It's been a month. What grade would you give UO:High Seas?
It's so good i didn't buy it and i'm shutting my accounts down after this month...
As far as "expansions" go, it's second to Stygian Abyss for me - probably only really down to it being a "booster", so there's less additions.
With regards the content given, for me personally, I was leaning A-/B+ direction. But, the missed potential dropped that a bit (along with the whole saltpeter thing for the first few weeks). There could have been more ships (Britannian, Elven, daemon... any group you can think of really), more variety with ship-based weapons (something like ballista and things).
Anyway, long story short, it's had a mostly positive impact on the game as I play it.
Is that suppose to be an E or a F for a choice?
When I went through school they gave grades, not just a pass/fail. An E would be a failing grade.
You should of put a choice up that said...Tried to buy the bootser but couldnt since the site isnt working properly. May change the count on the last option you gave.
When I went to school it was A, B, C, D or F... no E and no Pass/Fail. Never heard of an E before.
*EDIT* Not being snarky just stating that this is a new one to me, but I understand the concept.
I don't know where I went to school we started out in Grade School with the Pass/Fail system where E was Exceptional... and and "I" was for Needs to Improve. S was for Satisfactory.
Later we went to A, B, C, D, and F.... no E's.
D. A few easily (yes, scalis is easy he just takes time) killed bosses aren't enough to give it a higher grade. I would have given it a D- but the fishing revamp was definitely a good thing, I know people have been waiting a while for it. The boats, well, they are just too damn circular for my tastes. Farm pirates to get an orc boat to..farm more pirates? What's the point.
And the easiest way to kill scalis is with one bushido archer, a discord tamer, and one mystic mage. Colossus/dragons/constant hits from the archer will take him down every time. Bring one extra mage to EV or a character that can whirlwind and the eels are cake too. Kill him from land, box him in with boats but forget about boat cannons as they do about the same damage as an AI.
didnt buy it. very little interested me. not interested in another grind, especially on some boring useless skill. can probably buy the items in luna one day. already have the space upgrade, don't need another (yet anyway). could care less about a new ship. i barely use mine as is. i read the complaints and its a massive turn off. maybe in 6 months when i need a space upgrade or something. not a bad price for a mini expansion at all. just literally nothing interested me.
I'll give it a B-
I have done a lot but haven't tried everything out yet. I have a few observations and recommendations for changes.
My main pro of the expansion is definitely the ships. It opens up a solid platform for future expansions/boosters.
I like the sea market layout and additions.
MIBs are definitely more interesting than t-hunting to me now... that's a first.
I really like the Pirate hunting system. We have a good team and have made a fortune selling orc ships.
I am torn on the fishing quests.
I think I am approaching 10k bait and see little use for it. I haven't done much digging but I did read a blurb that specific baits give you a +3% chance of catching a rare fish as opposed to a >1% chance without it. So if I have 100 bait, I will get 3 rare fish from 100 casts using the bait as opposed to 1 rare fish in 100 casts w/o it. I dont think that's quite right from my experience, but I haven't recorded any data as I fish on alts or while sailing to the next quest.
Using the bait is a chore manually. Currently I am manually clicking the bait, targeting the pole to bait the hook, clicking the pole to cast and targeting the water I am casting in. With this process I add 4 seconds to an 8 second cycle. I could reduce this cycle with a good macro but just dont care enough to worry about it at this time.
The pies you make from rare fish are a decent set of buffs and last a fair amount of time.
Over all I like the quest structure but dislike the low drop rate of scrolls. I feel we haven't seen all possible rewards from fishing, but I am nervous the end won't justify the means.
I do not like that cancelling fishing quests dings your reputation with the mongers. But I understand it is a limitation to folks who may just continually cycle through the same quest until they get an order/destination they prefer.
Changes (click reduction):
Have the ability to equip the bait cup in your off hand that would automatically use a charge each time you cast (while it was equiped), or add a drop down menu to the pole that allows you to set it to use bait from your pack specific to the rare fish you are after.
Fishing from a boat will automatically remove you from piloting your ship.
Piloting a ship automatically dismounts you.
Lobster/crab fishing: I am at 110 fishing and it seems I get more rare lobsters and crabs now. But it could be that I have learned to be more efficient. Still I hope that increased fishing skill will lower the rate of normal crabs and lobsters we catch. I'd like to see a use for normal lobsters and crabs. I have a trading system with friends so we get along well enough filling orders.
Allow for player cooks to make fishing bait that would attract specific non-rare freshwater/ocean/dungeon fish, crabs or lobsters that you are either low on stock of or specifically fishing to finish a quest. Maybe these would make nice recipes to add to the fishing quests. Could this also be a use for normal lobsters and crabs?
Sometimes I have to ram the server line a few times to cross it.
Crossing server lines does not automatically close your pack.
Using an orc ship will automatically plow through dolphins, water elementals and sea serpents but slightly damage the ship.. after all the ship does have those handy blades on the bow.
Increase the duration of fish pie buffs to 30 minutes.. or death.
Increase using rare fish bait chance to 10%. Maybe not now but please keep it in mind when the system starts to age.
Allow us to make trophies from all rare fish.
I like that only +10's are the largest fishing scroll to be found to date. I just want to see more of them.
The ability to secure containers inside the hold.
Allow us to move fishing crates around inside the hold. Even a drop down to move the crate (forcing the crate to randomly change location) would be sufficient.
Stygian Abyss: Sea level!
Althought it had the potential to be the best expansion ever, I gave it a C. Reasons are:
I would have liked the fishing changes, but I don't fish anymore because the quests are broken.
I would have loved the new ships and sea battles, but preparing the cannon ammo and collecting resources for the repairs afterwards are too time consuming for me.
So basically, I like the content but don't use most of it.
I tryed most of it during the beta TC and decided not to buy it based on that.
Give it a B.
This times two. The same CC that I use for every transaction from groceries to car/insurance payments isn't good enough for EA/Mythic.
Gave it a C..
Felt to much like a publish then expansion..
Plus half the things are bust or bugged at the moment..
They need add alot more to the ocean in UO..
Its such a large area going to waste..
More mobs...sunken city..bunch of things can be added...if they dont have any clues just have a servey here on stratics...
I gave it a "B" -- overall I like it very much. (and I feel EA has done some some homework)
- New boats & privates: good fun. I wish more rewards can be added soon other than the orc-ship
- Fishing power scrolls: I haven't bothered with the quest yet, because from reading the posts, I feel something is not quite right at the moment with the system.
- SOS: good
- The two new boss: bad. Most feedback from friends is that the bosses lack of creativity. "Hard to kill" doesn't mean the boss is good. Slasher and Stygian Dragon, on the contrary, are good examples, because they are "dynamic".
It gets a big fat A from me
awesome stuff for a tenner!
immense stuff guys
