This post is focused solely on making sure the PvP is balanced when SA launches.

Other MMOs have done guild beta invites, where people that PvP together can join in on the beta and work together to test out PvP. I think that if you took a few of the major PvP guilds across a few shards you would be able to identify the OP template in a matter of a few days.

I'm not saying it should be 'exclusively pvp guild invite', because I think it's important to test the PvM and Crafting side of things as well. After all, I'm not going to be the one to test growing plants to make sure they look right.

Well they'd have to be able to differentiate between the real PvP guilds and the gank-squad nooblets. (and the champ spawn cam scripters)

    best left for open beta!
1 that way no group of people is favored
2 how would you choose the size of the guild and what if there were accounts with marks against them in the guild? the vetting proccess would be terrible to do!
if the guild was large say 100 people now you are all of a sudden granting 100 people from one specific group in?

I say not a good idea better saved for open beta

It would be a separate beta signup.

Why should account markings have any bearing?

Why should the beta testing process be fair?

I keep seeing this word "fair" being posted, and the powers that be seem to agree, but I don't.

I don't see any problem with allowing large groups from established PvP guilds (or other guilds, for that matter) if the end result is a more balanced game. On the other hand, how would you prevent these same groups (or any group, for that matter) from taking the imbalance issues they find in the beta, keeping them as secret as possible, only to destroy everyone once the expansion goes live?

These are people that have had transgressions in the past for cheating or breaking the rules or other offenses its like putting the sex offender in charge of the day care or the wolf in with the sheep I can find no merit in doing this at all!

I was banned once for calling someone fat, he asked me to stop so I said "Sure thing tubbs".

I shouldn't be able to participate in beta?

  10. Ya, I understand what you are saying there, but unless the accounts are marked that specifically, how else would you weed out those caught duping, scripting, etc.? Do we want scripters in the beta test? I really don't think accounts marks are that specific, but maybe they are.

1.) There is no favoritism in the picking, based on the guild applications they would make an informed decision.

    2.) See #1

Just because a guild has 100 people on their guildstone doesn't mean there are 100 active players. I've been in vent with HOT before and the most I've seen in their vent was around 50 and they are pretty much the definition of zerg. Even still, why not? The idea is to recreate a production shard environment to test the new client and the expansion.

What better way to test the clients capabilities than to have 40 HOT grinding the island in despise while 7 other guilds of reasonable numbers duke it out to see who pushes the bridge?

Who cares if a scripter is in the beta, the new client scans the RAM for the scripting tool.

Stop spreading lies. The new beta ALLOWS EA to scan RAM, but you have zero evidence it actually does.

And you have no evidence it doesn't... thxbai

Edit: Also, it wouldn't really be a lie unless I knew for a fact that it wasn't included. At this point I'm spreading speculation. You need to get a +15 trolling bracelet and ring because you are subpar.

But but but.... IT'S NOT FAIR! Why should just the major PvP guilds get in!?!?!?!?

Seriously though, it's a better idea than what we've seen so far. From what I've seen on the boards, it looks like there's barely any PvPers in the beta.

Having played beta of many games. I can say that keeping the people with marks against them out is like asking the people who have never found bugs to find the bugs.

  17. I forget where the quote is now but Draconi said like a week ago "what better time to do a combat rebalance than in the first publish AFTER the SA release and its new classes?" (paraphrasing here).

And if you look at the history, this is pretty much what always happens... they balance the classes/combat after the expansion ships.

PVP has not been balanced since pre Mondain's Legacy. There was a period of time where PVP was balanced before the expansion. Then they hired some SIMS programmer who made archers reign for about a year. Now we have greater dragons/dread war horses. ML will bring more unbalance. I would not expect any balance in PVP for one to two years... Even if they know of an unbalance it takes about this much time for them to correct.

*Shrug* Nothing personal .... but I accept this may be some what .... inflammatory.

My experience with "Organized Guilds", be it PvP, Raid etc, they do NOT come to the Beta Test as Good citizens. They come to the Beta for "Advanced" knowledge of the expansion. They do report SOME of the bugs they find but DO NOT REPORT ALL of the bugs they find.

It is MY OPINION :) that the "Organized Guilds" (a euphemism for perceived ELITE STATUS) is that the will NEVER JUST PLAY THE GAME. It is in their personality to make sure THEY HAVE EVERY CONCEIVABLE ADVANTAGE.

If it were me calling the shots, these group of people would be invited on the last day, the last hour and the last minute of Beta.

In your original post, IF your refering to WoW, EQ then *Chuckles* those games are far from being "Just play the game" they are far closer to being "A Professional WoW/EQ Player".

If UO wants to have "Professional Game Players" playing UO then yeah your right. IF NOT THEN ......

You stated the information as if it was fact. If you want to spread fact say "they are able to check RAM." Otherwise, you should say that it is your own speculation. There is enough misinformation spread on these boards.

I strongly encourage you to put some thought into your choice of words before replying and quoting me.

Firstly, if a group discovered and used a successful technique to kill others in the Beta, the group that was the victim of such technique would surely present the feedback. I realize you don't PvP so I don't expect you to understand such things, but to be honest I also hoped that your kind wouldn't reply to the thread due to the lack of understanding. That is pretty much why I started this thread with the sentence

Your opinion on organized guilds has about as much merit as a used piece of toilet paper, seeing as you don't PvP.

I really don't understand what you were trying to get across in your last two sentences, but I deal with your kind regularly so I'll take a shot.

It seems that you are saying that WoW and EQ require more of a time investment than UO. This has absolutely no bearing on my OP, please refer again to my first sentence in this reply.

That sums you up in total, as long as we are on the kick of "FINITELY KNOWING POSTERS" :)

In short you admit you don't understand something but you will reply any way. :)

Nah, you are absolutely clueless about me, what I do or do not do. You want to pretend you know everything there is to know. What more do you care to manifest about yourself?

Your perception of being Elite and everyone else as being slugs is cool :) You can keep your perception for the rest of your life as it really doesn't affect anyone else but you.

And it was touching how you wanted to 100% control the "TYPE" of people (as you claim to know every thing about every poster :) ) about a generalized open subject. I mean what incompetent wouldn't want to 100% moderate the thread they are trying to be oh so brilliant in so they could delete any and all things they did not approve of :D
