How do you target Melisa?

Discussion in 'UHall' started by Trebr Drab, Jul 15, 2008.

I was there last night, and the crowd was so thick I I had real problems trying to target her. I did get in the end of one battle and got a cloak and ticket, but it was pure luck.

I tried the various macro "target next" and whatever, but none of it seemed to allow me to target just "enemies", as I was getting allot of pets and even players with it.

ctrl shift..drag her health bar off....attack the health bar

Even with that it took a while because people throw loot on the ground. which causes alot more handles on the screen. Add the items to the other pets, players, and decor.

I believe it's to look under stuff because you cannot put the items back into the pack at a different location becuase it cannot hold more weight.

Maybe that targeting system they implemented a while ago might help some people? I don't know, I've never really used it.

  5. In 2d, when using meelee are archers all I did was go to war and double click the Red name, archers shot on auto, and the swords would hit her as soon as I move closer, also clicking her red name pulls up the paperdoll and you can get the status bar off it. Then Command pets or summons to attack.

The problem is that there were so many players and pets there, as well as dead corpses and items, that I had a real tough time with "All Names", Cont/Shift, and anything else I tried.
Cont/Shift, I tried right clicking to delete all the names that kept Melisa covered up, but everything was moving so fast her name stayed buried.

The targeting system they added a while back is no use with such numbers. There were at least 30 players there, probably 50, plus pets and corpses.

If Cont/Shift had an option to put players names at the bottom instead of the top, it would be a big big help. Or maybe Alt/Shift? If that's not being used already.

    I use object handles usually.
I try to get her healthbar out before people crowd her first though.

Of course, I'm using EVs and/or Nature's Furies at the start, so I'm still doing damage while trying to get her healthbar out.

How I finaly Settled this for me.

    I use the ctrl+shift.

Then I start right clicking all the tags in the area I think she is in (that closes the tags).

When I get a hint of her tag I go for it.

  10. Well when she pops up, she has a yellow name, after the speach she gives she changes to a red name, if you been sitting there a while, there is no need to use all names or ctrl shift as she is the only one that is new.

Then I do the above each time and never miss.

  11. Trebr Drab

    Trebr Drab Guest

Yes, I thought of that just a few minutes ago. Set "show player names" or whatever that is so that as new names come on screen they show up for a few seconds. She not only changes to a red name, but she teleports at the same time, I believe.

  12. yep

  13. I use Ctrl & Shift and usually guess which of the red names it's likely to be by how much the tag is jumping around. (guess as theres usually half a dozen animates/ev's also in red)

    Never failed like that.

Damn, this just isn't working for me. This is damn frustrating. Some players seem to have absolutely no problem here. That's all I'm going to say for now.

But to say I'm pissed would be a f_*#ing understatement.

something else you could try... set your macro to "target next" beside it "hostile". Before someone says this wont work theres more!! (cause this macro seems to only work if she is aggro to you for some LAME reason or another)

When she finishes blabbing toss over a conflaguration potion. Then hit your macro. Just beware of the balron and imp in the same area.

Hope that helps ya. its much easier than trying to grab the bar with the shift-ctrl. and any other useless macro that there is (targetnext mobile rings a bell)

Do an area spell like Wither, Meteor Swarm or Holy Light - then, "Target Nearest>Hostile".

Ya, I had a hard time with this one as well. I just ctrl-shift then right click away the ones I didn't want. It was still difficult, but I got better at it after a few rounds.

How is it better?(I'd like to know a better way!) With the handles, in 2D, you can right click to close the ones you don't want/need. In KR you have to click the 'x'. In 2D the 'All Names' allows double-clicking of the name, I don't think KR allows clicking of the name...

Area damage attacks can pull up the auto life bar in both clients I believe. AoE: Explosion/Conflag Potions(any char), Chain Lightning/Meteor Swarm(mage), Wither(necro), Holy Light(paladin).

EV & NF are summons that auto attack. I haven't tried NF so I'm not sure how effective they are against her, EVs alone got me a ticket/cloak.

KR's attack enemy macro works differently than 2D's attack hostile. It cycles thru targets based on notoriety rather than aggro. In Melissa's room, this means the macro will only cycle thru Melissa, the imp, balron and any red summons (vortex and furies).

Object handles, KR can choose to show mobiles only. So if the problem is a lot of stuff on the ground, you can choose this option.

KR does allow single clicking the hovering all names to set the target window. In a crowded room like Melissa's tends to be, this isn't so easy tho.

Finally, you can mod KR. So you could change object handles so you can right click close them as well. You could also filter out all object handles so only Melissa's object handle shows when you control shift. This also gave KR modders an advantage during the stranger looting since they could filter handles for the magical lockbox, crimson, taint etc.

  24. Trebr Drab

    Trebr Drab Guest

You have got to be kidding me!
So then KR modders can also do that with the items that are on Melisa.

Damnit, Devs. You claim you're against cheating and trying to do something about it, then you build in ways for players who know how to do it too?

KR modders can hide object handles and (maybe - haven't tried this myself) remove them from the list of objects in a container.
It can't be modded to automatically loot or pick up those objects.

I'd say this should be enhanced to a standard filtering feature that works server-side that both clients can take advantage of... with the quantity of items in the game it's ridiculous not to have ways to quickly and easily sort through them.

It's in the KR client. It's not something a player has to modify outside of the user settings menu. I get accused of script looting all the time... it's just that KR looting works better. You can see everything on the corpse instantly, the good stuff filters to the top of the list, and a right click pops it in your backpack. These are all things that everyone would know if they actually took the time to explore the client and didn't just give up after 5 minutes because it isn't exactly the same as 2d.

Not like there weren't any loot scripters that could loot faster than the 10 KR users in all of UO....

  28. Trebr Drab

    Trebr Drab Guest

First of all, if it's that much better than 2D the feature should be added to 2D. There's no need to have this situation come up, where players are surprised to learn about it after loosing out on chances to other players.

Secondly, yeah, right, I'm going to explore a client that I didn't like for several reasons in the first place.

Thirdly, wtf, why have two clients that seem to be so different in many aspects? This game is being run like a twice baked potato in a popcorn factory.

True, like they're doing anything about that anyways by making static spawn with top loot instead of spreading it out with random loot. Tailored for scripters in more ways than one with these new events.
But the fact remains that now with the ability to Mod things on the ground and in the backpack, there are now legal ways to beat out the other players.
And you can be sure that the best mods will be kept to close friends. After all, have you heard about them yet? Any mention anywhere publicly?

They (UO people) haven't even seen fit to talk about our options. This is bull crap.

The rest of us players expect a fair game experience, and the UO dev team has given us the opposite, in cooperation with the elite players who know every detail, and even in cooperation with cheaters by making game play tailored to their best scenario.

The KR Client has been out for a year, and looting has been the same way since the public beta began. At this point, if you aren't familiar with its features, it's your fault. There has been plenty of time for you to look closely at the two clients and determine which one would be more advantageous for you. I'm not sure what "in the first place" reasons you had for not liking KR, but now apparently there's something you might like, so maybe you should give it a chance.

btw, there are 2 clients because people like you refused to play KR and they wanted your subscription money as well as mine. I'm not sure they need to enhance your client OR dumb mine down... Only time will tell.

That's not my fault, and I should not be expected to know every last detail of this game to expect fair play. Especially when it's in regards to simply running the game.

And that doesn't answer to the Kingdom Reborn Mod situation. Where's the KR Mods that put me and everyone else on equal footing and fairness with the programmers and their friends that are using them to have such a big advantage over the rest of us?

And why does UO support this uneven game play that allows some players this advantage?

I was using ctrl-shift but people were pre-emptively dumping ev's in the spawn area so it got a bit confusing with all the red tags swarming her.

I use All Names now, as hers has uppercase letters (summons don't), double-click her name to bring up her paperdoll, click off the status bar, then war or all kill via that. Sounds a little involved but I haven't had a problem with it.

I suppose if you had a paladin or necro-dexer , you could move in then holy light/wither... so long as you got her and not a paragon balron or something.

KR was designed to allow users to customize the interface, and everything I saw regarding the client prior to release indicated that would be possible. However, I've never modified the client from what UO has released through the normal patch system. Everything I've referred to in my posts is part of the un-modified KR client.

It's my opinion that KR was designed to put people who weren't interested in 3rd party applications or the 2D client on equal footing with those who were. I never used Assist or UOAM and was always told that I was missing out. But really, I have no idea if I was or if I wasn't because I never tried it. How can you really judge whether or not you are at a disadvantage just by reading posts? Perhaps you truly aren't?

This is quite possibly the worst logic that I have ever witnessed on these boards.

First there's the fact that you apparently believe that there is a secret KR Mod Cabal functioning solely to screw you over personally. If you want to use these mods, you could just download the damn things. We had an entire subforum devoted to KR where people freely gave out these mods to anyone who asked; where people actually had a list of mods in their signatures ready for download. Or, on the other hand, you could always learn to mod yourself. But I suppose you might believe that the Freemasons and Illuminati will get wind of this and have you assassinated for encroaching upon their sacred rites.

Of course, that doesn't even really matter, because we're not actually talking about mods. Everything I saw listed was part of the standard KR client.

And then there's this little gem:
When you have a choice between two options, you cannot refuse one of the options and then complain that you have no choice. Don't refuse to use KR and then complain that those who do use KR have some sort of advantage over you. Your access to that avenue is not restricted, you just refuse to drive down it.

I don't even know where to start on this one. This is apparently directed at the thought of simply learning how to use the KR client, the logical extrapolation of which would be "Then how the hell do you ever accomplish anything in this game? Because at some point, you had to learn the 2d client."

I hate to break it to you, but you are never going to see your definition of "fair play." Because there is always going to be someone who knows more about the game than you, and you apparently find learning new things to be downright bourgeois.

NextEnemyTarget on hotbar bound to Ctrl-Alt-G which is in turn bound to Nostromo key 10 which is placed right under my left index finger. Slam on that key until the name comes up in the Targetted gump/icon and then double click the gump to attack.

Edit: Object Handles can be filtered in KR in the User Settings menu both in what types of handles are shown (corpses, mobiles, objects) as well as the number shown onscreen at a given time (50, 100, all in range).

Also looting in KR is just a simple click, and with list and grid views, you don't have to move stuff around to sort through the loot.

All of these are done WITHOUT any of the UI Mods. Also, the UI mods released thus far by and large have only added or changed the way information is viewed. Information though IS power, and being able to see your tithing points, sextant coords and so on at a glance make a HUGE difference.

The ONLY thing that keeps a player from gaining the advantages KR players have over 2d players are the players that refuse to use the KR client.

  37. Trebr Drab

    Trebr Drab Guest

Yes, I refuse to use the KR client. It's gawd awful ugly, and I literally can't stand the avatar art with the grasshopper legs, T. Rex arms, and gray dingy sloppy look. Moving past that there's all the bugs. Then there's the Mods, downloaded from people you don't know, for that extra security squeek you always wanted on your computer.

Cogniac, screw you. I have a legitimate complaint and you don't have a place throwing insults at me for that.

No, I'm not going to learn to code just to play a game. No, I'm not going to spend all my time looking for every code advantage, every nook and cranny to get a leg up (presumably a very long KR 3D grasshopper leg) on other players.

What I most definitely do have a complaint about is that they have been supporting gold sellers and cheaters all along. Always claiming that they are doing something about it. Sometimes banning accounts (like that really hurts the farmers and cheaters). But always continuing the same system that makes it so easy for cheaters, as I already pointed out. The static spawns with known goodies. The heavy time requirements to get runics.

And now you want to convince me that this is all my fault for not knowing.
    Bull****.
Why didn't they promote this KR looting feature?
Why didn't they add it to 2D?

And looking at it with some searches, it's not easy at all. This is a definite advantage for those who know lua or have the time to search and figure out how to apply what they find.

And it's not even about the KR looting features.

    Now read this again:
"Finally, you can mod KR. So you could change object handles so you can right click close them as well. You could also filter out all object handles so only Melissa's object handle shows when you control shift. This also gave KR modders an advantage during the stranger looting since they could filter handles for the magical lockbox, crimson, taint etc."

It's all a bunch of bull, and you players defending it are no doubt the ones who are taking advantage of it, at the expense of all the rest of us.

Yes, it seems that UO has thrust a choice on me. That's the one thing I agree with here.

I refuse to use the KR client.

That would be your own choice, but don't come whining to us that KR does things differently in the process.

If any KR mod crosses the dev's lines in terms of rules, they will inform us. I have already contacted Jeremy about this issue in regards to the "User's Patch Project".

The ONLY Thing the devs should be doing with 2d is updating event content... beyond that, just keep the client stable and let it fade into the sunset of obsolescence.

Oh and if you haven't seen KR since a year ago, you're running on outdated information and beliefs about the game.

Finally, yes, I've done modding for KR (admittedly, it's been more along the lines of combining other people's mods and tweaking as needed) and I'm proud of the mods I have created (which can be obtained via the links in my sig). In no way do they allow any kind of "cheat" and actually do MUCH LESS in terms of scriptability than UOA.

Oh and I don't play KR to get a "leg up" on other players... I play KR because 2d is simply too small and too limited for my system. KR runs better, looks better, fits better to the resolution I use, and has better inherent features than 2d.

You don't need to learn how to code to use KR. If you treated the group of modders who post here as friends instead of enemies, we would gladly show you how to set up a mod in KR to do things you want to do. We've been helping a LOT of people get KR installed, patched, running, get used to the interface, and generally make the most out of their KR experience.

But if you want to rail against us in fuax outrage over some percieved injustice that doesn't exist... go right ahead... who am I to stop you?

You are basically saying two things:
    1. You have discovered that KR users have advantages over you in certain areas, but you hate KR and refuse to use it. Thus, you consider people that use KR to be cheaters.
    2. You have discovered that there are people who have an advantage over you in a game because they have put more effort into that game. You find putting in the same level of effort yourself to be an affront to your very being. Thus, you consider people who put in more effort than you at a game to be cheaters.
    And then there's this:
lolwut? This doesn't even have anything to do with this thread or this discussion. I have no idea where this even came from. You pulled this topic out of thin air and then had the blatant audacity to accuse me of claiming that it is your fault that UO "[supports] gold sellers and cheaters." I don't even know what to say to that.

There is really no legitimate reply that I can make at this point. This has ceased to be a constructive discussion or even an unconstructive argument. This is you irrationally hating many things, including me, apparently, and then labelling everyone nefarious cheaters to reinforce your own view of the situation.

It wouldn't matter how much logic I or anyone else threw at you. You have decided how you are going to view things, and no amount of anything is ever going to change your viewpoint.

Trebr old friend I hope this helps...... I gave up with trying to pull her bar.... as an archer I personally have gone to running into the foray and casting a good holy light...... (hope like heck I"m not warred to anyone in there)... and then I just autowhack her.... I also have used the old conflag pot.... this works wonders...... as a dexer if you don't have chivy might I suggest tossing an explosion pot at her...... now if your a mage...... I really don't know cast ev's and hope they target her and not the balron..... as a necro you could wither ..... once you have hit her you should just auto target from there.

Hi MalagAste. Yeah, I figured out doing several options. But this has moved beyond that. I mean, how many of the special loot have you gotten?

And even trying to get looting rights in the first place is tough, since it takes time to get a target. But not for these others using the other client. It's very strange how fast a fairly large number of players are instantly attacking Melisa, under these circumstances. She even teleports as she turns red, and still there's this instant assault on her while I can't even tell where she is. The only way I know is because of all the players attacking her, following her like glue, and yet I usually can't even see her under all the players and etc.
