Great Idea: We need a guild symbol add-on like the guild stones.

One of the things many people, including myself liked about guildstones was that it was a nice symbol for each guild that could be placed. It made guild halls more meaningful.

So I say lets add in a craft-able guild symbol. Be it a guildstone, banner, etc.

A new guildstone would be nice as long as it doesn't look like the old ones. Maybe some addidional add-ons like someone could walk up and leave a message to Emmis-GM or even a way to talk to online guildmembers.

I agree... I would also like to see it -- whatever it becomes -- at least have the same funcitonality when double-clicked as if you'd clicked your own "Guild" button. To me, removing the symbolic guildstone and turning the system into the button-only interface that it is was the death of welcoming rituals and symbolic welcomes to a guild. Now it's all "okay, let me click you here" when it used to be, "Hey, come visit our guildhouse, and I'll stone you."

Do you remember why they went away from Guildstones? I do. In the days of old, when knights were bold you had to go into someone's house to get guilded. Boom! You are dead and looted, and they don't get a count.

Yes, Guildstones are nice. I love them. I have 5 in my castle. I even have one for a Guild one of my chars is the GM. There should be a guild stone in game, but it should be decorative, and I believe each member of a guild should get one upon joining to proudly display their alliance in their homes. If a member gets booted or resigns from a guild that stone should immediately disapper unless they have another char in that guild.

And if you want funcitonality, have it bring up the same meny you get by using the guild button on your paperdoll, but without all of the features. Can't add, or modify, just view. Or let it be a message board linked to all the other guild stones belonging to other members. Or possibly, let it send IM's to individuals in the guild that are online...

Click stone, select member, and send them and let them respond from where ever. Oh, I forgot, IM's are new. This is not Second Life. You can't do that. Not without being in a party.

That's an interesting revision of history. Guildstones didn't go away for that reason at all. In fact, your guildmates can now simply guild you in the middle of Britain, kill you, kick you from the guild, and they still don't get a murder count.

The move away from guildstones happened because they were, at the same time, revamping the guild interface, and someone decided that rather than require a guild to be formed around a house (required for a guildstone), they would have it as a button.

I'm not asking them to return to those days, I'm simply asking that they bring back a guildstone like device that works the same way as the Guild button, not replaces it. For those who don't care about pomp and circumstance, use the Guild button and be done with it. Those of us who want to use a guildstone may do so.

Being murdered by your guildmates won't change in either case.
I disagree with this idea. I think your own pride in your guild comes from guild colors (some still do that), your guild tag, and your guild title. The guildstone should be central to a guild that wants it.

Why would it be necessary to have it have no real function? While repeating functionality, basically my idea for it is that it would react as though the person just clicked their guild button. Same functionality, and in fact, same menu. But it would allow ceremony around a guildstone.

Could you be a bit more snarky in response?

    Or even \ ? :)

I think it'd nice to incorporate some fancy new features into a guildstone, such as :

Offline Guild message functionality, so Emmisaries/Leaders can place a message that all guild will recieve when logging in.

Perhaps even some kind of 'guild quest' type system where you can allocate tasks to guild members, eg :
    Kill 5 Balrons
Drop 10 treasure maps onto the stone
    Gain 120 Magery
Kill a specific char in Fel
    etc.!

    And then :
See which members have completed the task and retrieve items the guildies dropped on the stone.

Perhaps even when setting the task you could drop a reward item for each player, or the first to complete the task!

    I reckon that'd be fun :)

Zayin, Sorry, my point wasn't clear enough.

I meant for someone outside the guild a way to find/talk to someone inside the guild.

That is a pretty interesting idea. I'm not sure the kill specific char in fel would be definate, since character names aren't unique (meaning that a noob char with the required name could be made and slain in fel).

This is a little off topic, but...
The really interesting thing about this idea is that it could be used like an anti-vendor (in the sense of being opposite of what a player run vendor does). Instead of selling items, it could be used to buy items. ex. a crafter could leave a request for 1000 iron ingots, and that they would like to pay 10000gp. When someone leaves the 1000 iron ingots, they get a check for 10k. The anti-vendor owner may retrieve the 1000 iron ingots, or it gets transferred to their bank. An additional option could be for the player with the 1k ingots to offer the 1k ingots for 15k. The buyer could except or not except the offer. If the offer is not excepted then the 1k ingots would be returned to player that made the offer.

This would do additional harm to what little 'community' is left, but it would allow for transfers that may not otherwise happen.

This was just an idea, and I haven't bothered to think about all the possible exploits for storage limits and such.

I did not say that was the only reason they took them out of the game. I do know that there were people that used that to kill unsuspecting people looking for guilds. I know on PAC it happened alot.

As far as being snarky, I am sure I could be worse. But right now I am rather disappointed with this game. Bugs that were supposed to be fixed in the last published werent, like Nighteyes getting stuck. Bugs that have been in game for years such as the Bridge were also supposed to be fixed. Hats not showing on Elves, I thought that was a feature. I liked it. Not being able to stack things on top of each other in houses, well, I have not seen it addressed.

I was a QA/Software tester for a large corporation. I set up the QA\Tech Support departments for their new division. Bugs bother me. They always have. Why do you think that the Pinto is no longer around? It had issues, and Ford didn't address them. (That and it was plain ugly)

Dermott came up with a great idea years ago about carpet tiles. It took them 8 years to implement it. And yet, arbitrarily there are things being fixed that we thought were features, that for the most part we didn't want fixed, and things that need to be fixed aren't. I remember when they did away with guild stones, and how it upset alot of people.

I also remember promises that Tamers would gain skill through normal game play, by controlling high level pets. Not through repetitive taming of Bulls or other weak things such as ridgebacks. At GM + taming, 120 lore, I should gain off of things actually worth taming for library collections such as mares, ki-rin, or dragons.

Actually I keep that layout on the first floor of my house. Ask folks that I talk to often and I refer to it as my "Shrine to Sherry". I know a couple of groups on Chessy that do Guild Meetings at various locations, and had those chairs laid out if they ever wanted to come visit.
