Fun with Heartwood Scripters

Everyday on Pac you can see the same char in the same spot doing quests faster than a pop-up on a porn site. The char would take small amounts of boards from the beetle after every quest, toggle each item as it was made (you could hear the music of toggle completion as the last item was made) - when the beetle is empty he mounts the beetle and leaves the same way each time then in about 90 seconds returns to do it all over again - taking the same route to the exact same spot. Tonight I blocked his path with some boxes - I watched him recall in and start to make items on his way back to the fletching quest area. The boxes stopped him and the char kept making items for a second quest which he toggled (must get 2 quests on the way for a reload). After the char stood there looking confused for about 30 seconds turning right and left he dismounted. A few seconds later he remounted and appeared to head back for another reload.

I have reported this char before for the same thing - over a month ago...

Its more fun if they are doing it in Fel side. Make a thief and look inside their backpack. If he's lucky that day, you will find so many nice things to steal [IMG]

I have to admit I am impressed by the script itself - all the actions taken...How would the script know what quest was given?

I guess one way to fix this is to have a random captcha you have to input before a quest could be accepted.

[/ QUOTE ]OCR, the script "reads" the quest title and recoginzes the correct one. Usually done by simply scanning a single line of pixels across the title and adding the color values, each title will get a unique sum you can store and compare. Quite simple really.

The thing with these heartwood scripters is, I've got split feelings about them. Some scripting is bad, yes, 23/7 UM resource gatherers need to die IRL. But seeing how it takes around 200K boards and several days of 23 hour scripting to get a single heartwood kit, which will result in MAYBE one bow worth keeping, the rest being mongbat loot quality with completely useles mod combos. SC/FC -1 and 7 poison resist WOOT!
There is just no way of getting a useful ammount of kits, and have even the slightest most remote chance of getting a great bow without scripting in Heartwood. There just isn't.
The kit distribution needs to either change, or runic property allocation needs to be changed.

I am of the opinion it should be very very hard to get the uber items and if the heartwood runic doesn't make the bow you had hoped for then keep working at it until you do or buy a bow from a reputable fletcher with gold or items you earned playing the game - seems the only difficult thing to do anymore is to train taming, everything else seems to be credit card this and/or scripting that (unless there is a taming script out there I haven't heard of).

Look at the trade forums (shards too but the threads get moved) and see how many threads there are from people selling gold and items for real money - I guess I'm hard core, if you can't earn it in-game without outside assistance then you shouldn't have it. Doing it otherwise is cheating.

yes and no on this one. i agree that any top end kit should difficult to get but since the BOD change a heartwood kit is much more difficult to get than a aggy hammer (same # of properties...aggy hammer having higher low end intensities and 10 MORE CHARGES than its heartwood equal.)

    neener neener *scratches head*

oh...and lol @ the humorous approach. however do be careful...as this trick could get yourself in the pooh. ty for the good LOL...wish i coulda been there!

Not so sure - over the last 30K boards I have dedicated to heartwood fletching quests I have received a Yew and a Heartwood runic - I have yet to get an oak or ash. Over that same time frame, I have only one smithy and may do two or three bods a trip depending on the bods I get, I have only received 1 lbod that will net me a gold hammer when I can acquire the small bods.

    lol noo no captchas!

i wish the quest engine would give a list of quests, rather than having to select through quests. i wonder if a script can pick one quest out, based on ids and junk. anyway, i dont know. i dont have the time to do those quests, i dont have the money to buy the kits. [IMG] lol

I was doing the quest. Did it over a period of 4 days. Used about 400k boards. Thats all I did those 4 days. I didn't even get an Oak Runic. So until some changes are made to the system, I simply wont partake again. I did it all manually, no scripts.

Personally, I don't care if there are scripters. Why? Because if my experience is anything like others, I don't blame them. Maybe if the devs made it not just a little easier but possible for a person NOT using scripts to get them then I would say stop the scripters.

I think rare items, should care from rare spawns. And player crafted stuff should be reasonably attained.

Scripting for smith hammers for 2 months to get a gold+ or days on end 23/7 for a decent fletch runic is silly.

Blame the developers not the scripter.

I did it while raising my skill from 30 to GM over a couple of weeks. It's not the fastest way to raise your skill but it is the best return for your bows. When i was done i had 3 oaks 1 ash and 1 yew runic. You just have good days and bad days, keep at it. BTW that person was there EVERYTIME i went there.

I saw a guy doing this in fel, but he would store his good rewards on his bug. I followed him a bit as he left Heartwood. Just out of the gate he casts recall, goes nowhere and hides. I suddenly see a heartwood kit jumping/falling from the sky. After running to get some mage jewelry for reveal, I snoop his pack and steal the kit as it appears in between attempts to drag it somewhere far far away. Its then that I realize that he was out of recall regs. Yay for me. Nice 14 million to get me started back after a UO vacation.

  37. umm why don't you go down to Heartwood and try getting something outta those quests. You'll get carpal tunnel long before you get anything worthwhile. It's a crappy system and drives me nuts. I wish they had an easier system too.

Seriously, if you're in this for the questing you're playing the wrong game unless you like the pain then this 10 year old buggy game is perfect :p

I remember back in the day I got a useless oak runic after days of cranking away at it. Now I just do it in little spurts cause it puts me to sleep too.

Lol. I live on siege, and I regularly cruise through heartwood on my pk.

Heartwood is a guardzone, so I know i'm gonna get whacked. However, there's plenty you can do there anyway.

Shurikens will deadly poison the crafter or his packy before you get whacked.
Greater explosion pots are a nice way to kill anyone in a GZ before you get whacked.
Snooping and thieving is also a fun thing to do.

Because of this, there is very little unattended scripting in heartwood on siege.
