helping a noob to PVP

Discussion in 'UHall' started by Anon McDougle, Jan 6, 2009.

  1. the type of help i would need is very basic

    macros 101

    what spells to what keys

how does this whole last target thing work

    etc etc

sounds simple to the exp PVPer but to a noob that might use 4 macros while PVM its very overwhelming

its this learning curve i feel that keeps most out of Fel

    heres the senerio

ok mac my mage scrolled out 120 in magery, necro,SS,Med and Eval got me this sweet 100%lrc 13 LMC leet leet bling bling suit i can take down Ogre lords in two spells Biatch Im going to Fel work me a spawn i will kick ass if any one comes.

middle of spwan raider rolls up new leet mage thinking ok where was my flame strike macro again.... expvper curse posion fireball fireball explosion OOOO WTF and another guy never goes back.........

    hmm, you missed one question.

    Where do I find cheats?

Last target means the last thing that you targeted. So you manually cast a spell on player X then you cast another spell but instead of manually targeting player X you hit the last target macro and it casts the spell on him. Targeting yourself is never considered "last target" that is always "target self" - you can never be the last target.

A lot of people use the F1-F12 keys and a lot of Alt+Keys to do macros. Placement isnt that important as much as memorizing and getting comfortable with them. Find a friend and practice combos, get UOAssist and utilize Last Target, Target Self and Que Target range as well. I set me last target macro as my mouse wheel forward liek im throwing a spell away from me, and my target self macro as a mouse wheel backwards liek im casting on myself. Other than that practice practice practice. I use this to put the majority of my macros on......

maybe best to start off with a few basic macros
    like
    last target
    target self
    mini heal
    greater heal
    cure
    arch cure
    energy bolt
    fireball
    poison
drink cure potion (potion macros requires uo assist, i assume you have it)
    drink heal potion
and add more spells as you learned the previous ones

make sure your suit have atleast 60 in all resists abit of DCI and you have some of skill to hold off dexers with (wrestling/wepskill)

(most full time pvpers will have a suit with all +60 resist 40lmc +5mr and 45+dci, this is were you want to go at some time)

after sorting your first macros and a decent suit, start practice duel with some friends,it will take ALOT of deaths to become a decent PvPer and even more once you are

and put the macores were you want to, any key is ok as long you find it

Oh yea and keep playing that mage if you want to ever be respected as a good PvPer.

  8. Uh, well that suit doesn't sound good enough.
You need minimum 70/75/60/75/70, 100 lrc, 40 lmc, 4 mr (with 120 med), 15 sdi, 2/6, 45 dci. You're still likely to get eaten by dexxers with 45 dci. Ideally also one handed so you can use pots without disarming.

After that you need direct offense and healing spells macrod.
Things like necro forms, fields, area spells, summons I'd put on gumps (spell icons you pull out of the book) and use a last spell macro to repeat em if needed. Saves you macro space and makes your offense easier to learn.

After that you need to already be familiar with where everything is, so pvm'ing with it first would be a good idea.

After that you need to be familiar with what spells actually do, specifically curses (curse, evil omen, mind rot, blood oath) then get familiar with a few combos.

Curse as early as possible, it caps their fire/cold/poison/energy resist at 60 so makes your spells do more damage. Re curse when they remove it.
    Learn how omen works.
Use pots/trap boxes/apples/petals. Have them macrod.
Be human for jack of all trades, spellweaving buffs alone are worth it.
Be aware of how & when to use protection, staying in it all the time just makes you vulnerable.

Artys, suit, cheats, speedhacks, going red, double whopper with cheese talk don't make you a pvper, knowing what you're doing does.

    Edit:
Use spirit speak to heal through mortal if your out of apples, you can hold heals on your cursor while using spirit speak then target them the second it wears off.

Get a good programmable mouse. you want, your greater heals, total refreshes and greater cures macro'd on your mouse. Targeting should be done up and down on the mousewheel. pull towards for target self and push for last target. You'll also want to have apples macroed on the mouse if you can as well.

i like to categorize spells, small offensive, big offensive, beneficial small, beneficial big(arch cure and greater heal and spirit speak).

lay them out in a comfortable fashion across your keyboard. a lot of pvpers can't even talk in game without activating a dozen or so macros. You may like that, I don't mind it.

you're going to need to spend through the nose when it comes to pvp gear, fortunately if you join factions, much of the artifacts are more easily attained and it lowers the barrier to entry for low level pvp. you want all 70s resist, preferably all 70s even when corpse skinned. Use a basic mage template to learn how to pvp as it is the easiest. necro mage is probably going to suit your needs best.

My advice is, macro everything and get comfortable using it all before ever appearing in the dungeons. Get your skills scrolled out and get your stats maxed. This is pvp, and there aren't people out there that will just teach you. Learn by doing and remember, dieing means nothing in UO, just make sure you never pvp without a full complement of potions, apples, petals and anything else you require.

Oh yeah, small spells tend to work best, max out everything and anything and make sure you have the hit points and mana to survive.

join a pvp guild, and start dueling,as with most thinks timing plays a big part the hardest part i find about pvp is trying to grab your enemy's bar.

#1 Don't try playing a mage as your first experience with PvP. They have their uses, but Dexxers are far more survivable and you will need experience B4 having a chance on a mage.

#2 I'd try a one handed chuggin (50% enhance pots) bushido parry dexxer to start with OR a 4/6 parry Chiv Dexxer. You can ask around as to how to build these, but playing something quite durable means you might get a chance to experience PvP long enough to actually learn from it.. Dieing and having to check your journal to see how it happened is a BAD thing = ).

#3 On a Side note if you want to be really effective while still learning and already have a TAMER or feel ambitious & can train one then a Character using a Greater Dragon is also a good way to go...
4/6 Chiv / parry / Wrestling / Taming / Lore / ninjitsu / lots of DCI... Bola / All kil etc... & a Big Bad Dragon will protect you nicely vs. any solo character.

ye shouldnt pvp first time on a mage, your gona get eaten up. I suggest making a gimp char at first so you can kill people and survive longer and after awhile in fel, you will start to pick up how things work by observing others pvp such as what spells they cast, how do they combo them to get the kill, how do they heal and how to take down different templates...

But for a mage at first pvp I would also agree as stated above, you needa suite like that with dci lmc and what not.

For spells, I say F1 heal F2 target self F3 Cure F4 greater heal ( mouse wheel down target self / up last target ) thats your main healing spells, I have F5 as bless and F6 arch cure.

for offence, I use 1-6 Q-Y A-G Z-C I have small spells on 1-6 right under my heals so I can throw heals and quickly disrupt with weaken, key spells for your temp you should have close to heals I think are magic arrow, weaken, poison, harm and pain spike.

Q-Y I have big spells such as explosion flamestrike poison strike and I also have evil omen there for use with flame strike

A-G I have corpose, strangle, blood oath, fire ball, harm

Z-C is pretty much curse, lightening pain spike..

jotted around I also have wall, e-field, para field, mana vamp and mind rot.

But thats me and how I have em, once you have em set just learn them, once u start learning combo's more you will prolly change them so there closer to certain other spells you use in same combos

gl with pvp, you sound like me back in the day heh :lick:

there aint actually really anyone who uses cheats, maybe speeder or something but what kinda cheats are there really that would aid you in pvp but not get you noticed? Think of it..

I bet you cant even name a cheat tbh, because there are none..

Cheats usually mean "he killed me too fast, it's not me that's bad it must be him! CHEATER!!!"

Although we all know there are scripters out there that use PvP scripts to help them target, chug, and whatever else they do. To me, why play the game if you have to use 3rd party programs to win. It's like cheating at your score in a round of golf, you know you still suck no matter what you wrote on the card.

So speeding around the screen 3 times as fast as everyone else wouldn't get you noticed? Happens every day and no one seems to care.

Auto healing, chugging and tree stump hacks are not noticable to anyone else, unless of course they're sitting in the same room looking at your screen.

I can't name any on this forum because it will get deleted or locked. I'm sure anyone interested in finding these cheats could spend less than 5 minutes searching the web and find a half dozen or so cheats.

Don't act like I'm some stupid noob who hasn't spent the better part of a decade listening to people in vent or TS listing all the crap they're running. Not to mention the amount of time I have every day to do a little research.

Cheats most certainly do exist and are being used daily by a large portion of the UO PvP population.

99% of people use speed hacks, some of them are even allowed by uo because they dont "hack" they just change **** at your side, so EA terms says there ok.

scripts are also legal (useless if you ask me) but you can use scripts so long as your not afk..

You have not listed any cheats or hacks.

I've pvp'd in alot of top guilds in my time, always ran with best pvpers on each server I have been on and noone uses these hacks you cant list..

Its called being skilled, and yes I am thinking your newb tbh.

If so many people use these cheats / hacks you seem to know so much about, then why do they lose to me and people I play with who dont use cheats?

I have never had a fight with anyone who I would say was using cheats..

Thought a cheat was just that, a cheat to make you better.. not working if you ask me

I would venture to say that even more non PvP players are scripters. UO needs to be cleaned up but people only attack PvPers about it (which the majority don't use anything illegal) because monsters don't cheat when you attack them.

No speedhacks are legal and I dare you to find me a single quote from a Dev that says speedhacks are legal.

Wrong again junior. All non approved programs are ILLEGAL whether you are attended or not.

Any more BS you'd like to make up????

colter, I believe the poster was referencing the number of programs which in no way interact with UO but do result in heightened speeds and pings. Many are merely commercially marketed programs.

your right, and not to mention UOA is legal and you can pretty much set it to do most scripting stuff.

colter, you obviously don't know the first thing about what a cheat is in this game. I supose if I set my client to high priority in task man you would say I was cheating, it makes me move faster in game after all.

if you dont want to name the cheat name, at least give me some info about the cheats you think exist? like what do they actually do?

Except there's no loop on UOAssist so unlike most automated scripts you cannot leave it running for hours unattended.

    1. Auto Healing starts a bandaid the moment you take any damage
    2. Auto Chugging will disarm/chug pot the moment you are poisoned
    3. Tree stump hack
    4. Field hack

There's more, but these are some of the more common cheats used today.

You're right, there are several ways to increase the speed in which UO runs on your computer, but he specifically used the term speedhack and claimed they were legal.

Which as I said was incorrect.

  29. Sephy

    Sephy Guest

The current "speed hacks" that people use, does all them things its basicly high priority and therefore doesn't violate terms, the "real" speed hacks are detectable a mile away and are never used really by people.

    1. Auto Healing starts a bandaid the moment you take any damage
    2. Auto Chugging will disarm/chug pot the moment you are poisoned
    3. Tree stump hack
    4. Field hack

    1. Noone in there right mind would run a script for that, if they do there stupid, script kicks in when you dont want it to ( like when your trying to chug a pot / switch weapons it messes the macro up and gets you killed. most people press 1 button called bandage self

    2. again, auto chugging is never used, its pointless and gets you killed / wastes pots when you don't need to waste them. as above, there set to a single key and uoa is used to disarm/rearm.

    3. A simple .MUL edit, doesn't effect gameplay mega or make you a better pvper, simply makes lame trees not treees so you can actually see, not a vaild hack / cheat to mention sir.

    4. Same as above, maybe gives you less lag. as far as I was aware, your changing stuff on your side, not the server side, doesn't do anything and isnt illigal. trammies have there client looking pretty..

everything you mentioned, doesn't make you a better pvper

You wanted me to post some commonly used working cheats, which is exactly what I did. Then you basically agree that these cheats do exist and are used.

Thanks for confirming that I was correct.

Go spend 5 minutes doing some research on the web before telling me that cheats do not exist.

  31. Sephy

    Sephy Guest

There not cheats, and don't improve you ability so why does he need cheats to compete in pvp?

I'm saying, the way your thinking of what is and what isnt a "cheat" to make you good / able to compete in pvp is greatly flawed.

Your just listing scripts and .mul file editing, not real cheats and real cheats people don't use but could be easily made. like 4/6 mage casting, removing caps on HCI LMC and the such. There cheats.

To compete, you either need to be good, or run in a large group. not have tree stump hack lol

That's why no one uses any cheats right? Because if they really didn't help you be a "better" PvPer, why use them.

Head back to school junior. You're understanding of what is really happening is as pathetic as your grammar skills.

The Following is from the RoC, by modifying files used by the client your in violation of it. So yea according to EA it's Illegal.
By Modifying your MUL files your altering a part of the service because the rights to the client are owned by EA and so is all the art in those files.

    7) You may not modify any part of the Ultima Online Service ...

The Client is part of that Service. They update and maintain it. It's also been said multiple times that alterations of that sort if proven are bannable.
