Help from the Devs regarding changes to ROT

Discussion in 'UO Siege Perilous' started by Bruin, Jul 23, 2010.

?

Regarding changes to ROT (most likely short term), would you rather:

Poll closed Jul 30, 2010.
  1. Turn off ROT Completely

    7.1%
  2. Turn off the daily skill gain cap

    92.9%
  1. Bruin

    Bruin Guest

(Made a typo, second option should be 'Turn off' not 'Turn ofg')

Straight from the Devs - they have stated:

That's cool but what about factions? I mean it only took them a day to jack the prices up 5x as the cost of prodo.

That's pretty much why no one is playing because they can't afford to compete.

Remove timer. It would suck to lose rot. Regular skill gain system is too tedious for me.

I say leave well enough alone. This is Uinique to Siege. Otherwise this would be just another shard like the rest.

I voted to Turn off the daily skill gain cap however.

Meh, gaining skill does zero to enhance the enjoyment of the game. Especially for those of us who have been playing since 98. Less of it you have to do, the more time you have to actually play.

From a fresh new to shard 'Point of view' , The best would be to remove daily cap.
It's really something that hold you back, without a proper reason as it is today.

Siege is still one of a kind, and the daily cap is not something that add difficulty or anything, it just makes people play less until the char is something you can run around with?

Tumbs up for Cap OFF , Voted.

Oops. Looks like I'm the only one who voted to turn it completely off. Just know, either way it doesn't matter to me.

Let me know when you guys propose something that will bring back PvP-And so much for polling the other suggestions and nothing being done to them, even though we already know it's an over night fix for one of em'. =)

I don't think giving people a free ride to skill gains is going to help anything. It just puts the joke on those people who actually put in their time to get their skills.

ROT was here when Siege wasn't dead, and that is even before the alacricities and SOTs - which already provide an easier way past ROT.

Personally, I think the time/work in gaining skills makes a person more likely to stay. If skill gain is disposable, so will be the new people as they won't have a real investment of time made and be more likely to leave at any indifference.

Maybe it will end up being a good thing, but I wish there was a "give us a better choice" vote.

times have changed since then you either gotta adapt to get more poeple or continue playing by yourself it really is that simple

I recently built a character on Siege because I have become bored on regular shards. But the fact of the matter is, after over 12 years of playing on and off, I have no urge to spend months building a character only to have the rest of the player base leave. After seeing the amount of players leaving Siege in the last few weeks, I don't see many people risking spending that amount of time building a character just to play by themselves.

The two things that have always kept me away from Siege is RoT, and needing to have an extra account for a house.

you still have to do the same time in training. just now you can do more longer times, when you want to do them.

But we all voted on this Blackrock idea which would have at least caused player interaction. With this change, we will all still be in our own little bubbles filling our soulstones faster...alone.

With this change, Blackrock will no longer be worthwhile as well as SOT's becoming pretty much worthless as I can just wait a few minutes and get my pts again.

Well, as already stated its meant to only be a quick switch to be put in for the next publish. Guessing that the blackrock idea would have taken a bit more work, since it was some time ago.

We should just be grateful we're getting any attention :/

Actually, even without this, I think this publish has something for Siege - the new treasure hunting changes. With an influx of new alacrity scrolls for people training.

I've been trying to fit in some testing so that I can update Stratics, even the level 1s have a chance of containing a scroll.

As long as this is a prelude to other things they are going to do that are needed... it's a great idea.

Say all our problems were fixed tomorrow... like how we risk more in PvM but are rewarded the same. RoT would have limited this communities ability to "heal" itself from all the members it's lost.

Holy crap. I actually agree 100% with Draxous. *shudders*

I think they should do the advanced character tokens on Siege at the same time as this ROT change. It can't be that hard to make those active on Siege.

In their defense, there is no real point putting in the patch notes for Test Center or Origins, as it has nothing to do with those shards.

I'm just hoping that when its published to all shards soon we'll have a footnote or confirmation from Cal.

Acually i would PREFER it in the patch notes, since people might go A-HA! and then come join us here ;) Could just say

    -Siege Perilous
RoT Daily skillcap has been removed.

Oh well! Still hoping to see the change happen at all!

I wouldn't except it to be in either. Had nothing to do with them. Would only probably end up confusing the majority and UHall will be spammed with "F*** what is this ROT s***?" etc etc :D They get confused easily over at UHall lol

I will be disappointed if we get no word of it after all shards are updated.

Not to sure if would get many people interested. Many might have no idea what ROT is, and those on other shards who do know but never be persuaded.

But i guess you are right.. But still! The change itself is shortterm help for the shard, which include getting more people here, and get them to stay :p

Actually, Bruin and I chose you and Forsaken for a "meeting of the minds". After the initial list of suggestions the community approved and Bruin sent were shot down, we wanted to add someone from each of the main guilds/alliances to represent the shard as a whole, instead of submitting a new list to Cal on our own. You were more than a fly on the wall. Everyone there had great ideas and it was a very respectful discussion of ideas.

I just wish some of the other ideas made the cut for this publish. It seems like the two least helpful ideas were picked. I don't have a lot of faith that these changes are going to help much, at this point in time, when our shard is in such serious trouble. Hopefully Cal will stick to his word and put in some serious effort toward helping Siege "after July".

Hmmmm... Whaddya know? It's August 2nd!

Interesting. I was under the impression you, bruin and sakey were chosen by the community to represent our interests. I didn't realize you and bruin cherry picked the team.

I always thought Kelmo was represented by Bruin and/or you... and that he was there to help mediate the discussion (like he does here.)

So for the next meeting/interaction with the Devs can you and bruin cherry pick someone like Kage... so along with Forsaken, us PvPers are properly represented? Since you've got what looks like 3 non-pvpers to 1 real pvper on that team...???

The reason so many have left Siege and are playing on other shards or other games is because the PvP here is terrible. It's not fun and it's even been downgraded to picking on roleplayers (hah!) Hopefully with someone like Kage in there too, perhaps it won't be so lop sided and the issues that are most important to so many will be properly represented.

    Thanks!

  46. Bruin

    Bruin Guest

Lets put an end to any rumors about what happened right here and now. There was no meeting/interaction with the devs. Cal (The Dev) had asked me to present to him a list of the low hanging fruit. Most of what the community had previously discussed and wanted was not doable based on emails exchanged between he and I. At that point I had wanted some assistance and talked with Kat over the issues as Kat has been instrumental in helping me put things for the devs together in the past.

From there, either her or I suggested that we get more people involved from the community and from there we (again either her or I cause I don't remember) brought in Sakie & Kelmo as they were available at that time. I would have liked to have Shalimar of NEW around as well, however she wasn't on ICQ at the time we were talking. From those talks, the poll on the low hanging fruit for Siege was put together.

    That's it.

If you want to talk fair representation, I think the 4 of us represent the diversity of the shard very well. If you think along the terms of the guilds and 3 big alliances, by taking a look at the uo.com guild page as of today there are 175 vet members, of which:

67 or 38% belong to the GIL/CWS alliance who were represented by me.
34 or 19% belong to the BFF/SP alliance who were represented by Sakie.
31 or 18% belong to the TnT/TnA alliance who were represented by Kat.
The remaining 25% "Others" were represented by Kelmo.

I think that is a VERY good distribution of representation of the population. Again, it would have been better to have Shalimar of NEW to better represent the others and the new people to this shard, and perhaps someone additional from GIL since it is such a large alliance. But being put together at the last minute, I think it went over very well. So I do not believe the 'true pvp-ers' were underrepresented in any way as you represent 19% of the population and had 25% of the voice.

I do not agree and I do not think on those terms.

Comparing your "diversity groups" - When compared to the other groups how much of that 38% has seen their playerbase erode to other games and other servers because of things like over powered pets and over powered ninjitsu and stealth - so they are now considered a minority by you? Where are the Lord Wyrms? Where are the Lord Puffys? Where are the Revvos? Where's BFF right now?

Looking at this, I shouldn't be surprised that nijitsu/stealth and pets were not even brought up as low hanging fruit. How easy is it to put in passive detect Bruin? Do you know the answer to one of the most hotly debated topics on this forum?

But then again, apparently this was your group of "representatives" and not the communities.

    *tips hat*
    Drax

By the way... if you want to replace Kelmo with somebody from Gil, then please pick someone like Speedy.

  48. Bruin

Do you believe that only pvp'ers have left this shard and rp'ers, pvm'ers, and crafters are going strong? The entire shard population has declined. Granted the crafters may not have been affected by overpowered pets and ninjitsu, but they have been affected by the inability to craft powerful armour/weapons for many years. Did the pvp'ers leave because of this reason? Every player type on this shard has been affected by lack of attention. For every "Where are the Lord Puffy's" you throw out, I can say, "Where are the Grots, where are the Hoffs, where are the Felinious'?" And no, 'true pvp'ers' have not made up the majority of this shard. Here's the top 10 guilds of Siege back in 2005, how many "true pvp" guilds do you see:

    1. DELUCIA TRADE ASOCIATION 83
    2. Ianstorm Alliance 44
    3. Crusaders of the Eight Virtues 41
    4. The Enlightened Path 38
    5. Citizens of Wispwood Shire 33
    6. Wakayama Clan 30
    7. Arc-en-ciel 25
    8. Shadowclan Orcs Dub 25
    9. VamPiric Embrace 25
    10. Iron Claw Empire 20

    The PVM/RP'ers had 1 representative.
    The PK/pvp'ers had 1 representative.
The 'true pvp'ers' had 1 representative.
And the 'others' had 1 representative.

I completely disagree that the 'true pvp'ers' should have had 1 more representative than everyone else. If anyone was under-represented it was the true crafters.
Yes. Because YOU bitched about passive detect in my thread titled 'letter to Cal on low hanging fruit', I put up a poll on Passive Detect here. And guess what, the majority of Siege did not want an immediate change to passive detect by copying prodo shards.

I don't ask the devs to do what you want them to do. I don't ask the devs to do what I want them to do. I ask the devs to do what the community wants and I can prove to the devs usually via a overwhelming majority poll that I link for them every time I make a request. And the poll on passive detect did not show that the majority wanted an immediate change.

Yes, thank you for repeating what I already stated in a previous post. I was stumped, I needed help, and Kat, Kelmo and Sakie were around and willing to help for which I thank them. Next time I need help should I put up a poll about who I should ask for help from?

I never said I wanted to replace Kelmo with somebody from GIL. I stated:

I believe Kelmo is a good representative of the people not belonging to one of the 3 major alliances.

Crafters have been affected by the inability to craft powerful weapons/armors?!?!? Have you never heard of runic hammers/kits/tools? Do you not recall guilds like mine buying and sopping up every single one of those we could get our hands on?

The biggest problem I have with your comparisons is that you're comparing guilds with open enrollment to guilds that only recruit selectively. As if they're the same thing.

For the record there are "true PvPers" in EVERY one of those alliances you listed.

Should have 1 more representative than anyone else? Say what? You have 3 NON-PvPer representatives... to 1 PvPer. How is making it 2 PvPers to 2 or 3 Non-PvPers having 1 more representative than anyone else?

Please mentally work out that hurdle for me. I can't follow how you've twisted what I'm saying...

I did not mention passive detect outside of pointing out why you didn't even include anything relating to the topic. There is a clear MINORITY that wants the current system of ninjitsu/stealth to remain the same. So why aren't Low Hanging Fruit being proposed to fix it?

Couple that with the very CLEAR vast numbers of players who left because of it and it's the biggest issue with Siege. Period... yet we have **** like black rock and bank storage which very few to no one CURRENTLY playing or that did play and left in disgust even cared about.

    GOOD JOB TEAM.

You do not. You didn't even TOUCH upon the communities very loud and 5 YEAR OLD issue with stealth tamers.

You can point the devs to issues that are hotly debated as something that needs to be addressed in one manner or another because the community as a whole is not happy with that system. They are the developers, since when did WE need to start spoon feeding them what changes are appropriate?

Yes, thank you for repeating what you already stated too.

So I'll repeat. I completely disagree with you and I do not think on your terms.

Take Forsaken for example. How many of the representatives you picked have the experience and in depth knowledge of this game that he does? How many of you have the experience and in depth knowledge of successfully completing champion spawns compared to him? Factions? Peerless? Character Templates/Builds? The use, viability and balance between the various templates?

How does someone like Kelmo compare to that? We all know how Speedy and someone like Kage compares. So tell me. How does Kelmo compare?

I never said you wanted to replace Kelmo. I'm saying you should want to have a team of representatives that actually represent the community.

In what way does he represent those players? That misc. group makes up pieces of everyone including PvPers, Champion Spawners, PvMers, Crafters, Factioners, Role Players, everything.

I cannot honestly believe someone who has no success or real interest in PvP, in champion spawns, in half the things I listed is a good representation of that group.

Oh he is simply because you say so?

Kelmo only represents bits and pieces of. Someone like Speedy (since I used him as an example) has successfully shown that he understands ALL of those systems and participates in them on a high level. From PvP to PvE to everything.

Please give me some reasons why you don't want to replace Kelmo with someone like Speedy?
