Anyone else? Seems similar to the last incident.
Yea I'm getting the same
Iframes in posts/threads/forums/pm's and even in emails being sent out.
I'm not getting the warning yet, but last time I didn't get the warning until some time had passed. I hope the person behind this gets caught and punished.
I can't say how much I agree with this. What's sad is, It might be someone from the UO community, Which imo is attacking not Stratics, but the community by potentially infecting them with viruses.
I ran my virus software yesterday after browsing the forums all day with the iframes, Wasn't anything there, So as long as you have an anti virus, which everyone should, should be fine.
Stratics is pretty pathetic right now. God help you if you are playing UO and try to open Stratics at the same time.
My advice to all, and I'm following it too, back off Stratics, no matter how empty your UO may feel......later Stratics.
when is someone from stratics going to apologize to both EA/Mythic and the playerbase for allowing this crap to happen?
Is that supposed to make everyone feel better?
funny change over to a new "owner" and different advertisements bring viruses to the boards i am willing to bet some of teh e-mails sent for wow and ncsoft origoniated form the e-mail database form this site
You know this sort of pisses me off A LOT.. I made a new posting yesterday in hopes to let the players know about the infection.
@ some point a mod locked the thread for no reason other than they thought it should be locked due to stratics correcting this issue. Only to see now that the thread has be pushed off because ppl could no longer reply to a LOCKED thread..
I am starting to believe they may be letting it happen with some intent. When you close the presses, then ppl don't get informed.
If this keeps up I myself will be leaving Stratics. I don't like someone censoring us as we protect ourselves.
Wait for it ....
Wait for it....
I hear the jailer coming down the hall with the keys..
Hey Magdalene you were wrong!
"This thread is sooo before lunch, get with the program, it's solved."
Now turn your head and repeat.
Oddly enough, I just downloaded Firefox and added an ad blocker add-on and I'm not getting the virus warning... yet. I guess it was time! I tried FF years ago and hated it because it was slow, but it seems pretty good now! Still trying to get used to it, though.
I also use adblock for stratics.
many sites I disable adblock such as new york times website, I like to see the ads. but here on stratics where you get World of Warcraft advertisements on a UO forum and other advertisements with viruses.. I block.
Been a firefox user for years, I, Just this week turned to Google Chrome, Firefox is just too slow for me now. I've tried removing all the addons but its still slow, Google Chrome has ABP too and is very snappy, me likes.
It also allows you to log into your google account, and if you do that on two computers it will sync bookmarks.
Anyone see the little weird squares, in Firefox? Like sometimes they come after the text of a user's post? Those sure look like iframes without any content ... it happened to my website once but I got rid of it.
Careful Alvinho, I received an Infraction Warning yesterday for saying slightly less than what you just wrote. I even appealed it with no response, I didnt expect one anyway.
I am not currently seeing any little squares.
I see the little square after everyone's signature and on the forums list after the forum description
saw it also on the 'thank you for logging in, DevilsOwn' screen
(edit to add.... the only forum description that does not have the little square is 'ask the devs')
Firefox, adblock plus, and noscript
Just a thought... Could be a problem with an add-on you're running or something. I just downloaded FF and added only 2 ad-blockers. One for email and one for websites.
If its important, it would be on the front page.
A review of probably the second best add-on for Firefox.......
yes they are going crazy with the ban threats and such on this issue. it's bad PR in my opinion, i haven't seen an apology yet and some moderators have been extremely obnoxious.
That's the zero-size IFRAME that is looking to compromise your machine. If you View Source on the webpage you see it is pointing to:
So yes, Stratics is very much compromised at the moment.
just went and blocked that ip address and all the little squares are gone now
S.P.A., as you can tell I'm no techie, took me a while to figure out how to do that, so I'm wondering just how 'compromised' is, first, my machine, and second, Stratics users at large
I am still seeing them on most peoples signatures.
I agree, the arrogance is astoundingly bad PR.
I got banned for posting a thread that said thanks for virusing me.. called a troll, etc by mods. I guess someone later undid it?
Unfortunately, it was true. I have good AV, and nasty virus the last attack gave.. No joke. *sigh*
I've traced the pages it is calling and amongst other things it tries to open an ActiveX Object for Shockwave, and a Spreadsheet object, it is pursuing a whole list of vulnerabilities to see if your machine falls for any of them.
A thoroughly evil piece of hacking and Stratics would do well to remove this immediately.
However, as you point out, by adding 126.96.36.199 to your adblocker you can immediately prevent your machine from seeing it any more.
Yep, I have the little squares all over the page here.
I have ran virus checkers and I'm clean but this site is all screwed up.
you would not want to the load page in IE6
I can't believe they haven't pulled down the site yet or have a huge warning on the top of the forum if they lost access to their web server.
