Alright, we have been given new ships with a much larger capacity than the older ones.

A Tokuno ship, for example, can hold 16,000 tons.
Yes, we have also been given the ability to use commodity deeds inside of them which is sure handy.

Still, by working on the fishmongers' quests I have been seeing how limiting are the current containers that have a limit of 400 stones.

The hold can store 16,000 stones but it has a physical limit in size and all of the various fishes, crabs, lobsters, do not physically fit into it (at least using the 2D client...).

Therefore, to keep some sort of order and organization, containers are needed to be able to drop the catches so that they auto-stack onto each other thus saving time to the players.

Problem is, the 400 stones current limit for containers. The containers soon fill up in weight and one is forced to use commodity deeds in a tedious and repetitive effort.

Having containers of a much larger capacity would ease up the life of High Seas fishermen.

They could be made craftables or added as Veteran rewards or just purchaseable from NPCs, whatever..... But I think they are a needed addition.

what is this tonnage you speak of? Sounds of some sort of "special" magik! You must be mistaken, as the only weight within the world of Ultima Online is that of Stone or Stones.

I have no problem putting much more than 60k stone in my containers, however there is the pesky problem of the legacy hold holding only 400 stone

I have a commodity deed box on my house stairs, I just recall and drop the fish in there.
I can fill it with unlimited weight and I have sorted the fish for quick fill the orders.
We are in 4 to fish on my boat and the hold is full only after 10 hours of fishing :D

I don't see the necessity of making fishing any easier, now that I have accepted the fact that some things are meant to be difficult. If everything gets served to us on a silver platter, no challenge is left in game. I'd agree if fish would weigh 5 stones like crabs instead of 10 stones, but that's it.

I think fishing was made hard on purpose. It should mean something if you are legendary fisherman. I know that many people want instant gratification and want to become legendary as fast as they are used to it from other skills, but why the hurry? Take your time. I don't mind if it takes 2 years to reach that goal.

But wait... I remember that someone once condemned "instant gratification" on these boards not too long ago... I smell contradiction. Or hypocrisy?

That's not instant gratification at all.

Allowing a better storing only makes the life of a fisherman less messy.

The same can be done now with commodity deeds, it is not like this would be something currently not possible.

Only, allowing larger capacity containers, this would make fisherman loose less of their time to stack things, shuffle them around containers, turning them into deeds and so forth.

It would only and merely allow players to have a better and more organized storage.

Nothing at all, as I see it, about instant gratification.

I say increased capacity in all containers, weight And item count, especially including packies. And larger graphics to match, so it looks like storage, not a warehouse

There's a very very obvious option you haven't tried Popps...one I've always used while fishing. You make piles of fish on your deck. I said it was obvious, right? :p When you're done you can make whatever transport arrangements you like to get the haul back home or use your hold for some etc. The only difference is that now you have a much larger hold in a new ship, plus your backpack and any pack critter(s) you have on deck too. Really, it's no different to any other resource collection, except your ship has a lot more capacity than the humble packhorse.

The problem is, that the fish doesnt stack anymore. Atleast not on my PC. For years i could put 4 fish on my deck and fish away. UOA would automatically stack the items so my back got filled with boots only.

Since the HS:Booster UOA doesn't do it anymore. It fishes until my pack is full and then drops them as single items on the deck.

Ok Popps, you understand how decay works, right? Especially for heavy weights in large stacks, when you're adding items to the stacks while you fish? You know things can be refreshed?

Learn how to make item decay work to your benefit and you won't have to worry about losing fish.

Fish that don't stack are a pain, personally I'd just throw them in bags and take regular loads home.

    More containers?

I'm having no problems tbh. You can have a container for each fish type? They surely wouldn't fill up too quickly then?
I actually just have a enough bags that when they're full they'll fit in a packie to take home, where I've a fishing shack with crates to sort them into.

There are a number of solutions you could try that do not require developer's time.

    Goodness me,

Popps is still around presenting well reasoned topics!!!

Other than the plural of fish being...fish..., I agree with his OP.

That is aside from mob-speak where one goes to "sleep with the fishes...." :)

I do not like how in the Classic Client I cannot just drop a fish from my pack into the hold using the "Drag and Drop" method. Though I may be doing something incorrectly.

Good to see you (hopefully) well Popps.

Yes it is. You want to be able to carry more fish in order to be more efficient and thus finish your quests more quickly. For what reason should you want this other than getting your rewards more easily? Or do you collect piles of fish just for the fun of it?

I have a pack in my bankbox that has a stack of most, if not all fish types. I have the same in my hold (that is normally 11000 out of 12000 stones full). When I need to fill an order, I just sort through the stacks of fish types until I find what I need to fill the order, and I am done. Nothing difficult about it, nor very time consuming (especially since I can do this while still fishing too)

Would it be nice to have expandable containers like the old 3D client? sure
Is it that much of a problem as it currently works? no

Then again, perhaps I am just a more efficient individual than some people who are having pains working this.

Thing is, that the hold still has a 125 items limit.

In order to get the fishmonger quests done, there is some 29 fishes in between shallow and deep water (not counting also the 12 dungeon fishes) plus 14 more in between crabs and lobsters. So, not counting dungeon fishes, it is a total of 43 fishes/crabs/lobsters.

Now, if one wanted to use 1 container for each that would double the item count up to 86.

But then, since each container can hold a max of 400 stones (which in some cases means merely 40 of an individual fish...) pretty soon it becomes necessary to ALSO use commodity deeds to reduce the weight and thus remain within the 400 stones limit.

Let's say this is done for half of the stored stock or 22 deeds.
    The item count jumps up to 86 + 22 = 108 items.

But then, we also have the Big fishes, the rare fishes which weight a lot and are not stackable, there is also the need to store traps and a few other items that show up when fishing like the scales, the leather from deep serpents, the white pearls, the nets, MiBs and so forth, and soon the 125 limit is met.

Having a container that could exceed the 400 stones limit would enormously help in keeping the item count much lower and the whole organization of the ship's Hold much better and ordered.

At least, that is how I see it.

    Hail Megilhir !!

Glad to see you back. I took some time off also for like a couple of years or so but then came back and am glad I did it.

I am seeing quite a few old players (and Stratics' posters...) coming back lately and I have to say that it is a refreshing feeling.

I think how Ultima Online was thought not to last a year and we just celebrated the 13th birthday and keep counting.........

Correct me if I am wrong, but there is not a weight limit that I know of for chests. I have some with over 50,000 stones in them. The item count is restricted to 125, but the weight of a single item or stack can get quite high. Perhaps 60,000 is the upper limit, but I have not tested this.

Why not try some of the suggestions folks have made instead of asking the devs to change the hold size? TBH I'd much prefer if the devs moved straight on to making items stack when they ought to, rather than giving players larger holds to compensate for the fact they don't stack correctly. Sounds kinda backwards to me. Just adding a single giant beetle to your ship would help you. There are a few banks you can open from the sea in a boat too - Nujelm is one obvious example. Again, use the deck for some bits. Scales and hides especially. You could make your life easier straight away without any dev involvement.

That only works in houses for secures. If the container is inside a ship's hold the 400 stones limit remains in place, unfortunately.

I wished this was not the case and that containers inside a ship's hold worked like secures in a house........

stacking stuff doesn't seem to work as some think; and I just had a bag of 130 normal crabs and lobsters decay on me while fishing during the stratics downtime.

What popps wants is something that was in the game, and is considered a minor rare now -

The 1600 stone backpacks that used to be the contents of a packy corpse, that you could loot the entire pack all at once with (it was in the corpse), instead of looting each item one at a time as is now.

Some of us probably have one or two of them around the house and not know it. I personally wish I had a dozen, for fish sorting in my hold, prior to deeding them.

I think the additional hold storage is probably not the answer though, Popps. If items don't stack when they should - make them stack. If the weights are too high - make them lighter. Fixing both would mean you don't need a larger hold and would result in a much easier transportation of a fisher's haul when they return to shore.
