    1. Because of many, many posts, discussions and protests, on here and the blog, about the abuse and manipulation of visitor hours to get visitor bonuses.

    2. The basic financial reason....simply too much money was being 'created' (money faucet) in the game, thru visitor bonuses.

So really now there is no reason to get visitor hours except to get on the top 100 so someone might come visit you? Not trying to be flip, just asking.

well, they couldve lowered them and not remove them ... they didnt give much $$ anyways ... a maximum of 1k?

Yeah, per day though....which in our economy would be ALOT. *If* they bring them back, I would support it if like 20% or 200 e.m.u. a day was maximum. I doubt given the fact that they want people to use the drains more with the money they have NOW, and the fact that the ATMs are in the picture for anybody who doesn't want to make them themselves that they will bring property/visitor bonus back. The thing that needs to happen is payouts need to come up across the board, but again that won't happen until people start using the drains in-game, which they are not right now.

Yes, the top 100 list is the major goal behind VH, though it would be alot better if the top 100 was calculated a different way, especially with the bonus gone. As you say, VH has no real significance anymore, so I don't see any reason for the top 100 to be ranked using them.

The short answer, is yes. [IMG]

But that is still a very important reason...just ask any store owner who is not on the list! [IMG]

BUT what is the point of being a store owner? To sell more stuff??? for what? See there is NO rewards in this game at all. Maybe if they gave special items or something but there is no reason really to DO anything in this game besides chat. Aren't games supposed to have goals? What are we playing for if not to achieve goals. If you ask me EA Land isn't better than TSO it's worse. At least I could afford to build when I was on. Now I can't even do that because it's too expensive. Someone please explain what reason there is to play and why pay $9.99 a month for it. Any other reason besides chatting.

Maybe you don't have goals, and maybe store owning has few goals because you don't have to *do* anything to reach them, but for me, this game has many goals. I am at this moment skilling four sims...3 are mine 1 is my hubby's to be able to reach the goals that I have set for them. Perhaps being able to sell items in a store should require a specific skill or set of skills. Charisma for one....anybody in the customer service business ought to possess charisma, or 'people skills', what else.....logic, maybe? Creativity? I dunno what the second skill would be but I think that there should be a skill set required, and that instituting one would increase the goals that are involved with having a store or at least the goals you have to achieve before you can have one, and would eliminate the overage of stores we have now simply because stores is one of the easiest things to do in game right now.....if Forrest Gump was a sim, he could do it, LOL. [IMG] Seriously, there's goals all over the place in game, but you are right when you say none that are directly related to the store category other than reaching the #1 spot, which 80% of the population probably is willing to cheat to do.

You misunderstand me when I talk about goals. Skilling sims is not a goal. Making money is not a goal unless there is an end all reason for it. Now you do have some good ideas with having to have a certain skill to own a certain type of house but really there are NOT goals all over the place in the game. Personal goals for your satisfaction are not goals. Maybe I should of said what are the "rewards" for completing your goals? Nothing.

Completing my goals will be my reward....the satisfaction of knowing I did it.

Skilling *is* a goal to me because there are things that I am going to do with those skills, therefore just like you said moneymaking is only a goal if it is for a purpose, the same goes for skilling in that case.

The point is, players are too focused on trinkets or rewards, whether they are for completing certain things, or something that the game just hands you like anniversary objects. We've already got the lava game where if you complete the various stages of it you will get a lava lamp in the end, I don't think there NEEDS to be any more 'reward objects' than that, other than *maybe* career track objects for getting to a job track, and that has been stated before, but I do the job tracks now even without that just because they are fun and they make good money.

Thank you.. [IMG] Plus, some of my 'goals' and of many others requires some more simoleans in order for them to be achieved..

Like for skill or money house owners, their goals atm might be just to feed the guests and keep them happy, the visitor's bonus would be of a great help in this case ...

The visitor bonus has everything to do with goals and if you don't see that you are blind. Right now who cares if you have visitor hours as long as you are on the list? It doesn't matter because you don't want to say anything negative about the game. I want the game to become more appealing so more people play. If new people come in and they can't do anything even personal goals as you say then what is the point?

Visitor bonus has zilch to do with goals. Visitor bonus provides money, and money only....Visitor hours are what indirectly contribute to goals if a person's goal is to make it to #1 in their category. If they're not #1 and that's their goal then they are gonna care plenty, I assure you. I personally don't give a rat's rump at this point about visitor hours, but I have in the past had several #1 houses and at that time it was an exhilerating goal, visitor bonus to one side......I just liked seeing my name in lights, so to speak. I would have fed those guests from my own pocket if there was no visitor bonus, spending time while roomies held the house open making pizza or maze or code or whatever. So yeah, if somebody has that as their goal and they want it bad enough, they'll do whatever they have to do to get it, whether they get a visitor bonus or not.

You think I only want to say good thing about the game, well, by the same token I think there are those who will look past any positive thing to find every negative thing they can to make it sound like the entire game is crap when obviously there are plenty who think that the game as a whole is great even if there are some areas that could use improvement. NO game is perfect.

for a person to start us a business , they are expecting some returns/rewards/profits.. without these, expect many houses and business to leave the market very soon ....

  22. Visitor bonus was just money. If your goal is still to be number one...visitor hours still get you there. I'm still against this because it is still controlled by the few. Visitor bonus was manipulated and controlled by the few that could afford all the extra accounts to get them. I'm glad they did away with it.

We need new goals, not the old ones that never worked.

  23. jammybob

    jammybob Guest

The taking of the visitor bonus means that only well off real-life people could possibly run a top skill house.
As was stated earlier, it provided just enough to feed guests. without it, and no way to really make money in the game as things stand, only those that can afford to dip into the ATM every week on top of their monthly subscription could afford to keep a busy house open [IMG]
Thus, she's right, the goal of being a top skill house has been taken from the game unless you can afford to financially suppliment it

    [/ QUOTE ]

Drains in this sense are anything that makes a person spend the e.m.u.'s that they make. The maid, the gardener, the repairman, filling fridges and buffet, uploading custom content, etc. etc. etc. It's been said over and over that when players utilize these drains enough and money is out of the economy, then payouts can go up. This is one of the reasons I just shake my head when I see a house that doesn't have a maid. That is a very inexpensive drain per sim, but would make a great impact if players that had houses would uniformally use them.......same goes for gardeners.

  29. I create/generate or make more money than I spend. Without drains too much money is in the economy and we get inflation. The more money there is, the more things cost. Sure. we all started with nothing...but nobody stays at nothing for very long.

    Pizza? Money objects? jobs?
None of them pay anything like enough to run a house on.
The only reason money is accumulating is that people cant afford to buy even a plot of land!
No-one is going to buy anything that is so disproportianate to possible income, so as things stand, theres no way the economy will shrink, it will simply stay stagnated with a lot of frustrated people not being able to do anything.

Don't know which properties you visit then Brewton, I have yet to see one that doesn't use all 'the drains' to which you are referring!

I have to agree with those that feel disappointed. Although I'm still spending a lot of hours playing, when the lag isn't too bad and the city isn't closed for maintenance! I do sit here wondering what is this all for? Seems to me that EA do just wish to extract more cash from our pockets, they've made 'everything' just too expensive! Generally you skill to enable you to earn more money at your job or in a money house. It used to be nice to craft items after a hard days work skilling away. That option has been taken from us too as its far too expensive to craft and you wouldn't stand a hope in hells chance of selling it in a shop at a profit!

Something definately needs to be done with the search map. As it is at the moment, unless you're in the top 100 (thats if people can be bothered to scroll down below the first 20) you don't stand a chance of visitors, particularly if you're in one of the original cities! I can spend hours in my FF or CC property and moreorless guarantee I will not receive a visitor. As I've said before in another post, this is due to wonderful EA making it impossible to view all the cities properly on the map (un-named yellow boxes just don't do it!) and in city view from another property (which only shows you the city you're in). Quite frankly, I don't know why they bothered merging. They may as well have told us all to "pack up and leave our properties you're moving to EAland and will have to start again, oh but we'll let you keep your objects and skill locks!!!" Thanks a lot EA ... Go the Devs [IMG] (yeah right!)

we cannot deny that the developers did an outstanding work here. However, the main parts of the whole game are not yet maintained or fixed, leaving almost everyone frustrated and unable to enjoy the game. Not to forget, the new free players wont be as happy as expected and we will loose potential subscribers. I really want the game to be a huge success, just dont screw it. [IMG]

........until people get off their duffs and spend more time making money to add to what they have so that they CAN afford a lot, or objects to fill up their house, or whatever. Money CAN be made in this game, its just that it requires a significantly higher time investment to do it. People are lazy because they are used to their cushy lifestyles so now they don't want to put forth any effort, they want stuff handed to them like it used to be. Only those that have adapted and changed their thinking are starting to achieve their goals and accumulate property and objects.....everybody else is crying about how hard it is. As you can see, I have no sympathy for those people.

If you've read the boards, e.m.u. is the buzz phrase for EA-Land Monetary Unit. CherryBomb was the first person I saw use it. It's what I've started calling the game money until the new name is picked since 'simolean' is being outdated.

  37. Based on a couple of things I read in this thread:

    1) Concern for feeding guests. I understand this one. This is why I will tip appropriately, or I'll just head back to my own home lot to get a meal and green up some. Also, this may inspire "restaurants" to open up with a pay door at the front. Kind of like an "all you can eat buffet".

    2) Top 100 list. Yeah, if you aren't on the list then most won't visit you. Well, here's an idea. Don't limit yourself to the Top 100 list or search filter. Choose a red dot on the map and just go there and see what's going on. Now that to me is fun. [IMG] After that, you can cruise around in the area you are at.

    [/ QUOTE ]

If you "cruise" the dots as you say to see what's going on basically you are going to find 1-2 people in a house. If it is a skill or money house it's not even worth it to go there because you won't get anywhere. I used to go to other places but with the limited time I have to play the game, when I'm in it I need to make some progress. When money wasn't so hard to make I WOULD spend time in other houses because I knew I could make that up maybe to add to my house in another playing shift. I can't craft because I haven't got any money and as far a services or entertainment or love house all they really do there is chat because there is no money to run contests or anything. When I played before people used to have many contests but they can't afford them now. Even if they could people won't come because they are too busy skilling and trying to make money so it's a vicious circle. It might be nice to have restaurants. Say have the food there be 1/2 what it is at home or at other houses. Have the ability for only those with cooking skill to make food. Once you get a high enough cooking skill you might even be able to open a delivery service. Those sims could make food and deliver it to those who can't cook. Allowing everyone to be able to do everything in this game is what makes goals and rewards useless.

It is difficult to venture out of 'the' yellow square and explore the others that used to be cities. Even using the method CBrewton suggested, it's still not easy. The village views before the merge showed all houses in the surrounding area and you could span around to see the whole city. Not any more!

I have a job as a Swank Server, which pays quite well, just about covers the daily visit from the repairman, the maid and a meal or two!

I make pizza, jam or paint for a pittence, regardless of my fairly high skills.

I have the choice of 3 skill houses to run and I charge $2 for buffet! (shock, horror)

Any more suggestions to making a decent living in this land???

    1. Because of many, many posts, discussions and protests, on here and the blog, about the abuse and manipulation of visitor hours to get visitor bonuses.

    2. The basic financial reason....simply too much money was being 'created' (money faucet) in the game, thru visitor bonuses.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I think you have taken care most of the problems with Temp accounts not counting toward visitor hours. So restate the top 100 payouts. These houses need money just to feed people.

    2. I love the money faucet...come on the truth, you want us poor and buying money from the in game ATM's. You have gotten way more posts about how hard it is to make money now and how people are quiting because you have taken the fun out of the game. This is a game remember turn on the money faucet. We need it our little sims are faint from working so hard for so little.

So really now there is no reason to get visitor hours except to get on the top 100 so someone might come visit you? Not trying to be flip, just asking.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The short answer, is yes. [IMG]

But that is still a very important reason...just ask any store owner who is not on the list! [IMG]

    [/ QUOTE ]

BUT what is the point of being a store owner? To sell more stuff??? for what? See there is NO rewards in this game at all. Maybe if they gave special items or something but there is no reason really to DO anything in this game besides chat. Aren't games supposed to have goals? What are we playing for if not to achieve goals. If you ask me EA Land isn't better than TSO it's worse. At least I could afford to build when I was on. Now I can't even do that because it's too expensive. Someone please explain what reason there is to play and why pay $9.99 a month for it. Any other reason besides chatting.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    [/ QUOTE ]

On the other hand people like me need a store. I have been a crafter now for about 2 years and so I had a crafting house and a store to sell my crafts. We had a very good business and it was goal oriented. I really don't know what else to do besides make jams and any other money making item. I have been doing alot of teaching at the store as well. So my goals are basically set around my skills.

Don't know which properties you visit then Brewton, I have yet to see one that doesn't use all 'the drains' to which you are referring!

You took the words right out of my mouth. My skills are useless unless I want to go make 50 bucks a jam. I brought several houses here with the merge but heck, who can afford to do anything with them? These payouts are a joke really. I still think that all of these new settings do nothing more than to entice people to run to the ATM's. Think about it, if you can afford it in RL the ATM will solve all your problems.

Enjoy your money and skilling houses while you can. As their items wear out, with no money to replace them(tip jars are not being filled - most people freeload, repairing does NOT affect wear), there will be fewer and fewer till there are none. It's simple, things that are a losing proposition will just stop. Just like this game. Why should players put in their time and money to support EA making money with no kickback to them? Another thought, Hasn't this become something like Virtual Child Labor?

How true this is - I have just opened my shop, and so far I can count on my right hand how many people have visited me (mainly friends)........I really think that shop owners who dont have 7, 8, 9 accounts or more, are prejudiced to get visitors hours to get on the top 100. I spent all weekend on my lot, with very few visitors mainly because I didnt not have 4hrs plus visitors hours under my belt. I am sure, I speak for many other new shops that have opened up, that are feeling the same as me.

I have no problem with the visitors hours bonus being removed, and I think we are better off for its removal - looking back in hindsight, however, I just think that if you have one person on the property, it should show up in the map filter.
