I dunno if this has been addressed or not, I couldn't find a post. But, are any other tamers having an issue with tamer gameplay right now? My tamer has been sitting armorless with only taming, vet+lore on her and I finally put her archery back on and got her all suited up, took a while to get it just right, the way I had her before.. and went out to play with hiryus and my cu acted like its paws were glued to the ground. I'd tell her to attack and she'd make an "agreeable" noise, not a snarl, and was wonderfully happy, but would only attack it if I dragged it over to her. She couldn't move from the tile she was on. While I was fending off an elite ninja + lesser hiryu myself, she started getting pwned by an oni and couldnt move or defend herself. Kinda disappointing :cursing:

This sounds like an old bug - feed your pet and it should be back to normal.

Its an effing annoying bug and has been getting me dirtnapped repeatedly the last month while spawning in fel with my guild.

Right now I feel like a two-bit crappy mage with only 400 skill points which actually work.

Feeding it fixes the pet for one or two commands, then it goes back to being slow and not following orders- SUPER annoying.

We spend a lot of skill points for being a tamer, the least that could happen is it could work properly. I don't have time to feed a pet while red archers are shooting me down or trying to escape, I need it to act correctly.

Has anyone ever bugged this in UO before?

A pet slowing down drastically is different to the bug where they're frozen.

What pets are affected by this slowdown and what are your real and adjusted taming/lore skills?

  5. Theres a bug right now where they'll follow you and when you tell them to kill they stick to the spot, logging out and back in usually fixes it.

    Hi Wenchy,

While this has been going on my adjusted Taming/Lore has been 112-115 Taming and 110 Lore. Plenty to have control over pets.

I've noticed it on my Mare, my Rune Beetle, and my Greater Dragon. I don't hunt enough with my Cu to have noticed it.

What happens is I will tell my pet to follow me and it will follow me at some super slow stealth speed. When lored it will even say "Wonderfully happy".

I'll feed it, and it'll speed up. But after a couple more commands, it'll go back to being slow again.

Also in PVP, I noticed a couple instances where I would tell my Beetle/Mare to attack and they would go REALLY slow. We're talking stealth walking speed slow. Slower than someone else's pet I saw engaged in PVP (A lesser Hiryu belonging to someone w/Bushido), and I'm not sure why. Even after pet stop, pet follow me, loring to determine they were wonderfully happy, feeding them, etc, they absolutely would not at least move around at my speed.

Pets are so unresponsive and buggy, it's very frustrating to spend 300+ skill points and have them not even work, given the limitations of pet functionality to begin with....

    Thanks

I'm sure it's not the pets which are causing your problems, it's a bug which seems to crop up when you're using skill items for control. The reason I was asking about your real skill and adjusted was to see if you matched the pattern I'd seen with this behaviour on my newbie tamers.

I tend to associate slow pet movement with pet control issues - either when I'm trying to get gains on cu sidhe without the proper jewel on, or I don't yet have enough real skill for 99% control and I'm boosting a bit with a jewel. If I'm really close to 99% real skill control I see the slowdown very rarely, but when my newbies started out on cu sidhe it was cropping up regularly.

What I'd suggest you do is go to the calculator page here on Stratics and punch in your real skill details, check the control chance button and check each pet you're having problems with. Then it's probably a case of using PvP pets that you can fully control until you can get your base skill up where it needs to be for the others.

So slow/unresponsive pets, even though your effective taming/lore is where it should be, is caused by not having the real skill needed? Just like you need 100 trained spirit speak to see ghosts, you can't add it in items?

i can switch jewelry around and fix that, just wondering if that's confirmed or not by other players. And also if it's a bug which will get fixed, or if it's intended.

    Thanks

I've noticed it happening with lowland bouras that I've used with tamers that have far more real taming and lore skill than is required to control these things.

I think this miserable behavior is caused by the pets being commanded to get to a spot they can't get to. I think we have a lot of new terrain problems since the KR client was introduced and work started on adjusting areas of the world to accommodate flying gargoyles.

Remember when we went through a period of seeing so many messages that said "your pet can't see that"? Those messages seem to have stopped. But now we have pets whose feet seem to be glued to the ground. Some developer probably got tired of the complaints and threw that message out the window, fixed the code so pets still say they're wonderfully happy when you give them a command they can't obey, but didn't address the underlying problems.

We've still got terrain issues because our characters are still inundated with "you can't see that" messages when trying to vet a pet from one tile away. We also seem to have pets who get tired of their owner telling them to get to a mob that's behind the owner and/or behind another pet. They do the best they can, but after a while they really aren't happy about it, in spite of the coding that makes the lore gump say they're "wonderfully happy" just because they heard their stupid owner give them one more impossible command.

If we all used our pets mostly or only in Fel, maybe we wouldn't see so much of this behavior. Our pets would give up much quicker trying to push through to get to something and just go around. Or WE would be more conscious of the issue and not expect this of them.

It seems to be a glitch where sometimes the game doesn't register that you've got the skill items on and it doesn't calculate your modified skill correctly. There certainly hasn't been anything in patch notes to suggest that skill items don't count for pet control. So this is certainly a bug.

Often I've found that adding another jewel that I'd forgotten to equip fixed the problem. And the same pet will do this one day and the next I have no problem. The reason I've linked it to real skill is that whenever my tamers are at the real skill level to control their pets, I never have this issue. My main tamer for example has never experienced it and she's at 120/120. I haven't had it manifest on a tamer who didn't need skill items for some control.

This is purely my own experience with multiple tamers and their pets, but without word from the devs I'm not sure what other conclusion/solution to suggest. You could always try out your tamer on test centre and see if you can reproduce the bug and solution there, but that's the best answer I can give you. Also try using pets that you have 99% real skill control and see if the bug crops up. If it does then I'd appreciate knowing about it, because it means my theory is kinda borked lol.

  12. I have experienced this bug with several different pets while hunting silver serpents in Ter Mur (and only in Ter Mur). It has happened with my cu, gd, and white wyrm. My real skill lvls are 120 lore, 117.6 vet, and 109.7 tame (w/o jewels). Thank goodness it hasn't happened somewhere dangerous...yet.
