Should i gain both at the same time by taming or should i go lore first then taming. Or does it make a diff?

    Fastest method:
Train taming first, with magery being the only other skill on your template. Everything else besides taming and lore should be locked.

This gives you much more frequent guaranteed gains, and makes training faster.

Disadvantage: can't do anything else while training taming.

Then gain animal lore by pitting two pets against each other and healing them in turn. You can gain from not much to 100 in not a lot of time. About double that time will get you to 110, and about double the 0-110 time should get you to 120 (approximate values, your milage may vary.

Speed up the animal lore process by using the skill while you vet (macro is use bandage, target pet, use skill animal lore, target pet).

I like using Gaman for the previous process.

    The super-duper-controversial extra fast way:
Buy advance character token. Buy skill gain jewels for taming. Train up animal lore and vet using method above.

Then you can guaranteed gain your way to legendary tamer in about a year.

Lore will raise passively as you tame or vet pets so I wouldn't bother training it before taming. Just have it set to go up as you train the other skills. It's gains quickly as a passive skill.

I try to keep my total skill use as low as possible during training so I get the fastest GGS gains I can. But it's not essential that you do that. Generally I soulstone a skill off once it's trained, as long as I can get by without it. So I would work vet and lore at the same time as my taming, then soulstone them off. Then they're available to hunt with, but can be stoned off afterwards to get fast taming gains.

Another Take on how you should do lore and taming.

Train Taiming until you can't stand it anymore but you should get real Taming to at least 85, then get the Tamer Bird thing from the Museum and Jewelry to get your Taming to 105+.

Go play your Tamer until you can stand to train Taming up some more ... if that is what you want to do.

  7. It depends on how fast you want to become legendary, If you want you can follow the taming guide taming one of the creatures for a level, then ring up to tame at another level, you still get gains. I did polar bears until 70 then ring up and did Kirin's I got to 100 fairly fast without spending days at a time just taming. I took the time to go bond, train and hunt with the pets I could control for each level. Taming takes time and patience, if you are not into the power leveling concept just do some taming for gains each day and play the game and enjoy the pets and what you can do with them.

Aye, cu's tend to be what I tame with my girls once they pass 100, it's just a bit more interesting than bulls then ridgebacks :D

If I'm short of time I just grab a GGS, otherwise I work cu's.

Vet = More Stable slots and Rez.

If the Stable slots don't bother you then the new Vet NPC that can rez should take care of that.

So if you can maintain the heal and cure (I was failing a lot of cures in the Open Beta) through magic then .....

well how many stable slots for no vet and how many with gm or 120 vet. so my template would be eval, magery.spellweav, med, tam, lore all 120 if i ever see theday to make this char.

I don't run a tamer without vet but some do. The inconvenience is that if your pet dies during the middle of a battle, you'll have to go get it resurrected while a tamer with vet can res it during the fight and keep going. And you'd lose stable slots. While SW and magery can heal pets, I'd rather have both in addition to vetting than rely on them entirely. I wouldn't want to have to spend a bad night running back and forth to the vets, but that's just my preference having always had vet on my tamers :)

To the best of my knowledge as in I have never done it, you can cast the SW spell that will resurrect you and/or your BONDED pet. There is also the Gift of Renewal(?) the one that is like a HoT (Heal over Time) that stacks with Magery Greater Heal.

Honestly, if I were going to be worried I would be far more worried about the cure than the healing. I was just .... set back at how often I could NOT cure Trap Door Spider Bites, Wolf Spider Bites, The Poisons Slith etc.

    Rez Potion

A pet rez potion is coming up in UP SA. The potion will be very expensive, but it will then be viable to run a tamer with no vet and still stay in your peerless or champ battle.

Yes, gift of life for the res and renewal for the heals. They're the sole reason I have spellweaving on my necro tamer. If you're only going to use a greater dragon or cu, you have a pet that can take more punishment and is at much less risk of death. I'd say those are viable pets for that sort of template. I'm kinda assuming that you will use more than 2 types of pet, which is where deaths and inconvenience may creep in with 2 or more "weaker" pets out together. But the only times I try working a tamer without vet are when I use my last bandage mid-hunt so I'm not an expert in non-vet tamers :D

    I´m now at

    107 lore
    102 medi
    93 musi
    92 peace
    86 magery
    85 eval
    78 taming
    64 vet

I´ve to decide whether to kick eval or medi out of the template. The skill shoul go to a soulstone, so it will drop to 0 at once. At the moment i think dropping eval would be best. What do you think?

Eval is to low to be of any real relevance to a tamer.

Hum for the 17 addition reduction in total skills that dropping med would give you? I think I would just lock it so it doesn't gain and keep it ... you never know when your going to want to be able to gain manna quickly.

If your looking to liberate skill points then you should choose to drive meditation down to 100 or up to 110 as the 2 points above zero are not doing you any real good.

I need a lot of free points as vet/lore/taming should go to 120 once in a time.

So i´ve to decide to drop eval or medi to zero.

    Finaly all shoul be like

    120 taming
    120 lore
    120 vet
    120 musi
    120 peace
    100 magery

20 are left. Magery is to expansive for 120, and probably 100 in bard is enough an i can put 60 in medi in the end?

So i´ve to drop medi AND eval in the end. But wich one is less important?

That will work but if you are an Elf put the 20 into Focus as it will give you a +1 Manna Regen and a +2 Stamina Regen.

On the other hand the above skills all seem to be without any Jewelry Modifiers. If that is your plan then fine by me.

You can also find Jewelry / Items that can increase your apparent Skill Cap. One such item is the Britain Museum Bird Totem for Tamers with a +5 Taming and a +5 Lore.

There are Jewelry items that can raise your Magery, meditation, focus etc if you do NOT want to have mods to what your defining as base/needed skills.

Don't want to hijack the thread, but quick question--does the number of total skill points affect gains, other than for guaranteed gains? Will I gain faster overall at 200 total points, instead of 720?

The total skill points only has an effect on guaranteed gains.

At the risk of being perceived as attacking you, ending up on your ignore list or ... worse...

It has been explained, by others, certainly not me, that meditation is a liner scale with a full 1 manna regen for every 10.0 full skill points.

Far be it from me to contradict anyone here.

Thank you for the illumination and now I am unclear/unsure as to which of several sources has it right.

Again, no attack has been performed and certainly no contradiction, by me, has been asserted. I have simply reiterated what others have said that may not be consistent with what you said.

Be safe and have fun :)
