A couple of weeks ago, I got the bug to play with making some more spreadsheets and charts. Kind of missed the big spreadsheet and charts from tracking zoo donation activity a few years ago and trying to stir up some shard rivalry!

I decided it might be interesting to keep track of the information on the official UO site that lists how many guilds each shard has and the number of veteran characters there are in the top 10 guilds on each shard. I thought I'd share the numbers I've gathered so far just to give folks something to mull over.

There's a set of Google spreadsheets for each shard and also a set that combines numbers for all shards. At the top right corner of each spreadsheet, you'll find a link that takes you to the Web page that is/was the source of the data in that spreadsheet. (In the "All Shards" set of sheets, however, the first two spreadsheets and their corresponding charts get their numbers from all the individual shard spreadsheets.) The "current data" spreadsheets get their data from the UO website and the "historical data" spreadsheets get their data from the Internet Archive's "Way Back Machine" website. Note that the historical data spreadsheets also include numbers of order and chaos guilds for the years that those types of guilds were allowed. Also listed are the number of warring guilds, up to a maximum of ten. I believe "veteran characters" are characters with total real skills of at least 700 that were logged in during the most recent 30 days, and I think the "number of guilds" reported only includes guilds that had at least one character logged in during the most recent 30 days. I'm not sure if that character had to have at least 700 real skill points or not, however, for the guild to be counted.

So, without further ado, below are the links to the Google spreadsheets. Have fun browsing the spreadsheets and charts. I've only typed in the historical data on some of the spreadsheets so far, but will slowly be adding it for the other ones as I get time. (The shards with an asterisk before the name have a spreadsheet and charts with historical info.) I'll try to keep adding the current information on a daily basis for as long as I'm able to and hopefully I won't miss too many days in the process. Keep in mind when you look at the historical data that there are many many gaps in the data. I could only type in what ended up being archived and in all cases no info seems to have been archived past August 2008.

Use the tabs at the bottom of a page to navigate between spreadsheets and charts. Holler if links don't work and I'll try to provide better ones.

Good to hear from you, Tina. Your analytic mind is missed, especially in light of the new beta release. :)

You wouldn't happen to be related to Cal by any chance...I hear he likes to play with spreadsheets too.

Nice to see you back though and thanks for the info.

Nope, not related. Plus these spreadsheets are not in Excel and they're very public as well.

Nice! I'll have fun posting some random observations on your data - just don't take this as a statistical analysis :)

    - I'm surprised that the total number of 'Veteran Characters' has been practically constant over the last ten years. I wouldn't have expected that.

_ It's also interesting to look at the evolution of Order-Chaos, at least on Atlantic
    * Huge increase in number of O/C guilds right after UO:R - reaction to Trammel?
    * Huge drop again after the release of Factions
    * Then, O/C guilds basically disappeared with AoS - either because the PvPers quit, or more likely because stat-loss was removed and everybody on Felucca was free to go red
    * This probably explains why the system was dropped with SE - it was already almost dead...

I don't have the experience with UO to make very many comments on the data. Just want to remind everyone looking at the historical information that it has MANY gaps in it and pretty much cuts off in the summer of 2008. For some shards, there are no figures at all for 2005 and few for 2006. Other shards do have figures for those years.

I'll try to keep posting "current" figures, especially now that the campaign to draw people back to UO has apparently kicked off. Let's just hope that nothing goes wacky with the pages on the official site and we go into another extended period of having no updated guild and vet character figures. If we do, I'll be very tempted to cry "foul" and assume it is because someone at EA doesn't want the figures to be available.

Note: Below is the order in which I generally update the sheets each day, as the information is posted on the UO website. I think the listed times are in the North American Central time zone and just happened to be the times I noted on a specific date. There's probably some variance from day to day in the update times.

Just a quick observation as I start adding today's figures to the spreadsheets and letting the charts update: On most shards, I'm seeing a small but definite increase in the number of "active" guilds (i.e., guilds that have had at least one character logged in during the last 30 days). What I haven't seen so far is an increase in the number of veteran characters in the top 10 guilds on most shards. That leads me to believe that most people who are logging in as part of the "return" campaign have their characters in dormant guilds and/or smaller but still active guilds.

Just a reminder that I'm still tracking these numbers. Also wanted to let you all know I started tracking some additional data a week ago: total characters in the top 10 guilds on each shard and top 10 guilds that don't have an active guild leader. So, if you're bored, take a peek, especially at the "All Shards" sheet. It's up-to-date with numbers through mid-day today. Don't forget that the blue button on the bottom right side of a chart provides an easy way to navigate the "tabs" or "sheets" of a particular document.

Overall, the total number of guilds has continued to show a small but steady increase on most shards, while membership in the largest guilds on all shards has stayed fairly flat. So it seems to me that the majority of people who might be reactivating accounts for the current "Return to Britannia" campaign are not in the largest guilds on the various shards and aren't clamoring to join them and/or are not being actively recruited to join those guilds. I guess whether or not that's a good thing remains to be seen. Will the total number of guilds start dropping 30 days after the campaign opened, or will the numbers keep increasing or stay flat? Will we see any kind of a drop in membership numbers for the top 10 guilds per shard as we approach 30 days after the purported "mass bannings"? Who knows?!

Also, if you're looking at Baja's figures in particular, there seemed to be a bit of a hiccup in the reporting on Friday and the total number of guilds reported just for Baja jumped by 1400 and several guilds had significant one-day drops in their total and vet character members. I chose to just skip those numbers for Baja for one day because the totals for the next day (Saturday) were completely in line with Thursday's figures and because the total number of guilds for all shards reported for Friday absolutely didn't reflect a jump of 1400 guilds.

I'm also considering making another spreadsheet just for grins but am not sure anyone would be interested in looking at it. Thought I'd periodically (i.e., once a week perhaps) compare the skill averages for the top 20 guilds in the game. Only problem is that the skill averages info lacks figures for Imbuing, Mysticism, and Throwing! (Why am I not really surprised at that?) If I decide to go ahead with making a comparison, I'll make another post with the link. (It's rainy here and I can't get outside to putter in the yard and I don't watch football.) I'm trying to figure out if there's an easy way to make the charts identify faction guilds versus nonfaction guilds. I don't have the time to try to figure out which guilds might be "PvP" guilds to make the comparison more interesting, but thought a good shortcut might be to identify faction guilds by bracketing the guild names or something like that so they're easy to identify in the chart legend.

Anyway, holler if you have questions/comments about the spreadsheets and charts.

Forgot to add this tip: When you're looking at the charts using lines and dots, you can click on the dots to help identify the shard and the number it represents. Same with the stacked bar charts. Hope that helps.

One more note regarding the skill averages info: I think the values reported for Stealthing are switched with another skill, perhaps Remove Trap. Anyone know if this is true and are any other skills swapped on these pages?

I put together a set of spreadsheets and a chart on Google showing the guild skill averages for UO's "top 20" guilds (determined by their number of veteran characters) as of October 10, 2010. Took a while to type in all the data and figure out how to format it.

Anyway, use the link below if you're interested. There are actually 21 guilds represented because I included the Knights of Ni, which was on the list in the morning but not in the afternoon after the list was updated for the day.

You'll notice a few oddities such as no information for Imbuing, Mysticism, or Throwing. Also, I'm pretty sure that the values shown for the Remove Trap skill actually represent values for the Stealth skill, and vice versa.

Don't know how often I'll bother with updating this since it's very time consuming to look up and type in all those numbers. However, here's the information for one date in time, just for grins. Kind of interesting to see the total amount of skill points tied up in various skills among the members of the largest guilds in the game. Kinda makes you wonder if power scrolls, SoTs, and SoA drop rates bear any relationship to the amount of points characters have tied up in various skills. Probably not. That would be too easy.

I will try to do this again at some point in the future just to see if there's been much change in which skills are most popular and to see if the devs fix the web pages to include the missing skills and also fix the mislabeled skills. I suspect there is a significant amount of skill points tied up in Imbuing and Mysticism, but no way to know for sure if the data isn't provided to us.

Note: View the chart full screen if you want all the skills listed at the bottom to show their names.

Just wanted to say I'm still tracking the numbers posted daily at town.uo.com for all shards (i.e., total # of guilds, veteran-only and total characters in the "top 10" guilds on each shard, and number of "top 10" guilds whose guild leader character has not logged in for over a month), as well as the total and veteran-only characters in the game's 20 largest guilds. (There's also some historical information posted in many of the spreadsheets, although I still haven't finished collecting this information from the Wayback Machine for all shards.)

A complete list of links to all the spreadsheets is in the first post in this thread. You can also find links to the shard-specific spreadsheets on one of the pages inside the "all shards" spreadsheet. I also added a timeline of sorts as the last page in the "all shards" spreadsheet. [If you're too lazy to scroll back to the top of the thread, here's a link to the "all shards" spreadsheet: https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0Aj2lpjetLFwwdFN5TXJLVmQtNWNVZ3NvU1JRTWc3QVE&hl=en#gid=9.]

Once again, keep in mind when viewing these numbers that characters are counted for about a month after their last log in. The fastest way to navigate through the pages within any particular spreadsheet is to click on the blue button near the bottom right corner of any particular page. Clicking this button brings up a list of all pages in the spreadsheet so you can easily click on any page name to proceed directly to it.

Edited to add: Don't be intimidated by the huge amount of numbers. Each document includes some graphs that make it easier to spot trends, and in the "all shards" document, to compare numbers across shards.

And since no one will probably spot this by actually opening any of the documents, I'll just point out that today is exactly 31 days since the Return to Britannia campaign started. Yesterday's publish and the unconfirmed announcement of a "classic PvP shard" should provide at least some small bump to the numbers that were bound to drop off as the bump from the Return to Britannia campaign wore off. Yes, I'm wearing my cynic's hat today.

In early November, I stopped updating the numbers in these spreadsheets and made them inaccessible to the public because I just didn't care at that point and it didn't seem like anyone else did either.

Now, given the possibility (however remote) that the UO team is going to give us their annual update on the state of the game, I thought it might be interesting to update these numbers again and make them available to anyone willing to dig through the spreadsheets.

So, this morning I'm busy looking up shard figures and updating the sheets, if the numbers are available. (So far, Lake Austin has no figures on uo.com and I have no clue how long that situation has existed.) If you want to take a look, feel free. I leave it to you to scrounge back through this thread for the links to the shard spreadsheets and the "all shards" spreadsheet, an explanation of the format of the sheets, and to draw your own conclusions on the current state of UO.

Wow! Lots of work Tina. Thank you.

If you look at All Shards Combined Guilds and Veteran Characters in the Top 20 Largest Guilds, the huge drop in vets corresponds roughly between Publish 16 and AOS launch. Go figure.

I had to make the "All Shards" sheet private again because the pages with the charts keep locking up. Google has updated the chart types and mine are "behind the times." Go figure. So until I have some time to give all those charts a new style, I'm just going to lock it for now. Hopefully I will have things straightened out by sometime on Monday. You can still get a sense for how things are going by using the links above to look at the sheets for individual shards.

IMPORTANT NOTE: There is no data available on uo.com currently for any of the west coast shards (Baja, Lake Austin, Napa, Origin, Pacific, Sonoma), or for Chesapeake or Lake Superior. I have no idea how long this has been the case or why it's even happening. Maybe someone who plays those shards and has had more of a reason than me to look at those figures knows when the website stopped providing updated info for these shards. The info for all other shards is up-to-date through either February 11th or February 12th, depending on when the last shard maintenance was and when I looked at the website this morning.

EDITED TO ADD: Here's the link for a new spreadsheet that contains only the "top 20 guilds" info: https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0Aj2lpjetLFwwdDdyd2pVYjBqX0dhMUE3el8xTXJyRXc&hl=en. I included the figures that were posted yesterday, but suspect they might not reflect guild totals and top 10 largest guild info for Chesapeake, LS, Baja, Lake Austin, Napa, Origin, Pacific, and Sonoma.

ONE MORE ADDITION: A new spreadsheet with just the historical data is here: https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0Aj2lpjetLFwwdENWOWhTemd0TmdOS2ZoZng3SXpXUWc&hl=en.

Fayled, I have a very strong suspicion that lately Cal makes important teaser posts and blesses the release of some publishes so they coincide almost to the day to when the numbers on uo.com are potentially about to slump significantly because of "wear-away" in those figures.

Some of the west coast shards numbers on uo.com have been dwindling for 3 weeks before they just disappeared. Strange though its only messing with certian shards. Last time this happened on uo.com it was on all shards not just a select few.

    Fayled....

I liked the Howard Hughes statement. The big question to >me< is... when he did die..was it really him?

Since Mythic seems to have decided to not waste their resources reporting figures for a third of the shards (9 out of 27), I'm not sure I'm going to continue with this effort. However, I wanted to post a smidgeon of information before I decide whether or not to give up on this little project once again.

Below are the number of guilds and the total number of "veteran" characters in the ten largest guilds on each shard as reported on the official UO website for three specific dates in the recent past (September 16, 2010; November 6, 2010; and February 13, 2011):

I have a bad feeling that data may soon become unavailable for a few more shards. No numbers have been posted yet today for these shards: Legends (now 3 hours late) and Atlantic (now 1 1/2 hours late). (It's still too early to tell if GL's figures will be updated.)

Is anyone else seeing 4070 as the number of guilds reported today for Great Lakes on this page: ORIGIN - Ultima Online - Community? Yesterday, the value was 693 and the day before that it was 705.

Below are updated figures through February 18, 2011. I figured I'd post these today as the 18th may be the last date that data is available for the 19 shards currently reporting data. The server(s) for the Japanese, Korean, and Taiwanese shards will be receiving new hardware over the next couple of days (and Oceania's hardware is moving back into the same black hole with the North American west coast shards) and it's anyone's guess as to whether or not we'll ever see numbers reported for them again once that process is complete. During the last week, data was still not reported for 8 of 27 shards (Baja, Chesapeake, Lake Austin, Lake Superior, Napa Valley, Origin, Pacific, and Sonoma).

Also, the Great Lakes page is once again reporting an erroneous number of guilds. The other day the bad figure was 4070; today it's 4170.

I assembled some graphs of the data from the UO guild pages that I've been tracking in Google spreadsheets and thought I'd share them with you all.

It's been said that a picture is worth a thousand words. In this case, I don't know whether or not that's true, since I need to give you a few explanatory notes!

    1) I kept track of this data for several months late last year (i.e., early September through early November) and then took a break of several months. I resumed tracking the numbers earlier this month. On the graphs of the shards that had data posted in both periods, you'll see a wavy white line to help identify the break in tracking the figures.

    2) No data has been posted in quite some time for eight shards (Baja, Chesapeake, Lake Austin, Lake Superior, Napa Valley, Origin, Pacific, and Sonoma). No one from Mythic seems to be willing to provide any explanation for this continued and troubling lack of data. The charts for these shards will show a large red question mark after the last data from early November.

    3) On some graphs for the other shards, any gaps you notice in the period starting in February 2011 are the result of no data being posted on the UO website or, in the case of Great Lakes on two occasions, clearly erroneous data was posted. Check the underlying spreadsheets at the links elsewhere in this thread if you want more information about what was missing or "bad."

    4) I wanted the range on the vertical axis for the charts that are lined up next to each other to be the same, but knew that using the same range for Atlantic and Siege would make it very difficult to see what's going on with Siege's numbers. As a result, I decided to group and sequence the shards based on a very, very rough estimate of the total number of characters per shard. The charts show up roughly in sequence from largest to smallest and the range of the vertical axis on the charts in each row is the same on every chart in that row, but not necessarily the same as the charts in the row above or below. My formula for roughly estimating total number of characters on each shard was Current Number of Guilds x Average No. of Vet Characters in Top 10 Guilds. Klunky and missing all those unguilded characters, I know, but the best I could do for some sort of sequencing with the available data. And yes, I realize that making that calculation with data that's several months old for the eight shards that have no current data might put them in the wrong category. Can't be helped.

I know some of the numbers are going to be a bit hard to read, but you can always look at the actual spreadsheets if you want to see actual numbers and dates. The primary purpose of these graphs is to show trends and highlight, ONCE AGAIN, how many shards' data continues to go missing or is being deliberately suppressed.

Edited to add: Replaced Drachenfels and Mizuho charts with new ones because the originals didn't have 0 as the minimum for the vertical axis.

I thought for sure the history had been lost. This is an amazing thing that someone can recover so much information. It makes you wonder if people will read or look at things like this in 100 years from now.

I'm not sure though, if you can blame AoS for the decrease or the lock of new players. I completely blame the guild system itself and even the top 10 list came into play, I think for alot of people who wanted to be #1 or most powerful.

What the guild system basically did, was just take Trammel, newly created and turn guilds into the new Felucia. Growing a guild was easy, you basically had a core structure, I think we had about 25 solid, awesome people and then the people that knew people, who were new people, were a constant, also people who saw you out hunting or at the bank would ask to join.

Once you got on the top list of 10, you could do 10 characters a day. So, we accepted everyone but at the same time we had our problems. Guildmates killing other guildmates, stealing and members would come to you constantly. I think during this time I learned to handle 5 or 6 conversations at a time but the important conversations were always the people coming to me, telling me what happened, who did what.

So, then the banning started and this caused multiple problems because you would lose friends of friends and it was just a big mess. One day somebody killed someone, might of even been a few people, I don't know why they got angry but everyone came to me, that was killed, so, we had to ban them. The next day, the player was waiting outside and told me that they were sorry and they didn't know what to do, that all they did was play UO and that they loved us. So, of course we called another Council Meeting and we changed some rules, that characters would no longer be account banned, where we would ban all of there characters and that any player that asked to come back into the guild would be given a second chance.

It got out of hand. Alot of peoples lives were affected and it became very difficult to manage. Brand new players could join one day and be all 120 the next, simply killing everyone. One of the interesting things to me, was that people would leave the guild. Some would start their own, some would join another but eventually most of them would just leave the game to play WoW, which interestingly enough, is the Trammel ruleset.

So, rather than putting people through the constant chaos, we decided to cut back, rather than continually grow. People would look at the top 10 guilds and infiltrate them, kill everyone, forcing people out into their guilds. It just got really ugly and if you're able to track the characters themselves, I think you would see, they were most active in their original guilds but as they were burnt down to the ground and rebuilt so many times, they were forced to change. Some guilds got lucky enough to avoid this from happening but that doesn't make them a good guild and the sad part is, most of those players are gone that were from those core groups.

I'm looking at the date for Atlantic and I see a huge spike in number of guilds during the second half of 2005. What was this about? I was retired at this point, so I have no clue what would have caused it. It doesn't appear the population mushroomed, so is it just bad data? Or did some publish cause guilds to become insanely more popular for a short amount of time?

Oh and wonderful job Tina. I'm really impressed. :D

    Thanks, ChReuter!

I believe the spike in guild numbers in the second half of 2005 was probably caused by the Mondain's Legacy expansion. Someone else would have to explain why it might have made guilds more popular for a time. I was still fairly new to UO at the time and pretty immersed in just trying to figure out how to play!

I have a theory. I think you could call it the copycat age. Alot of people thought it would be easy to start a guild and run a successful operation, I think, mainly because of Trammel.

One of the reasons I started a guild was because the GM of CHK wanted to keep the guild small. So, I left and started one of my own. There were also alot of things I wanted to do but could not.

When I created the guild, I thought about all the different things to try to be the best and the first. Laws, Rules, Council, Titles, Storyline, Events but it turned out to be alot of work. Some of the Council Members would complain that it was worse than a full time job and you took a big chance. For example: With titles and colors. If people didn't like those things, they would not like your guild.

So, you had hundreds of people that would join and think they could do a better job because people would always put the blame on somebody. So, I think, what you would see happening, the people would start their own guild with a variation of their original guild and they would even come back and tell me, "I think you have to many people on the Council, It's not a Democracy." So, some of the guilds were successful but most of them were not.

I remember this one guy even made a COS 2. He took me to the guild house and everything was identical, not the tower but everything else. So, I think you would of seen this happening in all of the guilds, on all of the shards.

One of the things I always find interesting when looking at these figures is how many guilds there are on the Japanese shards but how much smaller they are than elsewhere.

Maybe I missed it somewhere, but how are you getting accurate information when UO.com hasn't been updated in months?
Most of the West coast shards have very wrong numbers, people in wrong guilds/alliances and people not even on the shard anymore.

Flutter, on each of the Google spreadsheets at the links in the first post of this thread, you'll find in the upper left hand corner a URL that takes you to the page on the UO website that I go to for data. I take guild totals and vet characters in the top 10 guilds and number of warring guilds from those pages. Then I click on the link for every one of the top 10 guilds and look up the total number of actual characters in each guild so I can keep track of both veteran and actual characters in each guild. (For Balhae, I have to look at the source code for a guild page URL to do this because two guilds there don't show up on the shard page with a clickable link, probably because the guild abbreviation contains nondisplaying characters.) I also mark the "actual characters" number for a guild in purple on a particular day if there was no guild leader listed on that date for the guild. Then I copy the guild number totals, veteran characters in top 10 guilds, actual characters in top 10 guilds, and number of top 10 guilds with no active guild leader to another spreadsheet that keeps track of this summary data for all the shards. I've also got a spreadsheet set up to keep track of the total number of guilds and the vet characters in the top 20 guilds.

Since I started tracking these figures again earlier this month, I've found that some shard pages (and shard faction pages) are updated daily by EA with actual numbers and the pages for eight other shards show a fresh update date and time but no values whatsoever.

If you see numbers in my posts for a particular shard and a particular date, those numbers came from EA's website. If you see a note that says, "No data available," it means there are no numbers on the page. I just use what they post, unless it's wildly inaccurate (e.g., two times in the last couple of weeks, the Great Lakes page showed that GL had over 4,000 guilds and the next day the number of guilds dropped to something consistent with the day before the wildly inflated number was posted).

I have no explanation for why EA continues to make meaningless updates on a daily basis for these shards: Baja, Chesapeake, Lake Austin, Lake Superior, Napa Valley, Origin, Pacific, and Sonoma. I also don't know why they don't seem to care that the "top 20 guilds" and the faction pages are also affected by these omissions. I've made several posts about it and so have a number of other folks but no one from EA ever replies. I've seen Phoenix in this thread, so I know at least one person on the UO team has glanced at it and may have actually read enough of it to be aware of the problem.

I hope anyone who doesn't trust what I'm posting will do themselves and me the favor of looking at both the UO website page and what I post and definitely let me know if I've slipped up somehow with the numbers I'm posting.

Hmmm....I think you must be having trouble displaying the pages and/or might not be looking at them very often or maybe haven't reviewed them recently. You might want to clear your browser cache and see if that makes a difference.

When I look at the guild pages and the top 20 guilds page, I see different update dates, times, and data every day. Granted, the data shows a steady decline in guild totals and top 10 guild characters on every shard, but the data is very consistent from one day to the next (with the exception of two days when GL had some very odd guild totals). Also consistent is the time of day when the pages are updated. The only changes I've seen in the times have been with a couple of the Japanese shards during the last week (probably because of server hardware work) and Atlantic's update time seems to have gone back to earlier in the morning like it was last fall. GL's update time still seems to be later than it was a couple of months ago. And once in a while, there's nothing posted for one or another of the 19 shards that have been showing updated numbers.

I made screen shots of all 27 shard guild pages and the main page with the top 20 guilds a little while ago and plunked them into albums on Photobucket. You can access them here, one album per day: UO Guild Pages. You'll find 25 screen shots in the February 27th folder and three in the February 28th folder.

I'll try to post screen shots of the guild pages every day for the next week or so, if I have time. I don't know any other way to demonstrate for you that yes, the numbers do actually change in a consistent manner from one day to the next. I can't tell you how accurate they are, but I can tell you that they definitely CHANGE from day to day, so it's not at all accurate to say that for 19 shards out of 27 the data is not being updated. It IS being updated.

I assure you quite a few of my characters aren't in my guild anymore(nor are they showing on character search) and people I have recruited recently aren't showing. Guilds that were created recently are not showing. Guilds that are allied aren't showing.
This page shows my guild as the top guild (for #s) on Catskills. Not only is it not showing half of my peoples characters many aren't showing at all and I know GRI has more characters than I do. I have approximately 125 active characters at this time in my guild. This page shows 58 and it's dropping every day. It most certainly is not being updated. Players are dropping off the list as their "logged in in the last 30 days" time expires.

    PS
Have you not noticed that in your comparison pictures all the numbers have just gone DOWN?
    lol

They aren't going down because the page is updating, the numbers (on all of your comparison pics) go down because the pages aren't updating and people's characters are falling off the grid.

Our guild on Atlantic has over 80 members that have been logged in within the last 30 days according to our in-game guild roster. The Myuo stats only shows us with 23 members. Something's not right...

Well, I'm glad some people who actually have characters in large guilds on the shards that still have figures available have FINALLY piped up with some details on why the numbers are questionable instead of just saying they aren't being updated. The characters on my couple of accounts that are still active are almost all either unguilded or in small guilds on west coast shards that don't have figures of any kind. I have no success trying to check on them via the website.

Maybe EA will fix the problem or at least address it before their web site makes it look like most of the shards are virtually empty of guilds and characters.

I'll keep following the numbers for a while longer just to see if they show any change. However, it would be helpful if people who have characters in the top 10 guilds on the shards that still have data being published could also keep an eye on things and provide specific feedback occasionally on what they are noticing so EA gets the idea that people actually do look at those pages and try to use the information. I still think the website is the responsibility of the community people like James Nichols and Kai Schober and their boss, Rowland Cox, and that they probably aren't even aware of the problem or even know who can fix it if they do know about it.

The numbers will go down every day until there are 0 unless whomever is in charge of it gets it fixed. (this has happened before)

(Fact is my guild should be showing higher numbers than usual because everyone logs in all their characters for holiday gifts.)

Edit: in case you don't know I am the GM of Visiofelicitaphiliacs on Catskills.

Yep, figured that out after seeing your name show up the first day or two I pulled numbers.

Thanks for popping in and straightening me out. I'll just try to fade into the woodwork for now and hope Cal or someone else eventually gets around to fixing the website figures. Can't imagine it's to anyone's benefit to let it look like UO's numbers are falling like a rock....

It is an excellent project, Tina. If only you had access to accurate numbers. :(

It's frustrating because I use it often to see what guilds are allied on different shards or who is in what guild now that they've changed it so your tags don't necessarily show.

It's pretty discouraging to realize how much time I wasted in the last two weeks working with bad data.
