So I've been wanting to do this for awhile, and so every Sunday night I'm going to sit down the housing tiles available to us and discuss opportunities for improvement, in graphic detail, and provide suggestions on what can be done to make it better.

This week, because I love the tileset so much, because it's new, and because it feels oddly incomplete, I'm going to start with the new Gargoyle Reddish Brown wall set (not going to tackle the carvings portion of it this week, just the base wall set).

This is the existing portion of the tileset that I'm looking at today:

So, to begin with, I want to show how the walls currently line up, and how I suggest they improve:

On the left side is how the wall pieces currently line up. As you notice, the far west and far north corners at the edges don't have the same color to them, but rather are the internal grayish color used in other places. My first suggestion then is that all of these wall pieces need to adopt the reddish hue to them. Mind you, I'm okay with them leaving in the gray edged ones too, because someone might be going for that look, but to me, it feels incomplete without the reds matching up. To that end, these tiles should look like:

This will allow you to use any of the pieces in the current set as an edge piece.

Of course, this brings us to the next piece, which is the thin corner piece. Currently, it has a red south face, and a gray east face, which seems odd. So I suggest the following piece be added:

The next pieces to look at are the short wall pieces. Currently, there are only two of them... the short east facing and short south facing. Like their larger cousins, they are gray on the edges, and so I suggest that they add these two pieces:

    [IMG] [IMG]

Of course, that illuminates another issue. Because there are only the two short pieces, you cannot use them to make a full short wall, as there is no southeast corner piece nor thin northwest corner piece. Thus, the following two pieces should also be added to make that set complete:

There is only one more issue to raise, and that is displayed in the following image:

As you can see in the left half, the tiles don't stack well with each other. Now, they probably wouldn't look that good stacked anyway because of their gradiated color scheme, but some people might do it anyway, in which case, these tiles should all come one pixel down to line up better (as displayed in the right half). The right half illuminates yet another issue, this time with the wall piece that has the thin gray outcropping on it... it clearly doesn't go as tall as it should.

So that's it, that's the first week of this, and I could be at this for the next few weeks, but I promise every week to bring issues like this to light. I love custom housing, and I hope that through this effort and discussion, we can make the tilesets more complete to make even better houses!

(Edit - Also, if anyone at Mythic wants the masters of the files above, I'll be happy to send them along if they'll speed up the update process. I just want to see complete tilesets.)

Some of the tiles don't line up properly in this tileset btw. Like the thin northwest corner piece sits too low or is too short, and that wall you used next to the northeast corner looks misaligned as well. Quite of a few of the tiles actually dont line up well. I don't know why, if it's some kind of art to code translation thing or just sloppiness or different artists with different methods or what.

God I wish I thought they would even look twice at this but I'm almost 100% certain they never will, but you go! you rock. Next time though give us the current tiles as is and then the ones you suggest next to them =) would be easier for people to see what needs added =)

I vote 100% yes on any thing like this being done for any of the tile sets =)

    Updated as requested. :)

And for next week's, I'll be sure to add the tileset in to begin with. :)
