Future Rune Book, Rune change??

Discussion in 'UHall' started by LordDextonious, Dec 1, 2011.

  1. I think the SoT books are a great idea, and Many thanks to the devs...

So would it be hard to make it so you could store hundreds of runes in runebooks? So sick of carrying so many runebooks. Or even have a runebook gump that could hold all our runebooks? That way it wouldn't take up valuable space in your pack. Something changed would be monumental.

I need to play devil here for a second...

Runebooks while better then the old way of keeping bags of loose runes in your pack, or even the loose runes floating in your main pack was a hard thing to manage if you croaked....

The advent of the runebook was a "gods" gift to the masses. 16 runes you didnt have take up so much space or loss if killed.. was the best thing sence sliced bread. Till now...

My son yells at me constantly when he gets on my accounts that my mains carry a full library of runebooks. He gets totally pishie at my "full" pack. Yes I have a good deal of runebooks on many of my characters... 16 runes per mind you really is fantastic BUT.... I'd love the books to hold a bit more perhaps double or triple so I could cut back in my pack the number of books I need.

The rub is if they did...... the need for books from a scribe would fall off and make the skill more moot than it is now... Scribes bread and butter is their skills ability to make the books of sufficient charges and quanity that players will buy them. There are players who will mass produce items to the point that they flood the market and this is one of the down sides of a bigger book.

But in the long run I still want a larger capasity runebook. Now there is a way to make it a bit more challenging to make them and perhaps keep the production to a managable level..... perhaps a chain of steps from many skillsets to get the products nessassary to make it... Cook for pulp, Tailor for the special cord ued to sew the binding, Tinker for hinges and clasp, Alchemist for the ink and setting lotion.... like real bookmaking. This is just an idea mind you but for a book of this type the process needs to be worthy of the outcome.

As for the Alacristy books and a book for power scrolls.... it would be nice for one like the SoT book.

In addition to screwing over the scribe, I like having multiple runebooks because that way I can have multiple default runes. If you could store 100 runes in one book that would be cool, but what if you only had one default? That would suck.

This. I carry 4-8 runebooks on most of my characters. They are all organized the same and each runebook has a default rune set that is consistent between characters.

I think it might be good to say double the number of runes from 16 to 32 per book. That would be a plus in my book.

  8. Or... Just have a gump that holds all your books, and get them the heck out of our pack. I mean, we don't have to carry our 2 books that are in our paperdoll in our pack. The one that tells us that we are JOAT, (that we can't really do anything with), or the one for our primary and secondary abilities.

Place it in a gump window! Open runebook gump and select a book!

Even if you had a runebook with a hundred runes, you don't think that'd be worth the value of 10 runebooks on your vendor? I'd pay a mil for that instead of 15k each x 10 filled runebooks. I think scribes would make money off them still if they were craftable. I too have defaults on EVERY runebook on every character. So I see where that'd be a pain having 100 runes. But still, one of them books would be neat for the places you don't really go often.

I like the idea, but why not make this new runebook fully featured by requiring it be locked down in a house in order for it to be used.

Sugar your not getting the jist of why players want a larger rune carrying book...

It would be to cut back on books in ones posession. Granted a libary does take up alot of space in ones home.. but it would be greatly out of wack if one couldnt FIND it.

32 or 48 rune space book could be added as a secondary creation... as I said a special creation by the scribe with the help of other skills and mats.

Perhaps in metalic colors to distinguish them from others..

The issue is not more runes per runebook…

It's the dreadful old runebook dye tub.

Easily, anyone can survive with 2 standard runebooks. One for cities/banks, and one for everyplace they need to go. My guys standard carry 3, 2 for places to go. Reason here is… being QUICK, not searching through 500 locations for the ones you want. 3 books… 3 defaults. Your bank, your home, and your vendors. At least for me. Not flipping page after page looking for stuff. Finding the correct rune in a hurry in a mass book would be pure insane in the membrane.

No, dudes and babes… what we need is a new runebook dye tub to help with better colors. If you are old enough to remember when the 4th year tub was new, there was a small trick to get normal dye tub colors. We didn’t know if it was an exploit, but after going back and forth on this issue, the staff declared it an “Easter-Egg”… and that was a LIE. It was “fixed” not soon after.

People LOVED the “neon” color books. I was one of the rare few vendors not trying to capitalize on the craze, offering books at a fair price. I couldn’t keep up with demand because people would just eat them up. Bright colors, not these washed out colors the tub offers. You may also say that these plant dyes are a “replacement” for our missing neon colors… far from it. It's true they can offer a couple of higher desired colors, but it's totally not the same. Maybe a higher year vet tub? I just can't believe the popularity of the neon books from so long ago was totally ignored in the progression of player-able technology.

Forgive me gang! On Atlantic shard, “Lady Kitten Gillian” runebooks are well known… and have migrated to many other shards with transfers. My brand. It's one of the rare things I’m actually an expert on.

    How about:
An additional item in the scribe's menu - deluxe rune book, holds 32 runes requires one gate scroll, 1 recall scroll, 1 blank rune, 32 scrolls (1 per page?)
That way those who feel the need to carry a whole library around with them can reduce the number of books, but those who travel lighter can use the existing 16 page books.

I was thinking about the library question of this idea… and you would end up needing a reference section or one of those card-files… or whatever they use now. hehe.

It's hard enough finding stuff in my own limited public library at the mall!

And the idea of throwing even more work into a new book, as you mentioned… OMG. hehe. More work? I don’t even dare to estimate how many runebooks I make in a year… that require sitting and boring myself to death to make. Did you see those silly game-code house-to-house teleporters? They eat gate scrolls. I have zero interest in buying those, trading for them, or even if someone gave me them for free. Bargaining for the actual 12-year vet porters is a far better investment! Not to be mean, babe… if they did that to us, I would boycott those new books as well.

What I'd like to see for new books and scribe stuff

    1. Specialty Runebooks.
Runebooks that are crafted for one travel type. So, if you are a Chivalry user, you can just pop open to the front page and hit the button to go to the location, instead of having to flip to another page, then choose Sacred Journey. Other methods require targeting the book to go to the default. One of the most annoying things is switching back and forth between characters, and absent-mindedly clicking recall instead of SJ, or SJ instead of recall, on the wrong character. These would include the ability to cast the spell as if the runebook was a spellbook with only the related spell in it.

    2. Gate runesticks.
These allow a non-mage to cast a gate spell, but are many times more difficult/expensive to make than scrolls. Say, using some of the lesser-used ML ingredients and one of the unused Essence types from SA. These would be one-use items.

    3. Rune Bookcases.
Work like Runebooks, but only usable locked down, and contain 64 runes. Would be available in several different styles, so that Rune Libraries would have more decor options. Would require both carpentry and inscription to craft.

    4. Different Runebook art choices, that would display in paperdolls when held (and also look neat locked down).

    5. And, of course, books for sorting SoA's, PS, SOS, and T-maps. The latter two would be the most problematic.

Suggestion for T-map books - have multiple ones based on location. Say, 4 different books for the island maps - each book only accepts maps for its area. Then, 8 or 12 books for the mainland, divided up similarly. A book can hold Trammel or Fel maps, but not both facets at the same time (like quivers do with arrows & bolts).
Malas would have 2 books (one per continent), Tokuno 3 books, and similar numbers for Ilshenar & Ter Mur. This might go hand-in-hand with a LONG overdue revamp of the locations listed when marking runes.

A (far) bigger runebook would be great. It could also be way more effective than the "clean up britannia" thing in removing items from the game.

I'd go for a 32 rune book. Many books just became too much 'Clutter' for my mind. Here's what I asked me self:
Why do i need a rune to Every Moongate when they're all connected? (can't for Ilsh anyways)
Why do i need a rune to every Shrine? been there, seen 'em all already.
Why do i need a rune to every City? I rarely use other than Skara.
Why do I need a rune to every bank? 1-2 banks IRL, same in game.

Now, I do have 2 dungeon books, simply because there's so many and if the rng is in my favor, I'll hop around a lot, +1 additional, specifically for each character (if needed). went from over a dozen to 5-6 max

Iv always wanted a bigger rune book, especially for my shopping runes i have about 6 books of shops which is anoying in your pack.

It would be cool if they made a new big fun quest to get the books or part of an event or from the turnin thing.

Some way to make us earn them instead of just chucking them out there.

I wish they'd done that with the sot books [waiting for a SoA book now] as whats the point of giving everyone the chance of having 7 per server! They could of done it in a fun way instead of latter day rare.

Frankly, I have no clue why anyone would need a rune to every shrine on them… but you have me. :)

This seems like a classic case where you can survive on 2 books like I was saying. Personally, I don’t know how anyone survives with out a full city bank book. I don’t know how many times I’ve had to meet, collect, and transport people who only had a rune to 1 bank.

We have public rune libraries… use them, I say.

Otherwise… most people are best served by having at least one small stack of books like all the dungeons, all your shrines if you need them, all your common hunting spots, mining… whatever. I had that in my own personal house for years just in case one of my guys died and needed to be rescued on the spot. 5-7 books tops. Is that need of rewriting all the code and wasting designer time when there are much more important things to do? I say-ith not.
