.

Rule #2 for Travesty: Ignore the ninja, keep on Travesty. The spawn point for the ninja is a specific health level; When Travesty teleports away from you, it's to heal - and if she gets over that health level, she'll spawn the ninja AGAIN when she hits it when you resume attacks and teleports away again. Stay on her, ignore the ninja until you drop her well below that spawn point, then start killing the ninja. If you don't you could end up with 50-60 ninja running around.

Not only do people do peerlesses with melee chars, some can solo them, I can solo Trav and Dread on a melee char, and Paroxysmus, Grizzle, and Shimmering are possible to solo.

I like shim for a new person only because of the rezzing both in the key area and the actual battle area. My other beginning one is dread. Prox is a no go for tamers and mages have to remember no summons. He eats pets and summons. Trav is rough is you have a discorder or peacer with you as he copies your skills. Griz is just flat a pain in the you know what. It takes forever to get the keys and then he is just a pain to kill. Mel is okay but i've seen that go bad with a very experinced group. We all die thank heavens for sacrifice.:blushing:

Why is it I never see anyone mention rule against archers (or even dexers) with weapons that have mortal strike special move? That can be just as deadly as a discorded pet. Ran one with someone using a Bow of the Juka king and sure enough the pets and some players got hit with Mortal Strike..

Another thing noticed about dear ole Trav, she can use spells that the player she is copying can't. For example had a char with 40 necro and when she became me she started casting Revenants. So she appears to copy any skill you have any points in and looks like she may have 100 or more skill level in them. What was even stranger she kept casting the Revs when she changed back into her normal form.

I'd recommend Mel... tank pet (cu or superdrag) to jump on her first (she changes targets, but mostly sticks with the first attacker) and at least one high-damage pet work well. Remember to stay a few tiles back to keep out of the way of her area effect... a tamer can vet, but your mage x-healers need to be on the ball to keep you from dirtnapping. Crank up your MR and LMC as high as you can, and either take a boatload of GHeal/fire damage spell regs or use 100% LRC.

Necro-mage works well at Mel, using Lich Form for the MR. Also very handy to animate the satyrs so Mel can't do it herself. And as always with Peerless, Arcanists do well with WoD towards the end.

Lure the Satyrs (4) one at a time down to your group for ease of killing before tackling the lady herself. A mage with an invis pre-cast for the lurer helps save lives. Disco can be a biatch :p

Mel summons a satyr near death, which is usually signals the chaos for most inexperienced groups (no one wants to stop damaging the boss herself to take care of it, a good idea to decide beforehand who's going to deal with it when it spawns).

Keep an eye out for Revenants, she likes to summon 'em.

I've seen meleers do well with a Pixie Swatter, but mostly the groups I have gone with have been mages, necro-mages, mage/tamers, and sw/tamers.

Go for Dread once you've had a go at Mel... simply because the keys can be a pita and can easily turn into grey-screen hell. Me and a guildie have done two-man Dreads a lot using two tamers - one of whom constantly casts cure/arch cure and the other healing, and a cu or superdrag and beetle/bake combo.

    Have fun :)

Thank you so very much for all the great info! Plenty to think about there.

I'll be trying Dreadhorn or Melisandra out on Lake Austin the next time I can pry enough people away from beating the heck out of poor Melissa. :D

As always, I really appreciate the help!
