I need a trusted Atlantic Imbuer

Discussion in 'UHall' started by RavenWinterHawk, Oct 5, 2009.

  1. Rather then GM it or 120 it, Id rather form a relationship with a trusted imbuer.

Any takers? or suggestions. Please send me a message to private messages or leave me one here.

    Thanks

  2. I saw a want ad posted by someone on the East Coast servers who offered to imbue for 100K per item, you supply all the ingredients plus what is needed for failures.

What I wondered, is how do you either develop that relationship and trust, or provide collateral to ensure you get back what you handed over.

Hard to develop trust. But hey I can do it got a 120 imbuer there.

  5. At least the items don't break upon failure. I remember trying to repair a silver katana of vanquishing for a guildmate, back about 1999. It broke when I tried to repair it. He said, "no sweat I trust you, I waited too long to get it repaired." But I felt horrible.

    Good plan.

Too many people skill up only to complain about how tough or expensive it was, or about "having to" make a crafter to compete, etc etc, when they only use it for repairs or to make a few items. Too many "mules" diluting the market for the real crafters. Better to pay someone who's into all that than invest yourself in something that doesn't interest you as a playstyle.

I'd help out, but I'm on the wrong shard. Good luck.

Risk (slowly increasing amounts to learn about them)
Referrals (from other customers or your friends)
Reputation (Some people have earned the respect of the community)

Of course, even then you can get taken by an impostor or the Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde types so there is always some risk.

    Man that sucks :(

Those were Very Rare! I always hated trying to repair things for others, for just that reason. $250 back then was actually a good price.

With imbuing you hand over a basic item.

Just ask for the % that requires no extra ingredients to start with.

The item will be down to zero soon enough.

I handed my weapon to a smith the other day. It was down to zero. He repaired it and put POF on it. I had only seen him one other time. There are helpful people out there.

The trust issue is kind of a big one. It is hard in todays game to, to get to know a crafter. Gone are the days of taking your valued weapon to the Forge in Brit to the guy that is wearing gold chainmail with a red sash and crafting for folks.

What is needed is a repair / enhancement / imbue window. Something similiar to the trade window.

Where you could intiate a repair / enhance / imbue window similiar to a trade window.
    - You would put the item needing the crafters service into the window.
    - You would select what service you need from the crafter (based on his skills)
-- Once you selected the service the crafters skill would be shown to you and you could check the paperdoll for a talisman.
    - The item needing the crafters service would go into one window
    - The payment for service would go into a center window
    - You or the crafter would place the required resources into another window.
    - The repair / enhancement / imbuing would take place as both of you watch.
-- For repair - you both click OK buttons - You get the item back and he gets the check / gold
-- For enhancements - you would both have to check OK for it to begin. If the item was destroyed the crafter would still get paid, but you would know that he didn't steal it.
-- For imbueing - it would operate just like repairs.

Just an idea, and would need all the bugs worked out. EA is always trying to get us to interact within the game. Some type of system like this would hopefully bring back the old time smithy. Swinging his hammer by the forge and singing songs waiting for his customers to appear.

Restroom Cowboy and me have the 120 imbuers in at ATlantic so if you can't find anybody else close to you over there to do it I am sure you can trust us enough to know we aint gonna take your items and run with them. Especially how much we both post on stratics. Besides it's billion times better to have a good reputation for future services than tarnish one for idiotcy. No matter how much all of our opinions differ on stratics we all are still dedicated UO players part of the community.

  14. See, here is the problem. A true con-man builds the con. You don't steal the small stuff and learn to build confidence in the deal with the small items. Then BAM! take the big fish when it's hooked!

Umm.. at least that's what I've heard. :D

Maybe next time I will rez you in the cavern of the discarded...or...maybe I wont. :pint:

On a serious note though...I work for tips only if the customer provides all items needed to make the merchandise. If however the customers prefer red carpet service, a deposit must be made. (20% of the agreed price...held by *trusted third party until item is complete) Specialty red carpet items can be costly, all prices are negotiated before purchase, and all sales are final.

*the third party holder is to be decided by both parties during negotiation, and if for some reason agreement cannot be made...alternative arrangements will need to be made by the buyer in the best interest of both parties. If by some divine intervention an agreement is impossible, best of luck to ya.

Its funny that a game like UO with supposedly most adult players, still has all these trust issues...

I just came back from WoW and in the 3 years I played I havnt been scammed or cheated once when it came to crafters crafting/enchanting anything for me.... I have always handed over the required materials and gotten the item/enchant service back....

Just an oberservation.... maybe it is because it so easy to create chars with un unique names??

  17. Thanks all.
I dont have time this week to really get on but Ill look those up that offered.

    Trust... it easy.

    1. Its a game.
    2. Anything I lose isn't real life.
    3. I'd give you more then you could steal from me imbuing.
    4. You have to live with it... I don't.
    5. I don't use L33T stuff. No one wants my garbage (LOL)

    6. As was said... Do you really want to steal something when you have an established strong characture on the boards? I doubt it. But if you do, that takes you back to 1.

  18. Or how about this. Build a real relationship. Believe your more then a con man. And if you need something, here is 20 million. (game related only of course).

Or the good old reverse con... Not that I have done this when someone was trying to get me to hold a bag for them 1st and then put my hat of a magi in a trade window...

Sorry man I dont know... you.

Well I just wanted to see the hat. Could you take this bag and this tamer jewelry while I get a characture.

    Sure.

The jewelry was high end back then. The bag was set up to make me be overloaded or something so when I put the hat in a trade window and closed it - it would fall to the ground.

    GUY COMES BACK

Just let me see the hat. You have my jewelry.

Okay... I put a white hat in there... not the mage hat. Close the window. It falls - he grabs it.

I said what did you get... because I have some nice jewelry for a plan white hat.

  19. Now see, I don't even get why people would do this kind of stupid crap. I can make more in a single day than a person like that could make in a whole month of cons. I can do this because I've gone to great pains to build my reputation as a trustworthy and fair merchant/crafter. I have people come looking for me at my house or at the bank so I can repair their weps/armor for them (or enhance something), and they don't think twice about handing over that 50mil sword because they know they'll get it back. My success is based solely on the trust of my clientele. Oh well, the con mans loss is my gain.

  20. This is the part of the old UO that I miss and think we can never get back.

I remember working smith gains in the Skara Brae blacksmith shop, I think it was in 1999. I would be there for an hour every morning, and hour or so every night. People would drop in and ask me to repair their armor... one piece at a time. Next time it was their precious katana of power. Pretty soon I would get a bag with all of their armor and weapons, repair it and hand it back. I never asked for any gold, but they almost always dropped some in the trade or on the ground if I refused it. That was trust. When I achieved the honor of a GM blacksmith, I set up a vendor outside the Moonglow moongate selling armor, and people would buy it not because it was any better than any other GM armor, but because they knew me and had my name on it.

Now, everyone has a shop in their house. The days of this community are long gone.

I used to work Britain Fel Blacksmith shop near the graveyard with my first smith. There were usually 2-3 of us there. I never broke anything, and I never had one bad experience there. Back then, we were actually useful to each other. It was an entirely different world. In some ways less is more.

I've got 120 imbuing on Atlantic, and we actually get ALL of the resources ourselves.
