House Boats and Sea Expansion...

I feel this expansion should of had alot more added to it and I hope over time they will address alot of the experience that is missing.

I would of liked to have seen, for example, alot more boat types or styles.

It would of been nice to be able to place a dock infront of your house, if you're close to the ocean.

House boats would have been a great addition. 18 x 18 house boats might be possible. Certain rules of spacing and deep water only would of made these very nice. You could imagine a fisherman living on a house boat, where he's able to fish from his home, place cannons and throw nets. New custom for house boats only.

The sea should of been expanded. It could of been doubled in size and all land masses could of been connected to one body of water.

The quest system should be added to by creating dock masters at all sea ports for trade between cities, where players fish, then sell their fish, causing demand in certain cities, raising and lowering prices. This would of created an important economical aspect and trade routes.

By increasing the size it would of made traveling from one sea port to another more of an experience, where dangers could of been added that only experienced fishermen would only know how to navigate around.

Storms at sea and other natural affects could of been added, considering they are sailboats. Gusts of wind could take your ship off course or even stall your ship as well as rough seas and high winds could speed it.

I just expected to see alot more of the basic set up. For me, those are some of the things I would of expected.

I think your ideas, while good, fit the idea of an "expansion," whereas High Seas was a "booster" ... or ... a lightweight version of an expansion. I'm sure the developers wanted to add more just as much as we would have liked more.

I may be easily amused, but I feel that the way we can color the few ship models we have, and how they are represented in the overhead radar by that color, is pretty neat. However, while many like the idea of a House Boat, I am cautious to like that idea.

It's rather hard, now, to navigate with so many ships out in the world. I can't imagine trying to set sail around 18x18 houseboats ... maybe if they were added to a new water-based facet, but I wouldn't want them in Britannia.

I agree the trade system between cities could have been more elaborate, and possibly, easier for the user. Fishmonger quests, for example, should have been given a loyalty rating or something, as suggested by another poster a few days ago.

They should have added housing plot at sea you could somehow win or earn. That would have been pretty snazz.

I would have liked some sort of "dock" that you could afix to a shore if you were very lucky and this "dock" would allow you to park a boat and not have to constantly refresh it. Tying your boat to your own dock would keep it pristine and repairs made at your own dock would be cheaper or something...

But alas that's not the case.

As for houseboats.... Already even limiting the ships to one per person the seas are becoming quite clogged ...... could you imagine a ship 3 times as wide as what we have or maybe even 4 and about as long clogging up the seas? Where would you park the things? I don't know I'm not sold on the whole houseboat idea. If they moved about as quick as a rowboat... perhaps. If they had some sort of dock you could park your regular ship by.... maybe.

I still like the dock idea. I could see a docking system where if you were in a guild and you "pooled" your resources you could create a town dock. But I think a limit for one dock per account would be wise. You wouldn't want docks to be one per character there wouldn't be an open spot on any shore. I think if they really thought about where docks could be placed having a personal dock for your account could be really neat.

And if they could make some way where guilds or towns could create a larger dock by pooling resources one that would get them perhaps the ability to put up a fishmonger and perhaps things of that nature... then it would be a community builder. Allowing towns or large guilds to build their own port one that could be damaged by enemies and pirates perhaps... that would require repair... and perhaps one that if you did that would require some sort of maintenance to keep... but offered rewards and incentive to work together I would prefer that.

But those are just my thoughts.

That's some very good ideas. I've been concerned about docks, if ever implemented, being placed everywhere. My first thought was that they'd have to degrade and require upkeep, something that would make docks a communal affair. I still think they'd need a little of this, but if they added in your idea of possible attacks from pirates and such, then the general decay could be minimum.

I really like the idea of your ships not requiring upkeep while docked there. Instead of "personal docks", you could have rented personal piers. With the Docks being owned by a town/city.

I wouldn't expect to see anything like this until they come up with a much more robust player city system. The same sorts of things like this can be used for other communal efforts, constructions, etc. I'm hoping that when they propose whatever it is to Mythic at the end of the year, that these kinds of ideas help them come up with a great player city system. Then maybe we can see a really big upgrade to UO, something really special.

Well with the implementation of the Banners I was seriously hoping that things would improve on that front.

And adding ports and piers to player towns seems to me that it would certainly be a benefit to creating a town and banding together... FOR good not evil.

There has to be a way to be able to sail from one point to another point, anywhere in the game. It would of been nice to have had dungeons you could sail into and then fish from your boat. If there is water in a dungeon then there might have been a possible way in, using a boat.

Tieing the seas together as one and creating one large land mass, is also a very important step. I don't understand why this has not been done already and is not a priority for future expansions. To be able to, for example, connect another land mass to an existing land mass, where a character could continually walk from one area to another, rather than having to recall, to say Ilshanar or the Lost Lands.

The sea you would think would be a very easy thing to expand and connect considering you don't have to add trees, buildings, cities, just add water and connect.

When I started playing, the ocean seemed pretty big but now it seems small and because it's not connected together, it's hard to visualize what it would be like if it was all connected together.

House boats could of been made so that you have to refresh them every day, making them difficult to maintain and would of been great for new players who could simply buy a house boat and have a place to live. Even, a 4 x 6 boat would of been pretty big living quarters, considering when I started playing, I had a 4 x 4.

By adding to the sea they could of designated parts of it for house boats. Anywhere else the house boat is left, it would begin to sink. There could of been an anchor, where once you drop the anchor, you have established a house.

Also, spacing in these areas could of been one screen. Again, considering the size of the sea, couplings could of been ok'ed by the players. So, 2 boats could of been side by side, as long as there was enough room around them. Simply by adding more or connecting the seas together and making them deep water only, would of probably been enough.

I hope to see crabbing boats and lobster boats, clam boats and so much more added.

As far as the docks, this had already been through the ringer. If you own an 18 x 18 and your house was on the water front, then you could place an 18 x 4 dock because this would of been the size of the front of your house and if the house decayed, somehow the dock would be connected, then the dock would also decay.

Several of us on Chessy called for sailing access between Britain (tram and fel) and Tokuno much in the same manner that we sail between Britain and Lost Lands. This was done months ahead of the announcement of High Seas Adventures, it was done at the Town Hall where it was announced, and it was done during the Beta/Open Testing. I'm not sure if this is on the Dev's plate or not, but it should be.

I'm not so sure about house boats or giving special features for being tied to a pier, but it would be nice to allow player towns to get a pier. I just don't think there's going to be any kind of control put into place as to who can or who can not park there. I'm not even sure if there should be one.

I remember a time when boats were allowed in dungeans and EA considered them an exploit. So you ask them to introduce an exploit into game again? :p

They should just connect the seas with different saying at the serpent pillars.

As for special docks and boats .. they should sell that for $5 each.
