How many people really play Siege?

I was wondering that. Do you think there are 50 dedicated Siege players currently? I mean people who play at least once a week for an extented period of time?
Not to put Siege down or anything. Everyone should know I love Siege.
    just wondering.

At a quick count, there were 35 different Gilfane players alone who had logged in yesterday and match your description. So there are more folk than you think, but it is a big world out there. However, there is without doubt far fewer people than a year or two years ago.

Well lets see, it took 6 months for them to get us publish 16 (they should have kept it), it took them well over a year to fix the personal bless deed situation.

I really wouldn't hold my breath on RoT being fixed anytime soon...la

im curious whats diff from rot now to rot years ago? except for the server line skill gain hop its the same as far as ive seen. And yes im still working skills and getting them from 70 to gm in about 8 days or so. I dont know the exact count. So could someone at least post what exactly is wrong with ROT?

Not to rain on the parade, but shouldn't it be a minumum of 13 days from 70 to GM even if you are able to grab every single gain every single day? That's just the math of the situation, correct? (36 .1 gains till 80 then 21 .1 gains till GM per day) This is without using an alacrity scroll. Plus, that is dedicating all of your skill gains to entirely one skill. So, even if we said on Day 1 you get to 70 and get all of your RoT gains as well for that first day, it will still take you 91 days to get 7 skills to GM level and we're not even talking about Legendary.

Is this too long? I dunno. Each person has their own opinion. For some it's too long, for others it's just enough time for a hard-knocks shard like Siege. *shrugs*

i mis-worded that i meant it was some number around 8 i dont really keep track of how many days cause done it on siege for so long im used to it. Theres other stuff to do then try to get your skills up fast. back in the days it was nothing to see journeyman pks running around killing everyone. It added to the fun of the shard. I remember one attacking me while i was mining back then and him not knowing that back then i had swords tactics for protection lol. I won and smelted his weapon muahhahaha

The actual number really doesn't matter. There are many less people than there used to be. In addition to this our lands are too vast and increase with each expansion. I'm doubtful though at this point if we only had fel that our population could be considered anywhere near healthy. Preferably we need to get more people and condense the lands. The latter probably isn't going to happen, so we need to get many, many more people than we have now. Only a few things have the potential to net the amount of people we need. Many changes we can make to increase our population will be at a sacrifice that will hurt Siege in some way. A MAJOR ROT change will not hurt Siege and will probably increase our population more than any other change. A small ROT change, as some here suggest, will not provide a big population boost and will force us to make other changes that will hurt Siege if we ever want to have the chance at a healthy population.

You can speed up gains by using an alac scroll in your house, use scroll, get gain, log out, wait rot timer, log in and get gain, rinse and repeat

besides that no way to speed up rot any

And I play siege mon-fri every day during day. Plenty of actives around on siege, but most stay hidden (or are running from aformentioned hidden tamers =p)

Rot need to change so you can gain much faster.

7,0 each day every 5 min. Now its intresting for folks to make a char and test out. My 3 best skills are up at 90 and i think i been here 3 months now.

You should be able to move a char to SP naked and empty bank. No move out from SP

I support a change to ROT (either raising daily cap or I really liked the idea of "banking" points when you can't log on for a day or two) but no xfers to siege, imo. naked or not, should raise your char here not bring one over.

theres really no reason to not allow transfers anymore. back in the day we didnt want them in order to protect our unique community with many roleplayers, player towns, codes of conducts ect....from the jackasses on prodo. but they came anyways...

now...roleplayers...they all either left and became jackasses...player towns...does the ****hole outside luna count? Conduct....lol....it used to be a very rare occasion to get **** talked to me after a fight, now? good lord.... So this whole idea of keeping rot and no transfers to filter out the people and let them get used to "our ways" is garbage now. siege will never be what it used to be, so might as well try and make it populated so we can do more then fight the same 4 people over and over. there are a lot of large active pvp guilds on other shards that would probably consider transfering here if they could without rebuilding a character

it did however protect us from the various dupes so the naked part is important....

That is such an illogical statement man. And not entirely? Define not entirely...you mean everyone isn't an immature baboon? Ok, sure. But the percentage of undesirables/unhonorable players has greatly increased. All one has to do is look around. ROT doesn't keep the trash away. That's one of the most often used excuses not to change ROT, and yet it is also one of the most ridiculous.

  37. Masumatek

Here's an excerpt from my post on ROT last year:

"2) They think ROT keeps away the “undesirable trouble makers,” the arses that we don’t want on our shard.

This is a very easy one to argue against. All you have to do is look around.

Does it look like our shard is filled with angels? No. Rezkilling/dry looting/crap talking/griefing is at an all time high. Honor is practically gone. Player justice is almost completely dead. Scammers/cheaters/exploiters are unchallenged and accepted into the community. And there is a far greater percentage of such people than there has been in the past. Undesirables roam freely throughout the land. The good people leave, and the few who do replace them, are often poor quality players.

But does it even make any sense for ROT in its current form to keep away the trouble makers (if you don’t want to take the time to open your eyes and see just how many we actually have)?
NO….it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.

Let’s think about it. The only way to arrive at the conclusion that ROT keeps away undesirables is by making a number of assumptions. People who argue this assume the following: Gamers who sit through ROT for 3-6+ months are the patient gamers. Older gamers are more patient than younger gamers. Older gamers are more mature than younger gamers. Their conclusion is that ROT “weeds out” the immature, younger games and only allows for mature, older gamers, or at least a majority of mature, older gamers.

Wooha…that’s a lot of assumptions right there. There are very many older gamers that are very immature and/or impatient just as there are a lot of younger gamers who are very mature and/or patient. Furthermore, the assumption that people who sit through 3-6+ months of training means they are the patient ones isn’t necessarily true. As an example, I myself am rather impatient in many ways and yet I sat through over six months of training. You have to consider all this. You can’t make the assumptions people opposing a major change to ROT do. But, so long as we’re on the topic of assumptions, you might find the following paragraph interesting.

Since we’re making assumptions, we can assume the following: Mature, older gamers have families. Mature, older gamers work more. Mature, older gamers have less time on their hands. Younger, immature gamers don’t have wives and children. Younger, immature gamers don’t work as much or don’t work at all. Younger, immature gamers have more time on their hands. So it can be concluded that ROT is not discouraging younger, immature players from playing on Siege, and in fact is discouraging older, mature gamers from playing on Siege since older, mature gamers have less time on their hands and skill training on Siege takes a long time to complete. How do you like that for assumptions? It goes both ways. And personally, I think the assumptions in this paragraph have more truth to them than the assumptions people who oppose a change to ROT make.

So…not only can you eliminate the “long training keeps away undesirables” argument simply by opening your eyes and looking at just how many undesirables we have, but thinking about it you can also conclude that we might have perhaps even the opposite of “long training keeping away undesirables” and long training is keeping away the quality people we want while leaving Siege open to the people we don’t."

I am here. I will be here until Siege dies, or I do, whichever comes first.
It has been suggested by my OH so supportive scribe that, given how accident-prone I seem to be of late, it may be worth starting a pool to bet on which happens first, but I think she's joking. I hope.

*checks under chair for rabid mongbat*

But, I believe that there are still many who play here. It would certainly help if the land-mass was reduced, or perhaps simply have some form of "Welcome to Siege. XXXXX players are currently online." message...
    Or something.

You are very close to being correct!
Everytime I do a character name count of Siege Perilous the first 100 fill in
very quickly, the second 100 takes about one week, and the next 100 if at
all takes about a month to tally.
I do not publish this information. It is for my own use. A who's who to keep
myself aware of activities. I am sure there are 1 to 2 hundred other people
I never meet! They never get tallyed.

A character name census is just not possible on Siege Perilous.
    No one should try!
