How about a new defensive attact for dragons? Multiple Player attack.

For PvM if PvP is to problematic.

The large monsters in Ultima have the benefit of being large. Im sure other monsters can come to mind. But dragons.

How about giving them the ability to use their tail to swat across a group of players. damage minimal 5 to 20 max. Tile radius significant. What it does... stuns you for a few seconds. Disrupts mages, arches, warriors. Just something for the battle.

A muliple player strike from a monster.

How many multiple player attacks do monsters have in this game?

It seems pretty low.

I'd say dragons and other large creatures have enough power. No need to make them indestructible with 1 hit kill ability.

I have been working up a new character on LS the other night. I have been working inscription and made myself some of these new slayer books. OMG, talk about a bad idea. LOL, I went into Despise and went to gather some gold off earth elementals. Now my mage is scrolled up (110s in most mage skill areas) with inscription just about GM'd (98.8). One Flame Strike for 130+ damage and they fell like mongbats versus a GM fighter.

IMO, the PvM game has gone too far. It really doesn't take much to kill them. Now by the way the dungeon was empty, I can tell the PvMers have moved to tougher monster spawn areas, but back in the day. This area was a prime location for new players to work on skills while bringing in some coin.

Just my 2 gp...la

In PvP this could work too if the damage only hit agressors and not by passive so it could be abused.. I would love to see all creature use more special attacks that have limit like our own.. that CAN be disrupted.. When they took casting speed and extended the range from casting monster, it took me a while to adjust. Other than casting 3 screens off I find this added alot more fun.
If creature could not be led so far away and many don't heal, it allows player to hit and run and chip away at the target. In some ways this is bad allowing a player that could never stand toe to toe have a much larger impact then they should be able to.

Some creatures have this effect already. With the necro wither spell and the putrid ess sick cloud. The Ant critter ppl spill acid that use to eat a EV in 2 secs flat. Dragon breath should be area attack not a spit fireball.. You know roast fleeing villagers on the hoof as they fly over cooking the country side. Setting the farms ablaze. Wholesale slaughter of every living thing around.

Dragons are one of the creature I have long thought were WAY underpowered considering many player have Dragon Order names that stemed from the powerful lending credit to our skills. But in PvP the damage to put out does not work well for balance.

But alas I have often thought Halberds should have had range of 3 steps and long swords two getting smaller to dagger then to touch at 0 but that should have been done from the get go.. So many ppl do not want change in their beloved UO. I think this should be given more thought and talked about much more..

Why would it be a good idea.
Why would it not be a good idea..
Why not leave it as is..

I have never been on to leave it alone.. make it hard make it fun..make it rewarding.

I miss being able to lure pets into gates. It used to be fun to watch the tamers cry when we would gate their weapons away. It's funny how quickly they would die after this happend...la

Raven, I'm pretty sure this already exists. Just have someone go blackrock-infect a dragon. Then stand next to it in passive mode and see what happens.

It's too bad that most people don't think that way. Everyone wants everything now. You just have to look at pvp - so many people want to make it easier, not harder to kill someone. Where's the accomplishment in that? Sure, you can rack up several hundred kills, but they're mostly meaningless and forgotten in a short time. If you had to work hard for your kills, you would remember them a lot more. In my humble opinion, of course.

Um, surely you don't wanna make the super dragons even more super? I mean, I love my dragons, but holy cow man, no more power. I was sure they were gonna nerf em.

I think I know what your thinkin about though. Something similar to whirlwind attack like swordsman have with radiant scimitar's? Well, I guess you could make a case on why dragons should have it, but as far as template balance goes, your dragons got 900+ HP, your dexxers.....don't.

*shrug*

I'd think you'd be fine with the fire breath, and the bleed attack they have. Not to mention the uber stats and l33t skillzzz.

Tell ya what, your dragon can get a tail lash attack if my swordsman can get a sheath for his swords that have mods on it :p

8. im sorry but making pets more powerful then they are already, should not be an option

I get the more power arguement.

But what Im saying is more a defensive move. Id be for even 10 damage max with a tail swing. And you stun and disrupted for a few seconds.

The thing is often PvM is set up hit, run, hit, run. And we chip away.

A dragon that swats it tail to knock down a bunch of casters, dismount a guy on an ethy.

Titians and cyclo have hammers. The could be used on groups.

Forget PvP.

Where I see we are at now. Its jack up monster damage, increase monster hitpoint.

I think we can find other ways to improve monster battles.

Take a dragon. Id much rather get the dragon tail swat vs jacking its hit points by 5k or something.

Even make the move with signal, to warn players.

Just thoughts for discussion.

Thinks back to D&D dragons ...

... wing-beat, wing-beat, claw, claw, bite, roll, roll, tail slash, breath weapon ...

I don't think drags in the game do enough. IMHO, everything should think twice about confronting a dragon, not just players. By rights they should be about the baddest things walking the planet.

I think it not being on a tame is the exact kind of discussion we need.

You can create options.

Again why does it have to be on a tamed dragon.?!. The topic reads nothing about tames .. but the OP does touch on it.. Again what about on the wild dragons?..
If this ability were to work on the same rules as a area effect on weapons does now, it would never hit the main target only the surrounding support. I have often thought area effect should hit the main target on impact aswell and the surrounding but not the case.. so if it were to follow those rules and lost on tame I like the idea.

How about drastically reducing pet damage, removing pet bonding, and making tamers actually do some of the work killing their target. Tamers need no boostings. They need nerfings. In PvP. And last I checked, they were too powerful in PvM too.

I always thought the idea of a tame dragon was akin with the idea of a dancing bear. The bear isn't actually dancing.

If we have such powerful pets, these pets should have a chance to rebel - and eat - their owners. Dragons are supposed to be intelligent, and bringing such power should have a decided risk.

edit: I haven't seen a dragon eat thir owner in - literally - years.

... come to think of it, I remember the days of running away from my own EVs. :p We can bring those back while we're at it.

And blades.

That was the best when I would kill myself with blades. The good ole days.

Didn't EV's used to have Harm Touch, and Bladed Spirits inflict Poison?

With how weak the BSpirit is now (considering cast delay) it should regain its poison (considering Ninjitsu Snake Form).

Yeah, UO could use a lot more of area effects and unique creatures with new abilities. There's a lot of unused animations in the client files that could be put to good use...

If you give pets multi-hit, it has to hit the owner, too :p. It'll be like the mass curse days again, haha.

I'd say no, though. Giving people hydras would be sorta nuts.
