Tamer would be the easiest of the best to handle. (pain to train though, use jewelry)

    He said effective, not easiest.

    Bard

    Music 120
    Discord 120
    Provocation 120
    Stealth 80(100)
    Hiding 100
    Magery 80(110)
    Spellweaving 100

    Bauble for +10 magery
    Shadowdancer legs for +20 stealth
    Crystalline ring +20 magery

This build can get all peerless keys solo and can kill anything short of a peerless solo as well.

Of course it's not a wammy or sampire but they have their limits as well.

    Different things for different situations.

I wouldn't take a dexxer to do Melisande, but I wouldn't take a tamer to do Paroxysmus. (for example).

  8. The most effective template is one that you learn to use properly.

I've seen someone solo the DF using a mage with a good mage weapon in about 30 minutes, and a bard solo two Dark Fathers in about 15 minutes. A well played and equipped sampire can solo most peerless, and a good tamer does almost as well... almost. I've seen a solo necro-tamer wade through a champ spawn, without breaking a sweat.

The template and equipment are important, but the person behind all that is most important part of any character.

i think archers or tamers or even straight mages or provo/mages all are good easy to beat up on anything type chars..ill take my archer and tamer anywhere to fight anything and do any peerless or champsjust fine...for me archers get more drops too... i like bush and chiv on my archer an lots of mr lmc stuff so i can use lightning strike an specials constantly..easy char and rocks anything

Granted, but if he doesn't know he's not going to be able to use the most effective template to its optimal ability (how could he when he doesn't even know what it is), so it would be most advantageous for him to know what the most effective template is that does take tons of experience.

Besides, Tamers are at least in the top 2 most effective templates anyway.

If you really want one character that can totally master PVM, you'll need a lot of Soulstones!

    Necro - Tamer
No doubt, the greater dragon along with WoD if you can fit, etc and heals... Effective secure and all that.
Havent played em myself, but I play a full chiv/archer/tamer
    100 anat
    120 Archery
    110 tame
    110 lore
    90 vet (enchant bandaids)
75 (currently 62 because of jewels) chiv
    115 tact going for 120
some meditation, wichever high skill jewels

And those necro tamers slay way faster than me!
And they solo just about every crit there is

I seem to remember even white wyrms getting alot better damage after you corpse skin the target.

Also with what you've listed that's 720 points. Not sure how you fit med in that template

WWs do 50% cold and 50% physical damage for their regular attacks. (GDs are 100% phys)

Corpse Skin: "Transmogrifies the flesh of the target creature or player to resemble rotted corpse flesh, making them more vulnerable to Fire and Poison damage, but increasing their resistance to Physical and Cold damage."

Corpse Skin wouldn't be very helpful except for affecting fire damage spells.

    +5lore+5 tame on talisman
    71 skill total ring/brace
    +20 archery hunters

and still looking for better jewlery
must use lotion for physical, to get all 70ies.
I miss out on either dci or hci (depends on wich jewels I wear at this stage)
But I hardly get hit from other than teh odd splash/paragon gone wild, and pots usually save the day!

I'ma say archer/chiv/tamer. Highly versatile, high-damaging template. Gotta be sharp to make the most of it, though. If you're wanting something a little less complicated, necro/mage/tamer or weaver/mage/tamer are pretty good.

  18. There seems to be someone always saying, "Tamers are overpowered!" or "Archers are overpowered!" or some other play style. At least for PvM, this shows me that while it may not be perfect, there are least are many play styles that seem to compete well with each other. Everyone should find something to their liking for PvM.

I will rephrase this, "The most effective template for you, is the template that is most natural for your decision and problem solving techniques"

Often what I see in MMORPG's are round peg's trying desperately to fit into a square hole. I have yet to see a case were this leaves the player happy .... over a period of time.

If you can think like a Bard/Archer then that is the Template you should play. Think like a Necro/SpellWeaver/Mage? Then that is the template you should play.

Think like is defined as being able to understand the nature and characteristic in an instinctual manner (simplified: it comes easy to you).

    Best pvm template...

I would say the best solo pvm character is a necro warrior or some variant there of. Sampire wammy either archery or not the massive life leech is the best thing a player that likes to get big dmg hits and quick kills in.

    Bushido 120
    Weapon skill 120
    Necromancy 99
Either Parry or spirit speak 100+
    tactics 100+
anatomy / or resist spells 100+

I tend to change my warrior often but the skills above combined with a good outfit is damn strong. The skills are important to have right but the equipment is very important. Best pvm weapons in my opinion would be Leaf blade, Radiant scimitar, Diasho, Ornate Axe, Comp Bow, Heavy X bow, A good warrior is hard to master but very impressive if done. Can solo most peerless and can take on massive mobs solo champ spawns and just kick ass.

But i so agree with the post about soul stones

15 full stones and i love being able to make a character into anything i want when i need it.

I've said this for a few years now and I still stick to it. The "Sampire" is the greatest PvMer.

Lots of good temps out there but it all depends on the player.

Echoing others, I really can't emphasize enough that the "ideal" template depends your particular play style. My sampy rocks PvM...but I just don't really like melee. Just not my style. Definitely go with a template you enjoy playing over a template that's heralded as "uber."

Template: Tamer (with music/discord if you can fit it in) and enough magery to cast the gate spell.

Suggested Skills: Taming(120),Lore(120),Vet(120),Magery(100 or less if you use gate scrolls),Meditation(100),Eval Int(100).

Armor: Resists are largely unimportant for the tamer. The mods should be the forefront in the mind of the player here. Mana regen,Spell damage increase, lower mana cost and of course as much luck as you can get on armor so the better loot will drop is key.

Thank you for mentioning this. I get so exhausted hearing new players talk about "all 70s suit" for their mage toons. 40 lmc, 10-or-so mr, and 2/6 (4/6 for weaver) are VASTLY more important than resists. You'll be fine with low 60s.

I agree. If a tamer,or a bard mage for that matter, is getting hit alot, somethings wrong.

Way too many variables to give an all-around best answer. As others have said, knowing how to play whatever template you're playing and having the right gear for it is crucial. Also important variables: are you soloing or playing in groups? if in groups, are you trying to go for best group utility or top damage? are you doing champs, peerless, or something else? which peerless? which champ? is your goal to wade through said mobs the fastest, the safest, or some combination of the two? do you have unlimited money to build a suit, or are you looking for something that can rock on a budget?

    Etc.

My personal two favorites are disco/peace tamer and necro/weaver tamer; the former for peerless and the latter for champs. I also have a sampire and ABC archer on my roster, but they don't see a lot of action these days; I think this is less because they are inferior than because they both require a lot of clicking and keypresses and I'm getting older and trying to stave off RSI.

Low 60s is fine. 40s are not (for me). Some tamers do run in suits with resists in the 40s, and that's just not fun, even with peace. If you know what you're doing building your suit (and have some gold to spend), you can get in the 60s and still have all the other stuff you need for casting.

personally. for me taming is just a little boring.. not exciting.. fun.. ect...

the template i like and intend to be able to kill alot of high end monsters with is my sampire..

100 necro *89 but with jewels for now*
    120 parry
    120 bushido
    120 weapon skill
    100 tactics
    100 anatomy
    60 chiv..

i have also seen people destroy monsters with the template below.. but i couldnt do it..
below is more for getting keys. group work
    sampire for solo
    regular bush dexxer

    120 weap skill
    120 parry
    120 bushido
    tactics
    anatomy
    90 healing

dont feel like working out the tactics and anat

for the sampire template.. you really have to have some awesome gear...

This template has the most damage output potential.

    120 Peace
    120 Music
    120 Discord
    120 Animal Lore
    120 Vet
    77.1 Taming....

Assuming your 4 year vet and 35 points of magery Jewelry / tally.

    77.9 magery.

    andddddd 5 Frenzied Ostards.

No their not tanks, yes they die, but man can they put out some serious damage to a discorded Greater that is peaced.

If you still want to tame Greaters, just go with 85 taming, and 35 points of jewelry / tally, that you switch out for magery when not controlling greater and so on.

Fishing, Item Identification, Forensic Evaluation, Camping, Cooking, Snooping, and Begging. This template is a BEAST!!!

Then again, I enjoy the ABC template because I don't want to rely on my Tamer template too often. I dig variety. :danceb:

    100 lore
    100 hearding
    120 music
    120 provo
    80 hiding

or if you have more than one character slot, drop the taming and lore, and get disco, and magery

go to a safe spot near where you want to hunt, and release a dragon, tame another, release, repeat.

continue this untill you have how many dragons you think you need

depends what you're looking to kill, certain peerlesses make tamers useless, i find bushido chiv archers pretty good for some things

P.S. - the abbreviation PVM also known as player versus monster is not used much anymore, people now use the term PVE player versus environment
