Hey there, I need some help with a little issue my guild is having.

The guild is usually quite active, full of talking people and many that don't. Well today there is one guy who used the thieves guild disguise kit to hide his name. He has used several disguises and has stolen items as well as PKd many guild members, in between kills uses stealthing. He talks in guild chat and his disguise name pops up and we have absolutely no way of finding out who this guy is because of so many members online. His disguise name is not listed on the guild menu. When we do a head count, he vanishes from existence until the guild gets more active.

I reported to a GM two times but nothing. Anyone know how to get him out of the guild?

Watch the online list better. Take snapshots when hes killing people. Thats about all.

Anything short of completely clearing the guild and re-enlisting the active members would be a difficult thing to do.Perhaps add those players that do not have stealth/hiding/stealing in their template.

Keep an eye on the members who are online and keep track of those you know for sure. Use forensic ID. When someone gets killed or stolen from look at the list, eliminate those who you know for sure isn't the thief and narrow it down. Kick out the likely target.

    Hehe. Wasn't me :p

I am in the last guild I will ever be in. If anything ever happens to RXH and it disbands I will just fly solo. Highly unlikely as we only have about 3-6 actual members and are all damn near family. If it were me there would be no stealing going on, because you can hand me a 500m item, ask me to hold it for x amount of time, and it would be handed back at the right time. Reputation means way more to me than pixel gold. but I digress....

    As to the OP's question....

Simplest answer I can give you on this. Get everyone that is online in your guild roster to talk in guild chat. Even if it's to say NO. Whom ever does not appear in guild chat as talking.. kick their butt outta the guild. When a disguise kit/incognito is on, the name changes in chat but not in the roster. So one person will be showing as online, but will not be speaking in guild chat. That is your guilty party. If everyone that is shown in your guild roster speaks in guild chat, then it is not your guild that has an infiltrator, but another guild in the alliance.

What if person X is afk and they dont answer? Boot them, better safe than sorry. Can always add them back after all the drama is done.

Hope it helps and good luck.

    *edit*
Had an additional thought. If the char name actually chaged in the guild roster after using a kit or incog, as in my opinion it should, it would be easier to find the infiltrator. One could simply scroll down the list until they found a name that is not a normal guild member and boot away. Just sayin' :bdh:

Thanks for the replies everybody. We did do a head count and ask everyone to say something. If it was me doing the murders then I would swap characters really fast. I did not have a list of names on standby to check if someone swaps characters, it also gets tough when you have 4 pages of online people. I really wish there was a way we could find people like this. The guy is barely noticeable. He targets mainly mules and killed maybe 7 people while they were alone. He must be near gm hiding and stealth because we never see him. I'd hate to kick 3/4 the guild.

Check the PM I sent ya

  11. If the UO Herald team would get off their behinds and fix the UO Herald guild roster pages, you could go into your guilds roster and find him. It would display each character and what their highest skills are and BINGO you could know who to kick.

But that of course that would take "effort" on their behalf and we all know we can't have that.

How often do you promote guildmates? Is it possible that this person may still be a ronin? If so, how many ronins do you have in the online at one time?

Edit: Another idea. A disguise kit always gives a character a generic NPC name and gives them typical white grey hair (unless they always dye it afterwards). You might be lucky and they may have a personal bless deed on a piece of armor they have so if you find them wandering you might be able to look at their equipment and find a piece of equipment entitled "blessed for..."

If they have their guild tag up too you could also try assigning titles and catch them that way.

Question: The name changes in general chat, but does the id number?
I've never kept track of those numbers, are they consistent each time you log in, or are they assigned for the session?

I had a thought, I may be on completely the wrong track but.
What would happen if you targetted the disguise name in chat and put it on your ignore list? Would it stay the same or would the system know who the char really was and change when the disguise wore off?

I just went to see if it was possible to do a name change in TC but the name change token isn't one that is given with the "give tokens" command :(

oki, I logged a char into test center and created a chat channel. id on the char was 8904788
I cast incognito, which kicked her from chat - I made a new chat channel. id on the char with new name was 8904788. I waited till incognito wore off then closed the client.
Restarted, logged in, made yet another chat channel. id with fresh client start and new channel 8904788.
So. Maybe list the guild members' id numbers in chat?
I don't have a char in the thieves guild and owning a disguise kit to test that I'm afraid.

If you can get to the guild listing in MyUO (will require going to the Japanese MyUO, since the one for the Western shards are still down), it's really easy.

    1. First of all, make a list of all guild members appearing in the MyUO roster.

    2. Keep the guild page bookmarked (or guilds, if you are part of an alliance, noting all the active names in each).

    3. When a guild PK strikes, immediately go check the MyUO guild page.
    a. A person incognito or using a disguise kit will have their FAKE name listed in the guild roster of MyUO if its updating every few minutes occurs while the disguise is in effect.
    b. Similarly, the time between MyUO updates is such that it is likely that fake name will remain on the list for several minutes after the crime - ESPECIALLY if they log the character off.

    4. Compare the rosters - the name that is missing, replaced by an NPC name, is your murderous traitor.

Back when MyUO was working off the US uo.com site, that's how I caught the Alliance PK that one of our minor guilds added without our knowledge.

If you need to find a character...

We've dealt with this a lot in UWF. Best bet is to FE the corpse before the owner of the corpse recovers his/her body. FE will tell you who killed it and who looted it.

Also, make a note of everyone who was online at the time. Next time it happens, make another list. Compare the two.

Lastly, you can ask folks to speak up in guild chat or call an "all hands" meeting. Anyone who is unwilling to attend or speak in chat, for fear of demonstrating their use of a disguise kit or incognito, is suspect.

When it comes to FE on corpses, do you have to be a high level to get that info? Or is it something you are able to do after a few attempts with the JOT Human deal?

I'm not sure, tbh. For IDing thieves, you fail two out of three times at GM FE. Not sure about FEing a corpse.

There are a couple of things I'd try.

Firstly, get him banned from a house if you can. Then you can summon every member of the guild to that building and when one can't cross the threshold, you have your PKer/thief.

Also, aren't thieves guild members still lootable in Tram? That might be another way to find them out.

Check guild members in MyUO.com to see their skills. If you spot anyone with stealth/stealing then you'll be able to narrow down suspects.

Think soulstones made this route a crap shoot tho. It used to take a day or so to update new skills on a char there etc. Someone that was slick about it could just keep stoning the skill on and off to avoid detection.

Either way, I wish they would get MyUO back up and running again.

Also try looking at at the members armor ,shadow dancers burgalars bandanna stealth on jewels etc. also look at karma on your player thieves usually have more of a netural karma where necro and posioners have low karma, stealth archers etc usuall end up on the higher side of karma..

Good advice. If he is a thief, also note:

    1. They tend to have negative karma and low fame.
    2. They are often unarmed (can't steal with anything in your hands)
    3. They often (stupidly) wear burglar's bandana, shadow dancer leggings, etc. Some have the sense to change clothes, but MyUO will show what they normally wear and can often reveal their identity.
    4. They often dress in crappy armor to appear as a new character, but their character will have used expensive hair dye (blaze or glacial).

    E.g.,

    Player in game:

    Same player on MyUO:

    Same player FE'd:

Forensic Eval works 100% of the time on your own corpse. FYI. Having been in a RPPvP guild for MANY years I can tell you that.

Using the EC will show you every piece of armor your attacker is wearing... as well as all your guildmates. So next few meetings I'd be checking into everything everyone is wearing. Also get a list of what is being stolen. Check this with what they are wearing. The disguise kit will not disguise the thief's armor. He/She will be wearing it all the time...

Those of your members in the EC will be able to SEE exactly what they are wearing. I seriously doubt this person is PKing in nothing but a robe.

Sounds quite familiar. A chicken who kills craftsmen and AFK banksitters. If you have a new additioin to the guild in the last few months, and he transferred to Atl from a different shard (Legends) PM me.

I can't imagine having a guild member you cannot trust, in my guild on Europa, the majority of players including myself are so close we share account details with each other. Can it really be so hard to identify the bad egg?

Yes it can. Not every guild, especially large ones, are as "close" as you and your guildmates are.

If the guild part of MyUO could get brought back up (even though character search works on the Japanese MyUO site, Guild lookup is broken just like on the US side), the way I mentioned before worked a lot better than trying to go by character skills and profession.

It appears that while MyUO only updated character stats and equipment about once a day, it pulled the names for the guild rosters fresh by character ID whenever you requested the roster - giving a window to see just who is missing from the normal roster, replaced by a generic name, as Disguise kit names were passed on to MyUO while active - especially if the character logged out while still disguised.

So, you could catch a thief a lot more quickly doing a comparison of lists a lot more successfully than checking each name for skills.

Currently, as even the Japanese site is using who knows how old character info (it's showing my mage holding her book, and she's had her fishing pole in hand for 3 weeks, at least), even it's not any use.

  30. Too bad the chat id number is not listed when attacked and also not in the guild listings. that would solve the issue.
