Gates with bake follower?

    IS there some gameplay reason that I cannot go through a moongate with a bake following me, or is it a glitch? It works just fine with static moongates, just the ones I cast myself dont seem to work; I walk through it and nothing happens
     
  2. make sure you spam "all follow me" a few times right before you go in, to make sure they're following you.

    Bakes go through my gates just fine, so long as they know they're supposed to. Its best to repeat the command several times, as Murphy's law dictates they'll chose the most inopportune moment for that 1% control chance failure to occur.

    No there is no problem and as has been said make sure they are "actively" following you via the "All Follow" pet command.

    I believe there IS a problem with gates I get the "you lack cohesion" message about 90% of the time I use magery gates. This is with or without followers. Same with gates made by other people as well. Statics are fine.
     
  5. "you lack cohesion" is just an aspect of gates. They're a wink and a nudge towards old players back when magery was THE way to travel, unless you wanted to footslog it, and had its own caveats.

    I wonder what the mechanic is for that, though... i've thought it might have to do with decreased mana in the past, but i swear its worked even at near-0 mana.

    Based on memory .... very very old memory from when it first came into UO ... It has to do with a timer ... kind of as in a panic timer. If you keep hitting the moongate (clicking it) then you keep getting the message and the moongate will eventually decay.

    On the other hand, you can take a few steps away from the moongate, turn around and walk back into the moongate and .... pass through.

    I do believe the punishers at Origin chose to punish people for dbl clicking the gate, going through, walking back through the gate, pick up 50K stones of ore or what ever single item and do a last object to go back through the gate.

    I started getting the "lacks cohesion" message this afternoon too, over and over every time I tried to enter the gate, and even after spamming "all follow me" it still didn't work. If I told the Bake to stop, I could walk through just fine. It doesnt always fail like that though, and usually by the second or third cast it works. Not really a prohibitive condition, just a pain

    The cohesion thing is meant so you can not continually walk through gates, this is very buggy tho. like if someone casts a gate spell standing on you, you will most likely get this message, or if you cast it on terrain where the gate will move on the z axis by 1 you have a good chance of getting this message. The oddest part about this is sometimes you can run back and forth through a gate with out any trouble at all, this of course usually happens when you are NOT trying to do it tho.

    I have a macro for "all stop" then "all follow me" which I hit then double click the gate. I tend to cast, stay in the same spot and call my pets just before I go through. Usually that works fine for me, unless I overclick the gate ;)

    I've had this problem with followers and without. I think its just a glitch. sometimes I have to cast 3 or 4 gates before I get through, and other times I have no problems.

    "Lack cohesion" was put in a long time ago because players used to blackhole themselves in order to dupe money. IIRC, they would get blackholed, then not be able to log till the next day after server reboot, and everything in their bag would be doubled.

    Anyways, if you play with sound on then just wait till the sound effect is done (lasts about 2 seconds right after you cast the gate), then walk through it and you'll avoid the message that way. Or count to three after the gate pops up and then use it.
