Not sure if I understand what you mean when you say "when the language is Danish" or if this will help but on my swedish keyboard I press Alt Gr + the "arrow" button next to the left Shift button. The one with < and > on it.

Well the actual characters you need to type are always identical:

    Classic:
    , = global chat
    | = alliance chat
    \ = guild chat

    Enhanced:
    /g = global chat
    /a = alliance chat
    /g = guild chat

the actual physical key to generate that character will be different for the different keyboard layouts.

Are you looking at translating EN (US) keyboards for every keyboard layout? The classic client only recognizes a | as a |.

On an EN (US) keyboard with the DA (Danish) language
    Ctrl + Alt + = or AltGR+=
    will give you a |

On a DA keyboard with the DA language
    Ctrl + Alt + ́ or AltGR + ́
    will give you a |
A DA keyboard should show ́ ` | on the key.

oops, thanks Lyconis. I hadn't realised it would be that complex. I better rethink my table.

I found some pics of the keyboad I use.

    Guild chat for me:

The upper key has ? and + and \ on it.

    Alliance chat for me:

Left key has < and > and | and \ on it.

I guess that is all I can contribute with. :)

I wouldnt go for a short cut table, because the variety of keybord layouts is huge (even within the "latin family"(few examples) and maintainance unpractical. I would stay with the signs and sign combination as basic info. For players, that have found the wanted sign on a key, but together with other signs, give hints on key modifiers (Shift + Alt or Alt Gr).
What about to overhaul your Ingame Communication page? I would erase the redundant informations and add the missing ones and put them in a table for faster overview/access.
Columns: "Action" (a native speaker may find a better word), sign in CC, signs in EC, desciption (here: my additional thoughts only).
    Rows:

    Say /s
    Emote : followed by <space> /e
Wisper ; followed by <space> /w Handy in a "trigger-all-makro" (Bank Recdu Cross...) to avoid spam.
    Yell ! /y

    Party / /p
    Guild \ /g
    Alliance | /a
Chat , /c to all in the preselected chat channel
Gamemaster [ /GM Answering only. A gamemaster must have started a conversation with you before.

I'm not aware of any redundant information on that page?

    This:

    Classic Client
To speak to the members of your party through ‘party chat’ precede each message with a slash, followed by a space (e.g. “/” “space” “meet at the crossroads”).
To speak to any online guild mates through ‘guild chat’ precede each message with a back slash, followed by a space (e.g. “\” “space” “return to the guild house”).
To speak to a member of your alliance through ‘alliance chat’ (which will also include guildmates of course) precede each message with shift + backslash, followed by a space (e.g. “shift+\” “space” “who’s online?”).

    Enhanced Client
As above, for ‘legacy chat off’ add ‘enter’ before each command.
To speak to party members precede your message with slash+p, space (e.g. “/p” “space” “meet at the crossroads”).
To speak to a guild mate precede your message with slash+g, space (e.g. “/g” “space” “meet at the guild house”).
To speak to an alliance mate precede your message

You would remove the examples? Some people find things easier to understand with an example.

However the point of the extra page is that the Danish player had been told he needed the character | for alliance chat, but did not know how to achieve that character with his keyboard.
I thought it would be useful to not only find the answer to his question, but to also to expand it to cover other situations that were similar.

    From Gilmour:

    Danish keyboard:

Party chat classic ( / ): Shift + 7 (or numpad / next to num lock)
    Guild chat classic ( \ ): Alt Gr + < (left of Z)
    Ally chat classic ( | ): Alt Gr + ´ (near backspace)

I was talking about merging it into a table (as a "picture tells us more than a thousand words"), which includes of course your examples. And my "latin family"(few examples) link leads directly to a danish keyboard layout (Dänische Tastatur, click to enlarge)

A lot of "standard" US Keyboards get creative on placement of the "pipe" (aka the "|") I imagine it is the same for a lot of languages, just not as bad from the lower number of computer sellers for other languages.

For example, if you consider a keyboard to have 5 rows (with the bottom being the CTRL, ALT, spacebar, and menu keys), I've seen different layouts over the years with the pipe key being in any of the top 4 rows, and not always as the "shift" version of "\". The most common location is directly above the "enter" key, but I've seen keyboards with that location being an extension of a much larger "enter" key that crosses 2 rows. On the "large Enter" types, they will often have the "\ |" to the left of the "Enter" key (on either row), above it (with the "Backspace" key, normally double-width, reduced to single width, and the Pipe/Backslash taking the spot its left half would be), or below it.

That's not even getting into the minefields that are laptops and "alternative layout" keypads - let alone other languages.

Typically, if you want easy access to backslash or the pipe, you want a keyboard set up for programmers, as I believe the pipe is used in some programming languages.

My suggestion, if you have a non-English keyboard where finding the keys for some of the chat commands are difficult, look on your keyboard for symbols you NEVER use in chat, and set them up as macros for the hard-to-access ones.

You can also get to the chats by typing the ascii codes: Alt + 124 - for | ( ally chat ), Alt + 92 for \ ( guild chat ) and Alt + 47 / ( party chat )

The ALT keys would be great to add, I know with some languages (e.g. Korean Hangul) the coma (,) in UO gets converted to some character that looks like a coma but it won't get you into general chat. And the | adds an additional space or something.
Also a note about the right alt being AltGR which can allow you to get the "third" character printed on a key could also be useful.

Thank you Piotr. I'll add that to the page, that should be helpful regardless of language or keyboard layout.
