How do i cast faster?

    Hi,

    I have a 6/2 ring set but when i ride or run and cast i am frozen for a few seconds while the spell happens, i have seen people cast while running or mounted running, any idea how to do this?

    I hate to burst your bubble but casting on the run is impossible at least for rightnow. You have no idea how many times "off screen" skill saved my ass. I have not yet to be killed by any mage 1v1 on the field just because my dexer has ledendary "offscreen" skill. If what you said was true then I would have been killed many times.

    Well unless theres some super uber crazy hack that can make your char ignore the hard casting "frozen" delay that applies to all players. You sure he didnt have a pet chasing you while casting? Pets are the only thing in game I know that ignores any and all casting rules.

    So basically a mage is absolute **** for pvp, you cast they run or fight and in the 2 second delay your either dead or they are away.

    Depends what you're casting.

    You can spam lesser heal VERY quickly, and even if one or two of them get interupted, you'll recover some amount of health.

    The bigger spells are best used either via ambush, or after successfully casting paralyze.

    Mages thesedays are more a supportive character than 1v1 superstar.

    Smart dexers should never die to other mages 1v1. You might not be able to kill the mage but its nearly impossible to die if you are smart enough to bolt out in straightline if you see the mage get off anything big. Magic arrow spams aint killing anyone decent.

    Mages are a lot more powerful when theres more than 1 working together. If you want to be 1v1 superstar play an archer/archer tamer or a evasion dexer.

    Dexers and archers are very difficult to kill on a mage becuase there are so many ridiculously over powered weapons in the game. The amount of valorite runic weapons in the game is staggering. Not only does a mage have to contend with the dice roll of the dexers swings(with 150 dex and hit spell,bleed,4-6 holy lights etc for additional disrupts)but any time a mage is actually able to get a combo of spells off the dexxers simply run offscreen chugging pots, spamming confidence etc. Dexxers do more damage per second than mages can and basicly dont need to stop at all to fire or swing. Add in the fact that the well known and commonly used, and never banned for speedhacks are out there and the dexer can be near impossible to kill. Add in pets(dread mares etc) and playing a mage becomes almost useless unless playing in groups. Even in groups crosshealing becomes difficult with repeated conc blows and mortal blows. The chain mortals in many ways defeats the purpose of cross healing since as soon as one eats an apple to remove a mortal the mage is often just immediatlely mortaled again. There definately needs to be another big pvp balance that adresses the overpowered weaps the chaining of mortal, conc blows, pets, and the speedhacks that compound the over poweredness of dexxers. Pvp has turned into little more than who runs the fastest and who has the gimpest weapon.

    Like I said many times before. The most powerful "skill" in UO PvP is the mobility. And anyone knows who has it the best and who has it the worst.

    If you wish to PvP as a mage solo then I advise you to play a tamer mage with dread + bake/mare combo. At least your pets dont have to stop and cast. If you just want to own people 1v1 without the need of actual player skill involved then play an dismount archer tamer with dread and bake, with 50ep and good balanced hxbow you will do a lot better in pvp. This way you have all the mobility with the ability to take mobility away from your enemies.

    The ceiling to a characters potential should be the learning curve it takes to master that character.

    Mages are by far the hardest to master, but they are by far not the best character to play.

    No but seriously, there's so much more to a mage than dropping exp>fs on somebody.

    Teleporting, curse, stone walls, paralyzing, energy fields, magic poison, invisibility, cross and self healing.....

    UO is not deathmatch online. As a mage, you dont have to stand there and try and go toe to toe with a dex monkey or archer. Use your territory, use your mobility, use your brain.:D

    As for the original post, I've never seen anyone run while casting MAGERY spells.

    If you don't know the difference in Magery and Chiv spells, you might be mistaking them because lots of Chiv spells can be cast on the run.

    And yes, some spells only take like .25 secs to cast so it may appear that they are not stopping. I dunno.

    Why hasn't anyone told this poor fellow there is a cap on Faster Casting? Everything except Chivalry is capped at Faster Casting. Chivalry is capped at Faster Casting 4 unless you have high Magery, then it drops to 2 as well.

    The fastest magery spell takes 2 ticks which is 0.5 sec to cast, and thats the cap casting speed (fastest) for all magery and necromancy spell.

    Amazing...

    If a character casts, sure, they'll stop to do it. But you might not see it happen if they don't stay still very long. It's lag. What happens on their screen won't instantly happen on yours, and the timing may vary.

    The logical answer to this is that they are precasting, and you are just seeing the words over their head after they already cast the spell.

    I do this all the time, precast explosion, then start moving. The words will still be over my head for a while, and I can resolve the spell without stopping, then stop briefly for the next part(s) of my combo.

    ahh, i miss the days of a nox/fencer mage. Precast para on some poor sob, then explosion/ebolt/ run in and deadly poison/armor ignore...

    ahh, those were the days. :)

    No one can cast while moving. If you could there would be nonstop topics complaining about it here on U Hall. Instead it is just once in a while. Either they are casting 1st circle spells or you are just lagging out really bad and they are able to stop, cast energy bolt, and catch back up to you.

    Moving shot needs a counter.

    But ganking is fun. I used to PvP for skill pre-AOS. Now it's gank-time =P. But every now and then you get a little retro, one-v-one same class action.

    But mage-wep mages can seriously rock it out, and then there are ninjitsu ds hlers. Lots and lots of templates you can run without bows or pets. Seriously, don't know why anyone would encourage people to devolve and add more crap archers or tamers to the PvP world.

    This is not true, Magery is capped at 2 while necro is capped at 3 and spellweaving is capped at 4 along with chivalry.

    Ohh and to that mortal chaining thing.. Yeah, Mortal needs same kinda resist thingy as Paralyze blow has atm.

    Real or adjusted, if you have magery above 69.9 you will be capped at 2casting.

    Hmmmm. I wonder why some of the mages i've killed have carried a PEN. Maybe they are trying to TRICK me into thinking they are being sneaky.
