Just a throw out question to see how many different types of guilds are ran and the rules you have. Like guild banks/funding, distribution of loot, and guild credit for active particpating members. We are revamping our guild bank and asking the UO community for some new ideas.

I have noticed a growing trend lately with talking to other guilds and friends that they have players that like to wear the guild tags but dont really particpate with the guild but very needy. How do you all deal with that? I'm kind of like if you cant help the guild then you get no help from me type of tude. I believe in healthy strong united guild but not by numbers but more by quality of the people.

Sorry this is a bit long...

Mainly a pvp guild, but we do peerless and gather ingreds together in the abyss sometimes.

No guild bank, like some guilds have them.

Champ spawns... 120s.. if nobody needs it for building a char, they may get it. If more than 1 person needs it, they roll the dice. If everyone just wants it to sell... we roll the dice.

Everyone in our guild knows "whats fair" and if they showed up at the end of the spawn and helped with the last half of the champ, then they don't usually participate in rolling. (we use protection, btw, so these are the protector's 120s). If that person needs a 120 to complete a char then they might get a chance to roll for it.

Peerless... If we decide to do a big run on Mel, for example, than everyone gets a key (usually do mel, get a key, do mel again, get a key). We don't get the key on our own... plenty of people there to help you if you're struggling. We split the loot according to who's key we're on... they get the good loot, dyes and whatnot.

As far as pvm hunting (abyss) then it's whoever has looting rights. We don't split loot on this, thats just silly (haha, lol). We work together in this as far as resses and keeping each other alive.

That's it as far as loot. As for the second half...

It's more like a co-op than anything as far as resources. The gm doesn't regulate how someone might get something. If you decide to make a deal with someone in the guild, it's between the two of you. I'm sure any problems would be taken to one of the GMs, but in my 10 months in this guild, I haven't ever heard of anyone with a problem pertaining to this. Usually a problem with inordinate amounts of pots going missing from one of the pvp houses, but thats different.

We offer each other a reduced rate on SOTs if they need them and we have them. If you have a pendant of the magi and someone needs it, you're perfectly allowed to sell it to them. Usually the thinking is, if I sell it to them cheap, maybe when they have something they'll sell it to me cheap (not "cheap" but at a cut in price).

I got something, and I know so and so can use it and I can't use it, so maybe I'll give it to them. Maybe I'll sell it to them at a severely reduced rate, because I could use some money.

No-one ever runs out of insurance money unless they're being silly and not asking for a bit of help.

You don't have to give the 5mil leather you found at the idoc to one of the main crafters in the guild who helped you build your imbued pvp suit for free, and if you want to sell it you can. But... It would be the right thing to do and our members (my guildies) seem to understand this concept. Even the 12yr old who managed to sneak in understands it.

You aren't forced by anyone or "expected to by common consensus of acceptable behavior" to give something to someone else in the guild, and that's the great thing about it. Most people in our guild are either mature enough to understand "if I help someone, I can get help in return" and if they don't know it when joining, then they learn it quick enough.

It has a lot to do with being mainly pvp... you're only as strong as your weakest member, so it behooves you to help people when you can.

As far as someone just taking and taking and taking... again, I haven't ever heard even a whisper of a problem with this, but the GMs aren't dumb and I'm sure they could handle it.

Some people help in ways that don't have anything to do with resources. They might help someone learn and practice pvp, for example. They might offer tips in training. They may have found a really good idoc that there's a chance everyone could benefit from, etc.

That's my understanding of it, anyway :)

Quick question on the luck thing opening the corpse. Didnt the Dev's post about luck was factored at the end of the kill with the person with the highest? It didnt matter who opened the corpse or am I wrong?

  4. Sorry, I don't know who the "You Are" guild are, nor how they run their guild bank....:lick:

I don't remember what the deal is exactly. We seem to get something good almost every other peerless run though, so we must be doing something right :p

I guess going into particulars on that part of my post wasn't necessary since it was more about how we split up the loot than it is how we get it in the first place, and so I edited that part out (in attempts to try and to keep the thread on topic).

Are you in a guild that does peerless runs Zosimus? How do you guys split up the loot? Do you use a guild bank?

To set the stage we are a faction guild that does it all we do a lot of the peerless, a LOT of spawns and harvest ingredents in SA.

When it comes to peerless we do 1 of 2 things either we drop party once the boss is redlined and what you get on the corpse is yours... Or if we don't drop party we have one person loot the corpse and we roll for the good stuff with the highest number getting the first pick the 2nd highest number getting the 2nd pick and so on.

When we go to SA for the ingredents all ingredents we get goes towards the guild so we can imbue weapons or armor.

When we do spawns all pink scrolls that drop in your bag you get to keep and the protector gets to keep theirs also. Any 110's or 115's get donated to the guild and we bind those to make 120's and then we sell them on our guild vendor and use the gold to buy PoF for our suits or what ever else we need. The 120's we get from the spawn we roll on unless someone needs it for a char. If they need it for a char. then they auctomatically get in unless more than 1 perons needs it, then it gets rolled on. If no one needs any of the scrolls for a char then everyone rolls on the 120's and the highest number gets 1st pick and so on. And then any gold that you pick up from the spawn you get to keep.

Yes we do peerless and have a designated looter since we don't drop party. All loot is taken back and rolled for. Same for spawning in fel. You keep what you get in your pack and we roll for the protection scrolls. You can also donate the scrolls to the guild.

Part of my issues is how we have low attendance for guild events hence why I'm asking about how other guilds do their guild banks. If we do SA hunts in the abyss for the guild bank its usually the same people b/c all the ingredients go directly to the guild bank. If it's not for the guild then just a pick up SA spawn we get more to attend those. Same with fel spawning. 99% of the time I scout the spawns and we send out icq's and guild chat messages we are spawning. Then its like our guild came alive with people to spawn. So its kind of like the main core members do the work and the others still benefit when its convenant for them. Im just trying to figure out a good fair system that has incentives to make the work load fair for the one's who do majority of the work while the ones that only contribute here and there are still included.

This is one of the reasons I enjoy being in a small guild.

We drop party for all peerless.

When we spawn anyone that is going to use the scroll, even if they didn't attend it, gets it. There are certain people that take more now, but eventually they will contribute to the guild. Most of these players are returning players or one of us is making a new toon.

I am a firm believer in loyalty. That goes both ways. If I can contribute something to a fellow guildie, it is my duty to give it to them. They will help me out when the time arises.

It goes without saying that you should choose your guildmates wisely.

The issue isnt choosing wisely. You dont know what they will do until after they join. especially if they are a returning player they do need help whcih we do undterstand that. It just sometimes the help becomes a crutch.

Back on topic. Just trying to figure out a way to reward the ones that carry the load or should I just say forget it and drop the guild bank.

From the viewpoint of a multiple-guild leader in an alliance that is 99% PvM, here's an alternate view.

There's very little that is actually "guild" or "alliance" specific resources. Most of us have our own stuff, and if someone is new, returning, or otherwise in need, several of us will give or loan (no interest, and rarely a time limit to pay back) them resources and gold to get back on their feet.

For hunts, we typically break party to get each person their share, after the boss drops below 10%. On the other hand, there are times at peerless, when it's only alliance officers present, that we stay partied, and divide items by rolls.

The rare trips to a Fel spawn are more concentrated on getting people the scrolls they need, and any 120 we get will probably be needed by someone, even if not at the spawn. If it's a pack drop scroll, it's up to the person that gets it as to what the other person has to trade for it, but I've rarely seen it go above 50% of the typical Luna Vendor cost.

Gold (especially in Ilshenar) is picked up for the person that needs it most, at the hunt. Lately, similar dry-looting of the boss corpse is done, after people get the items they want, to supply alliance imbuers in training with residue.

People will routinely buy stuff at auction for other alliance members who don't make it to the auction (or similarly unable to bid), often as gifts.

IT really helps when you are a bunch of people who see each other as friends, rather than business associates.

simple players who are needy and do nothing with the guild. you tell those needy players from now on they need to do 4 things a week with the guild to be able to ask for something. If they do not want to then they can not ask for anything, and another member is not allowed to give them a hand out. but another member can take the needy player out hunting to help them earn gold to buy want they need. If the player was just in your guild to get hand outs will leave your guild once the hand outs stop, If they are seriously about being in your guild they will follow your rules.
